Description
CMPD's Homicide Unit provides an update on a recent investigation.
A
Or
any
compliments
behind
us
after
you
to
apologize
in
advance,
we
had
a
couple
of
unfinished
matters
to
address
upstairs
I
appreciate
it
a
good
afternoon
to
everyone.
A
lot
of
you
remembered
that
just
do
it
before
six
o'clock.
On
the
night
of
October
16th
of
this
year,
the
body
of
Jennifer
Banner
was
discovered
near
a
commercial
building
in
the
3100
block
of
Freedom
Drive.
This
61
year
old
woman
was
just
brutally
brutally
murdered
and
I'm
gonna.
Let
captain
Dan's
talk
about
to
what
extent
in
just
a
little
bit
but
to
date
her
killer.
A
As
we
sit
here
today,
he
still
hasn't
been
more.
She
hasn't
been
captured,
despite
an
enormous
amount
of
work.
Monumental
work
that
the
department,
our
violent
crime
folks,
have
undertaken
to
capture
the
attacker
during
the
course
of
the
investigation.
Our
detectives
have
gathered
some
critical
information,
that's
related
to
the
case
in
Captain
Rob
dances
here
this
afternoon
to
discuss
some
of
that
information.
That's
developed
captive,
dance.
B
Thanks
for
coming
out,
we
wanted
to
put
some
information
out
that
it
we
felt
was
critical
in
nature.
We
normally,
as
you
know,
don't
call
press
conferences
this
late
on
Friday,
but
it
is
essentially
we
push
this
information
out
during
the
course
of
the
investigation.
As
all
of
you
know,
miss
banner
was
discovered
October
the
16th
at
the
3100
block
of
Freedom
Drive.
B
Let
me
start
by
saying
that
she
was.
She
was
viciously
murdered,
obviously,
details
about
how
she
was
killed.
We
often
hold
close
because
it's
critical
to
building
a
good
case.
Sometimes
obviously
we
share
as
much
as
we
possibly
can,
but
I
will
tell
you.
It
is
probably
the
worst
case
that
I've
personally
ever
seen
during
the
course
of
the
investigation
detectives,
as
you
know,
try
to
determine
fairly
early
on
a
motive
of
why
somebody
would
have
wanted
to
kill
miss
banner
through
a
motive
oftentimes.
B
They
develop
persons
of
interest
and
suspects
in
the
case,
and
then
they
pursue
each
and
every
lead
that
they
get
today.
They
have
not
yet
found
any
type
of
motive
of
why
somebody
would
have
wanted
to
kill
her
as
a
result,
as
they
process
a
mountain
of
evidence
that
they
have
in
the
case
and
the
lab
works
on
what
they
are
doing.
One
of
the
things
that
they
stop
and
look
at
when
they
can't
determine
a
motive
is
what
kind
of
lifestyle
the
victim
lived.
B
Could
this
lifestyle
have
contributed
in
some
way?
Is
this
how
they
met
the
killer?
Was
the
killer
known
to
them,
and
a
number
of
other
questions?
Miss
banner
has
a
history
in
her
past
of
a
high-risk
lifestyle.
She
has
been
arrested
in
the
past
some
time
ago
for
prostitution,
some
other
narcotics,
related
charges
and
I
would
like
to
to
say
I
think
it's
obvious
to
everyone
in
the
room.
How
do
we
investigate
these
cases
and
regardless
of
what
kind
of
activity
these
victims
are
engaged
in?
No
one
deserves
to
die
like
she
did.
B
No
one,
but
part
of
the
investigation
is
to
look
into
that
because
of
that
lifestyle
detectives
started
to
look
into
whether
or
not
she
was
engaged
in
those
types
of
activities.
As
recent
as
the
time
near
her
death
and
they
are
unable
to
definitively
say,
but
it
is
a
possibility
that
she
was
engaged
in
prostitution
at
the
time
of
her
death
as
a
result,
we
she
could
have
been
targeted.
For
that
very
reason.
B
As
a
result,
the
Chiefs
expectation
of
me
is
that,
at
any
point
in
any
investigation
upstairs,
there
is
a
remote
possibility
that
there
is
a
public
safety
issue
or
concern
that
we
disseminate
the
information
immediately.
Thus,
the
reason
we
call
the
press
conference
today,
we
want
to
make
sure
that
everyone
in
the
community
knows
that
this
person
responsible
for
her
death
is
still
out
there
and
could
very
well
be
targeting
people
who
live
a
similar,
high-risk
lifestyle
involved
in
drugs,
prostitution
and
other
lifestyle
choices
that
you're
aware
of
that
could
put
them
in
a.
B
B
Folks,
I
know
that
our
Special
Investigations
and
our
human
trafficking
vice
and
narcotics
folks
are
working
on
multiple
levels.
Here,
the
biggest
is
trying
to
disseminate
information
to
individuals
that
may
be
engaged
in
this
lifestyle
that
this
person
is
still
out
there
and
what
risk
they
are
putting
themselves
in.
In
the
event
they
choose
to
engage
in
this
kind
of
activity.
B
As
you
know,
the
human
trafficking
folks
they
organization
in
Charlotte
they
it's
government
non-government
folks,
some
in
health
care,
Department
of
Social
Services
Pat's
place
among
many
other
some
local
churches
who
are
passionate
about
that
type
of
work
and
are
helping
us
disseminate
that
information
as
we
speak,
and
on
the
proactive
side
and
the
enforcement
side
we're
doing
operations
in
areas
where
we're
having
problems
with
prostitution
as
well,
and
doing
all
that
we
can
on
that
in
obviously
anytime.
We
have
a
murder
like
this,
where
we
start
to
ask
some
of
these
questions.
B
One
of
the
obvious
questions
that
we
have
is:
could
this
person
be
responsible
for
any
others?
Well
we're
working
with
regional
state,
local
federal,
all
of
our
law
enforcement
partners
and
we're
looking
at
every
single
case
that
we
can
find
to
see.
If,
potentially,
there
is
more
cases
that
we
may
have,
or
this
individual
may
be
related
to
other
cases,
we
have
not
processed
any
evidence
as
of
yet
that
links
this
case
to
any
other
case,
if
we
do,
you
will
probably
be
the
first
to
know
they
are
still
combing
through
the
evidence.
B
There
is
a
lot
of
it
and
they're
working
around
the
clock
to
try
to
work
through
it
and
gather
the
evidence
they
need
to
put
the
person
responsible
for
those
behind
bars.
Everyone
in
here
knows
the
confidence
I
have
in
the
team.
Upstairs
they
are
the
best
and
I
am
very
optimistic
that
the
person
responsible
for
this
murder,
they
will
eventually
find
and
they
will
charge
until
then.
B
B
The
violence
of
it,
the
violence
of
it
I
can't
I,
mean
obviously
I
can't
go
into
detail
about
the
condition
of
her
body
or
the
injuries
that
she
has.
If
I
were
to
give
you
that
information,
it's
just
sensitive
information,
critical
to
the
case
and
I
think
could
possibly
be
linked
to
a
successful
prosecution.
That's
important
to
us
right
now:
the
closure
for
the
banner
family,
finding
justice
for
her
and
putting
this
individual
behind
bars,
building
a
big
case,
so
I'm
not
gonna,
go
into
details.
B
Is
possible?
Glenn
I
will
tell
you
that
if
there
is
a
possibility
of
someone,
that's
responsible
for
multiple
murders,
the
second
that
we
linked
more
than
one
together,
you
will
be
the
first
to
know
I'm
telling
you
we
have
not
uncovered
any
evidence
to
date.
That
links
this
case
to
any
other
one.
But
I
can
tell
you
this.
If
it
is
linked
to
other
cases,
we
will
find
out
they're,
not
leaving
any
stone
unturned.
They're
looking
at
everything
and
the
worst
thing
that
we
could
do
is
hold
on
to
any
potential
information
public
safety
information.
B
B
I
don't
know
if
she
was
targeted
because
of
her
lifestyle.
I,
don't
know
that
I,
don't
know
exactly
what
happened
they're
working
to
uncover
what
happened
that
night
I
don't
know
exactly
why
if
I
did
I
would
probably
not
be
here
right
now,
if
I
knew
exactly
why,
but
we
don't
know,
but
as
they
work
through
the
evidence
and
they
process
things
upstairs
and
they
get
some
of
these
documents
that
they've
sent
off
back
and
they
start
to
look
through.
Some
of
this
information.
B
I
can
tell
you
that
when
we
discovered-
or
we
were
called
to
the
scene
where
the
the
MS
banner
was
discovered,
we
we
don't
think
the
incident
occurred
right
there.
We
think
that
it
did
happen.
Some
other
place
because
of
some
of
the
initial
evidence
that
we
looked
at,
but
I
don't
want
to
go
into
too
much
details
about
what
that
evidence
looks
like
again
they're
working
through
it
and
you
guys
know
me
right,
I'm,
not
the
one.
B
C
B
Gonna
comment
on
the
cause
of
death
or
anything
else
in
the
medical
examiner's
report.
That's
critical
to
the
investigation
right
now,
but
I
think
that
everyone
in
the
room
knows
that
I've
been
in
law
enforcement.
A
long
time,
I've
seen
a
lot
of
homicide
investigations
and
I'm
just
telling
you
that
this
is
was
a
very
brutal
and
vicious
murder
and
and
if
I
could
share
the
specifics
of
the
case
with
you
right
now,
I'd
be
happy
to
as
horrible
as
it
is.
But
it's
evidence
right
now
and
again.
D
B
D
B
B
We're
looking
at
every
single
one
of
those
cases,
I
can
tell
you
30%
of
the
murders
that
we
had
this
year
in
some
way
are
related
to
robbery
or
drugs
or
somewhere
mixed
in
the
historias
prostitution.
So
there's
a
high-risk
lifestyle
involved
in
many
of
our
cases.
Is
there
any
one
case
that
is
left
unsolved
right
now
that
we're
not
looking
at
we're
looking
at
all
of
them,
and
you
guys
know
that
we
do
that.
We
just
stood
up
here
the
other
day
and
talked
about
a
case
that
we
made
an
arrest
of
from
1991.
B
He
or
she
I
don't,
and
for
that
very
reason,
it's
that's
why
we're
putting
it
out
to
the
general
public?
It's
a
possibility
again.
The
Chiefs
expectation
of
me
is
that
when
public
safety
becomes,
you
know
any
kind
of
concern
at
all
in
any
of
these
cases
that
we
stop
what
we're
doing
we
put
that
information
out.
We
want
to
try
to
keep
everyone
safe.
While
we
do
our
work
and
that's
exactly
what
we're
doing
today,.
B
Maybe
stir
it
a
bit
I,
don't
know
how
long
it
was
sitting
out
there.
Couple
more
questions
and.
D
B
I
I
do
not
think
that
that
miss
banner
was
was
killed
at
that
location.
I
feel
like
she
was
dropped
off
there
and
it
happened
some
other
place
as
far
as
how
long
she
was
there
or
the
proximity
to
the
parking
lot
or
to
the
building.
I.
Don't
have
specifics
on
that
3100
block
of
three
at
Freedom
Drive.
C
B
We've
come
across
a
lot
of
vicious
and
brutal
murders.
All
of
them
are
bad
personally.
For
me,
this
is
the
worst
that
I've
saw
and
it's
it's.
She
was
viciously
murdered
and-
and
that's
all
I
can
say
right
now
going
and
we're
working
is
around
the
clock
and
we'll
be
through
the
holidays,
to
try
to
find
the
individual,
responsible
and
I
have
all
the
the
faith
in
my
team
upstairs
and
I'm
gonna
go
back
up
and
support
them
in
any
way
that
I
can
to
locate
this
individual.
A
Don't
remember
that
number
seven,
oh
four,
three,
three,
four
1600
up
to
a
five
thousand
dollar
reward
for
information
leading
to
the
arrest
of
the
individual
individuals
are
responsible
for
Miss
Manners
death.
All
information
that
they
received
through
the
Crimestoppers
tip
line
obviously
kept
anonymous.
They
don't
need
to
know
who
you
are
where
you
are.
A
You
don't
have
to
testify
in
court
forward
that
information,
let
our
detectives
run
that
information
down,
obviously
to
the
captain's
point
anything
that
develops
along
the
way
with
this
case
we'll
be
sure
to
call
all
of
you
together
again
and
get
it
out
there
to
the
community,
appreciate
everyone's
patience
appreciate
everyone's
time.
Thanks.
A
The
investigations
been,
you
know
a
plate
for
a
couple
months
now
and
during
the
course
of
that
investigation,
it
allows
our
detectives
to
gather
more
and
more
information
the
information
that
they
were
starting
to
receive.
Concerning
this
case,
I
gave
them
great
concern,
yeah,
so
much
concern
that
we
felt
it.
We
have
a
responsibility
to
get
help
out
there
and
communicate
that
concern
to
some
of
the
private
or
more
vulnerable
members
of
our
community,
those
that
are
engaged
in
this
kind
of
high
risk
behavior
it'd
be
irresponsible.
Not
to
do
that.
A
So
no,
it
may
be
an
inconvenience
to
some,
and
you
know
others
make.
You
know
scratch
your
head
and
say
you
know
why
all
of
this
full-court
press,
we
have
a
responsibility
to
get
out
there
out
front,
communicate
this
information
to
those
members
of
the
community
and
let
them
take
the
appropriate
measures
they
need
to
take
to
minimize
the
opportunity
to
become
victimized
themselves.
A
It's
quite
a
lengthy,
lengthy
engaged
career
that
captain
Danson.
You
know
he
doesn't
engage
in
the
hyperbole
business
so
for
him
to
express
how
big
of
a
concern
is
just
how
egregious
of
a
incident
this
was.
You
know
you
could
pretty
much
take
that
to
the
bank
that
Rob's
up
that
played
it
straight
with
you,
guys
the
DA
and
see
Rob
dance.
Captain
Violent,
Crimes,
Division,
Charlotte,
Mecklenburg,
Police,
Department
gotta
run
got
to
get
back
up
there.
Everyone
enjoy
the
holiday
right.
