CBC
Chelsea
black
community.
We
are
going

start
off
as
we
do
every
year
with
lift
every
voice
and
sing.
So
if
we

everyone's

to
introduce
an
amazing
young
woman
that
has
worked
as
a
youth
Ambassador
for
CBC
and
I
love.
Her

love
everything
about
her.
What
she
carries,

she

she
speaks,
how
she
carries
herself
and
her
message
and
life
at
a
very
young
age
and
I,
know
she's
going
to
go
very
very
far,
but
I
wanted
her
to
have
the
honor
and
the
privilege
of

what
the
theme
of
Black
History
Month
2023
is,
and
it's
usually
a
national
theme
and
that's
black
resistant
and
recognizing
the
ways
in
which
black
people
have
resisted
oppression,
discrimination
and
Prejudice
throughout
history.
So
we
put
boards
together
outside
that
has
all
types
of
information,
and
it's
not
black
history.
It's
American
history,
it's
one
history!
So
that's
what
we
left.
That's
what
we
reflect
here
today
as
Community
our
history,
so
just
welcome
all
of
you
and
we
had
an
amazing
month.

had

live
performance
of
be
heard
on
sweet
talk
at
the
high
school
and
it
was
a
presentation
and
performance
with
singing
and
Artistry
and
dance
on
racism,
and
it
was
very
few
words
but
the
whole
audience
if
I
take
probably
a
hundred
plus
understood
exactly
what
the
performance
tried
to
portray.
So
that
was
great.
We
also
had
he
ever
sing
her
song,
and
that
was
incredible
on
zoom
and
it
was
through
a
young
it
up
and
coming
director
Naji
out
of
the
Multicultural.

businessmen
and
all
the
great
people

do
things
every
day

without
blinking
their
eyes,

just
appreciate
all

recognize

celebrate

them

all

that
the
names

honored

who

Chelsea

amazing
work

necessarily
out

front

everybody

the
work
behind
the
scenes
as

sure

community
runs
smoothly,

people

they

very

place
in

parents,
mayor

Rose

mom
grew
up
on
Essex
Street.

sugar
school
is
where
she
went

elementary

High
School

tell
you
what
year
you

be
mad
at

year,
but
it
is
an
amazing
place.

always
love
coming
back
to
Chelsea
because
of
home
to
me.

my
family
started
in
the
Chelsea.

that
we're

the
rich
black
history
in
this
community
that,

we
don't
keep
talking
about,

be
forgotten
and
the
Chelsea
White
Community
doesn't
let
that

has
all
the
good
things
that
happened

past

make
sure
that
our
children
and
our
grandchildren
know
the
rich
history
that
the
CBC
has
been
promoting
in
this
community.

Chelsea

fact

last

high
school

helped

signature
night

Latin
exclusion,
night
student
groups

black
students

student
group,
we
had
us
our
first
meeting.
We
had
about
30
students
and
one
of
my
students
said:

yes,

I,
believe
it's
kind
of
leadership
and,
as
the
students
begin
to
share
their
Heritage,
they
were
blocking
Honduras.
They
were
black
and
Puerto
Rican.

afro-latino

it
was
just
so
beautiful
and
I
was
actually
the
only
African-American
in
the
circle
and
I
was
taking
it
back
by
them
like
this
is
the
beauty
of
what
Chelsea
is.

the
richness
of
this
community
that
I'm
so
fortunate
to
be
a
part
of

history

has
been
created
since
1926
for

the
association
for
the
study
of
African-American
life
and
history.

organization
is
still
in
existence

violence,

advanced
the
humanity
of
themselves

others
in
America,
despite
systematic
oppression,

Civil
Rights
era
was
defined
by

strikes

space
to
organize
resistant
efforts

participation

offer
sanctuaries
and
calamities.
Black
medical
professors
have
established
nursing
schools,
Hospitals
and
Clinics
in
order
to
provide
space
for
black
people
to
get
Quality.
Health
Care
black
entrepreneurs
have
established
business
for
economic
and
financial
Independence.

Black
men
and
women
in
the
face
of
injustices
have
formed
labor
unions
based
on
trades
and
occupations
such
as
the
colored
National
Labor,
Union
musicians,
Club
Coalition
of
black
trade
unions
and
the
Negro
American
accountancy
black
Educators
I
stand
a
great
traditional
black
educator
from
elementary
to
higher
education,
have
resisted
The
Narrative
that
black
people
are
intellectually
inferior.
Black
spirituals,
black
gospel,
folk,
music,
hip-hop
and
rap
have
been
used
still.

Express
struggle
hope,
Joy,
Faith
solidarity
in
the
face
of
injustices,
black
artists,
writers,
photographers
and
musicians

the
Black
Arts
Movement
in
the
Harlem
Renaissance

path

something
crazy

radical,
but

of
the
normal
rest
or

day

rest

for
many
of
us
is
that
we
don't
know
how
to
rest

to
connect
our
mind
and
body.
Why
do
we
need
to
rest
and
night
in

reported

somewhat
extremely
burned
out
and

black
adults
reported
having
short
sleep,

hours

of

was
correlated
to
heart
disease,
diabetes,

blood
pressure,

Stacy

paved

path

Stacy

historian

birth,
a
historian
that
she's
always
trying
to
go
over
pages
and
picking
up
stones
and
looking

history
and
black
culture

black
history
here
in
our
community
and
what
that
means.
From
from
the
Chelsea
fire
of
1973
to
1908,
to
the
black
church,
to
the
streets
where
folks,
black
folks
used
to
live
in
the
city
that
are
no
longer
there.
So
Stacy's
remarkable
and
her
journey
is
just
beginning.
I
Yet
she
still
finds
the
time
to
be
a
voluntary
Advocate
and
seek
out
services
in
her
community.
Her
determination,
drive
and
inclusiveness
fairness,
transparency
and
accountability
is
her
guiding
force.
Stacy's
will
to
make
a
difference
in
her
call
to
Services,
helps
breaking
down
barriers
and
creating
Bridges
to
access
for
the
well-being
residents
in
Chelsea.
She
has
assisted
individuals
to
sustain
suitable
housing
and
have
basic
needs
met
with
strong
interests
and
advocacy
experiences
with
individuals
facing
homelessness.

Stacy
is
able
to
articulate
articulate
in
the
impact
of
mental
health,
substance
abuse
and
socioeconomic
instability
on
tackling
issues
related
to
homelessness.

Chelsea,
Stacy

prepares
home-cooked
meals
for
her
regular
basis,
neighbors,
including
the
local
veterans
on
the

on

the

human
services
director

instrumental
in
the
planning
and
economic
development
in
Chelsea
for
over
20
years.
His
planning
skills
help
the
city,
expand
its
urban
renewal
efforts
and
slow.
The
airport
efforts
to
turn
our
waterfronts
into
Airport
parking
net
has
twice
stepped
in
to
be
in
interim
city
manager
to
help
the
city
through
its
transition.

it
in
2015,
when

Tom

say
that
that

truly
one
of
the
best
people
in
city
hall,

everybody
in
this

one

another

person
that
you

always
working
and
he's

humble

never
wants

take
any
accolades

city

director
right

Our
acting
city
manager,
that
Keith

also

supervisor

a
friend,
Ned
Keith
began
again
I'm,
going

reiterate

but
he's
been
in
30
years.
He
has
been
working
in
the
department
of
planning
and
development
and
Rose
to
the
director
and
in
years
to
follow.
Ned
was
appointed
Deputy
city
manager
and
held
that
position
over
a
decade
and
worked
closely
with
two
city
managers
who
greatly
valued
his
opinion
and
sought
his
advice.

managers
departed,
Ned,
stepped
up
twice
and
currently
he's
right
now
he's
the
acting
city
manager
during
the
searches
for
a
new
leader.
Netkeep
has
dedicated
his
life's
work
to
public
service
in
Chelsea,

the
city

better
place
to
live
for
its
real

its
residents.

has
directly
and
indirectly
been
involved
in
hundreds

hundreds
of
projects
and
initiatives
that
have
improved
the
lives
of
people

Chelsea
and
approved
the
stature
of
Chelsea

well-managed
city

region

his

wanted
to
know
what
would
have
happened

me

I

in
America
on
that
day,
and
that
was
a
Sunday.

on
the

stars

strike
blues
music
and
I
went
running
to
see
what
would
have
happened
to
me.
Our
parents,
a
lot
of
the
groceries,
it's
a
military
payday
by
the
way

waiting
and
I
look
at
the
front
page
and
I
literally
blanked
out.

to
find
in
school,

I'm

citizen,

Chelsea
