which
is
why

The
city
awarded
nearly
three
million
dollars
to
19
nonprofit
agencies
for
programs
aimed
at
decreasing
health
disparities
and
increasing
health
equity
in
Boulder
are
the
next
four
weeks
inside
Boulder
news
we'll
be
bringing
you
the
stories
of
some
of
these
organizations
and
the
community
members
benefiting
from
this
program.
This
week
we
take
a
look
at
boulders
farmers
market
food
assistance
program
in
July
of
2017,
the
voter-approved
sweetened
beverage
product
distribution
tax
took
effect.
This
fund
has
allocated
approximately
7.3
million
dollars
to
programs
aimed
at
decreasing
health
disparities
and
increasing
health
equity
in
Boulder.
C
Three
different
programs
that
the
health
equity
fund
supports.
One
is
double
up:
food
bucks
where
individuals
who
receive
SNAP
benefits
they
can
come
and
run
their
card
and
say,
for
instance,
I
would
like
twenty
dollars
in
snap
vouchers,
which
is
a
form
of
currency.
Then
they
can
spend
SNAP
benefits
at
the
market
when
they
do
that
we
will
double
their
$20.
So
now
they
have
forty
dollars
to
spend
and
that
doubling
is
funded
by
the
health
equity
fund.
Another.
A
Program,
the
farmer's
market
food
assistance
program
supports
is
farm
to
early
childhood
education.
Here,
funding
received
supports
weekly
produce
boxes,
valued
at
$50
that
are
then
distributed
to
each
early
childhood
education
center
in
the
city
for
children
to
have
access
to
fresh,
healthy
produce,
children.
