From YouTube: Verbrugge View - Tri City Lab
Description
In this week’s Verbrugge View, I see how much chemistry I can remember and put to use at the Tri City Lab.
But first, there’s an update on why I was in Paris and a message from I.S. about Everbridge. Plus, a big thank you to our diversity and inclusion group and Asst. City Manager Elizabeth Tolzmann.
A
A
It
was
a
very
successful
effort
we
had
to
meet
with
representatives
from
over
a
hundred
different
countries
that
participate
in
the
Bureau
of
international
expositions,
and
the
final
vote
will
be
in
November.
So
why
is
Bloomington
interested
in
this?
First
of
all,
we
think
it's
good
for
Minnesota.
If
the
world
fair
comes
here,
no
matter
where
it
is
in
the
metro
area,
it's
going
to
be
good
for
Bloomington,
because
our
hospitality
industry
is
so
important
to
our
community.
A
We
have
over
9,000
hotel
rooms
and
on
any
big
event
that
happens
here
in
the
Twin
Cities
Bloomington
is
a
key
part
of
it,
but
it's
also
a
possibility
that
we
could
have
the
world
fair
in
Bloomington
and
so
we're
working
with
partners
at
Mall
of
America
to
look
at
South
Loop
options
where
we
may
locate
the
fair
and
hopefully
host
a
world
exhibition.
Here
we
have
a
lot
of
work
to
do
in
the
next
couple
of
months
to
figure
out.
A
If
that
really
is
a
possibility
before
we
get
to
November
and
the
BIE,
the
Bureau
of
international
exhibitions
decides
if
Minnesota
will
indeed
be
the
host
in
2023.
So
there's
much
more
to
follow
on
this
issue.
We
have
a
lot
of
work
to
do
like
I
said,
but
hopefully,
in
the
end
will
say
that
Minnesota
in
the
United
States
is
hosting
a
World
Fair
in
the
future.
It
would
be
the
time
in
nearly
40
years
of
the
World
Fair
has
been
in
the
United
States.
A
A
Inclusion
in
government
group
that
has
been
coordinating
a
number
of
luncheon
learns
and
informational
sets
of
sessions
in
partnership
with
our
Human
Rights
Commission,
two
of
the
more
recent
ones,
the
panel
of
our
employees,
talking
about
LGBTQ
issues,
and
you
know
personal
experiences
of
our
employees
and
then
the
other
was
having
Ellie
Krug.
Who
is
a
transgender
advocate
and
educator
talking
about
that
issue
and
raising
awareness
of
trans
people
and
the
issues
that
they
face
in
how
other
people
can
understand
that
issue?
A
Moving
forward,
I
also
want
to
take
a
moment
to
thank
publicly
our
assistant
city
manager,
Elizabeth
tolls
Minh
for
the
leadership
that
she
has
provided
in
the
equity
and
inclusion
efforts
in
our
organizational
development
and
training
efforts
and
her
work
to
improve
employee
engagement
and
also
the
work
that
she
has
done
to
advance
relationships
in
our
community
in
our
community
engagement
efforts,
especially
with
minority
populations
and
immigrant
communities
Elizabeth.
As
you
know,
by
now
is
leaving
our
organization
on
Friday
July
7th.
A
She
has
taken
an
excellent
opportunity
with
Ramsey
County
to
be
a
director
of
policy
and
planning.
We
wish
her
nothing
but
the
best,
and
thank
you
for
the
work
that
she
has
done
on
behalf
of
the
city
of
Bloomington.
One
other
thing
I
want
to
share
with
employees,
comes
from
our
if'
folks
and
so
you'll
polish.
All
apologize
for
reading
some
of
this
I
don't
have
a
committed
memory,
but
last
fall.
A
You'll,
remember
is
updated,
employee
contact
information
into
ever
bridge
the
city's
math
notification
system,
so
the
system
can
be
used
to
provide
an
additional
method
to
alert
employees
of
emergency
or
disruptive
events
and
departments
and
divisions.
May
be
using
it
for
non-emergency
communications
so
to
ensure
you're
receiving
any
potential
communication
through
ever
bridge.
It's
important
to
have
correct
contact
information
saved
in
it.
A
So
in
the
coming
days
you
can
expect
to
receive
an
email
from
information
systems
with
a
link
to
create
an
account
in
the
ever
bridge,
employee
portal
and
from
there
you
can
view
and
modify
your
contact
information
and
after
your
account
is
set
up,
you
can
access
the
login
screen
from
the
tool
drop-down
on
the
city,
biz
homepage
and
select
ever
bridge
employee
portal.
If
you
have
any
questions
about
that,
you
can
contact
information
systems
at
four
eight,
eight
five
at
extension,
4885.
A
So
we
know
that
the
water
comes
out
of
the
lake
comes
through
here
for
some
testing,
but
there's
a
lot
more.
That
happens
here
at
the
tri-city
left,
so
Whitney
is
dead,
Wilson
and
she's
going
to
tell
us
a
little
bit
about
what
happens
inside
the
lab
here.
Let
me
first
start
with
the
name:
tri-city
lab
talk
about
the.
B
B
We
do
we
just
do
word-of-mouth
and
coming
out
it's
gotten
out
that
we
do
this
testing.
We
can
get
a
fast
turnaround
time
for
people
and
we're
state
certified,
which
makes
it
even
better
for
everyone
else.
So
we
do
lots
of
different
things
in
the
metro
area.
Instance
we're
so
centralized.
It's
really
easy
to
get
here.
So.
B
During
and
after
to
keep
everything
safe
and
make
sure
all
the
water
quality
parameters
are
what
they
should
be.
We
test
for
a
lot
of
chemistry
and
biology,
so
there's
things
that
were
mandated
to
test
for
which
is
really
just
bacteria.
Okay,
and
then
we
take
it
a
little
further
and
we
test
for
a
lot
of
chemistry.
So
we're
always
testing
for
pH
L
salinity.
We
can
test
for
metals
the
hardness
level
since
we're
a
water
softening
plant.
We
want
to
make
sure
a
hardness
level
is
where
it
should
be,
and
that's
important.
A
A
B
A
B
Them
in
the
city
river
and
it's
low
in
magnesium,
it's
low
on
calcium,
and
so
they
actually
do
lime
softening
as
well
and
they
have
to
add
things
to
their
water.
So
what
we're
trying
to
do
we're
getting
water
from
them
and
we're
making
water?
We
try
to
make
the
water
quality
similar.
So
there's
no
reactions
on
the
system.
If
the
water
was
unsimilar,
it
can
all
the
molecules
are
self
connect
create
problems,
so
we
are
actually
creating
our
water
to
be
more
like
their
water.
So.
B
B
Video
we're
going
to
do
a
hardness
test,
so
these
are
the
samples
we
collected
in
the
distribution
system.
This
particular
sample
is
actually
our
finished
water
that
we've
collected
after
it's
gone
through
the
water
treatment
process.
This
temple
here
you're,
going
to
pour
off
into
this
graduated
cylinder
at
50,
mil
mark.
A
B
A
A
B
B
B
A
Learned
an
entire
semester
of
chemistry
overnight
when
I
was
in
college,
so
hopefully
my
ability
to
learn
very
quickly
is
still
the
same
as
it
used
to
be.
I
know:
I
learned
a
lot
today.
Jeff.
Thank
you
for
taking
the
time
to
share
this
with
us,
and
hopefully,
you've
learned
a
lot
too.
So
not
only
are
the
folks
here
at
our
strive
to
be
lab,
making
sure
that
our
water
is
the
best
tasting
water
anywhere,
we're
also
making
sure
that
it
is
safe
every
day
and
we're
meeting
that
test
every
day.
