Description
This week on Inside Boulder News: Google to move ahead with four-acre campus at Pearl and 30th streets; new fire chief takes the helm; and hundreds of community members celebrate groundbreaking of Boulder’s new Jewish Community Center.
A
A
Welcome
to
inside
builder
news,
I'm
ashley
pearl
a
major
economic
development
project
made
news
this
week,
when
City
Council
decided
not
to
review
the
site
design
plans
for
Google's
new
four
acre
campus.
That
will
be
built
at
30th
and
pearl.
The
three
four
story,
buildings,
which
were
approved
with
some
modifications
by
the
Planning
Board,
will
house
1500
employees.
The
complex
will
be
built
in
an
area
designed
to
be
a
transportation
hub.
Nonetheless,
the
proposal
was
not
without
critics.
Well,.
B
It
was
interesting,
I
think
what
would
happen
to
counsel
and
would
this
particular
project
I
think
in
in
some
ways
the
attendant
got
mixed
up
with
the
development
review
process,
and
so
there
to
me
there
discrete.
So
you
know
the
Planning
Board
did
its
job
and
did
it
well
in
terms
of
looking
at
the
design
issues,
the
citing
the
site
review
criteria,
so
I
think
they
did
all
that
right.
Certainly
there's
a
question
when
we
bring
a
lot
of
jobs
to
town
of
what's
going
to
happen
to
housing
prices.
A
B
I
mean
I
think
you
know
we're
seeing
now
in
our
community
kind
of
a
burst
of
development
activity,
and
we
had
I
think
for
a
long
time
that
was
kind
of
suppressed
from
2008
on,
and
so
things
are
finally
getting
rolling
again.
So
we're
seeing
a
lot
of
it
happen
all
at
once,
and
we
were
certainly
hearing
from
some
members
of
our
community
that
there
are
concerns.
What
does
it
mean
about
traffic?
What
does
it
mean
about
the
cost
of
housing?
What
does
it
mean
about
congestion?
B
A
B
Know
I
think
it
says
a
lot
about
our
quality
of
life
and
about
the
talent
pool
the
people
we
have
here
in
Boulder
that
they
can
hire,
and
so
that's
pretty
exciting
and
they're
going
to
bring
a
lot
of
high-paying
jobs
to
our
community
and
add
a
lot
of
value
and
I.
Think
they're
going
to
be
a
great
citizen
of
Boulder
Deputy.
A
Chief
Michael
calderas
Oh
has
been
named
the
new
fire
chief
for
the
city
of
Boulder
Cal
Durazo,
who
has
22
years
of
firefighting.
Experience
has
been
serving
as
interim
chief
since
the
retirement
of
Larry
Donner
in
October
in
his
previous
role
with
Boulder
Colorado,
managed
the
department's
16
million
dollar
budget
and
directed
response
divisions,
including
seven
fire
stations
and
114
structural
and
wildland
firefighters.
He
also
oversaw
training
prior
to
coming
to
boulder.
He
was
the
assistant
fire
chief
in
El,
Paso
Texas.
The
promotion
takes
effect
January.
Fifth.
A
C
This
moment
is
not
about
any
one
person.
It's
about
a
community
coming
together
and
what's
happened
here
is
something
so
powerful
and
so
momentous
when
there's
a
group
of
people
who
have
an
idea
and
then
there's
a
group
of
people
who
helped
take
that
idea
and
make
it
a
reality.
And
that's
what
we're
seeing
here
and
it's
going
to
be
for
generations
and
generations
to
come.
C
We're
going
to
be
offering
an
expanded
early
childhood
center,
starting
with
infants
all
the
way
up
to
pre-k.
We
even
have
a
transitional
kindergarten,
we're
gonna
have
gymnasium
and
fitness.
We're
gave
an
amazing
event
center
for
200
to
250
and
rounds.
There's
going
to
be
places
for
the
community
to
do
art
and
children
to
do
classes.
It's
really
a
place
for
the
entire
boulder
community
to
come
together
and
learn
and
connect
and
create
together.

The

We

about

amazing

some
presenters
that
work

us.
We
do
all
kinds
of
workshops

programs
very
targeted
to
the
different
types
of
businesses
that
we
work
with
and
then
we're

So
there
are
some
great
strategic

Last
week
the
city
hosted
the
second
of
two
listening
sessions
for
the
public
to
gather
information
for
the
envision
east
arapahoe
project.
A
The
envisioned
east
arapahoe
project
aims
to
create
a
community
driven
vision
plan
that
will
result
in
a
mix
of
uses
and
walkable
places
that
are
better
connected
with
the
rest
of
the
city
in
region.
During
the
session
community
members
asked
questions
about
a
variety
of
issues
ranging
from
zoning
to
transportation,
preserving
mountain
views
and
how
their
input
will
impact
the
planning
process.
I
think.
E
It's
helpful
I
mean
we
definitely
were
hearing
some
different
voices
and
some
people
expressing
concern
that
they
didn't
know
enough
about
the
project
and
what
was
going
on,
and
so
it
felt
like
a
good
time
to
take
a
bit
of
a
pause
and
step
back
and
hear
what
people
were
saying
and
what
they're
concerned
about
what
they're
interested
in
and
so
for
us.
It's
been
helpful
to
be
able
to
just
understand
what
people
are
worried
about
and
what
they're
interested
in
what
their.
What
they'd
like
to
see
happen.
So.
E
We
take
a
lot
of
this
feedback
and
information
that
we've
been
gathering
for
the
last
few
months
and
then
we're
also
working
with
consultants
to
do
analysis
on
a
set
of
scenarios
and
ideas
and
we'll
bring
those
back
in
February
to
a
next
community
event
and
present
the
analysis
and
then
let
people
have
some
say
and
what
they
like
and
don't
like
and
how
they
like
to
see
the
project
move
forward.
So
it's
one
step
of
many
in
a
process
as
we
move
forward
to.

A
G
G
So
what
we
were
trying
to
do
was
have
there
be
a
nice
interaction
between
the
colors
of
the
metal
and
the
in
the
environment
which
it
is
in
so
we
have
done
the
front
arch
is
work
dominant
and
the
back
arch
is
wet
dominant.
So,
as
the
viewer
comes
up
to
look
at
it,
you
see
the
completed,
woven
piece
when
you're
looking
through
both
arches
and
then
we
wanted
to
have
this
color.
This
interaction
with
light.
G
So
to
have
it
be
illuminated
with
LEDs,
so
the
it's
been
a
real
study,
just
like
you
would,
with
a
yarn
color
study,
to
see
the
interplay
of
the
colors
with
Viet
metals
and
how
the
lights
change
and
reflect
refract
off
the
metals
and
the
woven
surface.
So
we
had
a
lot
of
fun.
Putting
this
together,
recruiting
all
the
expertise
we
needed
from
the
community.
