A
Winter
feel
decided
to
develop
a
community
garden
when
the
park
and
rec
first
approached
us
and
wanted
to
know
if
we,
as
a
neighborhood,
wanted
to
do
the
garden.
The
neighborhood
in
business
division
came
back
to
us
and
asked
us
if
we
would
write
a
grant.
The
original
grant
was
a
little
over
eight
thousand
dollars,
so
we've
got
that
money
and
we
use
volunteer
work
since
then.
The
city
now
does
not
give
us
any
money,
we're
self-sustaining.
A
It
brings
together
the
community,
the
school,
the
students
on
different
people
from
different
neighborhoods,
since
this
is
a
community
garden.
It's
open
to
anybody
in
Charlotte.
This
garden
brings
the
community
together
because
the
gardener's
come
weekly
and
get
to
meet
each
other.
It's
just
brought
everybody
together
and
just
made
it
a
much
safer
people.
Oh
man,
is
it
smell
good!
Do
my
life?
Oh,
it's.
A
The
students
have
their
plots
and
there's
no
cost
to
them,
because
its
associated
with
the
school
and
to
use
as
a
classroom,
we
have
the
other
plots
that
the
gardener's
will
pay
for
each
plot
and
it's
renewable.
Every
year
the
individual
plots,
the
gardener's
are
responsible
for
their
own
garden
and
they
come
most
of
them.
Come
daily
to
water,
to
lead
to
pick
of
vegetables.
B
We
have
squash
tomatoes,
cucumbers
and,
of
course,
over
I
get
two
and
a
half
to
five
pounds
per
day
and
I
pick
it
every
day.
Last
year
it
was
an
exceptional
year
and
we
picked
200
pounds
of
okra
225
pounds
of
tomatoes,
200
pounds
of
cucumbers
and
228
pounds
of
squash.
We
had
so
much
squash
that
we
were
donating
it
to
meals
on
wheels
because
you
just
you,
can't
eat
that
much
squash.
