Description
City of Charleston Commission on History 7/5/2023
A
A
Are
there
any
any
anything
to
catch
or
can
I
hear
a
motion
to
approve
them?
Is
there
a
second
any
discussion
all
in
favor,
please
say
aye.
Thank
you
and
the
second
order
of
business
is
the
approval
of
the
February
1st
minutes
again.
B
C
I'm
willing
of
we'll
build
a
creative
I
hope
some
of
the
graphic
design
you're
going
to
see
today.
A
With
capital
projects
well
great
thanks
for
being
here
and
thanks
for
reminding
me
that
y'all
every
time
we
speak,
I
think
we're
supposed
to
turn
on
our
green
light
and
when
I'm,
not
speaking,
I,
should
turn
mine
off
I
guess
so.
There's
a
lot
to
go
through.
A
My
thought
is
that
when
God
created
copy
editors,
he
did
not
necessarily
think
it
was
a
committee
that
was
going
to
do
it
so
I'm
not
trying
to
seize
power,
but
I
thought
in
the
for
the
sake
of
brevity
I
would
suggests
the
changes
that
I
went
through
and
made,
and
then
maybe
people
can
vote
on
that
and
again
they're.
Just
small
stylistic
changes.
There's
some
phrasing.
A
You
know
some
verb
tense
and
that
kind
of
thing
and
and
I
think
and
I'm
glad
that
you
are
here
you're
here
as
well
too,
because
I
do
think
every
now
and
then
there's
a
word
missing
that
I'd
like
to
know.
So
is
that,
okay
with
you
all,
if
I
maybe
just
start
with
the
first
one,
welcome
to
the
West,
Ashley,
Greenway
and
I
think
I
kept
them
in
order,
or
would
the
city
like
to
present
anything
about
it?
A
E
We
thank
you
all
for
coming
on
the
5th
of
July
I
hope
you
had
a
good
Fourth
of
July
I'm
Chase
Anderson
with
capital
projects,
so
this
project
came
to
us
about
a
year
ago
and
it
was
born
out
of
the
plan.
E
West
Ashley
efforts
that
went
on
a
few
a
couple
years
ago
and
one
of
what
we
heard
from
the
citizens
was:
let's
have
some
wayfinding
signage
on
the
greenway
and
Bikeway,
and
so
we
got
with
Will
Bullock
and
we
formed
a
stakeholder
Committee
of
which
Donna
Jacobs
was
a
a
member
of
council
member
Appel,
Devin
Andrews
from
Charleston
Parks
Conservancy,
Eric,
Pullman,
West,
Ashley,
planner,
Katie
Zimmerman
from
Charleston
moves
and
I.
E
Think
that
was
that's
all
five
of
us
and
we
went
through
and
one
of
the
first
things
we
did
was
develop.
The.
F
E
That
you
see
on
the
corners
on
different
aspects
of
the
signage
and
then
we
got
into
sort
of
Designing
the
sign
types
and
as
it
evolved,
Miss
Jacobs
kept
bringing
up
the
opportunities
to
include
some
interpretive
historic,
interpretive
panels
on
to
this
Trailhead
size,
which
you
can
see
there
outlined
in
red,
and
then
she
was
generous
enough
to
come
up
with
all
of
the
content
and
imagery
that
we
would
be
reviewing
today.
E
So
we
we
have
been
through
the
design,
review
board
and
they've,
given
us
the
sign
off
for
this.
So
at
this
point
we're
looking
forward
to
having
a
conversation
with
you
all
our
my
next
step
will
be
going
to
CWS
Charleston,
Water
Systems
and
help
figure
out
where
exactly
these
signs
will
go
along
the
greenway,
because
we
have
to
coordinate
with
their
utilities,
make
sure
we're
not
blocking
anything
from
their
perspective
and
then
go
out
for
forbid
and
then
installation.
E
E
It
is
6x6
posts
on
and
right
now
we're
getting
it
priced
in
two
different
ways:
one
is
a
three-quarter
inch
mdo,
which
is
like
plywood
and
then
a
vinyl
printed
cover
for
that
sign,
and
then
the
second
way
for
pricing
is
a
it's
called,
a
uhm
or
umh
as
a
high
density
styrofoam.
So
it's
a
little
bit
of
a
more
expensive
product,
but
should
last
longer.
E
The
logo
is
signifying
the
the
Marsh
and
water
along
the
greenway
that
you
see
with
the
sunshine
and
we
we
went
through,
probably
seven
or
so
different
logos
with
the
committee
and
Will
was
gracious
enough
to
bear
with
us
as
we
went
through
them
all,
and
this
is
the
one
that
was
most
liked
by
most
of
the
members
and
we
hope
it
and
we
can
actually
have
we'll,
come
and
talk
to
that
to
the
graphics
of
that
so
miss.
If
you'd
like
and.
E
Mile
marker
will
be
front
and
back
most
of
the
signs
are
to
be
and
the
I'm
sorry,
the
the
road
signs
will
be
front
and
back
the
other
will
be
sort
of
parallel
with
the
Trail.
So.
E
Ma'am,
the
sorry
the
signs
closest
to
the
silhouette
there
or
show
you
like
you
are
here
and
with
mile
markers
designated
on
each
sign
and
then,
of
course,
the
trailhead
signs
will
be
at
the
major
intersections
where
most
people
come
to
get
onto
the
greenway
and
Bikeway.
D
Don't
have
an
absolute
number,
but
on
any
given
day
an
even
given
time
you
can
it's
heavily
used
and
especially
in
certain
areas
between
wapu
Road
and
South,
Windermere
Shopping
Center,
because
there
are
schools
there
and
there
are.
It's
used
a
lot
by
school
children
and
families
taking
their
kids
to
school
people
walking
to
the
grocery
stores
to
sort
of
things.
But
I
don't
know
that
I
have
an
absolute
number
right
now.
E
A
Are
there
any
other
general
questions
about
the
project?
One
can
really
see
that
there's
a
lot
of
work,
that's
gone
into
it
and
again
so
ready
to
start
paying
attention
to
the
text.
A
So
my
issues
with
the
text
are
basically
mostly
grammatical
and
just
and
actually
maybe
some
some
questioning.
So
it
is
Charleston
Water
Systems,
because
I
see
on
the
first
one,
it
says
owned
by
Charleston
Water.
So
it's
a
technical
thing:
it's
a
Charleston,
Water
Systems,
plural,
okay,
yeah
so
and
again,
I,
don't
know
how
much
detail
you
want
to
I
I,
didn't
I'll,
just
say:
I
thought.
A
Instead
of
linking
the
economies
of
Charleston
and
Savannah
for
the
first
sentence,
I
said
this
Trail
once
a
railroad,
blinked,
Charleston
and
Savannah
economically
starting
in
1853,
it
has
evolved
into
a
major
infrastructure,
Corridor
owned
by
the
and
is
it
by
the
Charleston
Water
Systems.
Or
should
we
say
just
by
Charleston
Water
Systems.
A
Okay
and
again,
I
mean
some.
Some
organizations
do
have
the
you
know
the
thing:
okay,
so
and
and
I
have
tried
to
so.
It
has
evolved
into
a
major
infrastructure,
Corridor
owned
by
Charleston
Water
Systems
and
is
also
a
linear
park
for
the
City
of
Charleston
comma.
We
can
cut
a
word
connecting
neighborhoods
paren,
former
farmlands,
comma
schools
and
businesses
by
foot
and
bicycle
instead
of
instead
of
duplicating
community
in
both
sentences.
I've
suggested
this
energy
is
vital
period,
enjoy
the
history
and
nature
of
this
treasured
Community
Asset.
C
D
C
D
D
It's
not
all
underground,
it's
above
ground
for
Dominion
at
Goldberg,
all
the
way
to
Arlington
how
about
elect
your
electrical
system
for
all
of
West
Ashley?
How.
A
So,
commissioners,.
A
I
A
And
again,
I
think
we're
getting
a
sense
with
a
lot
less
words
and
so
I
may
ask
you
Nick
to
help
with
the
sentence
it
has
evolved
into
a
major
utility
Corridor
owned
by
Charleston
Water
Systems.
C
Well,
I
was
just
thinking
that
myself
excuse
me.
I
was
just
thinking,
rethinking
that
myself
and
we
might
be
able
to
say
based
on
what
you
just
said
for
the
first
sentence:
how
about
now
a
major
utility
Corridor
owned
by
Charleston
Water,
because
it
is
no
it's
no
longer
a
railroad
Corridor,
it's
a
utility
corridor,
and
so
now
a
major
utility
Corridor
owned
by
Charleston
Water
Systems
comma.
I
I
A
A
C
Well,
at
this
point,
we
might
ask
the
the
authors
of
this,
which
of
those
two
communities
is
most
important.
This
energy
is
vital
for
the
community
enjoy
the
history
and
nature
of
this
treasured
asset.
A
C
A
C
A
Is
that
okay
with
the
office
and
again
we're
being
grammarians
and
we're
also
just
trying
we're
used
to
trying
to
save
space?
Well.
A
A
Yeah,
okay,
so
if
this
sign,
if
we
can
do
it
sign
by
sign
like
we
normally
do,
is
their
emotion
to
accept
this.
The
way
it
is
presented.
A
Another
right,
so
are
we
ready
to
move
to
the
next
one,
and
this
is
one
general
question:
I
have
Donna,
and
maybe
you
can
answer
too
they're
credit
lines
on
the
photographs,
but
most
of
them
do
not
have
captions.
A
Do
we
think
that
is
an
issue
that
the
photos
don't
have
captions?
Oh.
F
Do
you
mean
credit
rather
than
captions.
A
I
mean
there
are
credits,
and
then
there
are
titles
you
know
like
like
the
next
one.
You
know,
I
can
say
it
says:
railroad,
history
and
there's
an
image
of
a
big
interior.
Looking
I,
don't
know
it's
a
Packing
Shed,
but
it
just
says
photo
credit,
South,
Carolina,
historical
society,
but
we
don't
have
a
caption
for
the
image.
H
A
D
Whatever
is
supposedly
appropriate
for
the
credit,
however,
those
that
verbiage
is
I'm
used
to
I
did
I
used
what
I
use
for
Arcadia.
So
you
know.
A
D
A
So
so,
thanks
and
and
I
think
this
is
pretty
much
I
have
a
few
suggestions
for
the
for
the
next
one
railroad
history.
The
concept
for
the
Charleston,
Savannah
railroad
began
in
1853
and
I
think
needs
a
comma
and
comma.
In
1902
the
rail
line
was
sold
to
the
Atlantic
Coastline
Railroad,
the
nine
miles
of
rail
that
became
the
greenway
was
known
as
krogan's
and
does
krogan's
have
an
apostrophe.
Yes,.
D
A
Right
now,
okay
right
and
serve
the
truck
Farms
along
the
way
and
I
would
suggest
cutting
the
word
term
and
then
just
starting.
The
next
sentence,
truck
in
quotation
marks,
derives
from
the
French
term,
troquet,
meaning
to
barter
and
I
would
suggest
grammatically.
The
final
sentence
should
be
truck
farming
and
it
refers
instead
of
referred
to.
So
it's
truck
farming
refers.
It's
not
referring
to
the
vegetables,
sorry
for
being
a
grammarin.
It's
it's
referring
to
raising
vegetables.
So
truck
farming
refers
to
veget,
raising
vegetables
for
marketing.
B
B
A
E
D
A
A
D
And
this
this,
this
sign
is
going
to
go
approximately
where
Folly
Road
a
Wesley
drive
and
Folly
Across,
The,
Greenway
right
and
right
in
there
you're
not
too
far
away
from
krogan's,
which
had
a
large
shed
like
that.
Almost
all
of
them
had
large
sheds
like
that.
You
can
see
visually
in
a
later
picture
of
I
can
show
you
of
where
the
railroad
is.
You
can
see
the
building.
D
I
A
A
We
don't
know
per
se
that
it's
krogan's
spur
shed,
but
we
could
just
call
it
Farms,
yeah
Trucking
shed
or
what?
What?
What
would
you
call
that.
A
D
I
think
I
mean
I
think
that's
a
great
suggestion.
This
was
just
the
way
they
were
designed
and
given
to
me
to
fill
in
the.
A
Sure
no
no
paragraph
under
the
cell,
and
we
are
so
grateful
that
you're
here,
because
otherwise
we
would
be
sitting
here.
Spinning
our
Wheels,
not
knowing
like
I,
said
about
the
apostrophe
and
stuff
like
that.
So
we
appreciate
and
I
said
so.
You
know
we're
being
more
English
teachers
than
we
are
historians
you're,
the
historian,
so
we'll
call
it
railroad,
Packing
Shed
that.
D
A
A
Sure-
and
it's
pretty
much
almost
exactly
the
way
it
is
and
I
think
it's
probably
right
here-
I'll
double
today
too
well,
we'll
get
I'll
read
it
if
the
concept,
let's
see
the
concept
for
the
Charleston
to
Savannah.
Oh,
it
is
right
there,
the
concept
of
the
Charleston,
Savannah
railroad,
began
in
1853,
comma
and
and
I
think
and
I
think
this
should
be
and
In
1902
comma.
The
rail
line
was
sold
to
the
Atlantic
Coastline
railroad,
the
nine
miles
of
rail
that
became
the
greenway
was
known
as
krogan's
apostrophe
s
for
and
service.
A
G
A
Yeah
yeah,
thank
you.
Pardon
me
page
directions,
okay,
so
great
so
the
next
one
again
it
was
the
next
one
Donna
that
really
kind
of
threw
me
for
the
no
actually,
the
one
after
that.
So
all
that
and
this
one
does
have
a
caption
sort
of
embedded
in
the
image
itself,
which
and
I
don't
and
I'll
defer
to
you
all.
If
you
think
there
needs
something
else
for
that,
it
actually
says:
Charleston,
SC,
potato
shipping.
A
You
have
potato
shipping
and
yeah
simply
repeat
the
same.
Should
we
suggest
that
that
caption
be
repeated
under
the
postcard?
A
All
right,
yes,
anyway,
so
John
Brannon
b-r-a-n-n-e-n
was
considered
one
of
the
more
successful
truck
farmers
in
Saint
Andrews
Parish
during
the
late
team
or
during
the
late
1800s
I
think
we
need
the
and
and
early
1900s
he
grew
potatoes
and
strawberries.
I
think
you
need
to
take
the
need
to
take
the
comma
out.
He
grew
potatoes
and
strawberries
and
raised
horses.
A
C
A
But
again
you
know
I,
think
or
if
we
want
to
just
so
is
the
thought
we're
going
to
repeat
the
caption.
That's
on
the
postcard!
That's
a
great
postcode.
D
A
She's
amazing
but
anyway,
so
any
Zone
I
digress.
Any
more
thoughts
about
the
task.
C
I
have
a
couple
of
ideas
it
if,
if
you're
worried
about
the
readability
of
the
caption,
that's
printed
on
the
postcard
we
could,
the
text
could
say:
John,
Brennan's,
Truck,
Farm,
comma,
pictured
above
comma
was
considered
one
of
the
more
successful
farms
in
Saint
Andrews
Parish.
During
the
late
1800s
and
early
1900s.
D
G
A
Know
and
again
again,
I
think
as
long
as
we're
and
I
think
they'll
be.
A
So
I
will
wait
for
y'all
to
signal.
Is
it
okay
to
go
on
to
the
next
one?
Yes,
this
was
the
image
that
I
was
confused
a
little
bit
about
Donna
and
I'm.
Sorry
I'm
trying
to
speak
into
the
microphone
and
not
block
the
screen
at
the
same
time.
So
is
this
a
photograph
of?
Does
it
contain
Voorhees
Plantation
in
this
image.
A
A
And
again,
but
but
I
did
not
understand
how
that
photograph
related
to
the
text
and
I
was
assuming
so
maybe
we
can
do
it
in
there
but
again
I
guess
if
we
want
to
be
consistent,
could
we
just
say
part
of
work?
Here's
Plantation
aerial
view
of
part
of
vortgers
Plantation
that.
B
D
A
That's
good
yeah
by
the
peak
of
his
career
and
I
would
suggest
taking
it
out
of
subjunctive
by
the
peak
of
his
career.
He
owned
1
000
Acres
of
cultivated
land,
the
land
of
Voorhees
transitioned
from
farming
to
and
I
would
say
the
residential
neighborhood
of
Harrison
Acres,
it's
cool
in
the
1960s
notice
and
I
would
say,
probably
magnet.
Do
you
think
it's
the
Magnolia
Drive-In
notice,
Magnolia
drive-in
theater
Center
in
the
photograph
that
was
located
along
Savannah
highway?
That's.
D
That
and
that's
the
aerial
where
you
can
see
where
the
railroad
is
really
and
where
packing
sheds
are
right
in
the
center
of
the
photograph.
A
G
When
I
write,
I
always
put
Plantation
with
a
small,
Peak
and
I,
don't
know
what
other
people
do,
but
usually
plantations
were
just
that
was
an
adjective
not
the
name
of
you,
don't
say:
Middleton
Plantation
or
Middleton,
Place,
Plantation
or
Drayton
Hall
Plantation,
with
a
peak
capital,
P
and
I
want
I'm
wondering
about
Voorhees.
We.
D
Actually,
in
this
deed,
they
list
the
Voorhees
people
by
name
and
not
by
Plantation
I've,
seen
it,
though,
in
documents
with
a
capital,
P
I've,
seen
and
I've
seen
before,
we
spelled
several
different
ways
to
so.
This
was
as
close
as
I
could
get
yeah
several
of
the
ones
we've
seen
like
Weimar
Plantation
spells
or
the
capital
P2.
When.
A
A
Okay,
so
I'll
read
what
the
screen
says:
Joseph
M
Harrison
acquired
boy,
here's
the
plantation
in
1917,
having
moved
to
Charleston
from
Virginia
in
the
early
1900s
by
the
peak
of
his
career.
He
owned
a
thousand
acres
of
cultivated
land,
the
Voorhees
land
transitioned
from
farming
to
the
residential
neighborhood
of
Harrison
acres
in
the
1960s
notice,
Magnolia
notice,
the
Magnolia
drive-in
theater
center
in
the
photograph
that
was
located
along
Savannah
highway,
caption
aerial
view
of
part
of
Voorhees
Plantation.
A
C
It's
a
like
Peg
said:
it's
a
real
estate,
artifact
right
so
rather
than
repeating
the
word
land
in
there
cultivated
land
period,
the
Voorhees
property
he
said
land
a
moment
ago,
but.
C
And
in
the
last
sentence
we
could
avoid
the
definite
article
question
and
just
say:
Magnolia
drive-in
theater
center
of
the
photograph
above
was.
A
A
So
Joseph
M
Harrison
acquired
Roy
Vegas
Plantation
in
1917,
having
moved
to
Charleston
from
Virginia
in
the
early
1900s
by
the
peak
of
his
career,
he
owned
a
thousand
acres
of
cultivated
land.
The
void,
here's
property
transitioned
from
farming
to
the
residential
neighborhood
of
Harrison
acres
in
the
1960s
Magnolia
drive-in
theater
center
in
the
photograph
in
paren
was
located
along
Savannah
Highway.
D
It's
I
think
it's
snowden's
books.
D
A
D
A
Truck
farming
provided
an
economic
engine
for
the
area
for
the
area
and
the
post.
Sorry
truck
farming
provided
an
economic
engine
for
the
area
in
the
post-civil
War
era,
I
would
say
into
the
20th
century,
because
again
we
always
assume
people
are
going
to
see
a
truck
and
they're
going
to
see
a
caption
saying,
post-civil,
War
they're,
going
to
think
that's
a
post-civil
war
truck
and
it's
obviously
an
early
20th
century
truck.
So.
A
No,
not
necessarily,
but
basically
just
saying
but
I
mean
I
would
defer
to
y'all.
If
you
think
we
need
it,
it
says
you
know
what
I
was
saying:
the
photographs
cat
the
photographs
caption
on
its
back
reads:
artistic
loading,
vegetables
for
Eastern
markets,
ew
King,
so
do
y'all
think
it
needs
the
caption
again
with
the
first
line
repeats.
What
the
caption
is
on
the
back.
A
You
and
it
should-
and
you
can
get
rid
of
that,
so
the
photographs
caption
on
the
back
reads:
artistic
loading.
Vegetables
are
easy
right
right,
cabbage,
Beach
sugar
beets,
tournaments
the
carrot
for
just
a
few
of
the
vegetables
and
I
think
we
can
just
do
vegetables.
Plural
instead
of
vegetable
types.
C
A
Brown
and
Saint
Andrews
Paris
destined
for
Market
by
rail
in
1879.
However,
strawberries
were
considered
the
most
profitable
problem
truck
farming.
Do
we
need
a
capital
f?
I
don't
think
so.
In
farming
truck
farming
provided
an
economic
engine
for
the
area
and
the
post-civil
War
era
into
the
20th
century.
A
D
B
D
Came
from
a
was
given
to
me
by
Eric
Pullman,
he
found
it
in
the
archives
and
I.
Don't
think
it
was
a
dated
because
I
asked
it.
A
B
A
We're
trying
to
say
we're
trying
to
put
photographs
initially
in
the
first
sentence
in
the
word.
So
people
know
that
there's
a
link
between
the
image
above
and
the
photograph
so.
A
B
A
A
Do
we
need
a
comma
and
put
your
back?
You
know,
remember
they're,
like
sure
yeah
I
think
so.
This
undated
photograph
is
captioned
on
the
back
artistic
loading,
vegetables
for
Eastern
markets
from
ew,
King,
Charleston,
SC,
cabbage
beets,
sugar
beets,
turnips
and
parrots
we're
just
a
few
of
the
vegetables
grown
in
St
Andrews
Parish
destined
for
markets
by
rail
in
1879.
However,
strawberries
were
considered
the
most
profitable
crop
truck
farming
provided
an
economic
engine
for
the
area
in
the
post-civil
War
era
into
the
20th
century.
A
So
Dupont
Crossing
do
we
want
to
do
a
caption
first.
D
Is
a
this
is
a
plot
showing
literally
where
the
railroad
crossed
the
highway
in
what
was
known
as
Dupont
Crossing
in
West
Ashley,
the
larger
area
where
the
Seaboard
Airline
crossed
the
Atlantic
Coastline
was
called
Dupont
Crossing,
and
so
therefore,
because
there
was
a
Dupont
shed
there
and
therefore
the
whole
area
around
wapu,
Road
and
Savannah
highway
became
known
as
Dupont
Crossing.
So
people
said,
oh,
you
want
to
go
to
DuPont.
Crossing
people
generally
knew
where
you
were
going
and
wapu
road
was
more
or
less
considered
the
center
of
Saint
Andrews
Parish.
D
That's
why
they
located
the
high
school
there
when
they
moved
to
school
formally
onto
wapley
Road.
It
was
considered
the
geographic
center
of
the
parish.
A
A
So
to
me
it
reads:
you
know,
you
know
the
title
of
this
is
Dupont
Crossing
and
we're
explaining
why
it's
called
Dupont
crossing
right.
It's
called
Dupont
Crossing,
because
this
convergence
of
all
of
these
spaces,
which
are
basically
shown
I,
guess
in
the
plat,
which
is
the
larger
image.
D
And
I
think
that
if
we
move
the
Packing
Shed,
which
was
a
late
addition
to
do
that
to
the
blank
space
on
the
right
of
that
image,
the
hashed
blue
building
that
it's
partially
covered
I
think
it
says
the
market
building
underneath
there
I
think
that
would
help.
I
didn't
see
this
inset
till
just
now.
That's.
B
So
so
maybe
it
should
run
during
the
truck
the
truck
farming
era.
Dupont
Crossing
was
on
top
of
activities,
dreams
were
trains
were
loaded
from
northern
markets.
We
can
focus
from
Charleston
flying
Market
Building
located
along
the
seafood
Airline
Railway,
and
then
it
could
be
repeated
to
start
processing
is
where,
where
you
can
repeat,
the
fact
that
this
is
the
class,
if
you
want
to
be
processing,
is
located
where
Savannah
highway
walk
through
the
Seaboard
Etc
emerged.
A
So
what
are
your
thoughts
Donna?
Do
you
think,
would
that
work.
A
And
then
you
could
say
and
then
you
would
say,
and
they
can
say
you
know
it,
you
know
it
was
where
Savannah
highway,
wapu
road
and
Seabrook
Airline
Railroad
and
the
Atlantic
cross
line
railroad
converged
well.
A
D
A
So
again,
but
the
original
tense
is
is
was
but
then
then
we'd
have
to
figure
out
and
was
considered
the
center
of
Saint
Andrews
Parish,
which
is
not
anymore
correct.
It's.
A
So
I'm,
so
if
we
flip
the
sentences,
we
said
we
would
say
during
the
truck
farming
era,
it
was
a
anyways.
No.
So
during
the
truck
farming
era,
Dupont
Crossing
was
a
hub
of
activity.
A
Etc,
as
trains
were
loaded
for
Northern
markets
with
produce
from
Charleston
County
Market
building
once
located
along
the
Sebring
Airline
Railroad,
the
area
it
the
area
where
area
where
Savannah
highway,
WAP
the
road
and
the
Seabrook
Airline
Railroad
and
the
Atlantic
Coastline
railroad
converged,
is
known
as
Dupont
Crossing
and
is
the
center
and
is
considered
the
center
of
Saint
Andrews
Parish.
Would
that
work.
D
That
would
work,
although
we're
going
to
get
into
a
little
bit
of
a
thought
process
here,
because
we're
no
longer
St
Andrews
Parish
we're
the
City
of
Charleston
for
the
majority.
I
I
A
Maybe
to
read
it
again,
I'll
see
it
so.
During
the
truck
farming
era,
Dupont
Crossing
was
a
hub
of
activity,
is
trained
for
voted
for
Northern
and
I.
Think
Northern
has
to
be
capitalized
for
Northern
markets
with
produce
from
the
Charleston
County
Market
building
once
located
along
the
Seaboard
Airline
railroad
RR,
the
area
where
Cabana
Highway
waffle,
Road
the
sea,
the
Seaborn
Seaboard
Airline
Railroad
in
the
Atlantic
coast.
Railroad
are
our
converged,
is
known
as
Dupont
Crossing
and
was
considered
the
center
of
Saint
Andrews
and
to
the
apocryphy
s
AC
St,
Andrews
Parish.
F
Yeah
and
then
I
believe
Chase
had
a
question
or
a
comment.
Sorry.
D
D
A
D
A
C
Harlan,
it
bothers
me
that
in
that
paragraph,
we're
explaining
twice
that
it's
called
Dupont
Crossing
in
the
first
sentence
and
the
the
last
so
in
the
in
the
rearranged
format
we
were
explaining.
What
do
prompt
Crossing
is
in
the
first
sentence,
so
in
the
second
half,
perhaps
it
could
say
the
area
where
Savannah
highway,
Walker
Road
and
Seaboard
Airline
Railroad
and
the
Atlantic
Coastline
railroad,
converged
comma
long
considered.
The
center
of
Saint
Andrews,
Parish
comma,
is
still
known
as
Dupont
Crossing
period
or.
A
A
I
mean
I'm,
just
saying
you
know
the
first,
you
know
it's
all
caps.
The
first
thing
you
read
is
Dupont
Crossing
and
instead
of
reading
in
the
next
sentence,
Dupont
Crossing,
it
might
be
more
better,
as
we
say
and
again,
I'm
just
throwing
it
out
there.
You
know
saying
that
this
was
a
hub
of
activity
right,
Donna,
no.
D
I
was
going
to
answer
his
question
and
you
finished
that
sign
is
going
to
be
placed
where
the
greenway
crosses
wapu
road,
which
is
part
of
the
greater
area
known
as
Dupont
crossing
the
physical
Crossing
is
a
little
bit
further
down
south
physical
Crossing.
I
A
D
D
A
So
we
prepared
to
move
to
the
next
next
text.
Okay,
so
the
area
and
I
think
I
found
little
with
this
one.
The
area
around
this
intersection
was
considered
the
center
of
Saint
Andrews,
Parish
I,
don't
know
if
we
wanted
to
put
white
students
instead
of
just
students,
because
this
was
a
segregated
high
school
and
we
don't
have
images
of
black
people
in
this
image.
You
know
so.
A
That
would
be
my
thought:
white
students
from
Saint,
Andrews,
Parish,
High
School,
walked
to
the
corner
of
wapu,
Road
and
Savannah
highway
for
sodas
and
snacks
from
Boodles
in
the
early
1940s.
This
was
a
privilege
usually
afforded
to
seniors
notice,
the
railroad
tracks
crossing
the
road
in
the
Charleston,
County,
Market,
building
and
I.
A
Don't
think
you
need
located,
you
could
just
say
in
the
background
and
I,
don't
know
if
you
want
to
you
know:
Nick
beforehand,
you
took
out
the
notice,
you
basically
say
if
you
want
to
do
that,
and
that
was
the
only
thought
and
do
we
need
to
say,
since
this
is
the
first
time
someone
might
come
across
Boodles
the
next
one
describes
what
Boodles
is
I
think
so
do
we
want
to
say
Boodles
grocery
or
something
like
that,
because
again,
if
this
is
the
first,
you
come
across
it,
people
not
might
not
know
what
Boodles
is
and.
D
A
D
A
I
A
I
A
Area
around
this
intersection
was
considered
the
center
of
Saint
Andrews
Parish
white
students
from
Saint
Andrews,
Parish,
high
school,
walk
to
the
corner
of
Walker,
Road
and
Savannah
highway
for
sodas
and
snack
from
boodle's
grocery
in
the
early
1940s.
This
was
a
privilege
usually
afforded
to
seniors
notice,
the
railroad
tracks
crossing
the
road
and
the
Charleston
County
Market
building
in
the
background,
okay,
to
go
ahead
for
the
next
and
we've
got
the
caption
St
Andrews
Parish
high
school
students
on
wapu
Road.
A
What
once
served
I,
don't
think.
I've
got
anything
that
what
once
served
to
link
the
truck
farmers
of
Saint
Andrews
Parish
to
Northern,
and
here
Northern
is
capitalized
to
Northern
markets
by
the
Seaboard
Airline
railroad,
beginning
comma,
beginning
in
1916,
comma
has
evolved
into
a
linear
Park
for
the
City
of
Charleston
and
I.
A
Don't
know
if
you
want
Dash
or
just
comma
or
not
any
has
evolved
into
a
linear
park
for
the
City
of
Charleston,
connecting
neighborhoods
former
Farmland
schools
and
businesses
by
foot
and
bicycle
enjoy
the
history
and
nature
of
this
treasured,
Community,
Asset
and
beforehand.
Nick
I
think
you
had
said
instead
of
has
evolved,
you
know
is
now
I
think
you
said
we
could
go
back
to
that.
Original
language
is
now
a
linear
Park.
D
This
this
railroad
rail
bed
is
owned
by
the
City
of
Charleston
is
different,
and
so
it's
kind
of
the
trailhead
starts
for
the
Bikeway
on
wapu
road.
Also
so
you're
going
to
see
a
little
bit
of
duplication
only
because
some
people
are
only
on
the
Bikeway
right
now,
and
some
people
are
only
on
the
greenway.
We
hope
to
have
it
all
nicely
connected
soon.
D
A
D
We've
abbreviated
it
previously
only
because
we
were
short
of
space
and
I've
always
wondered
if
we
should
be
consistent
other
places
we
were
just
short
in
space
I.
A
D
I
B
B
D
B
D
C
A
A
And
I
would
suggest
here:
Luther
and
Grace
boodle
ran
a
grocery
store
gas
station
and
Munch
room
from
the
late
1930s
to
the
mid-1940s.
Their
building
was
a
prominent
fixture
at
the
corner
of
wapu
Road
and
Savannah
highway
in
the
area
known
as
Pleasant
Grove.
A
Do
you
think
we
need
also
Luther
boodle
served
and
Luther
Brook
boodle
served
as
the
chief
of
Saint
Andrews
Paris
fire
department
from
1954
1956
in
set
Grace
boodle
serves
a
customer
at
I.
Think
we
just
said:
Grace
boodle
serves
a
customer
at
the
grocery,
since
I
think
we've
named
it
and
I
guess
we
haven't
named
it
before
at
boodle's,
grocery.
A
A
And
if
you
needed
to
save
space,
you
could
say
the
building
instead
of
their
building,
but
their
building
was
a
prominent
fixture
at
the
corner
of
wapu,
Road
and
Savannah
highway.
In
the
you
know,
in
the
area
where
you
could
say,
would
it
we
could,
we
say
say
in
an
area
also
known
as
Pleasant
Grove.
A
C
A
A
Rice
poodle
ran
a
grocery
store
gas
station
and
lunchroom
here
from
the
late
19th
or
late
1930s
to
the
mid-1940s.
Their
building
was
a
prominent
fixture
at
the
corner
of
Wahoo,
Road
and
Savannah
highway,
and
an
area
also
known
as
Pleasant
Grove
Luther
boodle
served
as
the
chief
of
Saint
Andrews
I.
Don't
think
I
don't
think
we
need
to
be
Luther
boodle
served
as
chief
of
Saint
Andrews
Paris
fire
department,
From
1954-56,
Grace

One.
I
B
D
We've
enhanced
that
as
best
we
can
to
the
reason
that
was
chosen.
Is
it's
one
of
the
few
that
we
have.
That
shows
that
railroad
crossing
the
river
right
there
and
it's
kind
of
the
important
part
of
the
photograph.
D
A
H
A
If
we
say
you
know
to
the
right
what
c
c
bar
and
Seaboard
Airline
railroad,
what
Trestle
do
we
want
to
call
it
or
just
crossing
the
ACT?
You
know.
A
A
B
A
Yeah
so
I'm
glad
someone's
here
too
so
again,
the
construction
of
the
Seaboard,
Airline
railroad
provided
the
opportunity
for
truck
Farmers
I.
Don't
think
you
need
the
article
for
truck
Farmers
to
quickly
move,
produce
to
Northern,
capitalized
markets
and
command
a
higher
price
and
again
I.
Think
for
consistency.
You
can
cut
the
word
the
term
we
can
just
start.
You
know,
quote
capital
T
truck
derived
from
the
French
and
you
don't
need
term
to
say
from
the
French
croquet
again
just
for
meaning
to
barter
truck
farming
and
again
refers
not
referred.
D
A
D
B
A
A
A
So
the
construction
of
the
Seaboard
Airline
railroad
provided
provided
opportunity
provided
the
opportunity
for
truck
Farmers
to
quickly
move
produce
to
Northern
markets
and
command.
A
higher
price
truck
derives
from
the
French
troquet,
meaning
departer
truck
farming
refers
to
raising
vegetables
per
Market.
Cabbage
grown
in
the
area
was
particularly
memorable
for
its
unpleasant
smell
patch
and
Seaboard
Airline
Railroad
train
bridge
right
crossing
the
Ashby
River.
I
D
The
Carl
Richardson
Park
has
gone
through
a
very
extensive
review
with
your
commission
about
interpretive
signs
that
are
going
to
go
on
down
at
the
Carl
Richardson
Park,
but
we
didn't
want
to
ignore
when
we
place
the
sign
at
the
trailhead
down
there,
that
is
in
Maryville.
D
A
But
you
know
yeah
yeah,
but
again
and
I
think
we
also
say
that
it's
no
longer,
you
know
Incorporated.
We
need
to
say
that
and
I
don't
know
so
the
town
of
Maryville
or
we
can
just
say,
Mary,
okay,
the
Town
of
Maryville
and
I.
Don't
know
how
to
do
it
now,
part
of
Charleston,
because
we
have
to
prove
we
have
to
say
that
it
no
longer
extends
and.
D
A
D
B
Is
this
it's
like
you're
I,
just
you
know
if
it
were
me
and
I
were
walking
by
here
and
and
I
saw
this
sign,
I'm
thinking
well,
tell
me
more
about
Maryville
I
mean
you've
chosen
this
individual
to
talk
about
that.
This
person
actually
live
at
this
location,
where
this
marker
is,
is
that
why
she's
being.
D
B
B
B
B
A
C
B
D
Actually
I
I
deferred
to
Diane
Hamilton,
who
wrote
the
book
on
Maryville
to
write
this
for
me
to
make
sure
that
I
always
make
sure
the
community
is
very
comfortable
with
how
we
interpret
their
history,
so
she
works
she's,
actually,
probably
watching
on
YouTube.
She
had
hoped
to
be
here
today,
so
I
had
deferred
to
her
to
help
me
write
this
Legend
understanding
that
we're
going
to
do
a
lot
of
interpretation
at
the
car,
Richardson,
Park
and
hopefully
install
more
signs
in
the
future.
A
A
You
know
no
longer
expand
predominantly
black
and
terrier
dog
wasn't
Incorporated
in
1888.
A
D
I
I
B
D
C
The
in
the
interest
of
the
number
of
words
on
the
page,
I,
don't
know
if
it's
worth
putting
both
of
those
dates
in
I
would
rather
see
the
inclusion
of
the
1936
date.
Is
that
what
you.
D
C
I
C
Like
that
better,
because
people
didn't
get
up
and
move
they're
still
there
right,
they
just
lost
their
political
status.
A
Mary
Matthews
just
wasn't
early,
who
was
an
early,
influential
leader.
She
was
postmasterist
and
we
could
say
an
instrumental
and
I
guess
you
don't
need
a
comma,
oh
I'm,
sorry,
I'm!
Sorry,
sorry,
I
didn't
read
the
sorry
yeah
because
you
may
tell
my
glasses
I
do
not
have
my
prescription
glasses
or
something
using
a
reader.
So
I
can't
really
see
she
was
postmistress
and
instrumental.
Let's
see.
A
B
D
D
University
of
Chicago
in
Europe
he
was
very
well
known,
Beyond.
D
A
D
C
D
I
B
D
There
were
business
there
were
businesses
within
the
Community,
but
like
the
wigger
store,
is
a
little
ways
from
the
Bikeway.
The
different
businesses
are
Deming
Park
and
things.
D
Well,
that
was
we
annotated
that
in
the
picture
to
give
people
a
relationship
in
that
photograph
once
again,
once
again,
the
hope
is
to
put
out
more
signs
along
that
Bikeway
to
interpret
more
of
the
history
of
those
neighborhoods
all
together
by
the
Richardson
Park
does
have
a
lot
of
work.
There.
E
Sorry,
just
to
maybe
put
one
idea
to
address
your
point:
the
welcome
to
West
Ashley
Bikeway
message.
Would
there
be
an
opportunity
to
you
know
at
that
point?
Talk
about
the
trail.
The
Bikeway
goes
through
the
historic
town
of
is.
I
I
A
D
Of
what
that
railroad
served
was
produce
cargo
cargo,
the
only
time
it
served
passengers
to
my
understanding
was
when
the
fort
fetterman
took
out
the
Ashley
Bridge.
A
C
And
that's
a
few
extra
words,
but
we
could
trim
a
few
words
from
the
very
first
and
pardon
me
for
proposing
something
that
involves
another
slide.
But
listen
to
this
Mr
chairman
once
linking
the
truck
farmers
of
Saint,
Andrews,
Parish,
so
on
and
so
forth,
and
then
take
out
the
claws
beginning
in
1916..
C
C
I
D
A
Asking
truck
farmers
of
Saint
Andrews
Parish
to
Northern
markets
by
the
seabourne
airline,
railroad,
the
West,
the
West
athlete
Bikeway
is
now
linear,
part
of
for
the
City
of
Charleston
connecting
neighborhoods
once
farmlands,
the
former
town
of
Maryville
schools
and
businesses
by
foot
and
bicycle
enjoy
the
history
and
natural
beauty
of
this
treasured
Community
Asset.
C
And
Mr
chairman
the
date
1916
used
to
be
in
that
sentence
and
I
think
that
answers
a
question
on
another
slide
with
that
aerial
photograph
we
were
wondering
well,
when
did
the
Seabourn
Airline
railroad
begin
and
if,
if
we
put
the
date
1916
in
that
aerial
photograph,
I
think
that
would
help
the
context
of
that
other
slide.
A
lot.
C
C
C
A
I
A
The
very
first,
the
very
first
one
we
we
approved
the
word
nature,
so
we
move
it
back
to
Natural,
Beauty,
okay,
okay,
does
that
affect
right,
so
we
will
wait
for.
D
A
Because
people
have
to
leave,
we
now
is
there
a
motion
to
accept
all
these
texts,
as
amended.
B
A
Any
other
discussion
can,
we
vote,
raise
a
hand
say
aye,
aye
bye.
Thank
you
all
thank.
