Boulder.
Arts
week
is
back
for
its
10th
year.
It
is
Boulder's
only
large-scale
inclusive
celebration
of
our
communities,
artist
and
arts
and
culture
offerings,
and
many
of
them
are
free
or
low
cost.
B
We
have
over
a
hundred
different
events
that
we
are
promoting,
that
our
local
community
is
presenting.
We
have
a
whole
variety
of
events
from
exhibits
to
dance,
shows
to
theater,
shows
to
workshops
and
classes
to
panels.
I
mean
the
list
kind
of
goes
on
and
on,
and
it
spans
over
about
eight
days.
April
7th,
through
the
15th.
A
During
Boulder
Arts
week
you
can
check
out
fine
art,
dance
and
even
outdoor
art
experiences.
Not
only
will
you
get
to
see
some
amazing
talent,
but
you
can
also
learn
and
collaborate
with
local
artists
through
workshops,
master
classes
and
discussions.
The
perfect
opportunity
to
deepen
your
understanding
of
the
Arts
while
having
some
fun
Boulder.
B
Has
one
of
the
most
thriving
Arts
communities
in
our
country?
We
have
so
many
artists
and
we
have
so
many
people
doing
creative
things
and
the
way
that
they
keep
doing
creative
things
is
by
all
of
our
community
coming
out
and
supporting
them.
Supporting
these
events
paying
for
tickets
to
support
these
events,
supporting
them
supporting
artists
to
keep
them
in
our
Boulder
Community.
So.

However,
the
recognized
day
serves
as
an
effort
to
recognize
and
honor
their
service
this
week
on
our
final
story
in
her
women's
History
Month
series
we'll
share
with
you
the
inspiring
story
of
a
woman
who
made
history
in
Boulder
County
find
out
how
clella
Rolex,
despite
facing
gender
bias,
became
the
first
County
Clerk
to
issue
a
same-sex
marriage
license
in
the
United
States
in
1975..
Here's
her
story.
D
Cleola
Rolex
was
born
in
1943
and
she
grew
up
in
Steamboat
Springs
here
in
Colorado.
She
attended
the
University
of
Colorado
in
Boulder,
and
while
there
met
her
first
husband,
who
went
on
to
become
a
Navy
officer,
clela
and
her
family
then
lived
on
different
Naval
bases
for
several
years
before
they
moved
back
to
Boulder
in
1971..
After
moving
back
to
Boulder,
she
kind
of
quickly
divorced
her
husband
and
began
attending
local
meetings
of
the
National
Organization
of
Women
and
through
that
became
a
very
committed
feminist
and
a
participant
in
the
local
women's
Liberation
movement.
D
She
was
invited
to
attend
a
local
Democratic
party
meeting
where
she
learned
that
the
county
clerk
position
was
coming
up
for
election
again
and
that
the
Republican
party
was
planning
to
run
a
female
candidate.
Because
of
that,
the
Democratic
leaders
decided
that
the
best
way
to
win
was
to
run
a
male
candidate
and
clela
was
very
upset
by
this
kind
of
blatant
sexism
and
decided
that
she
would
run
she
had
General
familiarity
with
the
position
and
again
just
her
commitment
to
having
women
in
government.
D
She
decided
to
run
in
the
1974
election
and
so
was
elected
the
county
clerk
in
1974
and
began
her
office
in
1975..
Soon
after
taking
office,
she
was
approached
by
a
female
lesbian
couple
in
Boulder
who
were
curious
as
to
whether
they
would
be
able
to
apply
for
a
marriage
license.
But
Cleveland
Rolex
had
not
really
ever
heard
of
this,
and
so
she
asked
the
local
district
attorney
whether
it
was
legal
in
Colorado.
D
He
advised
her
that
there
wasn't
any
language
in
the
law
prohibiting
licenses
being
issued
to
same-sex
couples
and
that,
ultimately,
it
was
up
to
rorix
whether
she
wanted
to
issue
those
licenses.
Rorix
decided
that,
based
on
her
stance
of
equality,
she
felt
that
she
could
not,
in
good
conscience,
discriminate
against
two
couples
of
the
same
gender
who
wanted
to
marry.
This
was
the
first
time
that
a
state
or
a
government
official
had
knowingly
issued
a
license
to
a
same-sex
couple
and,
as
a
result,
there
was
a
lot
of
national
attention.
D
She
issued
five
more
licenses
to
different
same-sex
couples,
even
though
she
received
a
lot
of
homophobic
letters,
threats
of
violence,
phone
calls
to
her
house
in
the
middle
of
the
night.
She
continued
to
stick
to
her
principles
of
equality
for
all
and
continue
to
issue
those
licenses
until
these
State
Attorney
General's
office,
weighed
in
and
and
stated
that,
based
on
their
reading
of
the
law
these
licenses,
these
marriages
were
not
legal
in
Colorado.
She
felt
that
because
of
the
persuasive
authority
of
the
attorney's
general
office
that
she
needed
to
stop
it
did.
D
It
did
kick
off
a
backlash
for
several
years,
but
it
really
her
approach
to
it
really
foretold.
What
the
legal
and
moral
Arguments
for
same-sex
marriage
would
be.
When
It
ultimately
became
legal
in
the
United
States
in
2015..
Unfortunately,
she
left
the
office
early
due
to
stress
and
mental
strain
of
of
that
backlash.
D
Against
her,
she
became
a
local
Ally
for
the
lgbtq
rights
movement
and,
in
fact,
out,
Boulder
County,
which
is
a
local
lgbtq
advocacy
group
named
their
award
for
local
allies
after
Cleveland
Rolex
as
same-sex
marriage
was
starting
to
become
legal
in
different
states
around
the
country
and
in
Colorado
in
2013.
She
started
officiating
at
these
wedding
ceremonies
for
gay
and
lesbian
couples.

To
get
all
the
details,
are
you
a

an
inventor
or
an
artist?
Then
the
maker

Gallery
might
be
just
the
perfect
opportunity
for
you.
The.
A
The
maker
made
gallery
show
is
different
from
your
typical
exhibit
as
it's
all
about
interactive
and
kinetic
pieces
that
can
handle
daily
use
without
maintenance.
Submission
should
be
related
to
the
maker
movement
and
maker
media
such
as
Electronics
robotics,
woodworking,
metalworking
and
textiles
building.

A
The

will
run
from
June
