A
This
week,
east
boulder
community
park
completes
improvements
in
time
for
fall.
Sports.
The
community
learns
of
possible,
affordable
housing
recommendations
and
the
city
of
Boulder
completes
its
review
of
medical
marijuana
business
license
applications,
hi,
I'm,
Natalie
Wood.
It's
been
three
years
in
the
making,
but
east
boulder
community
park
has
finished
its
major
improvements
and
is
open
for
play.
A
Here's
more
on
the
renovations
of
one
of
boulders
favorite
parks
for
runners,
soccer
players
and
dog
lovers
as
the
hot
days
of
summer
are
starting
to
wind
down,
fall
sports
and
activities
are
just
heating
up
and
east
boulder
has
a
newly
improved
community
park
to
play
in
three
years.
Worth
of
improvements
recently
came
to
completion
from
the
new
synthetic
turf
field
to
the
renovation
of
the
dog
park.
East
boulder
community
park
is
attracting
lots
of
users.

Don't
wear
out
so
fast
as
natural
grass
turf,
less
water.
You
don't
have
to
fertilize
it.
You
don't
have
to
use
herbicides
for
weed.
You
don't
have
to
come
out
and
we'd,
it
so
maintenance
wise.
It's
a
lot
better
of
a
field
playability
wise,
it's
grass
blades
and
it's
infield
with
a
rubber
and
sand
mix.
So
we
can
play
a
lot
of
schedule,
a
lot
of
events
and
gain
time
on
these
fields
without
wearing
them
out
the.

wonderful
Park
we're
excited
to
have
this
open,
we're
excited
to
see
people
come
out
and
use
it
now,
as
the
cooler
weather
hits
too
will
start
to
see
more
people
coming
out
and
playing,
and
it's
a
good
part
to
come
and
just
either
walk
or
play
on
the
fields
use
the
tennis
courts
handball
courts.
The
dog
off
leash
is
a
good
place
to
come
and
hang
out
another.
A
Improvement
to
the
park
that
has
met
rave
reviews
is
the
resurfacing
and
lighting
of
its
five
tennis
courts.
Tennis
players
can
now
extend
their
playtime
well
past
daylight
hours
as
the
course
are
open
until
10pm
it's
been
a
busy
summer
for
the
Parks
and
Recreation
Department
valmont
bike
park.
Another
one
of
the
community's
newest
hot
spots
has
been
the
place
to
go.
A
Writing
since
its
grand
opening
in
June
and
last
weekend,
mountain
bikers,
who
have
been
writing
at
the
park
all
summer
had
their
first
chance
to
race
there,
the
city
of
Boulder
partnered,
with
boulder
mountain
bike
Alliance
to
create
the
boulder
mountain
bike
festival
as
an
annual
fundraiser
for
the
park.
The
day
of
racing
bike
games
and
big
air
was
just
the
first
of
many
upcoming
events
at
the
park.
We're.
B
Putting
together
a
program
right
now
for
folks
who
would
like
to
come
out
and
learn
how
to
ride
and
do
all
the
fun
things
that
are
related
to
the
different
type
of
cycling
out
here
we
have
three
special
events:
they're
going
to
occur
in
august/september
in
October,
and
you
can
find
out
that
information
on
our
website.
Those
are
all
sanctioned
events
and
they're
put
through
the
city
of
Boulder
provider
that
we've
selected
some
great
information
on
the
website
about
that,
and
I'd
encourage
again
folks
to
check
out
our
website
about
that
cyclist.
A
Should
be
sure
to
check
out
opportunities
to
rip
with
lee
mccormick
and
to
race
valmont
cycle
across
terrain
later
this
month,
the
city
of
Boulder
has
long
been
committed
to
the
value
of
affordable
housing,
and
this
week
members
of
a
task
force
that
has
been
studying
the
issue
gave
the
community
its
first
look
at
some
possible
recommendations.
The
group
held
an
open
house
on
August
30th
to
gather
public
input
before
it
makes
a
more
formal
presentation
to
City
Council
next
month.
A
The
task
force
is
planning
to
make
a
variety
of
recommendations
that
are
aimed
at
strengthening
the
city's
current
approaches
while
addressing
this
populations
changing
needs.
One
of
the
key
findings
is
that
the
city
should
reaffirm
its
commitment
to
making
ten
percent
of
the
city's
housing
stock
permanently
affordable
to
low
and
moderate
income
households.
This
goal
was
set
in
2000.
The
city
is
currently
sick,
seven
percent
of
its
way
to
reaching
this
goal.
A
Other
recommendations
include
the
consideration
of
additional
funding
sources,
including
the
possibility
of
new
taxes,
analyzing
the
cost
of
providing
affordable
home
ownership
versus
rental
housing
opportunities,
addressing
rising
HOA
fees,
working
on
a
mobile
home
park
plan.
In
2012
and
commissioning
a
needs
assessment
for
senior
housing,
the
task
force
will
appear
before
City
Council
on
September
20th.
It's
completed
report,
which
will
take
into
account
the
community
feedback
received
at
the
open
house,
is
expected
to
be
posted
at
the
city's
webpage.
A
No
later
than
September
16th,
the
city
of
Boulder
has
completed
its
review
of
the
120
medical
marijuana.
Business
license
applications
received
since
last
summer.
So
far,
48
licenses
have
been
issued.
30
additional
licenses
are
expected
if
owners
make
required
changes
that
are
expected
to
bring
them
into
full
compliance.
Meanwhile,
nine
businesses
withdrew
their
applications
and
33
were
denied
of
those
that
were
denied.
22
are
awaiting
Appeals
hearings.
A
Businesses
with
pending
appeals
are
permitted
to
stay
open
until
they're
hearing
results
are
known,
but
to
prevent
potential
continued
unsafe
operation
and
to
encourage
equal
treatment
of
all
businesses.
The
city
of
Boulder
has
started
inspecting
medical
marijuana.
Businesses
that
are
awaiting
Appeals
hearings.
Violations
that
pose
an
immediate
health
or
safety
risk
must
be
fixed
immediately
if
other
types
of
violations
are
found,
the
businesses
will
have
30
days
to
correct
them.
Otherwise,
the
inspection
findings
will
become
additional
grounds
for
denial
of
the
pending
license
application.
