A
Welcome
to
inside
Boulder
news,
I'm
Natalie
Wood,
it's
been
50
years
since
his
historic
spaceflight,
but
our
town
hasn't
forgotten
the
accomplishments
of
Boulder
native
scott
Carpenter.
The
87
year
old
astronaut
returned
to
his
hometown
last
week
to
rededicate
the
park
named
after
him
around
four
hundred
spectators
gathered
alongside
city
and
state
officials
at
scott
carpenter
park
to
commemorate
its
rededication
and
welcome
commander
carpenter
back
to
boulder.

Brings
back
for
me,
memories
of
when
I
was
in
second
grade
and
was
able
to
watch
him
go
around
the
earth
on
on
May
twenty-fourth
1962
and
that
really
affected
me
and
I.
Think
it
affected
many
in
our
generation
in
terms
of
what
we
could
do
as
individuals.
Scott
Carpenter
is
one
of
our
biggest
heroes
here
in
Boulder
and
he's
affected
profoundly.
So
many
younger
people
in
terms
of
their
careers
and
what
they've
done
commander.

Been
a
monumental
partnership
and
at
the
University
of
Colorado
we're
all
about
collaboration
and
discovery,
and
innovation
and
education
and,
of
course,
in
safety,
and
this
is
a
perfect
example
of
interagency
collaboration
in
the
name
of
safety
for
all
generations.
Students
that
will
have
this
group
of
people.
A
To
fight
for
more
information
on
the
Broadway
Euclid
improvements
project
visit,
Boulder
transportation
net,
we
may
be
weeks
away
from
the
first
snow,
but
it's
officially
snow
season
for
boulders
transportation
and
utilities
department.
The
city
began:
preparing
snow
response
operations
on
sep,
tember,
10th
and
Public
Works
officials
say
it's
important
to
get
started
early,
here's
what
the
city
is
doing
to
prepare
for
snow
and
how
the
process
is
constantly
improving.
Getting.
I
Started
earlier,
it
means
that
everybody
is
used
to
the
cycle
of
getting
prepared
for
snow
as
opposed
to
just
coming
off
cold,
so
to
speak
and
not
being
up
to
speed
on
our
snow
removal
practices.
It's
unusual,
but
it
is
possible
to
have
snow
in
September,
so
our
snow
season
starts
usually
the
first
or
second
week
of
September,
operationally
we're
inspecting
all
our
equipment
and
making
sure
everything's
up
and
running
we're
replacing
consumable
items
like
where
blades
and
conveyor
chains
and
things
like
that.
We're
making
sure
our
staffing
is
correct.
I
The
Transportation
Department
has
undertaken
an
internal
snow
and
ice
control
analysis,
we're
doing
everything
from
staffing
levels,
hours
of
operation,
chemical
usage,
weather
forecasting,
trying
to
take
into
account
any
global
warming
issues.
We're
seeing-
and
all
of
this
is
part
of
a
process
of
continuous
improvement
to
make
sure
that
we're
being
as
efficient
as
effective
as
we
can
with
the
limited
dollars
that
we
have
the.
A
Five
years,
snow
and
ice
control
analysis
is
expected
to
be
completed
by
the
end
of
this
year.
Efficiencies
identified
in
the
report
will
go
into
effect
during
the
upcoming
snow
season.
The
2012
london
olympics
may
be
over,
but
Boulder
got
to
relive
some
of
the
excitement
this
week
with
a
visit
from
Olympic
gymnast
John
Orozco
Orozco
competed
on
the
US
men's
Olympic
team
this
year
and
is
also
the
2012
visa
national
gymnastics
champion.
He
stopped
by
North
Boulder
rec
center
on
Wednesday
to
talk
about
his
career
and
experience
competing
in
the
Olympics.
J
Have
a
huge
we
have
about
1200
kids
from
two
and
a
half
years
old
to
18,
and
we
have
a
boys
team
and
a
girls
team.
We
do
birthday
parties
open
gym,
it's
huge
program,
beginners
through
advanced
level,
just
it's
really
great
for
them
to
see
someone
who's
gotten
to
where
their
dreams
are
because
he
started
where
they
did
just
came
into
the
gym
and
tried
it
out
and
he's
made
it
all
the
way
to
the
Olympics.
So
it
just
kind
of
gives
them
a
taste
of
what's
possible.
If.
K
Your
goals
and
dreams
me
that
much
to
you,
you
can
be
a
little
more
dedicated
and
make
sure
that
you'll
do
anything
you
can
to
make
it
happen.
The
kids
just
getting
started
I
would
say
just
to
remember
why
you're
doing
it,
you
know,
remember
to
have
fun
all
the
time,
because
you
don't
want
to
you.
Don't
want,
invest
your
life
in
a
sport
that
you
don't
love
so
make
sure
you
know
you're
always
having
fun,
make
sure
you're
you're,
having
a
good
time
when
you're
in
the
gym,
roscoes.
