A
To
inside
building
news
your
source
for
all
things,
Boulder
I'm,
Jocelyn,
Daniel,
International
women's
day,
was
celebrated
earlier
this
week,
but
here
on
inside
Boulder
news
we're
celebrating
all
month,
bringing
you
the
stories
of
women
who
made
an
impact
to
Boulder's
history.
This
week
join
us
as
we
learn
about
Florence,
Malloy
and
Mabel
mclay.
B
Lawrence
Malloy
and
Mabel
Maclay
were
friends.
They
had
met
in
Syracuse,
New,
York
Malloy
grew
up
there,
the
women
socialized
together
and
at
some
point
they
actually
started
running
a
farm
together,
but
in
1917
they
came
out
to
Boulder
together
the
two
women
with
their
three
young
children
Malloy,
had
inherited
some
money
from
after
father's
death,
which
was
the
equivalent
of
265
thousand
dollars
today.
So
it
was
a
you
know,
a
pretty
good
chunk.
B
They
bought
the
squires
trotello
house,
which
is
still
in
Boulder
I,
believe
it's
the
oldest
remaining
home
in
Boulder
sometime
during
the
during
World
War
One.
They
started
a
taxi
service
and
there's
different
stories
about
how
this
got
going.
One
was
that
the
only
remaining
taxicab
driver
in
Boulder
who
hadn't
yet
gone
to
off
to
War
was
called
up
and
he
asked
them
to
continue.
B
You
know
providing
taxis
and
another
story
is
that
they
were
driving
for
the
Red
Cross
and
then
decided
to
continue
after
the
war
they
had
what
was
called
an
auto
Livery
out
of
the
Boulderado
hotel,
which
was
a
very
high
class
hotel.
At
the
time
they
eventually
got
an
exclusive
contract
with
the
Union
Pacific
Railroad,
to
pick
up
passengers
at
the
railroad
station,
which
was
on
Canyon.
It
was
called
Water
Street
at
the
time.
This
made
some
other
male
taxi
drivers
very,
very
unhappy,
and
so
they
got
it.
B
The
the
men
got
an
ordinance
passed
that
said
that
nobody
could
have
an
exclusive
right
to
picking
up
anyone.
At
the
at
the
platform,
the
the
men
took
the
women
to
court
and
said
that
they,
you
know
they
were
breaking
the
ordinance
and
even
though
the
station
manager
testified
for
Eminem,
they
they
still
lost
the
case,
and
they
decided
then
to
discontinue
the
taxi
part
of
their
business
and
just
go
on
as
a
touring
company.
B
After
they
sold
the
taxi
business,
they
bought
some
property
up
in
Gold
Hill
and
they
ran
a
ranch
up
there,
a
tourist
Ranch
for
the
bluebirds,
but
also
for
others
who
wanted
to
come
up
to
Gold,
Hill
and
just
be
in
the
mountains
and
ride
horses.
So
they
had
a
stable.
They
definitely
expanded
the
ideas
of
what
women
could
do
I.
They
were
part
of
what
you
know.
A
Applications
are
now
being
accepted
for
Board
of
Trustees
positions
for
the
new
Boulder
Public
Library
District,
which
is
approved
by
voters
in
November
of
last
year.
The
district
includes
residents
of
the
city
of
Boulder
and
portions
of
Incorporated
Boulder
County.
The
selection
committee
for
the
Boulder
Public
Library
District
initial
Board
of
Trustees,
is
looking
for
applicants
with
a
strong
background
in
the
services
provided
by
the
Boulder
Public
Library.
This
is
a
new
and
important
opportunity
to
shape
the
direction
of
this
new
form
of
Library
governance
and
funding.
A
Trustees
are
committee
members
who
live
in
the
library
district,
legal
service
area
who
are
appointed
to
serve
and
govern
the
library
district.
Once
a
Board
of
Trustees
is
established,
it
will
develop
bylaws
and
governing
documents
for
the
district.
The
application
deadline
is
5
PM
on
Wednesday,
March,
29
2023,
for
more
information
and
to
apply
visit.
The
County's
website,
the
Polar
Plunge
fundraising
event
has
been
held
at
the
boulder
reservoir
for
over
seven
years
and
those
braving
the
cold
waters
are
freezing
for
a
reason.
A
Dozens
will
jump
into
freezing
Waters
to
make
a
difference
in
the
lives
of
Colorado's
special
Olympic
athletes.
The
money
collected
will
go
to
Colorado's
Special
Olympics,
as
well
as
Boulders,
Parks
and
Recreation
expand
program
with
past
fundraisers.
The
expand
program
has
been
able
to
buy
ski
helmets
and
other
equipment
for
their
athletes.
Our.
C
Fundraising
goal
this
year
is
ten
thousand
dollars
and
we
are
already
at
twelve
thousand
dollars
so
done
an
amazing
job,
and
this
money
has
gone
to
support
our
special
Olympic
ski
team
so
that
they
have
access
to
train
at
the
ski
mountains.
It
has
allowed
us
to
bring
back
our
track
and
field
program
so
that
we
can
rent
track
space
to
practice.
C
It
has
allowed
us
to
bring
back
our
bowling
program
so
that
we,
you
know,
can
rent
space
in
the
bowling
alley
and
most
fun.
It
has
sponsored
our
expand
family
reunion,
which
is
basically
a
big
party
where
we
have
volunteers,
participants,
passed
interns,
past
staff
all
get
together,
we'd
get
the
Sweet
Cow
truck
and
we
just
kind
of
get
time
to
spend
together
on-site.
A
Registration
