A
A
Welcome
to
inside
Boulder
news,
I'm
Ashley
Prell,
the
melody
catalpa
neighborhood
in
North
Boulder
is
the
first
be
safe
neighborhood
in
Colorado.
Thanks
to
the
efforts
of
three
neighborhood
residents,
200
households
have
pledged
not
to
use
systemic
pesticides
called
neonicotinoids
on
their
lawns
or
gardens.
Well,.
B
We've
learned
about
us
program
from
living
systems.
Institute
in
golden
called,
be
safe
neighborhoods.
The
idea
is
to
get
75
contiguous
households
to
pledge
not
to
use
the
most
dangerous
kind
of
pesticides
called
neonicotinoids.
There
Neil
knew
nicotine
I'd
nicotine
based
pesticides.
These
are
systemic
pesticides
that
go
throughout
the
system
of
the
plant
and
so
the
bees
when
they
collect
pollen
and
nectar,
collect
that
poison
and
take
it
back
to
their
hives
and
weaken
the
hives,
which
leads
to
death
and
is
blamed
for
being
the
main
cause
for
calling
collapses
or
every.
C
Single
person
I
ask
signed
on
immediately,
of
course,
I
never
use
anything.
They
say
and
I
will
help
you.
If
you
want
to
talk
with
other
people
and
I'll
talk
to
my
other
neighbors
that
guy
over
there
always
uses
pesticide
on
his
lawn
this
year
he
used
organo
lon.
He
said
you
know,
we've
been
thinking.
Maybe
this
stuff
wasn't
good
for
us,
and
so
I
explained
to
him
why
it
isn't
good
for
him
or
his
wife
or
his
grandkids
or
his
bets,
and
so
he's
a
convert
rather.
D
E
The
actions
that
we're
all
taking
now
we'll
really
have
an
impact
on
alleviating
some
of
the
pressure
on
our
native
pollinators
and
on
our
honeybees.
You
can
find
retailers
that
carry
plants
and
haven't
been
treated,
but
you
have
to
ask,
and
for
certain
plants
it's
more
difficult
to
find
them
than
others
to
really
encourage
people
to
plant
native
plants.
It's
easier
to
find
native
plant
sources,
they
haven't
been
treated
and
those
are
great
for
our
ailing
pollinators
native
pollinators.
E
A
F
Of
great
species
that
are
local
to
here,
especially
along
the
Front
Range
they've,
got
incredible
blooms
on
it
very
long,
long
lasting
so
that
would
probably
be
the
best
way
is
to
find
neo
Nix
free
native
plants.
If
you
can't
do
that,
you
need
to
think
about
the
invasiveness
of
the
ornamental
plants
that
you
are
buying.
We
manage
70
different
species
on
open
space
and
about
half
of
those
invasive
species
either
are
currently
sold
or
have
been
sold
as
ornamental
plants.

More
information
about
responsible
landscaping
and
gardening-
you
can
log
on
to
the
Colorado
native
plant
society's
website,
as
well
as
the
city's
website.
If
you're
interested
in
learning
more
about
how
to
create
your
own
be
safe,
neighborhood,
the
melody
catalpa
neighbors
are
hosting
an
informational
meeting
on
wednesday
july
9th
from
seven
to
nine
p.m.
at
the
Elks
Lodge
City
Council
recently
agreed
to
consider
a
2014
ballot
measure
that
would
allow
the
city
of
Boulder
to
provide
broadband
services,
either
directly
or
through
a
contract
with
a
third
party.
A
G
G
We
could
use
this
for
public
purposes
that
we
are
currently
restricted
from
providing,
for
example,
think
of
Wi-Fi
in
parks
and
public
spaces,
and
what
have
you
but
again,
there's
that
ability
for
us
to
address
the
economic
development
opportunities
of
having
high
speed
internet
and
the
residential
opportunities
and
the
digital
divide,
issues
that
exist
in
the
community
for
those
that
don't
have
access
to
the
Internet.
The
ability
for
us
to
provide
those
resources
in
public
places
as
well
would
be
a
great
motivation
for
us
to
pursue.
H
This
there's
actually
about
400
cities
throughout
the
nation
that
have
made
some
level
of
investment
in
broadband.
I.
Think
people
are
really
well
aware
of
the
Google
Fiber
initiatives
in
Kansas,
City,
Provo,
Utah,
Austin
Texas,
but
there's
actually
lots
that
have
entered
into
publicly
owned
investments
that
are
paying
off
big
time.
Chattanooga
Tennessee
is
perhaps
one
of
the
biggest
examples
of
providing
one
gigabit
per
second
speed
to
all
of
their
residents
and
businesses,
doing
it
for
seventy
dollars
per
month
and
at
just
an
extraordinary
of
bandwidth.
H
That
is
about
50
times
what
people
typically
receive
and
I
can
tell
you
that
the
bigger
concern
is
what's
been
done,
but
internationally
we
have
hundreds
of
cities
that
are
competing
with
us
that
are
providing
much
higher
speed
internet
at
a
lower
cost,
essentially
going
to
be
competing
for
businesses.
That
may
go
there
and
that's
why
the
FCC
chair
has
urged
States
the
19
states
in
the
US
that
have
bands
or
restrictions
municipal
broadband
to
lift
that
to
get
out
of
the
way
and
let
people
and
let
cities
move
forward.
City.
A
Council
is
scheduled
to
consider
a
second
reading
of
the
proposed
ordinance
in
August,
along
with
the
final
language
for
the
November
ballot
measure.
If
passed,
voters
will
have
the
final
say
in
November.
You
can
find
more
information
about
the
proposed
ordinance
on
the
city's
website
at
Boulder,
Colorado
gov,
Wednesday,
July,
9th
you're
invited
to
participate
in
the
17th
annual
Pearl
Street
mile
running
and
walking
enthusiasts
of
all
ages,
and
about
ladies,
are
welcome
and
the
first
wave
will
kick
off
at
630pm.
A
The
race
starts
and
ends
on
pearl
and
14th
streets,
and
there
will
be
free,
live
music
from
a
90s
cover
bands,
starting
at
7pm
to
register
for
the
race
log
on
to
downtown
Boulder
races
com.
On
sunday
august,
third
Boulder
will
host
its
first
full-length
Ironman.
Triathlon
athletes
will
begin
with
a
2.4
mile
swim
in
the
boulder
reservoir
transition
to
biking
112
miles
with
just
over
4,000
feet
of
gain
and
finish
by
running
a
marathon
on
the
boulder
creek
trail
for
one
local
family.
It's
a
dream
come
true.
I
My
mom
did
her
first
Ironman
and
I
kind
of
was
like.
Oh,
this
is
something
I
want
to
do
when
I'm
older,
and
we
had
some
friends
who
had
their
son
do
one
when
he
was
18
and
I
thought
it
was
such
a
cool
experience
cuz
he
got
to
do
it
with
both
of
his
parents
and
I
was
like
I
want
to
do
something,
and
so,
when
we
found
out
that
Boulder
was
having
an
iron
man,
it
was
just
the
perfect
opportunity
for
my
mom
and
I
to
get
to
do
this
race
together.
A
I
Matter
where
you
are
in
Boulder
you'll
always
see
someone
else
out
there.
So
even
if
it's
windy
or
training
there's
bound
to
be
somebody
else
in
Boulder,
this
is
crazy
to
see
you
who's
out
there
training.
So
we
hardly
ever
go
on
a
ride
where
we
don't
see
another
biker
or
you're
on
the
creek
path
and
you're
running
and
there's
always
other
runners
out
there.
So
it's
almost
like
your
sense
of
community,
even
though
you
don't
know
everybody
Jennifer.
J
Is
going
to
be
my
sixth
and
final,
one
I
think
I'm
going
to
do
this,
one
with
my
daughter
and
then
hang
up
my
racing
shoes
for
a
little
while
and
maybe
climbed
some
fourteeners
and
do
some
other
fun
things
in
Colorado.
That's
not
quite
as
long
of
a
day
as
the
Iron
Man,
hopefully
it'll
be
a
best
day,
one
of
the
best
days
of
her
life
and
yeah.
You
know
we
look
forward
to
the
party
celebration
on
Pearl
Street,
because
the
last
hour,
the
Iron
Man,
is
the
best
party
in
the
world.
J
It's
really
the
spectators,
people
that
I
know
you
know
who
have
came
say
they
didn't
realize
how
wonderful
would
be
and
they
got
caught
up
in
it.
It's
really
amazing
to
hear
your
name
Fiona,
drats
Co.
You
are
an
iron
man.
That's
what
she
hopes
to
hear
as
she
crosses
the
finish
line
to
view
the
full.

Customers,
you
always
recognize
the
faces
names
with
me
or
hard
to
remember
all
the
names,
but
I
think
friendship
means
so
much.
You
can
help
people
and
they
help
you
in
ways.
You
never
know
I,
like
being
local.
