Want to give back to your community in a free, easy way, here's a step-by-step guide of how you can use city resources to organize your own cleanup.

First determine a location for your cleanup: it can be any accessible street within the city, from your neighborhood block to albermarle road cleanups on limited access, roads like I-277 and independence are conducted by the north carolina department of transportation and usually off-limits to volunteers.

If you'd, like a suggestion for what street to clean, keep charlotte, beautiful and solid waste services have a list of priority streets, you can choose from.

The form will ask for your contact information, number of supplies needed and preferred time and date to pick up supplies. Please submit a request at least three to four days before your cleanup, so that we can ensure we have enough supplies available for your group.

The city's solid waste services department can pick up bags after your cleanup leave them in between the street and the sidewalk, but not in an area that restricts pedestrian or vehicular traffic and call 311 between 8 am and 5 pm monday through friday, following the event be sure to give the 311 operator as approximate an address as possible to where you left the bags and mention that, as part of an adopt-a-street cleanup adopt a pickup is the abbreviated work order they put in to distinguish city and county cleanups from normal residential bulk item collections.
