Description
City of Boulder Solar Grant & Affordable Housing Programs
A
D
When
we
were
looking
for
houses
in
boulder,
you
know,
of
course,
like
everybody
else.
You
have
this
realization
that
everything's
incredibly
expensive
and
oh
my
gosh.
How
are
we
going
to
afford
all
of
this
and
somehow
we
learned
about
affordable
housing
and
it
fit
us
very
well
and
when
it
came
time
to
actually
go
look
at
houses,
we
looked
at
like
we.
D
C
So
we
had
this
great
idea.
We
were
ready.
We
had
the
lifestyle,
we
were
biking
every
day.
We
wanted
solar,
since
as
long
as
we
could
remember
so,
we
approach
the
city.
We
start
getting
ideas
of
how
much
it's
going
to
cost
us.
You
know,
there's
excel
rebates
and
so
we're
still
looking
at
a
fair,
big
chunk
of
money
and
being
that
it's
an
affordable
house.
C
You
know
we
cap
what
we
can
return
when
we
sell
the
house
and
so
there's
certain
capital
improvements,
but
solar
panels,
weren't
capital
improvements
at
the
point,
and
so
when
we
started
the
process
there
was
the
grant
price.
There
was
a
grant
in
place,
so
we
were
able
to
recoup
a
fair
amount
of
the
money,
but
not
as
much
to
make
it
financially
feasible
as
we
would
have
liked,
and
so
we
started
talking
back
and
forth
and
bantering
and
working
with
the
city
and
at
some
point
the
whole
process
kind
of
stopped.
C
We
weren't
able
to
do
it.
We
were
kind
of
discouraged
and
then
one
day
we
got
a
call
and
we
were
so
excited
and
it
said
yes,
you
can
make
these
solar
panels
capital
improvements,
and
so
we
were
able
to
increase
the
selling
price
of
our
house
by
a
amount
that
we're
going
to
make
it
feasible
again
right.
D
C
D
We
have
10
solar
panels
up
on
our
roof
and
together
they
produce
1.87
kilowatts,
that's
enough
for
us
to
power
our
house
entirely.
So
during
the
summer,
when
the
sun's
high
up
in
the
sky,
we
make
a
lot
a
lot
of
excess
energy,
and
during
a
couple
of
the
winter
months,
we
actually
use
a
little
bit
more
electricity
than
we
produce,
but
since
we're
tied
to
the
grid
through
excel
that
all
balance
is
out,
and
basically
we
don't
ever
pay
for
electricity
every
day.
We're
checking
the
meter
looking
to
see.
D
B
As
of
2009,
the
solar
grant
program
has
resulted
in
the
reduction
of
over
256
tons
of
carbon
emissions
each
year
and
saves
grant
recipients
over
35
000
a
year
on
energy
costs.
The
cumulative
effects
of
these
programs
will
help
preserve
our
environment
and
our
way
of
life
for
future
generations.
These.
