From YouTube: Council Minute September 22
Description
In this week’s Council Minute Mayor Tim Busse provides information on City elections, invites you to a community café on October 16 and reflects on the WE Mural Sunset Block Party.
A
Hello
bloomington,
I'm
mayor
tim
bussey,
and
this
is
the
council
minute
for
the
week
of
september
20th,
it's
hard
to
believe
it's
officially
fall
already
seems
like
we
were
just
celebrating
memorial
day.
It's
also
hard
to
believe
it's
already
election
season.
Early
voting
for
the
city,
council
and
school
board
races
began
on
friday
september.
17Th.
Voters
can
cast
their
ballots
monday
through
friday,
from
8
am
to
4
30
pm
at
bloomington.
Civic
plaza
absentee
voting
by
mail
is
also
available
by
requesting
a
ballot
from
hennepin
county
elections.
A
As
I'm
sure
you
know,
this
will
be
the
first
year
that
bloomington
voters
will
use
ranked
choice.
Voting
to
elect
city
council
members.
On
monday
night,
the
city
council
received
an
update
from
our
city
clerk
regarding
the
city's
voter
outreach
efforts,
which
have
been
great
so
far
and
will
continue
up
until
november,
and
we
also
received
information
on
the
plan
for
counting
ballots.
So
here
are
the
specifics
on
counting
ballots
on
election
night,
all
first
choice
votes
will
be
reported
on
the
minnesota
secretary
of
state's
website.
A
That's
at
mnvotes.org
in
any
race
where
a
candidate
receives
more
than
50
percent.
Of
the
first
choice
votes
that
candidate
is
elected
in
races,
where
no
candidate
receives
more
than
50
percent
of
the
first
choice
votes.
Those
races
will
require
additional
rounds
of
counting
and
they'll
be
listed
on
the
city's
website
on
election
night.
A
The
additional
counting
rounds,
if
needed,
will
begin
on
thursday
november
4th
at
civic,
plaza
community
members
are
welcome
to
watch
this
counting
process
in
person.
Results
will
be
posted
on
the
city's
website
and
will
become
official
after
being
certified
by
the
canvassing
board.
Ranked
choice.
Voting
is
new
this
year
in
bloomington,
and
I
encourage
everyone
to
visit
blm.mnslashvote
to
learn
more
about
rank
choice.
Voting
the
website
includes
more
information
on
ranked
choice,
voting
it
shows
sample
ballots,
and
it
also
gives
you
the
chance
to
register
to
vote
and
to
find
your
polling
place.
A
Remember
election
day
is
tuesday
november
2nd.
I
mentioned
recently
that
the
city
is
launching
a
strategic
planning
effort
that
will
involve
the
community
in
planning
bloomington's
future.
This
initiative
is
called
bloomington
tomorrow.
Together
we
want
the
community's
voice
reflected
in
the
strategic
plan,
so
in
the
first
phase
of
the
planning
process,
we're
inviting
community
members
to
provide
input
about
the
city,
we'll
be
gathering
feedback
through
a
series
of
community
cafes.
A
So
what
is
a
community
cafe?
Well,
they
are
small
group
conversations
about
bloomington
in
an
informal
setting
that
give
you
the
opportunity
to
share
what
you
value
about
your
community.
We
want
you
to
tell
us,
in
your
own
words
your
hopes
and
desires
for
the
future
of
bloomington.
We
also
want
to
know
what
your
top
priorities
are.
That
will
help
bloomington
continue
to
thrive.
A
So
please
join
us
for
our
first
community
cafe
on
saturday
october
16th
at
kennedy
high
school,
there
are
three
sessions
to
choose
from
9
a.m,
noon
and
3
p.m.
You
can
select
the
session,
that's
most
convenient
for
you.
We
will
be
hosting
additional
community
cafes
throughout
the
city.
In
the
latter
half
of
october
visit
blm.mn
forward,
slash
btt
for
registration
details
and
for
additional
information
on
dates
and
times.
A
A
We
had
wonderful,
late
summer
weather
and
a
great
turnout
for
the
wee
mural
sunset
block
party
on
saturday
september,
18th
attendees
enjoyed
trying
their
hand
at
spray
painting,
making
their
own
flower
crown
and
other
interactive
activities.
It
took
selfies
in
front
of
the
mural
and
danced
into
the
night.
The
performances
and
the
food
trucks
were
also
a
really
big
hit.
A
One
woman,
I
talked
to
said
she
moved
to
bloomington
a
couple
of
years
ago.
This
is
her
first
time
living
in
the
suburbs.
After
living,
her
entire
life
in
big
cities
like
chicago
and
new
york,
she
said
she
never
imagined
that
a
suburb
could
be
so
vibrant
and
animated
and
artistically
dynamic.
She
was
very
impressed.
A
Thank
you
to
all
who
were
involved
in
helping
to
make
this
mural
and
the
event
possible.
I
encourage
everyone.
Go
visit
the
mirror
to
see
it
now
that
it's
complete
it's
located
on
an
xl
energy
substation
facing
american
boulevard
and
30th
avenue
south
in
the
south
loop
and
as
impressive
as
the
mural
is
the
theme
for
the
mural
and
the
artists.
Statements
about
their
work
are
equally
as
impressive.
