Description
This week on Inside Boulder News: Colorado's next reopening phase, What Works Cities certification, and Avoiding Mosquitoes
A
This
week
on
inside
boulder
news,
new
guidance
was
released
this
week
regarding
colorado's
next
reopening
phase
see
where
boulder
county
stands.
Boulder
becomes
the
first
city
in
the
state
to
receive
this
important
certification,
and
it's
mosquito
season
learn
what
you
can
do
to
avoid
these
pesky
insects.
A
B
You
know
it's
not
going
to
be
here
forever
we're
going
to
be
able
to
get
through
this.
There
is
hope
at
some
point.
We
will
have
a
vaccine
that
will
be
available
and
things
will
be
a
little
different
than
they
are
now,
but
until
we
get
there,
we
all
have
to
continue
to
really
work
together
and
we
can.
We
can
control
this
virus.
If
we,
if
we're
diligent
about
it,.
A
Zayek
shared
that
the
five-day
average
of
new
coven-19
cases
in
the
county
continues
to
trend
downward
almost
matching
late
may's
numbers.
However,
we
are
still
well
above
our
five-day
averages
from
early
june.
In
order
for
boulder
county
to
move
to
colorado's,
protect
or
neighbors
phase,
transmission
rates
will
need
to
continue
to
drop.
Earlier.
This
week
the
colorado
department
of
public
health
and
environment
released
a
guided
application
form
to
allow
local
communities
to
apply
for
protect
or
neighbor
certification.
A
Communities
can
only
apply
if
they
meet
certain
guidelines,
including
declining
cases
have
mitigation
and
containment
plans
regarding
compliance,
which
must
be
approved
by
law
enforcement,
elected
officials
and
local
health
experts.
Most
counties,
however,
will
not
yet
be
eligible
to
apply
for
protect
our
neighbors
due
to
the
increase
in
cases
throughout
the
state.

all

locations
remain
closed

boulder's

and
now
the
meadows

are
available
for
outdoor
book
returns,
as
well
as

by
appointment.
A
If
you
have
items
that
are
due,
you
can
return
them
to
either
the
main
library
or
the
metals
branch
library.
Please
do
not
return
items
to
the
other
locations
as
they
are
able
to
accept
returns
until
further
notice.
Returned
items
will
be
quarantined
for
72
hours
before
they
are
checked

The

continues
to

many
of
their
services
online
to

as

mosquitos,

no
escaping
from
them.
This
time
of
year,
the
last
few
summers
have
seen
a
record
number
of
mosquitoes.
Throughout
the
area
we
spoke
with
rella
abernathy,
the
city's
integrated
pest
management
coordinator
to
find
out
what
we
can
do
to
help
bring
mosquito
numbers
down.
A
A
D
There's
really
different
aspects
to
the
study.
It's
important
that
we
monitor
the
adults
for
west
nile
virus.
So
we
can
there's
a
human
health
aspect
to
the
studies,
so
we're
trying
to
monitor
those
to
make
sure
that
there's
not
a
lot
of
west
nile
virus
and
if
there
is,
we
want
to
know
what
areas
it's
occurring
in.
A
Boulder
county
public
health
began
testing
mosquito
samples
for
west
nile
virus
at
the
beginning
of
this
month.
At
the
time
of
this,
recording
the
city
of
boulder
has
received
no
notification
for
any
positive
results.
A
recent
study
suggests
that
one
of
the
main
reasons
for
the
increase
in
mosquito
populations
or
a
change
in
land
use
patterns
and
pesticide
impacts
to
the
environment,
the
more.
A
D
A
So
what
can
you
do
in
your
own
home
to
help
bring
down
mosquito
populations?
Experts
recommend,
keeping
your
gutters
clean
and
reducing
any
standing
water
that
may
be
around
your
home
to
keep
mosquitoes
from
breeding

tips
and
information

the
website.
Seen
on

the
city
of
boulder
is
now
one

16
cities
across
the
nation
and
first
in
colorado,
to
be
recognized
for
using
data
to
effectively
respond
to
challenges.
A
It
was
announced
this
week
that
the
city
has
received
this
year's.
What
works?
Cities,
silver
level
certification,
the
certification
launched
by
bloomberg's
philanthropies,

how
effectively
cities
are
managed
by
measuring
the
extent
to
which
city
leaders
incorporate
data
and
evidence
in
their
decision-making
against
a
national
standard
of
excellence.
Some
of
boulder's
use
of
data
that
helped
the
city
achieve
the
certification
include
the
city's
open
data
catalog,
which
has
been
expanded
to
include
over
100
data,
