From YouTube: Council Minute August 2
Description
In this week’s Council Minute Mayor Tim Busse discusses the second development phase at the SICK Sensors headquarters, thanks everyone who participated in National Night Out and previews future discussions about recreational marijuana and how changes to state law might impact Bloomington.
A
Hello
Bloomington
I'm
mayor
Tim
Bussey,
and
this
is
the
council
minute
for
the
week
of
July
31st
no
council
meeting
this
week,
but
we
did
have
a
concurrent
meeting
between
the
city
council
and
the
Bloomington
Port
Authority.
It's
always
a
worthwhile
time
when
these
two
groups
get
together
and
talk
about
economic
development
in
Bloomington.
So
on
Monday
night,
the
council
and
Port
Authority
discussed
the
phase
II
development
of
the
sick
company
headquarters.
Sick
is
a
German
manufacturing
company
and
is
one
of
the
world's
leading
providers
of
sensor-based
applications
in
the
industrial
sector.
A
A
Now
the
true
Genesis
goes
all
the
way
back
to
2010
and
2012
when
the
city
and
the
port
authority
purchase
the
land
where
sick
is
now
located
in
2019,
sick
and
the
city
began
talking
seriously
about
developing
the
site
and,
ultimately,
staff
worked
closely
with
sick
to
move
the
project
forward.
You
may
recall
we
cut
the
ribbon
on
phase
one
of
six
new
North
American
headquarters
back
in
November
of
2022.
phase.
One
of
the
development
includes
a
138
thousand
square
foot
production
facility
that,
by
all
accounts,
has
been
very
successful
so
successful.
A
In
fact,
that
sick
is
ready
to
start
phase
two
phase
two
will
include
a
new
office
building
that
will
serve
as
the
Hub
of
six
North
American
headquarters
and
will
bring
247
employees
together
in
a
144
000
square
foot
office
building
phase
two
also
includes
a
parking
ramp.
Construction
is
expected
to
start
next
spring,
in
addition
to
the
jobs,
and
these
are
high
paying
jobs
with
an
average
wage
of
105
000
a
year.
This
is
an
important
project
as
we
continue
to
work
on
our
goal
of
diversifying
bloomington's
tax
base.
A
The
public
dollars,
which
are
not
general
property
tax
dollars
will
go
toward
reducing
the
cost
of
the
land
and
helping
to
build
the
parking
ramp
that
I
mentioned,
and
by
the
way
this
parking
ramp
is
not
just
for
the
company
either
it's
parking
available
to
the
public,
something
that
will
be
important
as
the
self-loop
developments
expand
and
grow
folks.
This
is
a
great
project
completed
with
an
outstanding
multinational
corporation
as
a
partner
with
the
city
of
Bloomington.
A
I'm
looking
forward
to
the
groundbreaking
next
spring
and
the
eventual
ribbon
cutting
of
phase
two
of
six
North
American
headquarters,
Tuesday
night
was
National
Night
Out
and
events
celebrated
Nationwide
and
certainly
here
in
Bloomington.
The
final
count
for
neighborhood
parties
in
Bloomington
was
more
than
330
give
or
take
a
few
I'm,
always
so
impressed
that
our
Bloomington
Public
Safety
professionals
make
sure
that
each
and
every
one
of
those
registered
parties
gets
a
visit
from
a
police
officer,
a
fire
truck
or
a
Rescue
Unit.
A
That's
a
lot
of
parties
and
a
lot
of
ground
to
cover,
and
they
do
it
every
year.
Hats
off
to
them.
I
had
the
pleasure
again
this
year
of
traveling
around
with
police
chief
Booker
Hodges,
and
at
a
couple
of
stops,
we
had
the
honor
of
being
joined
by
senator
Amy
Klobuchar
I
am
so
appreciative
of
the
time
and
support
Senator
Klobuchar
gives
Bloomington.
A
She
was
a
huge
supporter
of
the
Expo
bid.
She
attended
the
diamond
service
awards
ceremony
and
has
always
championed
our
hospitality.
Industry
and
she's
always
been
a
strong
advocate
for
Bloomington
in
Washington
D.C.
It
was
a
pleasure
to
spend
time
with
her.
It
was
also
a
pleasure
to
get
out
Tuesday
night
on
a
beautiful
summer
evening
and
visit
neighborhoods
across
the
city.
National
Night
Out
is
always
a
fantastic
Community.
Builder
and
I
know
that,
for
the
vast
majority
of
you,
you
don't
need
a
special
night
to
do
that.
A
It
happens
all
the
time,
but
for
the
new
residents
in
a
neighborhood
or
the
neighbors
who
have
a
hard
time
getting
out
and
about
or
the
folks
who
have
a
hard
time
making
connections.
National
Night
Out
is
a
great
opportunity
to
cultivate
strong
relationships
in
neighborhoods,
which
leads
to
a
safer
Bloomington.
A
And
finally,
today
you
have
probably
heard
or
read
this
week
that
it's
now
legal
to
use,
possess
and
grow
recreational
marijuana
in
Minnesota
in
discussions
city
council
had
last
year
regarding
licensing
for
low-dose
THC
Edibles,
we
asked
staff
to
look
at
how
changes
to
state
law
might
impact
Bloomington
at
our
August
28th
meeting
staff
will
bring
us
feedback
about
the
new
legislation
and
its
effects
in
Bloomington
and
will
seek
direction
from
the
city
council
on
next
steps.
Now
Minnesota
is
not
the
first
state
to
make
changes
allowing
for
recreational
marijuana
use.
