Description
This week on Inside Boulder News: EAB Tree Removals, Bike to Work Day, and Ralphie's Independence Day Blast!
A
This
week
on
inside,
bull
renews
close
to
100
trees
were
removed
this
week
due
to
the
emerald
ash.
Borer,
we'll
tell
you
what
the
city
is
planning
on
doing
next
walk
and
bike
month
is
almost
at
its
end,
but
there
are
still
events
you
can
attend
and
the
mr.

welcome

your

for
all
things:
Boulder
I'm

from

A
This
week
the
city's
Forestry
Division
worked
on
removing
emerald
ash
borer
infested
ash
trees
along
the
Boulder
Creek
path
between
the
kids
fishing
pond
at
9th
Street
and
30th
Street.
This
work
took
place
to
mitigate
safety
issues
caused
by
the
potential
for
falling
limbs
from
these
dying
trees.
We
spoke
to
Thomas
Reid
assistant
Forester,
with
the
city
of
Boulder,
to
find
out
what
the
next
steps
are.
Regarding
these
tree
removals,
it's
been
a
busy
week
for
the
city's
Forestry
Department,
who
removed
close
to
100
emerald
ash
borer,
infested
ash
trees
along
the
Boulder
Creek
path.
A
B
Part
of
town
has
a
really
high
level
of
emerald
ash,
borer
infestation,
and
so,
as
you
look
at
the
decline
of
ash
trees
around
town,
this
area
is
is
probably
the
most
pronounced.
A
lot
of
these
trees
are
already
dead
or
becoming
hazardous,
and
because
it's
such
a
highly
used
part
of
town
in
the
name
of
Public
Safety,
we
need
to
keep
up
with
the
removals
more.
C
You
can
imagine
if
we're
gonna
lose
something
like
a
quarter
of
the
trees
in
our
urban
canopy.
That's
going
to
be
losing
a
lot
of
shade.
That's
going
to
mean
that
our
star,
our
heat
in
the
in
the
community,
is
likely
to
increase
even
more
because
of
the
the
rising
heat
in
our
that
related
to
climate
change.
The.
A
B
Reality
is
that
we
think
that
there's
something
like
60
to
70
thousand
in
this
town
and
a
very
small
percentage
of
those
are
actually
on
public
property.
The
vast
majority
you're
actually
on
private
property,
and
so
we
do
need
homeowners
to
take
inventory
of
what
trees
they
have
on
their
property.

In
April
of
this
year,
the
city
of
Boulder
became
certified
as
a
service
enterprise
by
points
of
light,
the
world's
largest
organization
dedicated
to
volunteer
service.
This
makes
Boulder
the
first
municipality
in
the
state
to
have
this
prestigious
certification
and
is
one
of
two
municipalities
in
the
nation.

How
we
internally
work
with
volunteers
and
that
it's
not
that
this
department
does
it
one
way
this
department?
Does
it
another
way
and
this
department
does
another
way?
It's
so
community
members
who
volunteer
with
us
understand
when
they're
working
with
us
that
they're
working
on
behalf
of
the
city
organization
and
on
behalf
of
the
community
as
a
whole.

25

and
we
know
that,
because
we

We
are
all
estatic
about
that
success,
because
this
is
someone
who
has
had
you

literally
thousands
of
stays
at
the

And
finally,
we've
been
able
to
find
the
right
combination
of
housing.
