Description
This week on Inside Boulder News: Four finalists for the Chief of Police position share their vision; dog owners are encouraged to get a head start on new Voice and Sight Tag Program requirements; and Boulder Airport Day provides an opportunity to appreciate first responders from last year's flood.
A
A
A
B
Such
a
critical
position
for
the
community,
it
makes
sense
to
have
the
public
be
able
to
hear
their
presentations.
What's
their
vision
for
the
police
department
be
able
to
provide
feedback
to
the
city
manager
on
which
candidate
they
think
would
be
the
best
fit
for
our
community
and,
of
course,
they
have
an
opportunity
to
talk
with
each
of
the
candidates,
one
on
one
of
the
reception.
So
that's
a
tradition,
we're
carrying
on
with
this
position
and
one
that
we
certainly
see
a
lot
of
value
in
in.
A
Addition
to
the
public
presentations
each
candidate
also
participated
this
week
in
an
intense
interview
process
involving
city
leadership
outside
law
enforcement
agencies,
the
boulder
police
officers
association
and
the
Builder
Municipal
Employees
Association.
They
will
be
evaluated
on
policing
standards,
leadership,
experience
and
preparedness
to
serve
the
boulder
community
as
Chief
of
Police.
The
final
decision
is
likely
to
be
made
next
week.
A
Safety
is
the
number-one
priority
for
the
staff
at
the
boulder
reservoir.
As
we
head
into
summer,
lifeguards
are
on
duty
in
the
swim
area.
Lake
patrol
operates
on
a
daily
basis
and
the
water
is
constantly
tested
to
monitor
bacteria
levels.
Last
week
the
swim
beach
was
closed
temporarily
because
those
bacteria
levels
were
too
high.
We.
C
Test,
our
water,
weekly
and
that's
mandated
by
the
state,
the
state
has
standards
that
we
follow
and
what
we're
testing
for
is
a
strain
of
bacteria
and
it
exists
in
the
water
on
a
regular
basis,
but
when
it
reaches
a
certain
level
that
is
a
state-mandated
level.
We
have
to
close
the
swim
beach
and
it's
something
that
happens
at
least
once
or
twice
every
season.
We
think
the
major
cause
of
it
is
just
natural
runoff
from
geese
or
wildlife.
That's
in
the
area.
C
We
are
a
natural
swimming
body
of
water,
so
there
are
animals
that
are
all
over
and
brought
when
rain
happens
and
runoff
happens
into
the
water.
We
think
that's
what
causes
the
higher
levels
of
bacteria
test
results
take
24
hours.
So
if
we
take
the
test
at
three
o'clock
in
the
afternoon,
we
won't
get
it
back
until
three
o'clock
the
next
day.
So
we
have
to
remain
close
that
entire
time
to.
