A
B
Welcome
to
Bloomington
today
I'm
Laurie
Schulte
thanks
for
joining
us.
First,
we
bring
you
the
buzz
for
the
week
of
March
25th
through
the
31st.
Hundreds
of
people
were
at
the
radisson
blu
earlier
this
month
for
the
state
of
the
city
address
mayor
jean
winstead
and
city
manager,
Jamie
verbrugge
ease
spoke
to
the
crowd
of
about
260
people,
we're.
C
Explaining
all
that's
happening
in
the
city
of
Bloomington,
what
kind
of
happened
over
the
past
year
and
what
we
anticipate
this
next
year
will
bring
for
the
city
in
a
lot
of
its
development,
both
residential
commercial
and
you
know
just
business
enhancement
and
development
within
the
city.
So
it's
we're
getting
that
word
out.
The.
B
C
About
the
development
of
more
than
a
thousand
housing
units
in
the
city
of
Bloomington
are
coming
online.
We
talked
about
maybe
more
than
a
million
square
feet
of
commercial
and
office
development.
That's
coming
online
in
the
city
of
Bloomington,
then
we
talked
about
the
building
of
hotels,
probably
another
thousand
hotel
rooms
coming
online
in
the
city
of
Bloomington
over
the
next
year,
or
so
during.
B
The
address
Winstead
also
highlighted
Bloomington's
unemployment
rate,
which
is
lower
than
the
nation
state
and
metro
area
at
two-point-eight
percent.
The
mayor
said
the
city's
total
assessed
value
for
2015
is
estimated
to
be
eleven
point
three
billion
dollars.
He
said,
that's
a
sign.
The
city
is
bouncing
back
after
the
recession.
It
was
also
a
record
year
for
building
permits,
proving
companies
have
confidence
in
the
city's
future.
After
winsteads
presentation,
the
crowd
also
got
a
chance
to
hear
from
the
new
city
manager,
Jamie
verbrugge.
He
wrapped
up
the
address
by
recognizing
some
of
bloomington's
local
heroes.
B
The
state
of
the
city
address
is
held
during
the
Bloomington
Chamber
of
Commerce
luncheon.
The
event
grows
in
size
each
year,
while
many
people
prepare
for
spring
Bloomington,
Public
Works
was
reminded
of
winter,
but
for
good
reason
they
were
recognized
for
safe
and
sustainable
snow
fighting
by
the
salt
Institute.
It
was
based
on
information
about
the
city's
salt
storage
facility
and
equipment
used
for
salt
removal.
The
the
first
time
Bloomington
has
received
the
award.
The
city
is
one
of
64
agencies
in
the
United
States
and
Canada,
who
got
it.
B
A
Want
to
use
the
least
amount
of
salt,
because
again
what
the
salt
will
work
its
way
into
the
waterways.
A
handful
of
salt
will
ruin
the
water
quality
of
a
five-gallon
bucket.
So
we
really
have
to
watch
how
much
we
use
you'll
see
improvement
in
the
next
few
years
as
more
people
get
into
using
less
salt,
because
it's
just
not
the
city
of
Bloomington,
that's
connected
to
nine
mile
creek,
there's
other
cities,
there's
MnDOT,
there's
Hennepin
County
and
all
the
businesses
local
businesses
at
salt.
There
parking
lots
an
injured.
B
Red
tail
hawk
was
found
in
Bloomington,
and
it's
now
recovering
at
the
Raptor
Center
at
the
University
of
Minnesota.
The
Raptor
was
found
near
86th
and
park
earlier
this
month,
a
resident
reported
it
an
animal
control
officer,
John
Carlson
picked
it
up.
He
took
it
to
the
U
of
M
for
treatment
and
we're
hoping
for
a
speedy
recovery.
Bloomington
is
known
for
its
a
large
amount
of
green
space,
but
for
the
next
couple
months,
nature
is
indoors
at
Civic
Plaza.
The
atrium
gallery
has
an
exhibit
that
will
make
you
think
spring.
B
It's
called
birds
and
landscapes
by
artist,
Eric
corneille,
it
showcases
oil-on-canvas
paintings,
inspired
by
natural
scenery.
Courtney
says
he's
drawn
to
the
vast
color
during
times
of
change
like
the
spring
and
fall
or
morning
and
night,
the
paintings
almost
look
like
a
photograph,
but
there's
a
touch
of
Impressionism
cornea
has
been
a
professional
painter
since
1993
and
owns
his
own
painting
business.
This
exhibit
will
be
up
through
April
26th.
You
can
visit
monday
through
friday
from
eight
to
ten
saturday,
from
nine
to
five
and
sunday
from
one
to
ten.
B
That
is
the
buzz
on
Bloomington
today.
For
the
week
of
March
25th
through
the
31st,
if
you
would
like
to
watch
other
stories
from
the
show
go
to
this
week's
playlist,
there
you'll
find
several
videos
from
the
state
of
the
city
address
earlier
this
month,
including
a
piece
introducing
people
to
the
new
city
manager.
There's
also
a
story
on
the
early
opening
of
Bloomington
City
golf
courses
thanks
so
much
for
watching.
