Description
This week on Inside Boulder News: Open Space and Mountain Parks has a new director; Boulder’s first creative re-use center is open to the public; and local teens use art-based projects to promote social justice and resist violence in our community.
A
Welcome
to
inside
builder
news,
I'm
ashley
pro
after
a
national
search
city
manager,
Jane
Brautigam
announced
this
week
that
Tracey
Winfrey
is
boulders
next
open
space
and
mountain
parks
director
when
free
has
served
as
interim
OS
MP
director
since
December
replacing
Mike
Patton,
who
retired
after
nearly
thirty
nine
years
of
city
service
when
free
his
work
for
the
city
of
Boulder
since
1990,
and
served
as
the
director
of
public
works
for
transportation
from
2001.
Until
taking
the
interim
OMP
director
position.
A
Six
months
ago,
Winfrey
was
selected
among
95
applicants
and
holds
a
bachelor
of
arts
and
architecture
from
Princeton
University
builders.
First
creative
reuse
center
is
officially
open
to
the
public.
Art
parts
takes
raw
materials
like
glass,
plastic,
metal,
wood
and
paper
that
are
no
longer
needed
or
wanted
and
makes
them
available
for
education
and
art.
B
C
Parts
creative
reuse
center
is
the
third
creative
reuse
center
to
open
in
Colorado
and
approximately
the
63rd
to
open
in
the
country.
I'd
like
to
say
it's
our
idea,
but
it's
not
San
Francisco
opened
the
first
creative
reuse
center
as
early
as
1976.
So
it's
about
time,
Boulder
County
finally
had
its
own
as
well.
There's
a
reason
why
businesses
in
Boulder
County
recycled
just
twenty-seven
percent
of
their
waste.
It's
not
because
they
want
to
throw
out
all
that
excess.
C
It's
largely
because
traditional
recycling,
like
eco
cycle,
simply
can't
accept
things
like
these
large
fabric
wheels
or
sample
books
from
innovative
openings
and
Hunter
Douglas
Boulder
County
can
now
be
proud
to
have
one
of
just
three
creative
reuse,
centers
in
the
whole
state
and
a
place
where
you
can
really
feed
your
creativity
with
really
interesting.
Unusual
found
no
place
else.
Industry,
surplus
and
vintage
materials
and
just
a
welcoming
accepting
creative
groovy
place,
art.
A
Parts
accepts
clean,
non-toxic
donations
on
fridays
and
saturdays
during
business
hours
due
to
limited
space.
Art
parts
has
very
specific
donation
procedures
for
a
list
of
accepted
items
and
donation
instructions
visit
art
parts,
Boulder
org,
almost
1300
fifth-grade
students
from
across
Boulder
County
came
together
this
week
to
take
part
in
the
annual
children's
water
festival.
The
nationally
recognized
award-winning
water
festival
engages
students
through
hands-on
activities
and
interactive
presentations.
D
We
have
metro
state
university
theatre
students
who
do
an
amazing
job
of
just
relating
to
students,
because
these
are
college
students
talking
to
younger
students
about
how
water
works
and
tyne
and
so
many
topics,
since
just
a
matter
of
20
minutes
without
using
any
technology
or
props
and
I
mean
it's
one
of
the
best
presentations
I've
ever
seen.
Well,.
A
E
I
think
collaboration
really
speaks
to
the
nature
of
water.
Water
doesn't
respect
boundaries,
I
mean
we
all
have
a
duty
to
protect
it
and
it
flows.
You
know
from
the
from
the
top
of
the
watershed
down
to
the
end
of
the
stream
out
to
the
Gulf,
so
the
collaboration
is
really
important,
because
just
we
have
people
that
go
in
and
out
of
our
communities.
The
kids
that
are
coming
here
go
to
schools
all
across
all
across
the
the
region.

You
don't
typically
think
of
high
school
students
leading
the
charge,
but
peers
building
justice
is
determined
to
change
that
perspective.
Peers
building
justice
uses
creative
art

projects
to
give
local
high

a
voice
about
topics.
Most
people
are
too
scared
to
talk
about.
A
F
F
I
You
know
it's
one
showcase
it's
two
hours,
but
it
makes
a
really
strong
impact
on
the
people
that
are
here
or
right
to
to
try
to
be
better
in
to
do
that.
Thing
that
maybe
they're,
afraid
of
doing
or
I
is
uncomfortable
and
say
like
hey.
What
does
that
save
it
mean
or
to
bring
something
into
a
conversation?
That's
missing,
I.
J
Am
a
believer
in
equality
because
I
think
that
need
to
have
equal
wage
and
equal
rights,
no
matter
what
your
color,
sexual
or
gender
orientation
is,
and
so
this
is
a
way
as
young
as
I
am
now
for
me
to
start
activating
or
to
start
becoming
an
activist
in
my
community,
and
he
is
willing.
Justice
gives
me
the
Gateway
to
do
that.
This
was.
H
Really
their
chance
to
share
what
they've
learned
with
the
community
and
and
also
putting
themselves
into
it,
so
it
was.
It
was
just
really
amazing
to
see
the
main
thing
I
saw
was
their
bravery
and
being
vulnerable
sharing
parts
of
themselves,
some
things
that
they
care
about,
while
tying
it
into
a
larger
social
issues,
I'm
just
so
proud
of
them.
Yeah
they're,
amazing.
There.
