A
Well,
there's
top
stories.
This
week
a
new
community
receives
a
national
award
for
its
green
standards.
The
city
helps
fund
an
early
childhood
education,
collaborative
and
Boulder.
Read,
celebrates
25
years
of
helping
people
learn
an
important
life
skill,
hi
I'm,
Natalie
Wood
as
new
homes
and
communities
continue
to
develop
in
Boulder.
The
city
works
to
ensure
that
the
new
construction
meets
energy
efficiency
and
affordability
standards.
A
Toby's
lane
a
recently
completed
community
by
thistle
communities
on
arapahoe
and
55th
has
surpassed
these
expectations
and
even
caught
the
attention
of
the
United
States
Green
Building
Council,
here's
more
on
the
success
of
one
of
boulders,
newest,
sustainable
and
mixed
income
communities.
It's
just
one
Street,
but
it
has
lots
of
character
from
kids
playing
in
their
front
lawns
to
running
around
in
the
community
park.
The
homeowners
on
Toby's
Lane
have
become
the
type
of
neighbors
that
share
more
than
just
a
street.
It's.
A
Families
here
Toby's
lane
finished
construction
in
March
of
this
year.
It's
eight
homes
were
designed
with
energy
efficiency
and
sustainability
in
mind,
and
the
United
States
Green
Building
Council
took
notice.
The
project
received
LEED
Gold
certification
for
its
green
standards,
along
with
the
solar
orientation
and
precise
shading
of
the
houses.
Mcgrady
says
the
modular
construction
of
Toby's
Lane
played
a
part
in
its
green
certification.
The.
B
B
It
a
lot
of
construction,
boulders
infill,
so
there's
already
existing
people
around
it,
and
so
it's
important
to
kind
of
minimize
your
impact
on
those
people
so
because
the
Foundation's
can
go
in
at
the
same
time
as
the
house
is
being
built
in
the
factory
that
that
effect,
minimizes
the
construction
zone
and
then
the
construction
waste.
Because
it's
in
an
inside
environment,
you
can
manage
your
materials
and
your
waste
a
lot
better.
A
Designing
homes
to
be
energy-efficient
also
makes
owning
them
more
affordable,
although
you
wouldn't
know
it
from
looking
at
toby's,
Lane,
five
of
the
homes
are
permanently
affordable.
The
mix
of
market
rate
and
affordable
homes
is
a
requirement
throughout
the
city
of
Boulder
and
maccreedy,
says
Toby's.
Lane
is
a
shining
example
of
a
successful
mixed
income
community.
All
communities.
B
In
Boulder
really
are
mixed
income
communities?
That's
something
that
the
city
strives.
You
know,
that's
a
goal
that
they
have
and
that's
something
that
we
think
this'll
things
is
really
important.
So
so
now
today,
when
you
come
out
here,
you
wouldn't
you
wouldn't
know
the
difference
at
all.
You
don't
see
a
difference
in
the
homes
that
you
know
that
it's
the
interaction
among
the
community
is.
It
is
seamless
that.
A
Seamless
design
and
community
interaction
at
toby's
lane
make
it
one
street
that's
hard
to
miss
in
east
boulder.
All
of
the
homes
on
Toby's
Lane
have
sold,
but
thistle
communities
is
working
on
its
next
sustainable
and
mixed
income
project
called
Yarmouth
way.
The
community
is
currently
under
construction
on
Yarmouth
and
16th
streets
in
North
Boulder.
An
enthusiastic
city
council
made
a
major
contribution
to
early
childhood
education
in
boulder
on
Tuesday
night
voting
unanimously
to
provide
nine
hundred
and
sixty
thousand
dollars
to
a
collaborative
effort
known
as
the
wilderness
place
project.
A
The
initiative
led
by
the
acorn
school
for
early
childhood
development
involves
a
variety
of
nonprofit
and
governmental
partners,
including
Boulder
County,
head
start
public
health
and
social
services.
The
wilderness
place
project
will
provide
year-round,
childcare
and
enrichment
for
children
from
six
weeks
to
five
years,
along
with
wraparound
services
designed
to
help
children
succeed.
Research
shows
that
children
who
get
a
good
start
in
life
in
school
have
much
greater
chance
of
lifelong
success
and
self-sufficiency.
A
The
project
fills
a
critical
need
in
the
community
for
quality,
affordable
child
care
and
support
services,
especially
for
infant
toddler
care
and
working
families.
The
program
will
serve
about
90
new
children,
+
66,
head
start
children
from
lower-income
households.
The
money
from
the
city
comes
from
educational
excise
tax
revenue
and
would
be
used
to
help
fund
the
purchase
of
a
facility
in
North
East
Boulder.
The
funding
is
contingent
upon
the
project
securing
additional
funding
from
other
sources.
The
city's
funding
for
the
project
would
be
paid
back
to
the
city.

My
favorites
are
people
who
pass
the
citizenship
test
or
pass
the
GED
or
they
report
that
their
reading
to
their
kids
now
are
they
got
a
job
or
they
got
a
better
job
every
year
we
hear
that
from
all
of
our
students,
and
we
see
the
majority
of
them
accomplish.
Those
kind
of
major
things
in
a
short
period
of
time
is
pretty
exciting.
