Description
One of my childhood dreams comes true in this week’s Verbrugge View. I got to drive a fire truck!
Before I take the tiller for a spin, there’s an update about changes to liquor/food ratio requirements at local establishments. Also, a big thanks to everyone who participated in the World Café!
A
Morning
we
are
here
with
our
assistant,
fire
chief
Laura
McCarthy,
and
up
on
the
front
of
the
truck
will
be
assistant,
fire
chief
Jay
Forrester
they're,
going
to
give
me
the
lessons
today
how
I'm
going
to
drive
what
we
call
our
killer
truck.
A
lot
of
people
would
refer
to
this
as
a
ladder
ever
since
I
was
a
kid.
I
know
that
this
is
the
one
thing
that
I
really
like
to
do
and
I.
Imagine
you
probably
thought
that
way
as
a
kid
to
ditch
allure,
not.
B
A
B
B
A
A
couple
of
things
that
I've
learned
about
with
this
truck.
First
of
all,
we
have
three
right.
We
have
two
that
are
newer
and
one
that's
quite
a
bit
older,
but
that's
because
Bloomington
has
a
number
of
large
building.
The
ladder
can
go,
100
feet
up
in
the
air
and
we
have
a
number
of
buildings
that
go
even
higher
than
that.
So
it's
important
to
have
this
kind
of
apparatus.
A
The
other
thing
that's
interesting
is
that
this
truck
can
actually
drive
into
the
ball
of
America
and
into
the
area
of
nickelodeon
universe,
so
that
it
can
get
up
to
the
very
top
of
some
of
the
ride
there
to
provide
aerial
rescue
of
that's
necessary.
So
it's
an
interesting
design
feature
inside
the
mall
of
america.
You
tell
me
what
I
need
to
learn
before
I
climb
up
into
the
be
simple
the.
B
B
B
You'll
see
there
if
you
push
the
horn,
which
is
right
in
this
manner,
just
like
a
car
horn
once
the
truck
is
on
and
will
activate
you
can
tell
the
driver
is
when
the
goal,
so
you
acknowledge
this
am
ready
to
go.
He
hit
the
motor
twice.
Okay,
the
driver
will
go
on
reciprocate
and
say:
okay,
I
understand
we're
ready
to
go.
We
do
have
the
heater
running.
That's
one
thing:
that
is
an
improvement.
C
B
C
A
I
take
a
spin
around
the
western
maintenance
facility
on
the
back
end
of
the
Bloomington
Fire
Department
tiller
truck.
We
have
a
couple
of
updates.
We
want
to
bring
you
on
the
verb
Raviv
you
first
an
update
on
some
action
by
the
City
Council.
Recently,
one
of
the
items
that
they
discussed
a
couple
meetings
in
a
row
was
having
to
do
with
our
liquor
food
ratio.
Currently,
a
licensed
liquor
on
sale
provider
has
to
provide
forty
percent
of
the
sale
from
food.
A
After
first
rejecting
the
idea
on
a
tie
vote,
they
came
back
at
the
next
meeting
reconsidered
and
ultimately
did
pass
it.
So
if
there
are
businesses
that
want
to
provide
craft
brews,
they
have
an
opportunity
to
come
in
at
a
lower
requirement
for
the
liquor
food
ratio
and
the
concern
for
us,
as
always,
good
management,
and
so
in
the
process
of
looking
at
this
issue.
Our
Police
Department's
work
closely
with
our
licensing
staff
and
our
senior
management
team,
as
we
walk
through
whether
this
was
a
good
recommendation.
A
Good
policy
and
as
long
as
our
Police
Department,
is
comfortable
that
the
operators
are
responsible,
we're
confident
that
we
can
make
this
work
for
community.
So
that
was
action
by
the
council
around
the
organization.
I
want
to
thank
everybody
who
participated
in
the
world
cafe
to
talk
about
the
organizational
values
supporting
our
leadership
philosophy.
Again,
we
had
operating
systems
values
and
we
had
independent,
individual
behavior
values
and
we
asked
to
have
to
come
together
and
talk
about
what
those
values
mean
in
practice
and
how
we
show
those
in
evidence
in
the
work
that
we
do.
A
A
Our
staff
is
working
closely
with
mayor
would
instead
to
make
sure
that
once
again
we're
providing
not
only
really
good
information
for
the
members
of
our
chamber
and
the
rotary
who
co-sponsored
the
state
of
the
city
event,
but
all
of
the
members
of
our
community,
the
good
things
that
we're
doing
in
Bloomington
and
to
do
it
in
an
entertaining
way
and
I'm,
confident
that
this
year,
we're
going
to
once
again
meet
that
expectation.
The
March
22nd
of
the
state
of
the
city
and
we'll
share
more
with
you
after
that
event
has
happened
as
well.
A
C
B
A
Yeah
this
is
counter-intuitive,
so
the
real
challenge
is
to
think
I.
I
need
to
go
away
from
the
obstacles
in
front
of
me.
All
right,
I've
got
a
mailbox
I'm
trying
to
avoid
this.
Darn
mailbox
is
trying
to
get
me
when
I
was
out
here
in
the
snow
flow
too.
So
I
got
it.
Try
not
to
hit
that
again
all
right.
We're
going
right
now
around
the
corner,
so
I'm
going
to
start
to
turn
left
excellent.
A
B
B
A
This
has
been
an
experience
that
I
was
anticipating
would
be
challenging
and
I
was
right
in
part
because
it
it
takes
a
little
bit
of
work
to
figure
out
the
turning
away
from
the
cab
direction
and
also
because
assistant
chief
Forester
was
also
challenging,
is
a
little
bit
by
increasing
the
speed
and
narrowing
up
some
of
the
turning
radius,
though
it
was
a
good
challenging
experience,
and
it's
one
that
I'm
going
to
remember
for
a
long
time.
So
any
kids
out
there
that
are
aspiring
to
be
firefighter.
A
This
is
one
of
the
things
that
you
might
get
to
do.
If
you
decide
to
join
the
Bloomington
fire
department,
they're
always
take
an
application
and
you
can
serve
your
community
at
the
unique
way
to
do
it
so
from
our
Western
maintenance
facility
and
on
behalf
of
the
Bloomington
fire
department,
with
assistant
chief
McCarthy
and
Forester,
thanks
to
them
for
giving
me
this
opportunity.
We'll
see
you
next
time
on
the
river
deviation.
