Description
Fire Chief Jon Hannan talks about life at the Charlotte Fire Department and the commitment from staff to serve.
A
My
name
is
John
Hannah
and
I'm.
The
chief
of
the
Charlotte
Fire
Department
I've,
been
with
the
fire
department
37
years.
We
have
eleven
hundred
and
sixty-seven
employees,
most
of
them
about
a
thousand
50
are
uniformed
firefighters
and
they're
assigned
to
the
fire
trucks,
there's
always
256
at
work.
Every
second
of
every
day,
every
day
of
the
year
we
have
36
inspectors
that
are
doing
about
40,000
inspections
a
year
in
businesses
to
make
sure
when
you
you
go
to
the
movies
or
your
family
goes
to
the
grocery
store
store,
they're
safe.
A
When
they
do
it,
we
have
39
dispatchers.
We
want
to
answer
that
telephone
very
quickly.
If,
if
someone's
trapped
in
a
house,
that's
on
fire,
if
their
heart
stopped,
we
have
about
five
minutes
to
make
a
difference.
So
it
really
matters
how
long
it
takes
us
to
process
the
call
and
get
the
wheels
on
those
trucks.
A
We
now
run
a
save
rate
where
people
actually
walk
out
of
the
hospital
and
are
fully
functional
of
around
50
percent,
and
a
lot
of
this
fell
to
the
fire
department
and
how
we
handled
the
first
few
minutes.
With
that
person.
We
understand.
Community
Safety
is
one
of
City
Council's
top
priorities,
and
we
support
that
by
giving
them
one
of
the
best
fire
departments
in
the
u.s.
by
every
measurable
standard
out
there.
Whatever
we
do,
we
strive
to
be
the
best
at
it
and
we
will
need
help
in
the
future.
