the
city
of
boulders
pilot
parklet
program,
you
have
a
new
place
to
relax
and
take
in
the
scenery
on
University
Hill.
This
summer.
Last
weekend,
the
doors
open
team
transformed
to
on-street
parking
spaces
into
a
temporary
public
gathering
space.
The
team
beat
out
32
other
designs
for
the
opportunity
to
build
boulders
first
parklet,
our.

Concept
dealt
with
the
idea
of
opportunity
in
this
city
and
how
much
opportunity
there
is,
and
the
metaphor
of
doors
coming
and
going
as
a
student
coming
in
as
a
child,
leaving
as
an
adult
coming
in
chasing
a
dream
following
a
dream,
chasing
a
job
and
how
much
opportunity
there
really
is
in
the
city
of
Boulder.
It
is
constructed,
repurposed,
recycled
doors
and
windows
from
boulders
resource
yards,
and
they
are
constructed
on
a
big
framework
anchored
by
three
large
planters
and
some
recycled
beer,
cakes.

parklet
is
located
on
the
corner
of
thirteenth
street
and
pennsylvania
avenue.
It
will
stay
up
through
the
summer
and
will
be
taken
down.
This
fall.
All
33
parklet
designs
are
on
display
at
inisfree,
poetry,
bookstore
and
cafe.
The
city
is
offering
an
exciting
new
opportunity
for
individuals,
teams
and
businesses
with
innovative
ideas
about
how
to
reduce
greenhouse
gas
emissions
in
Boulder.
The
boulder
energy
challenge
was
launched
last
week
and
is
now
accepting
applications.

Just
launched
the
website
Boulder
energy
challenge,
com
and
folks
can
go
to
that
website
to
read
the
grant
materials
application
requirements
and
they
have
about
six
weeks
to
get
an
application
in
to
us.
And
then
we
have
a
team
of
community
experts
and
city
staff
that
will
evaluate
all
the
projects
and
we'll
have
a
community
event
in
July
to
showcase
the
finalists
and
allow
the
public
to
have
some
input
into
what
projects
get
funded
and
then
we'll
announce
the
final
awards
in
early
August.
The.

Boulder
energy
challenge
will
ideally
fund
between
five
to
ten
projects,
and
all
ideas
are
welcome.
The
city
hopes
the
project
will
kick-start
more
public-private
partnerships
and
help
transform
our
energy
markets
locally,
get
started
on
your
application
at
Boulder
energy
challenge

The
city
is
asking
for
applicants
to
file
a
quick
and
easy
intent
to
apply
form
by
May
thirtieth.
The
longer
application
is
due
jun
27th.
This
Saturday
boulders
annual
kids
fishing
derby
will
call
a
new
pond
home
due
to
flood
damage.

Has
been
a
an
event
for
kids
down
at
the
kids
ponds
since
the
late
40s,
it
turned
in
to
the
kids
fishing
derby
in
the
early
70s,
and
so
ever
since
then,
we've
had
two
kids
fishing
derby.
In
the
old
days.
They
use
the
cream
cans
in
the
back
of
a
pickup
truck,
and
what
we
use
today
is
we
have
a
little
stock
trailer
and,
and
that
is
what
we
use
the
stock.

kids
spots
with
the.

not
creek
water?
This
is
spring
water,
so
the
water
temperature
doesn't
fluctuate.
We
have
little
oxygenators
making
oxygen
as
the
water
comes
in,
and
this
particular
variety
of
fish
rainbow
cutthroat
hybrids
do
very
well
in
this
environment,
though
these
guys
are
just
very
nice
peaceful
fish.
They
they
don't
mind
living
in
here
for.

Kids,
fishing
derby
will
take
place
from
seven
to
10
a.m.
there
will
be
prizes
for
catching
fish
as
well
as
special
prize
giveaways,
to
learn
more
about
the
boulder
Fish
and
Game
Club

The
fishing
derby
isn't
the
only
draw
for
families
this
holiday
weekend.
Memorial
Day
offers
lots
of
reasons
to
come
to
downtown
Boulder,
including
the
creek
fest
in
the
ever
popular
annual
duck
race.
Thousands
of
rubber
ducks
will
give
participants
the
chance
to
win
great
prizes.

Most
years
the
Ducks
are
sent
raising
down
Boulder
Creek
to
benefit
the
expand
program
which
stands
for
exciting
programs,
adventures
and
new
dimensions.
Expand
serves
hundreds
of
children,
youth
and
adults
with
disabilities
and
community
recreation
due
to
high
and
unsafe
creek
water
levels.
This
year
the
ducks
will
be
raising
money
for
expand
while
floating
inside
a
kiddie
pool
set
up
at
the
central
park
bandshell.
Unfortunately,.

year,
we're
not
going
to
be
able
to
do
the
duck
race.
The
way
we've
always
done
it,
but
they're
still
going
to
be
a
great
duck
event
happening.
So
what's
happened
is
that,
due
to
the
weather
that
we
could
have
the
unpredictability
of
the
river
this
year
with
the
flood
that
happened
in
September
and
then
also
the
flow
of
the
river
this
year
is
very
fast
and
Barker
reservoir
will
be
having
a
lot
of
water
come
down
which
will
affect
the
river
flow
as
well.
