A
If
the
broadway
euclid
intersection
is
on
your
normal
route,
you
might
want
to
consider
taking
a
different
path:
the
broadway
euclid
to
18
transportation
improvements
project
has
begun
construction
last
wednesday
and
it's
bringing
about
major
improvements
to
the
heavily
used
corridor.
Natalie
wood
has
more
on
the
project.
B
C
Locals
the
people
that
are
used
to
coming
into
boulder
for
work
and
have
some
familiarity
with
this
corridor
of
broadway
know
how
big
of
how
big
of
a
mess
and
how
much
chaos
there
really
is
here
today,
and
a
lot
of
that
is
driven
by
the
pedestrians
that
are
crossing
broadway.
B
Every
time
pedestrians
push
this
button
at
broadway
in
euclid,
the
traffic
light
is
triggered
to
turn
red
with
the
high
volume
of
students
crossing
this
intersection.
Every
day.
That
amounts
to
a
lot
of
stops.
Those
surmounting
stops
moved
to
the
city
to
make
some
major
improvements.
A
pedestrian
underpass
is
being
built
under
broadway,
where
bikes,
transit
users
and
pedestrians
will
be
able
to
cross
to
and
from
campus
existing
transit
stops
will
also
be
relocated
to
save
daily
commuters
time
and
headaches.
C
After
the
project
is
completed,
then
all
of
the
pedestrians
will
be
going
underground
and
the
interruption
and
the
time
taken
by
those
pedestrians
to
cross
broadway
will
have
been
eliminated
at
that
point,
and
so
it
really
will
free
up
the
works
for
the
vehicular
driver,
the
multi-use
path,
that's
paralleling,
broadway,
we'll
have
a
lot
of
conflicts
removed
with
those
crossing.
Pedestrians
fell.
A
Pedestrians
and
cyclists
included
entering
a
crosswalk
and
making
it
a
requirement
to
use
the
warning
traffic
control
devices
like
the
flashing
signs
at
crosswalks
council
passed.
The
proposed
code
changes
on
a
first
reading
second
reading
and
a
public
hearing
is
scheduled
for
december
6.
in
a
city
like
boulder
transportation
operations.
Engineer
bill
cowan
says
it's
very
important
to
study
crosswalk
safety.
D
The
city
of
boulder
has
a
much
higher
mode
share
percentage,
a
much
higher
number
of
trips
per
you
know
of
bicycle
trips
per
trip
being
made
than
any
other
community
in
the
front
range
by
a
sizeable
margin.
As
a
result,
we
have
to
look
at
the
interactions
between
bikes
and
cars
much
more
and
much
differently
than
any
other
community.
Does
the
purpose
of
these
code
changes
is
to
make
crosswalks
as
safe
and
efficient
as
possible
so
that
we
continue
to
encourage
all
modes
of
transportation.
A
It's
no
surprise
that
a
bike
friendly
city
like
boulder
has
a
tremendously
successful
bike
share
program,
boulder
b
cycle
launched
on
may
20th
and
already
cyclists
have
logged
over
1700
trips
equaling
around
52
000
miles,
peddled
on
b
cycles.
The
popular
program
has
added
two
new
locations
since
may.
Bringing
the
number
of
transit-focused
locations
to
15.
A
boulder
b
cycle
is
always
trying
to
improve
the
program
and
increase
ridership,
so
the
red
bikes
are
taking
a
little
break
this
winter.
For
some
system
upgrades
and
the
addition
of
a
few
more
stations,
boulder
b
cycle
is
taking
advantage
of
the
coldest
months
of
the
year
to
keep
the
equipment
safe
and
shiny
for
riders.
A
The
bike
stations
will
be
closed
from
december
16th
to
march
16th,
when
they'll
return,
in
top
shape
for
the
second
season
of
bike
sharing
in
boulder
be

the

few

Sharing
this
season,
boulder
police
are
crediting
the
heroic
efforts
of
an
off-duty
firefighter
to
saving
a
woman's
life.
Last
week
engineer,
kevin
kern
was
leaving
his
shift
at
bowler
fire
rescue
when
he
came
upon
a
vehicle.
He
thought
was
broken
down.
A
Kern
drove
around
the
vehicle
and
saw
a
person
lying
in
the
road
he
got
out
of
his
truck
to
find
a
woman
lying
face
down,
not
breathing
regularly
kern
held
the
patient
still
and
helped
her
breathe
until
the
fire
department
and
ambulance
arrived.
The
boulder
police
department
says
that
if
kern
had
not
helped
the
woman,
she
may
not
be
alive
when
commended
for
his
efforts.
Kern
said
he
does
not
feel
like
what
he
did
was
heroic.
He
feels
that
anyone
who
drove
by
the
situation
would
have
done
the
same
thing.
A
It's
