From YouTube: Bloomington LWV State 50B Representative Candidates
Description
Candidate Testimonials presented by the Bloomington League of Women Voters
A
Hi,
my
name
is
xavier
bickett
and
I
submitted
my
candidacy
for
state
legislature,
state
legislator
for
the
house,
50b
for
east
bloomington,
and
my
my
experience
recently
in
2013.
I
had
submitted
my
fantasy
for
the
bloomington
city
council
for
at
large,
which
is
all
of
bloomington.
I'm
really
excited
for
submitting
my
candidacy
for
state
house
for
50b.
A
I
will
continue
to
be
a
voice
and
a
champion
of
liberty
and
what
that
means
is
being
an
advocate
for
voluntary
solutions
to
state
governance.
So
today
the
league
of
women
voters
asked
us
to
cover
a
few
topics.
We
have
about
five
minutes
to
speak
the
first
minutes
in
our
intro,
so
my
education
background
is
a
bachelor's
degree
in
business
and
I
also
earned
an
associate's
degree
in
accounting
and
tax.
I
grew
up
here
in
bloomington.
Well,
I
moved
here
in
1998
from
arlington
virginia.
I
went
to
jefferson.
A
I
graduated
in
2002
went
to
normandale
and
then
transferred
to
minnesota
school
business
where
I
earned
my
bachelor's
in
business
and
associates
in
accounting
and
tax.
The
first
topic
that
the
bloomington
league
of
women
voters
asked
us
to
talk
about
was
on
immigration
and
talk
a
little
bit
about
education,
and
I
really
wish
for
all
these
topics.
A
We
had
more
than
just
one
minute
to
talk
about
them,
but
for
immigration
for
the
state
level,
there
isn't
a
whole
bunch
of
legislation
on
immigration
that
can
be
done
at
the
state
level,
but
I
do
support
legal
immigration
and
immigration
for
the
country
is
a
great
great
because
it
brings
in
more
cultural,
more
diversity
and
more
workers,
which
is
something
we
desperately
need
for
our
state.
But
the
education
piece
is
something
really
important
that
we
want
to
talk
about.
A
As
a
legislator,
I
would
definitely
be
an
advocate
for
giving
more
power
for
school
decision
making
back
to
the
local
communities
back
to
the
school
boards,
not
with
me
being
in
the
state
at
the
state
legislature
in
saint
paul.
I
would
be
an
advocate
for
giving
more
of
that
decision-making
and
more
of
that
tax
tax
authority
back
to
local
school
boards,
where
they're
more
closely
in
tune
with
the
community,
and
why
is
that?
A
It's
because
the
legislators,
and
in
saint
paul
I
believe
that
if
you
are
a
school
board
member,
what
you
know
what's
best
for
your
city
may
not
be
the
same:
that's
best
for
minneapolis,
which
may
not
be
the
best
that
same
for
eden,
prairie
and
those
school
board.
Members
can
represent
you
the
best.
The
second
topic
they
asked
us
to
talk
about
was
health
care
again
only
a
minute,
which
I
wish
we
had
way
more
than
a
minute,
but
talking
about
health
care
and
medicaid,
you
know
with
health
care.
A
It's
definitely
a
major
issue
not
only
just
in
the
country,
but
in
the
states.
After
the
affordable
health
care
act
was
passed.
You
know,
I'm
not
a
a
supporter
of
mandating
anyone
to
buy
anything,
whether
it's
a
product
or
service.
So
I
don't
agree
on
all
those
aspects,
but
I
do
believe
that
people
need
better
access
to
health
care.
A
A
I
went
to.
I
went
to
wendy's
the
other
day.
I
was
looking
for
the
dollar
menu
and
it
was
gone,
and
I
was
wondering
kind
of
what
the
thoughts
were,
and
the
first
thing
that
came
to
my
mind
is
probably
the
cost
of
doing
business
from
minimum
wage
increases.
I
think
the
best
way
to
to
solve
those
problems
with
wages
is
as
consumers.
We
need
to
do
a
better
job
of
shopping
and
buying
products
of
companies
that
treat
their
employees
the
best,
and
I
think
that's
really
what
what's
the
best
way
to
solve.
A
It
is
through
voluntary
community
solutions
where
we're
being
smarter
consumers
and
choosing
where
we
should
should
shop
and
what
products
to
buy.
In
closing
again,
I
wish
I
had
more
time
to
talk
about
all
these
topics.
I
want
to
be
a
voice
for
liberty
and
be
an
advocate
for
voluntary
solutions
to
all
of
these
issues.
A
In
closing
what
you're
not
going
to
see
much
difference
for
me
than
when
I
was
running
for
city
council,
I'm
going
to
be
outdoor,
knocking,
as
I
promised
at
the
end
of
my
city
council
campaign,
I'm
not
going
anywhere
here
in
bloomington,
I'm
going
to
stay
here,
door,
knock
talk
to
voters,
make
phone
calls
and
listen
to
you
on
how
to
solve
these
problems
on
a
community
level
through
voluntary
solutions,
and
I
look
forward
to
meeting
you
meeting
you
out.
You
can
call
my
cell
phone.
B
Hi,
my
name
is
annelin
chesky,
and
I
want
to
thank
the
league
of
women
voters
for
offering
us
this
video
forum.
I'm
a
state
representative
here
in
bloomington,
and
I
grew
up
here
in
bloomington,
attended
the
bloomington
schools
and
I,
along
with
my
husband,
have
four
children.
They've
all
attended
the
bloomington
schools
and
bloomington
is
very
important
to
us.
I've
been
fortunate
in
bloomington
to
volunteer
and
work
with
a
lot
of
great
people.
I've
served
in
a
lot
of
capacities
in
our
community.
I've
been
a
planning
commissioner
parks.
B
Commissioner,
I've
served
on
the
bloomington
chamber
of
commerce
board.
Before
I
was
in
the
state
legislature,
I
was
served
on
the
bloomington
city
council.
I
now
serve
as
the
tax
chair
in
the
minnesota
house
of
representatives.
I've
been
asked
by
the
legal
woman
voters
to
address
four
items
and
I'll
try
to
do
that.
Briefly:
immigration,
health
care,
employment
and
minimum
wage.
B
As
far
as
immigration
goes,
that's
really
a
national
issue.
The
minnesota
legislature
and
state
legislatures
don't
really
deal
with
immigration
too
much.
However,
having
said
that,
I
will
tell
you
that
I
work
with
a
lot
of
business
leaders
and
a
lot
of
ceos
and
immigration
is
a
big
concern
for
them.
They
need
more
immigrants
in
highly
skilled
fields.
We
need
more
scientists
and
physicians
and
engineers
and
people
in
I.t,
so
they're
concerned
about
our
immigration
policies.
B
B
We
had
eight
percent
of
minnesotans
unemployed
and
we're
now
down
to
are
not
unemployed,
uninsured
and
we
are
now
down
to
four
percent
since
we
opened
venture.
Additionally,
we
have
the
lowest
insurance
premiums
in
the
country
and,
while
I
know
citizens
don't
like
paying
their
insurance
premiums,
I'm
happy
to
tell
you
that
the
data
is
in
and
minnesota's
insurance
premiums
are
the
lowest
in
the
nation.
B
Regarding
employment,
I'm
happy
to
say
that
I've
been
the
the
bipartisan
author
of
a
lot
of
legislation
to
help
with
job
creation
and
economic
development.
We've
solved
a
lot
of
problems
in
cities
across
the
state
to
encourage
more
businesses
to
move
to
senate
to
minnesota,
and
I
think
people
are
aware
that
minnesota
has
one
of
the
strongest
job
markets
in
the
country
and
are
leading
the
nation
coming
as
we've
come
out
of
the
the
recession.
B
B
In
closing,
I
I
would
like
to
say
that
I'm
most
proud
of
the
fact
that
I
put
bloomington
first
as
a
state
representative
in
bloomington,
I've
worked
very
hard
to
work
with
democrats,
republicans,
people
of
all
affiliations
and
stripes
to
come
up
with
the
best
solutions
for
citizens.
I'm
proud
of
my
efforts
to
find
common
ground,
I'm
able
to
compromise,
and
I
can
I
am
reliable
when
it
comes
to
pushing
for
bloomington
needs
ahead
of
all
else,
and
I
have
been
very
honored
to
serve
as
state
representative
for
bloomington.
