Description
This week on Inside Boulder News: Assault Weapons Ban, SmartRegs, and Children's Water Festival
A
A
Welcome
to
inside
Boulder
news
your
source
for
all
things:
Boulder
I'm,
Jonathan,
Daniel,
Boulder,
City,
Council,
voted
unanimously
at
the
May
15th
meeting
to
ban
the
sale
and
possession
of
assault
weapons.
Bum
socks
in
high-capacity
magazines
within
city
limits,
owning
one
of
these
banned
weapons
will
be
considered
a
misdemeanor
crime.
Boulder
now
joins
two
other
Colorado
cities,
then
friend
Ville
in
banning
assault
weapons.
The
ordinance
defines
assault
weapons
as
semi-automatic
firearms,
designed
with
military
features
to
allow
rapid
spray
firing
for
the
quick
and
efficient
killings
of
humans.
A
But
the
city
has
no
intention
of
going
door-to-door
to
enforce
these
new
firearm
regulations.
Police
officers
could
only
take
action
to
enforce
the
ban
if
they
come
in
contact
with
someone
in
possession
of
these
firearms
during
normal
police
work.
Boulder
residents
who
have
these
items
before
June
15th
will
be
allowed
to
keep
them
they
will
have
until
the
end
of
the
year.
However,
to
obtain
a
certification
from
the
city
turn
it
into
authorities
disable
the
gun,
so
it
doesn't
work
or
remove
it
from
city
limits.
A
The
ordinance
exempts
police
and
federal
officers
as
well
as
military
personnel,
all
sales
and
purchases
of
assault
weapons
in
the
city
of
Boulder
will
be
prohibited,
starting
June
15th.
The
smart
works
program
is
the
basic
level
of
energy
efficiency
required
to
license
rental
properties
across
the
city
of
Boulder.
The
2010
adoption
of
this
program
was
an
effort
to
improve
energy
efficiency
and
resident
comfort.
The
city
designed
an
8-year
compliance
timeline
to
give
landlords
time
to
make
necessary
updates
to
their
homes
by
December
31st
2018.
A
As
of
March
of
this
year,
77%
of
rental
units
are
in
compliance
with
the
deadline
fast
approaching.
The
city
wants
to
remind
the
remaining
23
percent
of
property
owners
that
there
are
resources
available
to
help
reach
compliance.
Half
the
residential
units
in
the
city
of
Boulder,
rentals
and
the
city
requires
that
rental
properties
be
inspected
and
licensed.
There
are
a
total
of
23,000
licensed
rental
units
in
the
city
of
Boulder.

A
H
Boulder
we've
been
looking
for
a
place
that
was
more
centrally
located
that
was
close
to
downtown
and
that
had
a
lot
more
space.
So
we
could
really
showcase
boulders
history,
boulders
vibrant
community
today,
and
also
bring
in
these
really
wonderful
traveling
exhibitions
from
all
over
the
country
and
internationally
partially.
