A
Welcome
to
bloomington
today
I'm
emily
taplin
thanks
for
joining
us.
First,
we
bring
you
the
buzz
for
the
weeks
of
june
8th
through
the
21st.
The
primary
election
is
coming
up
and
early
voting
starts
in
june.
The
first
day
to
start
absentee
and
early
voting
is
friday
june
24th
bloomington
residents
can
go
to
civic
plaza
to
cast
their
ballots
from
8
a.m,
to
4
30
p.m,
monday,
through
friday
june
24th
through
august
5th,
from
10
a.m
to
3
p.m.
A
B
If
a
voter
doesn't
receive
the
postcard
or
wants
to
know
ahead
of
time,
we
encourage
everyone
to
visit
mnvotes.org
to
check
their
polling
location.
We
are
excited
to
say
we
are
still
recruiting
election
judges
for
the
august
primary
and
the
november
general
election.
There's
an
online
application
for
folks
who
are
interested
to
complete,
and
then
we
provide
the
training
and
all
the
information
they
need
to
show
up
to
their
polls
and
assist
in
the
voting
process.
A
C
Well,
it's
terribly
important
to
me
it's
personal
because
I
lost
my
father
in
vietnam.
I'm
a
gold
star
son
and
I've
spoken
with
so
many
vietnam
veterans
over
the
years
who
came
home
to
a
country
that
was
not
grateful
to
a
system
that
didn't
take
care
of
them
and
it's
time
that
we
make
good.
I
can't
correct
all
the
errors
of
the
past,
but
at
least
a
celebration
of
their
service
today
is
going
to
be
meaningful
and
show
them
how
much
they
mean
to
all
of
us.
C
There's
never
been
a
more
important
time
in
our
history
for
us
to
reflect
on
the
sacrifices
that
people
made
so
that
we
can
be
free
and
have
our
liberties
and
in
a
time
of
great
division
in
our
country.
I
think
it's
terribly
important
that
we
reflect
backwards
and
recognize
what
people
have
given
so
that
we
can
be
here
today,
and
this
is
going
to
be
an
extraordinary
project.
I
got
to
raise
some
money
for
it.
I'm
going
to
try
to
help.
A
To
learn
more
visit
bloomingtonveteransmemorial.org
later
that
day,
representative
phillips
also
unveiled
the
pathways
to
policing
act
in
the
council
chambers.
It's
a
new
bipartisan
bill
to
help
state
and
local
law
enforcement
agencies
struggling
to
maintain
staffing
levels
recruit
a
new
generation
of
public
servants.
D
As
an
elected
official
and
a
policy
maker,
I
want
to
voice
my
absolute
full
support
for
the
pathways
to
policing
act
and
I
want
to
commend
congressman
phillips
for
bringing
the
proposal
forward.
It's
a
creative
and
a
meaningful
idea
to
address
a
problem
that
is
acute
not
only
in
cities
and
counties
in
minnesota,
but
across
the
country,
and
I'm
proud
of
the
fact
that
this
idea
had
its
origins
at
the
municipal
level.
It
was
test
driven
and
refined
and
proven
locally
minnesota.
E
Unfortunately,
we've
had
some
of
the
most
notorious
instances
in
law
enforcement
are
reflective
out
of
this
state,
and
hopefully
this
will
be
one
of
the
best
instances
that
come
out
of
minnesota
for
a
program
that
people
see.
That
is
actually
reflective
of
the
law
enforcement
quality
that
we
have
here
minnesota,
as
opposed
to
some
of
the
national
attention
that
we've
gotten
here.
This
program
has
the
potential
to
be
a
game
changer
in
terms
of
how
we
recruit
and
retain
law
enforcement.
Workforces.
C
I've
spent
a
lot
of
time
in
squad
cars
here
in
bloomington,
and
I
hear
the
same
thing
time
and
time
again,
no
matter
where
I'm
riding,
and
that
is
it's
getting
awfully
difficult
to
recruit
the
very
best
and
brightest
and
retain
them
and
no
matter
what
one's
political
perspective
might
be.
Public
safety
is
an
imperative
and
the
way
we
achieve
that
is
to
ensure
that
we
better
reflect
the
communities
that
are
being
served,
and
that
means
recruiting
young
people
who
may
not
even
have
thought
about
careers
in
policing.
A
The
city
wants
to
