A
Welcome
to
inside
Boulder
news
I'm
Ashley
pearl
this
week,
members
of
the
business
community
came
together
to
get
a
glimpse
at
what's
in
store
for
the
economy
in
2015,
the
annual
economic
forecast,
Boulder
and
Beyond
presentation
highlighted
what's
happening
this
year
for
Boulder
the
state
and
the
US
economy's,
and
also
addressed
long-term
fiscal
challenges.
Colorado
will
face
we're.
B
Very
optimistic
about
the
national
economy,
though
the
hiring
is
picked
up
to
very
positive
levels
over
the
last
several
months,
in
particular
the
last
four
or
five
months,
and
we
see
that
continuing
in
throughout
2015
and
GDP
growth
up
into
three
percent
range.
So
it's
a
very
solid
number,
and
especially
in
light
of
what's
going
on
in
the
rest
of
the
world,
where
we
see
sub
par
growth
rates
in
places
like
Europe
and
Japan.
The
u.s.
is
really
this
shining
star
in
terms
of
the
overall
economy.
B
A
B
Of
the
concerns
is,
we
have
very
little
space
in
terms
of
commercial
and
industrial
space
for
businesses,
but
we
also
have
very
low
vacancy
rates
terms
of
rental
properties
and
housing.
Prices
have
been
growing
at
a
very
rapid
rate,
so
we're
seeing
costs
associated
with
all
of
this
prosperity.
Well,.
A
C
Have
a
stone
that
was
developed,
a
tax
system
and
a
governmental
system
that
was
developed
about
50
and
75
years
ago,
and
our
economies
changed.
Our
demographics
are
changing
we're
going
to
have
far
more
senior
citizens
in
our
economy
than
we
did
50
years
ago
when
this
system
was
created,
and
that
puts
new
pressures
on
our
state.
So
it
puts
pressures
to
fund
programs
like
Medicaid.
C
It
also
puts
pressures
on
our
revenue
system,
because
older
folks
behave
in
different
ways
with
respect
to
their
consumption
than
they
did
when
they
were
in
their
prime
earnings
years,
we're
starting
to
see
different
behaviors
among
the
younger
generation,
perhaps
by
preference,
perhaps
because
they
matured
into
the
economy.
At
a
time
when
you
know
the
economy,
wasn't
so
strong
for
them,
and
all
of
those
implicate
or
all
of
those
phenomena
have
implications
for
the
way
we
generate
public
revenues
and
the
programs
that
we
spend
them
on.

If
you
like
to
stay
informed
on
the
conversation
surrounding
development
and
planning
in
Boulder,
the
city
has
recently
created
some
new
ways
to
access
information.
A
Now
that
the
holidays
are
over,
the
Pearl
Street
Mall
decorations
have
been
replaced
with
brand
new
lamp
pole,
banners
created
by
budding
local
artists.
The
theme
of
the
banners
is
local
foods
and
farmers
and
students
used
everything
from
collages,
watercolor
and
digital
art
to
create
their
masterpieces.
Every.
D
Year
we
get
a
fresh
batch
of
young
artists,
and
this
year
we
have
artists
from
Columbine
elementary
KC
middle
school
in
Boulder,
High,
School,
and
so
all
the
way
from
1st
grade
up
to
seniors
in
high
school
and
the
variety
and
the
creativity.
These
kids
is
just
amazing.
It's
really
fun.
Now
every
every
single
banner
is
different,
so
we
have
53
different
banners
on
the
mall,
so
it's
just
great
to
see
the
variety
and
how
different
kids
expressed
their
appreciation
for
local.

Speaking
of
budding
artists,
open

recently
concluded
its
annual
photography
contest.
A
E
Got
a
lot
of
great
entries
from
the
kids
that
was
pretty
cool.
One
of
the
kids
actually
got
the
people's
choice
award
this
year.
We
use
them
for
our
website.
We
have
a
little
scrapbook
that
we
put
them
in,
so
people
can
look
at
them
all
year
round.
We
if
we
have
like
a
program
that
needs
a
picture
of
say,
like
a
badger
that
somebody
took
a
shot
of.
E
We
can
use
that
picture
too
if
we're
doing
a
brochure
on
like
rock
climbing,
if
somebody
got
a
good
shot
of
that,
will
use
it
in
that
I
love.
Looking
at
all
the
different
pictures
and
the
way
people
do
it
present
them
yeah.
It's
neat
and
it's
actually
a
great
way
to
get
the
staff
involved
too,
because
they're
out
there
all
the
time
and
they
can
take
some
pictures
and
they
see
things
that
a
lot
of
people
don't
see
it
because
they're
out
there
all
of
it
all
the
time.
