Description
This week on Inside Boulder News: City crews change sections of the Folsom Street Living Lab back to their pre-installation form; planners want your feedback on plans for greater safety and access to Chautauqua; and Ancient Egypt is brought to life at the Boulder Public Library.
A
Welcome
to
inside
builder
news
I'm,
Ashley
Pearl
City
Council
recently
approved
adjustments
to
the
folsom
living
lab
project
and
crews
started
making
changes.
This
week.
The
changes
will
restore
Folsom
Street
to
its
pre
living
lab
lane
configuration
from
Canyon
Boulevard
to
spruce
street
returning
it
to
a
four-lane
Street
bicycle
lanes
will
remain
in
place,
but
will
return
to
their
width
prior
to
the
Living
Lab
installation
in
July.
The
changes
are
intended
to
improve
traffic
operations
along
this
particular
section
of
folsom,
including
at
its
intersections
with
pearl
and
canyon.
A
A
Modifications
are
expected
to
be
done
by
the
week
of
October
19th
other
private
projects
that
were
planned
as
part
of
phase
two
of
the
Living
Lab
continue
to
remain
on
hold,
while

on

feedback
from
the
event
will
be
used
to
help
guide
the
planning
process.
So.
B
In
2014,
voters
approved
a
community
culture
and
safety
tax
and
that
tax
identified
multiple
projects,
the
Chautauqua
project
being
one
of
them,
and
here
the
project
is
to
provide
pedestrian
safety
improvements.
That
includes
a
five
foot
wide
sidewalk
on
the
south
side
of
baseline
road
from
Kings
gate.
The
historic
trolley
and
current
transit
stop
west
of
tenth
Street,
and
it
will
continue
West
to
just
west
of
sixth
Street,
so
aligned
with
on
street
parking
on
the
south
side
of
baseline
road.
B
Currently,
there
are
no
sidewalks,
even
though
between
open
space
and
mountain
parks,
parks
and
recreation
and
the
Colorado
Chautauqua
Association
over
half
a
million
visitors
come
to
chautauqua
every
year,
so
those
that
are
parked
along
the
side
of
the
road
are
walking
in
the
street
and
the
community
recognize
that
as
a
safety
concern.
In
addition
to
the
sidewalk,
there
will
be
improved.
Pedestrian
connections

compliant
access
at

A
B
Project
team
developed
the
preliminary
plan
with
the
consideration
of
the
Chautauqua
area
and
tried
to
honor
the
historic
and
natural
character
of
the
area
in
developing
those
plans.
So
project
design,
material
selection
plantings
will
seek
to
recognize
and
incorporate
those
elements
where
possible,
an
additional
improvement
that
the
project
will
bring
us
to
the
transit,
stop
kingsgate,
it's
the
historic
trolley,
stop
and
current
transit
stop
and
the
project
will
reconstruct
the
stairs
at
kingsgate,
as
well
as
provide
and
americans
with
disabilities
act,
compliant
curb
providing
greater
access
to
those
with

Fire,

want
to
remind
visitors
not
too
light
campfires
on
city
open

Despite
recent
rain,
it's
still
critical
that
residents
and
visitors
do
everything
possible
to
prevent
fires
recently.
C
We've
seen
a
large
uptick
and
discovery
of
fire
pits
and
actual
active
campfires.
In
general,
we
see
a
few
fires
that
are
detected
or
fire
pits
that
are
found
by
the
Ranger
staff
and
recently,
we've
seen
at
least
15
plus
fire
pits
and
active
virus
discovered
in
the
month
of
September
alone.
So
it's
a
much
more
dramatic
increase
than
what
we've
seen
in
the
past,
regardless.

towards

community
on
thursday
october
15th.
Recently,
the
city
passed
an
ordinance
that
requires
composting
and
recycling
become
available
to
everyone
in
the
community.
The.
D
Vision
behind
the
ordinance
is
that
everybody,
regardless
of
where
they
are
in
town,
will
have
an
opportunity
to
recycle
or
compost
their
waste.
The
ordinance
means
that
if
you're
a
renter,
your
property
will
offer
composting
and
recycling
hauling
service.
If
you're
a
business,
you
will
be
offering
composting
and
recycling
to
your
customers,
as
well
as
to
your
employees.
We.

G
Have
for
Egyptologists
coming
several
of
them
quite
renowned
to
the
best
known,
is
mark
Lehner
who's
been
excavating
at
Giza,
the
place
where
the
great
pyramids
are
located,
the
Sphinx
and
all
of
those
it's
about
the
Old
Kingdom,
which
is
the
earliest
period
of
Egyptian
history.
It's
when
a
lot
of
the
things
we
think
of
as
typically
Egyptian
the
art
and
the
writing,
and
the
way
they
constructed
their
government
and
sets
when
those
things
are
being
created.
G
So
it's
really
the
origins
of
the
time
for
the
Egyptians,
the
Old
Kingdom
was
a
period
they
saw
as
kind
of
the
height
of
their
culture.
So
it's
an
interesting
time
to
look
back
at
from
their
perspective,
and
one
of
our
Egyptologists
will
actually
be
doing
that
talking
about
ancient
Egyptian
views
of
the
Old
Kingdom
hands.
