Description
This week on Inside Boulder News: Boulder County residents can now text 911 for help in emergencies; the Republican presidential candidate debate takes place at CU; and Boulder Reads benefits from a family friendly Halloween party.
A
A
B
Seems
to
text
now
instead
of
voice,
we
have
a
press
release
now
that's
out
there,
which
is
very
important
to
where
we
say
that
you
call
if
you
can
and
text,
if
you
must,
even
though
texting
is
available,
it
is
there's
definitely
a
delay
involved
in
it.
Regards
to
just
you
know,
a
voice
is
a
lot
quicker,
a
lot
easier
texting
a
lot
of
times,
just
there's
a
little
bit
at
Adelaide
to
it,
we're
mainly
looking
for
people
to
use
text
only
when
they
must
to
those
situations
where
they
cannot
talk.
B
Maybe
it
might
be
a
domestic
type
of
situation
where
they
don't
want
the
other
person
to
know
that
they're
actually
communicating
with
the
police
department.
Those
situations
like
that.
The
other
thing
too,
is
it's
very
good
for
the
hearing
and
speech
impaired
folks.
They
now
can
text
to
us
directly
instead
of
having
to
go
through
a
third
party
vendor,
you
know,
so
it's
a
lot
quicker
and
easier
for
them
as
well.
At.
A
B
911
service
is
very
important,
our
community,
because
that
is
our
direct
link
to
the
citizens
to
where
they
can
contact
us
in
regards
to
any
situation
that
they
have
most
times
when
they
call
911
it's
the
worst
day
of
the
year,
and
so
we're
there
to
try
to
ascertain
what
the
issue
is.
What
their
address
is
and
get
the
first
responders
out
there
as
quickly
as
we
can
text
to
911
is
just
another
resource
that
we
can
use
to
help
out
our
citizens
again.
A
It's
important
to
remember
call
if
you
can
text.
If
you
must,
if
you
don't,
have
an
emergency
but
still
need
to
talk
to
the
police
department,
you
can
call
the
non-emergency
number
at
30
3
4,
4,
1
3333
rats
certainly
aren't
new
to
boulder,
but
recently
reports
about
them
have
priests
in
the
city.
Rats
aren't
a
native
species
to
the
United
States.
They
can
cause
structural
damage
to
buildings
and
they're.
Also,
carriers
of
disease
they're.
C
Usually
active
at
night
and
if
you
are
seeing
them
during
the
day
during
daylight
hours,
that's
an
indication
that
the
populations
are
high
in
that
area
and
they
don't
travel
far.
So
if
you're,
seeing
a
rat
during
the
day,
its
nest
or
home
is
close
to
where
you
are
so
that's
the
point
where
we're.
If
it's
on
private
property
you
need
to
investigate.
Where
is
the
nest
you
know?
Where
is
this
animal
living
and
what
are
its
food,
water
and
shelter
and
getting
rid
of
those
things?
If.
D
At
the
city,
we
really
try
to
dissuade
people
from
using
poison,
baits
or
poisons
for
a
number
of
reasons.
One
is
that
the
poisons
themselves
can
be
ingested
by
kids
pets,
other
wildlife
that
you're
not
targeting,
and
they
can
they
can
be
poisoned
directly.
Just
from
that,
the
other
problem
is
the
majority
of
the
rodenticides
out
there.
The
the
products
that
are
used
to
kill
rat
take
a
while
to
kill
the
rat,
and
so
the
rat
may
die
away
from
where
the
bait
is.
D
D
And
then
another
issue
is
that
when
the
rats
are
sick
and
poison,
they're
easier
to
be
preyed
upon
by
your
pet
dog
by
a
fox
or
some
other
wildlife,
and
then
they
can
get
what's
called
a
secondary
poisoning
where
they
eat
the
poisoned
rat
and
then
they're
too
poisoned,
and
so
there's
a
lot
of
concerns
with
using
poisons.
So
what
we
really
suggest
is
that
people
just
use
old-fashioned
rat
traps
on
our
website.
We
have
detailed
information
on
how
best
to
do.
D
C
Of
people
think
they
can
live,
trap
them
and
just
move
them
somewhere
else,
but
that's
really
not
appropriate
for
one.
It's
not
legal
to
to
relocate
rats
on
to
a
park
or
open
space
for
a
variety
of
reasons,
but
the
the
core
reason
is
retro.
Our
problem
where
they
are
and
moving
them
to
another
place,
will
create
a
problem
there,
they're
very
prolific
and
they
can't
be
transferred
to
other
places.
One.
A
C
Example,
when
we
talk
about
rat
prevention,
we're
really
talking
about
some
of
the
same
things
we
talk
about
when
we
want
to
reduce
conflicts
with
native
wildlife,
so
things
we
don't
think
about
these
unintentional
feeding.
So
you
may
have
pet
food
on
the
back
porch
or
a
chicken
coop
with
a
feeder
in
it,
where
the
intent
might
be
to
feed
something
else,
but
it's
making
food
available
for
rats
or
raccoons
or
barrack
or
coyote.

rats,
Republican
presidential
candidates
will
take
the
stage
at
see
you
on
Wednesday
October
28
for
two
separate
debates
that
will
be
shown
on
CNBC.
The
first
debate
will
begin
at
four
o'clock
at
the
Coors
Events
Center,
and
the
primetime
debate
will
be
at
six.
Despite
the
widespread
reach
of
the
debate,
local
traffic
impacts
are
expected
to
be
manageable.
The.
E
Crowd
size
itself
will
not
be
larger
than
what
we
expect
for
a
basketball
game
so
on
a
typical
basketball
game.
If
it's
a
sellout
it's
about
11,000
people,
so
we
will
only
have
about
a
thousand
plus
attendees
around
500
media.
So
it's
not
so
much
the
number
of
vehicles.
Necessarily
it's
really
more.
Some
of
the
road
closures,
so
the
only
road
closure
on
campus
will
be
a
regent,
dr,
where
we
will
not
have
through
traffic
going
there.
E
So
if
that's
normally
a
a
thoroughfare
for
you
to
get
around
town,
that
will
be
closed
from
noon
Tuesday
to
noon
Thursday.
So
it's
really
more
of
the
Wednesday
afternoon
just
having
a
few
more
vehicles,
but
we
won't
necessarily
see
the
kind
of
impact
you
would
say
for
a
basketball
game
or
football
game.
The.
A
E
That
will
start
to
pick
up
really
in
the
highway
36
Colorado
Boulevard
area.
So
if
you
can
avoid
that
area,
especially
when
you're
going
home
that
day,
that
would
be
advisable.
If
you
can
leave
work
a
little
earlier
that
day
might
also
be
advisable.
There
are
also.
We
also
expect
some
protest
activity
in
the
area,
so
pedestrian
traffic
will
be
increased
there
as
well,
starting.
A
E
That
are
setting
up
the
stage:
CNBC's
crew,
the
candidates,
the
campaign's.
This
will
produce
a
fair
amount
of
revenue
for
the
hotels,
restaurants
and
others
that
are
in
the
hospitality
business
for
Boulder.
So
we
really
see
this
as
a
not
only
a
great
opportunity
for
see
you,
but
also
for
the
city
and
that's
just
for
the
next
few
days,
but
for
those
who
are
watching
at
home,
the
20
million,
or
so
they
may
see.
Pictures
of
the
Flatiron
see
pictures
of
our
campus
and
say
wow,
that's
a
beautiful
place.
E
A
F
This
is
a
perfect
event
for
the
little
kids
in
town
from
as
little
as
toddlers
in
there
walking
to
as
old
as
9
and
10
years
old.
If
you've
got
some
siblings,
the
girls
will
open
up
their
dorm
rooms
and
they
can
go
trick
or
treat
inside
the
little
hallways
and
the
girls
just
open
up
the
doors,
and
so
it's
warm
safe,
they're
inside
daylight.
They
have
their
huge
dining
room
and
each
dining
room
table
is
set
up
with
a
different
craft
and
those
girls.
F
The
Kappa
actives
will
sit
down
and
actually
make
ghosts
or
different
crafts
with
them
color
different
Halloween
pages,
and
then
their
living
area
is
set
up
with
different
games.
Beanbag
toss,
maybe
some
face
painting
and
these
sorority
girls
at
sea.
You
just
embrace
these
little
kids,
and
so
it's
like
I,
said
it's
inside.
It's
warm,
the
girls
are
friendly
to
them
and
it's
it's
safe
and
not
scary.
