From YouTube: Verbrugge View - Archery Range
Description
In this week’s Verbrugge View, I head out to the Marsh Lake Archery Range at 94th and France to take a look at some new improvements and try my hand at shooting a bow and arrow.
I also talk about Human Rights Commission Omar Bonderud Award nominations, storm sewer improvements in the Penn American District and the City services assessment.
A
Nestled
in
a
little
Park
along
Marsh
Lake
at
94th
in
France
Avenue,
is
a
little-known
amenity
here.
It's
the
Bloomington
archery
range
and
its
newly
improved
this
week
on
Verbruggen
view
we're
going
to
talk
about
the
improvements
here
at
the
Bloomington
archery
range
and
I'm,
going
to
take
my
hand
at
firing
a
few
arrows.
Why
don't
you
come
along
for
this
week
for
birdie
view
I'm
here
with
Jeremy
Klotz
the
park
supervisor
in
our
Public
Works
Department
Jeremy?
A
B
Two
biggest
concerns
were
488
compliancy
and
also
for
safety,
all
the
iron
user
groups.
With
this
dart
your
age,
we
actually
have
a
unique
situation
where
we
have
the
distances,
the
people
who
do
competition,
shooting,
which
is
in
meters
on
the
Olympic
shooting,
and
we
also
have
the
ability
for
people
who
are
for
gain
for
hunting.
So
we've
set
up
ten
yards.
What
sites
for
the
beginners?
That
was
one
that
was
recommended
by
the
National
Field
archery
Association,
and
then
they
progressively
move
the
way
up,
and
then
we
also
have
that.
B
A
B
From
the
parking
lot
to
the
shooting
firing
line
right
there,
the
concrete
firing
line
these
gravel
paths
are
put
in
and
those
are
at
88
compliance,
they're,
green
and
also
the
concrete
itself
is
at
88
once
they
shoot
general
throughout
the
site.
Here
we
actually
have
88
paths,
lingo
down
and
utilize
the
targets
and
able
to
pull
off
their
barrels.
The.
A
B
Now
we
have
18,
there
is
room
for
two
more
or
four
more
sites,
but
we
felt
that,
with
the
new
changes
that
some
of
the
people
that
we've
interviewed
over
the
time
doing,
research
on
this
people
were
not
staying
and
blowing
from
the
shoot
that
actually
living
bullet
it.
Because-
and
we
felt
that
with
the
new
safety
precautions
we
put
out
here.
B
A
It's
free
it's
outdoors
and
there's
hardly
ever
any
waiting.
Correct
sounds
like
fun.
I
think
I'll,
try
my
hand
at
some
archery.
What
has
come
along
as
I
get
a
lesson
before
I
try
my
hand
at
taking
a
few
shots
with
the
bow
and
arrow
I
thought.
I'd.
Give
you
a
quick
update
on
a
couple
of
things
going
on
around
the
city
of
Bloomington.
First
of
all,
the
Human
Rights
Commission
is
seeking
nominations
for
the
Omar
Banda
route
award.
A
Now
the
Omar
Banda
Road
award
is
named
for
the
first
chair
of
the
Human
Rights
Commission
formed
back
in
1968,
and
it
recognizes
individuals
or
organizations
who
are
working
to
ensure
rights
for
people
in
the
city
of
Bloomington.
Last
year
the
honoree
was
Normandale
Community
College
for
work
that
they're
doing
around
inclusion.
A
If
you
know
of
somebody
or
some
organization
that
should
be
recognized
for
the
work
they're
doing
to
make
Bloomington
a
more
inclusive
and
fair
and
open
and
welcoming
community
and
advancing
the
rights
of
people
in
our
community,
please
take
the
time
to
nominate
them.
Nominations
are
due
on
Friday,
August
25th.
So
again,
that's
the
whole
Maher
bonder
route
award
and
that's
being
presented
by
the
Human
Rights
Commission
later
this
year.
A
A
It's
a
very
challenging
issue,
but
it's
also
going
to
be
a
little
bit
precedent-setting,
because
we've
probably
got
30
more
of
these
types
of
projects
in
the
queue
for
our
city,
as
we
are
starting
to
turn
over
a
lot
of
our
legacy
infrastructure,
that's
aging
and
we're
starting
to
identify
decades
of
growth
impact
and
what
happens
in
the
changing
community
we're
seeing
different
patterns
of
how
our
storm
sewer
is
performing
and
improvements
that
need
to
be
made
to
support
it.
So
this
is
an
interesting
one.
A
Just
from
a
public
policy
perspective,
it
doesn't
necessarily
have
a
lot
of
impact
on
our
employees,
but
it
certainly
has
a
large
impact
on
people
who
travel
through
that
section
and
also
it
has
large
impact
on
our
engineering
staff
has
been
working
really
diligently
and
I.
Think
really
well
with
the
property
owners
to
try
to
get
to
a
workable
solution.
A
Last
thing
I
want
to
talk
about.
If
you
read
my
column
in
The
Insider
last
week,
you're-
probably
wondering
a
little
bit
of
what's
that
about
so
here's
what
that's
about
again,
highlighting
the
work
of
the
high-performing
organization
to
constantly
assess
its
services,
to
make
sure
that
what
we're
doing
is
meeting
the
needs
and
expectations
of
our
community
to
make
sure
we're
doing
it
efficiently
and
effectively
as
possible
and
that
we're
doing
it
from
a
cost.
A
Conscious
perspective
budget
conversations
with
the
council
this
year
and
last
year,
we're
looking
at
areas
that
we
should
be
evaluating
to
see
if
we
are
still
performing
at
the
level
that
our
residents
expect
and
that
we're
still
doing
it
in
the
most
cost-effective
way.
We're
going
to
start
doing
these
evaluations
with
our
Human
Services
Division
and
our
Public
Health
Division
and
we've
talked
to
both
of
those
divisions
now
to
share
this
with
them.
A
And
then,
when
we
finish
with
these
evaluations,
we're
going
to
we're
going
to
work
through
the
rest
of
the
organization
over
the
next
couple
of
years.
So
I
don't
want
people
to
receive
from
this
message
that
there
is
some
underlying
intent
here
to
start
cutting
programs
and
services
in
discussions
with
the
council.
That's
not
what
their
focus
is.
A
As
the
executive
leadership
team
works
to
develop
a
schedule
for
when
we're
going
to
work
through
those
evaluations
and
for
those
who
are
involved
in
those
reviews
at
a
department
or
division
level.
My
commitment
to
you
is
that
you
will
be
informed
and
included
as
we
go
through
that
problem.
So
those
are
three
quick
hitting
updates
for
you.
Let's
go
back
to
the
archery
range
and
see
how
I
do
with
the
bow
and
arrow
a
little
preview.
A
C
What
we
have
here
is
a
kind
of
a
standard
compound
hunting
bow
we'll
see
a
lot
of
different
balls
out
at
the
Bloomington
range,
but
today
this
is
the
hunting
bow.
So
what
we're
going
to
do
is
we're
going
to
be
shooting
your
release
instead
of
fingers.
Okay,
it
will
click
onto
that.
Little
knot,
point
right
there
and
again
a
bow
is
kind
of
unique.
You
got
a
front
sight
and
your
back
side
is
this
little
peephole
back
here,
so
we're
on
a
gun
that
would
be
on
one
one
type.
C
C
A
A
C
This
is
this
is
the
absolute
perfect
layout
for
Range
Safety
interferometry.
This
is
a
great
layout.
I
think
you
guys
already
talked
about
it's
accessible.
It
gets
everybody
talking
on
the
same
plane,
no
matter
how
far
away
they're
shooting
this
is
my
opinion,
the
most
ideal,
hard
rearranging
setup
you
can
out
alright.
