From YouTube: Bye, Bye Worms
Description
Tree banding stops the dreaded cankerworm in its tracks. Learn how you can help.
A
It's
that
time
of
year
and
ghosts
and
goblins
won't
be
the
only
scary
things
you'll
be
contending
with,
in
fact,
there's
one,
especially
nasty
creature
that
will
soon
be
emerging
from
its
underground
lair.
Yes,
it's
the
dreaded
cankerworm
and
is
here
to
eat
your
trees,
not
to
worry
with
a
little
know-how.
A
You
can
stick
it
to
those
little
nibblers
or
should
I
say
canker
worms,
stick
them
to
it,
yes,
to
the
tanglefoot
glue
that
you
smear
onto
a
band
of
roofing,
felt
or
other
material
that
you
wrap
around
the
trunk
of
a
tree
that
you
want
to
protect
it's
an
easy,
albeit
messy
job,
but
well
worth
the
effort
you
see.
Cankerworm
mamas
will
soon
crawl
out
of
the
ground
and
want
to
climb
your
trees
to
lay
eggs
up
near
the
top
branches,
and
this
spring
their
young
hatchlings
will
gorge
themselves
on
the
trees.
A
Fresh
new
leaves
leaving
you
nothing,
but
bare
branches
and
trees
in
trouble.
Canker
worms
have
already
affected
nearly
75,000
acres,
that's
114
square
miles
by
the
way
of
Charlotte's
wonderfully
wooded
landscape,
and
they
won't
stop
there.
If
we
don't
nip
them
in
the
bud,
you
can
find
everything
you
need
at
pretty
much
any
hardware
store
or
garden
shop.
