From YouTube: Arts at the Plaza - Mapworks III
Description
Almost every community has a landmark or two. In the newest art exhibit coming to Civic Plaza, eight well-known Bloomington attractions are portrayed by six local artists.
A
Eric
sluttin
has
found
his
serenity
with
a
canvas
in
front
of
him
and
a
paintbrush
in
hand.
For
many
years,
slaton
describes
his
work
as
colorful
and
whimsical
breathing
new
life
into
everyday
objects.
His
passion
doesn't
end
with
the
completed
canvas.
However,
sluttin
wanted
to
connect
with
the
community
and
other
like-minded
artists,
and
that
is
how
the
traveling
exhibit
map-works
came
to
be
networks.
B
A
B
B
Uniquely,
what
I'm
trying
to
do
with
each
of
the
artists
is
to
find
artists
who
are
willing
to
take
on
the
challenge
of
maybe
bending
the
normal
scope
of
what
they
deal
with
at
to
fit
this
project
I
chose,
for
example,
DC
ice,
because
most
of
the
work
she
was
doing
was
a
very
illustrative
using
creatures
and
to
me,
I
thought
this
was
exciting.
I
thought
this
would
be
a
lot
of
fun
to
see
how
this
artist
DC
ice
would
be
able
to
represent,
say
buildings.
Some.
B
Scene
isn't
typical
choice:
I
like
to
depict
objects,
Craig
Bell
was
doing
a
lot
of
urban
city
scapes
and
I
I.
Think
that
doing
the
Minnesota
Valley
refuge
was
a
challenge
for
him
and
he
chose
to
actually
take
it
into
a
night
scene
which,
to
me
I,
believe
a
very
difficult
thing,
like
likewise
marjorie
moody.
She
just
took
a
little
moment
in
time.
Her
view
of
it
was
the
birds,
a
bird
feeder
and
to
me
I
thought
that
was
exquisite
and
in
nature.
Animals
are
more.
The
living
creatures
are
different
subject
matter
for
me.
A
Bloomington
landmark
portrayed
was
the
bush
lake
ski
jump,
seemingly
rising
from
nowhere
near
normandale
lake
and
I
494,
the
historic
family-owned
business,
David,
Fong's
restaurant
and
the
little-known
treasure
inside
the
walls
of
Normandale
Community
College,
a
two
acre
piece
of
land
and
water
that
has
been
transformed
into
the
school
and
Bloomington's
very
own
Japanese
garden.
But
it
wasn't
just
well
known
natural
sites
chosen
for
Bloomington
map-works.
Three,
the
nation's
largest
shopping
center
had
to
be
included.
I
really.
B
Got
excited
when
I
I
had
the
opportunity
to
use
the
mall
of
america
because
it
was
such
such
a
monstrous
shape,
such
a
usually
large
thing
to
do
so.
It
seemed
to
be
for
me
a
challenge
for
all
the
artists
to
go
after,
for
example,
I
thought
it
was
awesome.
The
way
Eric
Pearson
his
painting
portrayed
kind
of
like
a
little
nook
where
you
would
be
coming
through,
and
you
could
see
Nordstrom's
through
one
a
little
skywalks
and
I
and
I
identified
with
it
immediately.
B
Thinking
I've
been
there
I
like
that,
so
that
again
fulfilled
the
challenge
for
me
and
likewise
Holly's
stones
work.
What
was
really
fun
because
she
she
captured
the
the
different
levels
she
captured
the
hall,
the
shopping
experience
and
I
knew
everybody
was
going
to
automatically
have
their
own.
Take
on
such
a
varied
landmark.
B
Really
glad
to
be
doing
the
Civic
Plaza,
because
I
really
enjoy
the
length
and
the
different
facets
of
it
and
that
really
matches
itself
to
the
artwork.
I
do
so
we're
not
when
I
found
out
that
this
was
going
to
actually
be
one
of
the
landmarks
for
the
map
works
automatically
I
think
do
believe
it
was
the
first
painting,
I
did
and
I
do
a
fracturing
of
perspective
and
because
I
found
every
side
of
this
building
to
be
interesting
due
to
its
color.
