From YouTube: School Committee Meeting 1-7-21
Description
City of Chelsea
via Zoom and Chelsea Community TV
A
Seven
o'clock:
I
am
calling
this
meeting
to
order
hello
and
good
evening
for
those
of
you
watching
at
home.
A
I
will
like
to
ask
for
a
roll
call
for
attendance
veronica,
and
then
I
will
ask
the
school
board
members
and
all
members
on
the
call
to
remain
silent
for
one
minute.
While
our
tech
team
ensures
that
the
facebook
live
video
is
up
to
date.
Our
translation
services
are
readily
available
and
ready
to
begin
for
tonight.
B
D
D
E
A
E
F
Sure
my
name
is
lamia,
I'm
a
senior
at
chelsea
high
school,
I'm
also
in
nhs
and
student
government,
and
I'm
really.
I
went
to
a
few
budget
meetings
like
last
year
and
it
was
very
interesting
to
see
how
it
all
played
out
and
I
wanted
to
get
more
involved
in
the
like
school
board
and
just
seeing
what
went
on
so.
I'm
thankful
to
be
here.
A
Not
on
video
yeah,
welcome,
lamia
and
welcome
richard
welcome.
Welcome
I'm
assuming
we're
ready
to
go
richard.
Do
you
want
to
take
a
quick
second
to
introduce
yourself
as
well
again.
G
Yes,
hi
everyone,
I'm
rich
flores,
I'm
also
a
senior
at
chelsea
high
school.
I
am
president
at
national
arts
society
and
also
the
vice
president
for
our
student
council
and
I've
also
attended
a
few
meetings
and
for
the
budget
last
year
and
as
well.
I
just
I'm
glad
to
be
here
to
know
to
have
our
student
voice
and
be
heard.
D
Richard
also
had
some
big
news
recently,
I
don't
know
if
you,
if
you
want
to
share
that
big
college
acceptance,
you
got.
G
H
G
A
Alrighty
team,
I
think
we're
ready
to
begin
happy
thursday,
happy
here
happy
new
year.
We
are
officially
live
on
facebook.
I
hope
everyone
can
see
us
from
home
and
thank
you
for
joining
us
today
on
the
7th
of
january
before
before,
moving
on
I'd
like
to
start
with
our
pledge
of
allegiance.
So
if
the
team
members
can
admit
themselves
and
join
me,
as
we
say,
our
pledge
of
allegiance,
I
pledge.
J
A
All
righty,
okay
before
before
beginning
I'd
like
to,
if
there
aren't
any
objections,
speak
from
the
chair
and
just
acknowledge
yesterday's
events
and
share
that
you
know
in
these
moments
of
uncertainty
and
unknowns.
A
It
is
it
is,
you
know
the
support
of
richard
and
lamia
being
here
and
hearing
their
voices
and
successes
that
help
me
find
hope
in
these
times,
and
so
just
wanted
to
name
it
it's
a
really
difficult
time,
and
so,
wherever
you
are
at
this
time,
thank
you
for
being
here.
Thank
you
for
joining
us.
A
If
you
are
up
to
it
and
and
are
not
feeling
too
well,
feel
free
to
take
your
screen
off
and
just
be
a
listening
ear
for
today's
meeting,
all
righty
without
further
ado.
Let's
continue
with
our
meeting.
Do
I
have
a
motion
to
accept
our
school
committee
minutes
from
december
3rd
meetings.
A
K
Good
evening,
and
can
everyone
hear
me,
okay,
okay,
in
lieu
of
a
presentation,
and
we
just
have
so
much
going
on
in
our
nation
right
now?
I
have
prepared
a
statement.
I
sent
an
initial
statement
earlier
yesterday
when
things
were.
Events
were
unfolding
in
our
nation's
capital,
and
I
have
another
statement
that
I
would
like
to
read
so
dear
chelsea
public
school
community.
The
events
that
unfolded
yesterday
in
our
nation's
capital
have
left
us
sad,
numb
and
deeply
concerned.
K
K
We
should
use
this
opportunity
as
a
teachable
moment,
to
have
conversations
with
our
students
about
the
democratic
process,
how
we
can
resolve
differences
in
conflicts
and
how
we
can
address
diverse
and
sometimes
conflicting
ideology.
We
must
teach
our
students
that
we
can
disagree
without
disliking
and
harming
others.
K
There
is
no
place
for
violence
or
hatred
in
our
community.
We
must
ensure
that
students
feel
safe
by
providing
respectful
learning
communities
where
we
value
our
diversity.
We
need
to
remember
our
culture
of
care
and
love
as
we
continue
our
vital
work.
We
will
stay
focused
on
our
core
mission
of
we
welcome
and
educate
all
in
the
chelsea
public
schools.
K
K
K
Now,
I'd
like
to
have
assistant
superintendent,
sarah
kent
share
our
achievement.
Data.
L
M
You
everybody
see
that
okay,
all
right
so
this
evening,
I'm
just
doing
the
the
usual
indicators
of
success
this
this
month
we
have
monthly
indicators,
quarterly
indicators,
as
well
as
our
mobility
and
grades.
M
So
if
we
start
on
page
three,
I'm
sorry
if
I'm
making
anybody
seasick
by
moving
this,
but
we
still
are
having
glitches
with
our
aspen
program.
I
really
worked
hard
to
try
to
have
this
for
you
tonight.
I
promise
it
will
be
next
month
we
will
have
the
attendance
we
are
taking
attendance.
We
have
all
the
data.
The
report
that
we
need
is
just
not
functioning
properly.
M
Moving
to
page
four
you'll
see
that
we
have
indicator
four,
which
is
around
our
grade
four
students,
and
you
can
see
that
our
quarter
one
grades
are
here.
This
is
compared
this
column.
Here
is
what
the
year
ended,
which
was
march
last
year,
and
in
the
comparison
you
will
see
that
they
are
a
bit
lower.
M
We
do
usually
start
a
bit
lower
in
first
quarter,
however,
especially
in
reading
and
writing.
This
is
an
area
that
we
are
focusing
on.
I
will
say
that
a
three
or
better
means
that
that
is
a.
There
are
four
grades
in
elementary
school,
so
kids,
who
there
are
a
lot
of
twos,
I
will
say
we
also
have
a
lot
of
programs
that
are
being
put
in
place
to
support
the
literacy
instruction
of
our
elementary
students
right
now
indicator.
5
is
grade.
N
M
M
On
page
six,
I
have
good
news
to
report
that
we
had
no
dropouts
in
december
in
our
on
our
books,
so
our
dropout
rate
for
this
year
is
looking
much
better.
This
is
compared
to
the
same
time
last
year
or
years
prior,
so
you
can
see
that
our
dropout
rate
at
1.16
is
quite
a
bit
lower
than
it
was
last
year
at
this
time,
and
these
numbers
down
here
in
the
bottom
table
are
the
same
as
they
were
last
month,
as
we
had
no
additional
dropouts.
M
Sorry
to
mobility:
we
also
did
not
have
a
ton
of
movement
in
december
and
you
will
see
over
here
in
total,
we've
had
680
kids
move
in
or
out
of
the
district
throughout
the
year.
So
far,
that's
about
100,
less
kids
moving
around
than
we
had
last
year
at
this
time,
and
we
had
56
kids
either
come
or
go
in
december,
that's
about
35
less
than
last
year
and
our
mobility
rate,
therefore,
which
is
this
little?
I
don't
know
if
you
can
see,
but
this
little
number
down
here.
M
M
We
are
working
hard
and
the
high
school
has
a
lot
of
things
in
place
in
order
to
address
this,
it's
still
early
in
the
year.
This
is
the
first
time
that
we've
given
grades
in
the
remote
world
and
we
are
adjusting
and
have
lots
of
things
in
place
and
a
lot
of
time
still
in
the
year
to
catch
up
and
make
that
work.
J
Yes,
miss
cat.
I
have
a
question.
So
can
you
explain
to
us
as
far
as
the
grading,
because
I
know
it's
hard,
especially
remote,
so
how
are
the
students
getting
tested?
Are
they
turning
in
homework?
So
what
is
being
used
to
generate
these
grades
for
sure.
M
So,
throughout
the
district,
we're
using
obviously
various
things,
but
we
have
been
used
doing
tests
testing
is
occurring.
Of
course
it
looks
different
and
it
feels
different
than
in
the
past.
It's
not
like
your
whole
classroom
goes
quiet
and
everybody.
You
know
everybody
takes
a
test,
but
it
is.
We
are
collecting
student
work.
Grading
student
work,
kids
are
completing
assignments
at
the
high
school
performance.
Assessments
are
still
occurring
and
receiving
grades.
M
J
Thank
you.
I
have
another
question
so
thinking
about
this,
the
synchronous
learning
in
asynchronous
learning.
Do
you
think
their
independent
learning
is
working
well
or
should
they
be
because
I've
heard
feedback
from
parents
and
they
feel
better
when
the
student
is
work
not
working
independently,
where
they're
more
engaged
with
the
teachers?
Have
you
heard
any
thing
like
that
from
parents
or
teachers
that
they're
hearing
from
the
parents
sure.
M
There's
a
balance,
of
course,
between
zoom
time
and
engagement
right.
So
in
this
the
asynchronous
time,
meaning
time
that
kids
are
not
live
with.
A
teacher
has
been
difficult
in
the
middle
and
high
schools
to
ensure
engagement
and
completion
of
work.
D
Mr
ximenez,
I'm
curious
so
about
attendance
and
how
it
impacts
the
the
grades
component,
because
I
you
know
my
understanding
is
that
if
students
miss
a
certain
number
of
classes,
they
automatically
get
a
failing
grade.
I'm
curious
like,
if
is
the
increase
in
lower,
you
know,
failing
grades.
Does
that
have
to
do
at
all
with
with
that?
How
that
policy
is
is
working
and
and
as
it's
changing
with
the
with
the
deci
requirements
and
all
that.
M
So
attendance
and
grades
are
only
linked
at
the
high
school
everywhere
else.
Attendance
I
mean
we
do
our
diligence
to
get
kids
to
attend.
Don't
get
me
wrong,
but
it's
only
tied
to
grades
at
the
high
school.
However,
in
first
quarter
we
did
suspend
that
policy.
We
were
having
a
lot
of
issues
with
kids
saying
you
know.
I
had
internet
issues.
I
I.
M
We
didn't,
we
couldn't
judge
what
was
real
and
not
real.
So
we
gave
grace,
and
so
these
grades
are
not
reflective
of.
M
D
C
Thanks
again
for
the
presentation,
as
always,
I
just
know
that,
like
in
the
last
meeting
we
were
asking
about,
you
know
the
attendance
report
and-
and
I
know
clearly
what
you
said-
it's
you're
trying
to
do
the
best.
I'm
sorry,
it's
totally
totally.
I
know
if
it
was
ready.
You'd
you'd
have
it
here.
C
C
Of
course
I
got
one,
but
it
also
talked
about
like
really
looking
at
how
the
district
is
doing
and
so
really
great
to
see
that
dusty's
actually
taking
this
leap
to
do
that,
but
also
really
feeling
frustrated
with
dusty
and
in
a
lot
of
ways
that
I
won't
list
here
right
now,
but
you
know
ultimately,
you
know,
I
would
just
say
like
there's
a
part
of
me:
that's
like
how
are
we
gonna
measure
success
and
give
some
comfort
to
parents
when
they're
asking
like
these
are
some
of
the
things
that
were
brought
up
earlier
on?
C
How
can
we
guarantee
that
where
the
attendance
is
as
best
as
possible,
given
the
circumstances
and
also
like
their
progress,
or
also
you
know,
whenever
that
information
is
available?
If
you
could,
you
know,
send
it
to
us
or
prior
to
a
meeting
that
would
be
great
so
that
we
can,
you
know,
yeah,
be
able
to
to
get
a
better
sense
of
like
how
virtual
learning
is
happening
and
how
you
know
what
supports
the
students
might
need,
if
that's
a
challenge
for
them.
Yeah.
M
M
C
P
Thank
you,
mrs
kent.
I'm
looking
at
your
report
and
it's
talking
about
it's
showing
numbers
are
dropping
for
two
and
four
year:
college
kids,
going
to
college
for
two
or
four
years
as
well
as
it's
a
change
in
students
going
directly
into
the
workforce.
P
L
P
P
Does
the
suit
does
the
essay
does
the
chelsea
high
school
have
anything
in
place
to
help
these
numbers
change,
to
have
the
students
consider
going
to
college
or
instead
of
having
the
numbers
drop
and
see
the
numbers
have
been
dropping
over
the
past
few
years,
and
I
understand
with
the
well
I
can
see
I
should
say
the
students
going
directly
to
the
workforce
because
of
the
economy
that
we're
in
right
now.
M
So
we've
been
working
very
hard
in
our
very
you
know
very
acclaimed,
early
college
process,
and
we
have
also
the
city,
I
think
you
know,
has
been
extremely
generous
in
offering
scholarships
to
some
of
our
early
college
students
to
continue
their
education
once
they
leave
chelsea
high.
M
It's
a
really
a
wonderful
opportunity
for
lots
of
our
students.
Obviously
we
also
have
several
other
programs
in
place
with
the
counselors
at
the
high
school
have
been
working
hard.
We
have
a
new
my
cap
program
at
the
high
school,
which
is
helping
students
to
see
their
progress
and
see
their
opportunities.
M
We
will
be
doing
psats
later
this
month.
Obviously
it
will
be
a
volunteer
voluntary
opportunity
for
10th
graders,
but
we've
found
that
that
is
a
real
link
to
kids.
M
Once
you
take
the
psat
you're
on
the
mailing
list
of
like
a
million
different
schools
and
you
you
get
flooded
with
opportunity
and
and
flyers
and
all
kinds
of
things,
so
we
are
actively
pursuing
that
and
of
course,
as
you
know,
because
I
know
I
saw
you
at
graduation,
we
give
out
time
we
work
really
hard
on
helping
the
finances
of
students
to
attend
these
universities
because
it's
very
expensive.
So
there's
also
a
very
active
push
to
support
scholarship
and
opportunity.
P
Are
we
still
having
the
program,
a
relationship
with
bunk
hill
community
college
as
well?
Yes,.
M
C
This
is
like
not
new
to
a
lot
of
us,
but
this
is
why
we're
really
strongly
advocating
that
they
suspend
the
mcas,
because
it
just
doesn't
seem
fair
that
at
this
time,
given
all
the
constraints
that
students
are
having
in
terms
of
different
learning
styles,
as
well
and
in
the
challenges
that
a
lot
of
students
are
meeting,
it
doesn't
make
sense
for
the
state
to
continue
to
push
these
mcas
tests
and
especially
where,
right
now
we
are
still
depending
on
soa,
and
you
know,
needless
to
say,
when
we
get
into
the
new
budget
session
all
the
things
before
us.
C
So
I
just
really
want
to
echo
this
that
you
know
we
have
to
keep
tabs
on
following
what's
happening
with
the
m
cast
test
and,
of
course,
engaging
with
parents
around
this
conversation.
I
personally
also
with
my
daughter,
like
I've,
shared
we're
talking.
You
know
mcas
prep
and
my
daughter
is
you
know
this
is
not
a
new
subject,
but
this
is
for
our
special
education
students.
You
know
the
teachers
are
doing
great.
I've
had
great
meetings.
Great
communication,
but
what
does
this
mean
for
the
district?
C
What
does
it
mean
for
our
students
right
now?
So
we've
got
to
keep
talking
about
that,
and
I
know
that
there's
conversations
happening
across
the
state,
so
I
think
we
need
to
take
another
another
look
there
and
just
urge
the
legislature.
You
know
both
for
mcas
and
soa
that
are
opportunities
to
continue
to
support
our
students.
D
Can
I
just
quickly
add
to
that
yeah?
I
just
want
to
echo.
You
know
just
second
everything
that
miss
santiago
just
said,
and
I
just
want
to
remind
folks
that
you
know
in
the
meeting,
but
also
folks,
watching
at
home
that
a
couple
months
ago
we
did
pass
a
resolution
asking
for
a
moratorium
in
mcas
and
that's
something
that
you
know
I
I've
been
advocating.
D
You
know,
for
you
know,
with
organizations
outside
of
chelsea,
making
sure
that
we
are
building
towards
a
moratorium,
at
least
for
this
year,
but
if
you
know
hopefully
longer
as
well
and
really
thinking
about
the
the
assessment
and
accountability
system
that
we
have
that
really
just
punishes
students
who
attend
schools
like
in
chelsea,
where
you
know
we're
doing
the
best
that
we
can,
but
we
only
have
so
much
money
going
around
and
and
we
need
that
funding
like
santiago
said
from
the
student
opportunity
act
right.
D
So
so
we
really
want
to
make
sure
that
the
the
assessment
system
that
we
have
for
our
district
and
for
our
educators
isn't
based
on
a
test
that
we
know
to
be
flawed.
So
it's
definitely
something
that
we're
continuing
to
work
on,
and
you
know
I
just
want
to
thank
everyone
in
the
committee
who,
who
you
know
supported
that
resolution
and
is
you
know
helping
to
support
these
efforts
because
it
is
really
important.
D
We
want
to
make
sure
that
we're
telling
our
students,
you
know
right
that
that
our
schools
are,
you
know,
helping
them
succeed
and
then
that
we
can
do
so.
We
just
need
the
resources
right
and
we
we
shouldn't,
have
a
system
that
is
constantly
telling
them
that
their
schools
are
not
good
enough,
because
we
know
that
that's
not
the
reality
here.
A
I'd
like
to
take
this
moment
to
applaud
roberto
jimenez
for
his
consistent
advocacy,
his
letters
so
roberto.
Thank
you
so
much
for
constantly
being
an
advocate
for
our
students
miss
kent.
If
you
don't
mind,
I
have
a
few
questions
on
page
10.
A
A
A
Okay
back
to
page
10.,
ms
kent,
you
mentioned
that
the
high
school
team
you
know
when
looking
at
this
data
has
come
up
with
a
couple
intervention
plans.
Do
you
mind
explaining
what
or
sharing
a
few
examples
of
those
intervention
plans?
I.
A
M
Was
ready
sure
so
the
I
mean
as
you've
seen
and
I'm
sure,
you've
read
you
know,
failing
failing
grades
is
an
issue
in
chelsea,
obviously,
and
we're
taking
it
really
to
heart,
but
it's
also
throughout
the
country
right
now
with
the
with
the
change
just
the
change
in
education
right
now.
M
But
let
me
tell
you
about
a
few
of
the
things
that
the
high
school
is
doing,
so
we
just
had
two
professional
development
days
on
monday
and
tuesday
and
during
that
time,
at
the
high
school
they
really
spent
some
time
looking
at
data
thinking
about
how
their
grade
books
reflect
mastery
and
learning
and
they
also
set
up
focus
groups.
So
teachers
are
are
setting
up
focus
groups
to
have
conversations
with
students
about
why.
Why
is
this
difficult?
What
what
is
not
working
for
you?
M
How
can
we
meet
your
needs
better
and
just
getting
you
know,
making
those
relationships
and
I've
gotta
sort
of
shout
out
that
that's
that's
a
an
offshoot
too,
from
all
of
the
trust
visits
and
all
of
the
family
work
that
has
been
happening.
You
know
since
since
the
pandemic
started,
especially
since
this
this
august,
so
teachers
are
actively
creating
some
focus
groups
with
kids
to
learn
more
about.
How
do
we
meet
your
needs?
What
it?
What
is
missing?
M
How
do
we
help
you?
You
know
I
had
one
anecdotal
story
in
prep
for
the
meetings
day.
M
One
of
our
teachers-
actually,
you
know,
sat
down
with
a
group
of
of
his
students
and
said
you
know,
what's
happening,
figured
out
that
a
lot
of
what
was
happening
was
language
barrier,
around
directions
and
and
what
was
expected,
etc,
and
once
he
had
that
focus
group
with
the
kids,
he
gave
them
alternative
assignments
to
sort
of
make
up
their
work
or
or
prove
to
him
that
they
had
mastered
what
he
was
asking
of
them
and
he's
now
going
to
go
back
and
change
their
grades
based
on
based
on
this.
M
So
this
connection
and
conversation
with
students
also
reaching
out
to
families
and
having
more
conversations
so
one
of
the
things
that
their
research
showed
is
that
teachers
weren't
posting
enough
grades
along
the
way,
so
that
parents
could
see
them
in
aspen
and
know
how
their
kids
were
doing
and
they
heard
that
from
parents
and
and
from
kids
they
are
actively
working
to
make
sure
that
grades
are
posted
on
a
regular
basis.
M
So
the
kids
know
where
they
stand
and
similarly
we
have
the
sel
block
or,
what's
you
know,
used
to
be
called
ibloc
and
they're
instituting
a
call.
You
know
a
practice
where
teachers
in
that
small
group
once
a
week
will
look
at
kids
grades
with
them
and
say:
hey,
look,
you
know.
How
are
you
doing
here?
How
you
doing
there?
Hey
that's
getting
better.
You
know:
hey
you're,
missing
some
stuff
here,
just
some
mentoring
and
some
some
awareness
action
with.
E
Kids,
sarah,
it's
rosemary
is
there
any
way
of
doing
a
questionnaire
that
we
could
see
what
the
students
are
feeling
about,
the
zooming
and
all
the
stuff
they're
going
through.
I
know
it's
a
difficult
time
for
the
students
and
the
teachers,
but
I'd
like
to
see
something
that
tells
me
what
we
need
to
do
better
for
them
in
the
zooming
process.
E
Is
there
any
way
we
can
do
it
as
a
school
committee
members
to
find
out
more
information?
I
know
the
teachers
are
doing
something,
but,
as
members
of
the
school
committee,
I
think
we
should
be
able
to
see
what
we
can
do
better
to
make
sure
these
kids
are
getting
a
proper
education,
because
I
talk
to
some
parents
and
they're
not
happy.
I
talk
to
some
parents
that
depends
on
the
children
really,
but
and
the
parents
helping
them
is
a
hard
thing
for
them
to
do.
K
I
know
right
now
we're
working
on
surveys,
and
so
we
have
a
survey
going
out
because
we
do
want
to
learn
from
our
people
from
our
families
and
our
students.
You
know
how
is
remote
learning
going
for
you.
What
are
the
challenges?
What
are
the
successes,
and
so
we
do.
We
are
preparing
a
survey
and
we
will
administer
one
mid
january,
so
it
is
ready
to
go
it's
pretty.
K
We
kept
it
simple,
because
we
we
know
that
if
it's
simple
people
will
fill
it
out,
and
so
we
just
want
to
get
a
good,
a
pulse
of
how.
How
are
we
doing
with
remote
learning
so
we're
looking
forward
to
that
information?
K
E
K
C
C
Thank
you
miss
ken
for
taking
all
our
questions
today.
I
I
really
just
again
back
to
the
report
on
noticing
our
concerns
around
students
that
are
dropping
out
and
specifically
in
the
high
school
and
then
thinking
about
all
these
other
things
that
we're
talking
about.
I
just
really
want
to
bring
back
the
importance
for
all
of
us
just
to
note
that
the
percentage
that
go
off
to
trade
school
is
so
low
and
that
just
doesn't
make
sense
to
me.
This
is
not
a
conversation.
C
I
think
we
need
to
get
into
right
now,
because
clearly,
it's
more
information,
but
you
know
thinking
about
our
relationship
with
the
northeast
vocational
school
and
I've
asked
a
couple
of
questions
about
that
in
the
past
and
thinking
about
the
future
in
our
long
term.
You
know,
there's
just
continues
to
be
a
big
gap
here
for
our
students,
and
I
don't
know
if
that's
a
question
around
agreements
with
northeast.
C
Whether
those
are
you
know
pretty
lengthy
a
long
time
ago,
they
need
to
be
looked
at
again,
but
it's
something
that
I
keep
watching
and
it
pains
me
as
somebody
who
long
time
resident
of
chelsea
went
to
northeast
and
also
when
I
moved
to
the
north
shore
for
eight
years.
You
know
seeing
the
way
students
you
know,
having
the
vote
and
having
access
to
a
trade
school
and
how
beneficial
that's
been
for
the
community.
C
So
I
just
really
want
us
to
note
that
and
sort
of
hold
that
a
little
bit
when
those
conversations
continue
it's
something
to
keep
looking
at,
and
it's
also
like,
maybe
something
to
revisit
you
know
with
northeast
or
so
for
us
to
understand
better,
but
it
it's
such
a
it's
such
yeah.
Needless
to
say,
but
it
just
really
struck
me
today
to
see
the
report
that
percentage
of
students
that
are
not
going
off
to
trade
school
and
what
can?
What
can
we
do
in
the
future?
About
that?
You
know.
K
If
I
can
respond,
I'm
welcoming
to
that
and
I
will
all
be
busy-
we
are
working
with
my
collaborativa
to
recruit
more
students
to
apply
to
our
trade
schools
and
our
partners,
so
our
the
collaborativa
and
us
we
are
partnering
together
to
make
sure
we
get
the
word
out
and
that
we
hold
information
sessions
for
families
and
spanish
and
that
we
go
through
the
process
of
explaining
how
a
student
can
be
enrolled.
K
And
so
we
are
really
working
to
recruit
more
students
in
partnership
with
collaborative.
So
when
we
have
taught
to
our
trade,
both
schools
as
well
about
admissions
and
so
there's
there's
been
a
lot
of
work
behind
the
scenes
that
I
can
definitely
share
a
little
bit
more
at
another
time.
C
I
think
that's
really
important,
especially
if
there's
conversations
happening
that
you
know
we
could
understand
and
also
like
you
know,
for
me,
it's
like
we
can
all
advocate
and
talk
about
the
opportunities
for
trade
school,
but
every
high
school
student
as
a
mom
of
the
24
year
olds
and
the
21
year
olds
in
april
that
they're
terming,
you
know
having
as
a
mom
hosting
their
friends
right
and
hearing
all
the
stories
of
chelsea
students
that
were
like
I
wanted
to
go
to
the
school,
and
I
couldn't
or
this
concept
that
you
need
to
be
a
straight.
C
A
student
to
qualify
to
go
to
a
trade
school
is
misinformation,
or
if
that
is
accurate,
then
we
need
to
open
up
those
lines
of
communication
that
dialogue,
and
I
think
that
that's
definitely
stuff
that
I
think
we
should
have
an
understanding
about
so
that
we
can
also
advocate
with
with
whoever
we
need
to
advocate
for
for
our
community,
and
thank
you,
dr
beta,
for
sharing
that
information.
A
Thank
you,
ms
santiago,
you
know
as
a
brother,
I
have
a
brother
who
has
special
needs
and
you
know
school
wasn't
for
him
and
he
didn't
have
trade
opportunities
and
and
now
he's
home,
and
he
we
all
wish
that
he
was
offered
those
opportunities,
and
so
I
echo
you
and
I-
and
I
am
totally
there
with
you
and
would
love
to
collaborate
with
that
on
that
subject
matter
now,
I'll
turn
it
over
to
our
student
representatives
for
an.
A
G
Hey
so
the
only
really
updates
that
I
can
you
know,
keep
in
mind
of
are.
First
of
all,
you
know
will
happen.
Yesterday
are
our
capital,
but
also
the
you
know,
switch
and
schedules.
It
has
brought
a
lot
of
concerns
between
our
students.
You
know,
especially
with
the
zoom
time.
G
You
know
the
impact
that
it
had
on
all
of
us,
especially
with
extracurriculars,
because
you
know
on
top
of
having
those
on
time
those
certain
days
where
we
have
the
day
of
not
day
off,
like
the
period
of
we
essentially
like
prioritize
our
times
like
we're
getting
work
done,
because,
even
though
school
is
done
at
225,
there's
still
a
lot
of
like
extracurriculars
that
meets
after
those
hours.
G
So
on
top
of
sitting
eight
hours-
and
you
know
in
a
chair
sitting
on
a
computer-
can
be
exhausting
so
adding
another
two
to
three
hours
meetings
daily
and
on
top
of
those
students
who
work
can
be
pretty
stressful
and
that's
a
lot
of
concern
on
top
of
our
students
and
that's
a
lot
of
like
what's
really
been
talking
about
and
also
college
acceptance,
letters
to
message,
the
submissions
and
all
that
part.
F
If
I'm
also
able
to
add
something
really
quickly,
absolutely
I
just
want
to
like
mention
since,
like
a
lot
of
like
my
peers
and
fellow
members
of
like
nhs
and
just
like
ap
classes
like
when
we
heard
of
the
new
state
guidelines
for
zoom
meetings.
F
It
was
very
like
shocking,
but
like
understandable,
but
a
lot
of
the
peers
are
worried
about
like
mental
health
and
the
impact
it'll
have
on,
like,
like
mental
health
and
like
scheduling
and
overall,
just
like
stress
since,
especially
like
as
a
senior
like
you're,
taking
harder
classes
and
also
applying
to
colleges,
so
that
in
general
is
harder
and
like,
in
my
personal
opinion,
like
in
my
experience
this
year.
It's
a
lot
harder
to
like
learn
in
an
online
setting
compared
to
like
in
school
person.
F
Learning
it's
just
like
harder
to
like
understand
the
material
you're
being
taught
and
yeah
like
it's
all
piling
up
like.
I
feel
and
like
my
personal
experience
and
what
I've
heard
from
my
peers,
just
just
to
like
put
that
out
there,
since
I
felt
like
people
were
asking
about
it
earlier.
A
Thank
you.
Thank
you
for
sharing
your
experiences.
So
are
there
any
questions
from
the
school
committee
actually.
D
I
I
haven't
sorry
does
somebody
else
have
something,
mr
I
just
I'm
curious.
If
I
could
just
ask
the
superintendent,
you
know
these
these
new
guidelines
around
you
know
like
synchronous
time
versus
asynchronous
time.
D
I
guess
like
I'm
just
curious
like
do
we
think
they're
helpful,
you
know.
Do
we
think
that
that
this
is
just
like
you
know,
the
students
are
are
kind
of
telling
us
right
that
it's
it's
presenting
a
challenge,
I'm
just
I'm
curious
to
to
hear
kind
of
what
the
you
know
pros
versus
cons
of
of
doing
this
are.
K
Can
you
hear
me
just
as
our
students
said,
I
think,
there's
there's
concern
and
that's
part
of
the
reason
why,
when
we
initially
did
our
middle
school
schedules
and
high
school
schedules,
we
realized
that
being
on
zoom
for
long
periods
of
time
is
is
stressful.
Like
us,
we
cannot
how
how
how
long
can
we
endure
on
zoom,
for
you
know
developmentally
we
thought
long
and
hard
about
our
schedules
when
we
were
asked
to
create
our
reopening
plans
and
we
really
did
give
it
to
the
schools.
K
So
in
the
high
school's
case,
we
we
gave
it
to
the
administrators
and
said
please,
with
your
school
teacher
with
your
teachers
and
your
teams
create
a
schedule
that
you
think
will
work
for
you
and
your
students
and
what's
going
to
be
the
best
schedule
for
you,
so
they
had
the
autonomy
to
create
the
schedule.
We
didn't
create
it
for
them
from
central
office.
So
they
felt
that
that
was
the
given
the
circumstances,
the
best
schedule
that
they
could
do
and
what
seemed
right
to
them
and
same
thing.
K
With
our
middle
grades,
our
middle
grades,
we
gave
each
school
autonomy
to
create
the
schedule
that
they
wanted
to
create
with
their
teachers,
and
so
those
those
were
the
schedules
that
were
created,
of
course,
there's
parameters.
We
have
to
meet
certain
amount
of
minutes
learning
time
so
to
change.
Mid-Year
is,
I
think
it
is
difficult.
K
K
It
will
be
an
adjustment
and
just
as
our
students
shared
it's,
it's
creating
some
changes
for
them.
So
to
answer
your
question,
we
thought
when
we
had
created
our
original
schedules,
that
we
had
done
the
best
that
we,
with
the
knowledge
that
we
had,
and
we
were
given
with
the
circumstance
that
we
had
schedules
that
were
the
best
schedules
that
we
could
create,
so
we're
having
to
go
back
and
recreate
is
what
I'll
say.
So
it's
it's.
It's
definitely
a
challenge.
D
It
feels
like
every
time
that
I
you
know,
I'm
speaking
about
jesse,
it's
criticizing,
but
it
really
has
felt
a
lot
a
lot
of
the
times
this
year
that
they
have
continued
to
kind
of
just
do
make
decisions
on
their
own
and
not
really
take
into
account
a
whole
lot
of
input
from
districts,
and
you
know
I
really
just
want
to
you
know-
commend
the
work
that
you
have
done,
because
I
know
that
it.
It
can't
be
easy
to
have
to
continue
making
changes.
D
When
you
know
it
doesn't
feel
like
we're
getting
we're
giving
a
lot
of
input
to
deci
and
it
I
feel,
like
the
changes,
have
sometimes
come
kind
of
abruptly.
So
definitely
thank
you
for
doing
that,
and
you
know
we
would
hope
that
desi
would
be
a
little
more
mindful
of
that.
But
anyway,
thank
you.
K
K
K
K
And
then
a
future
one
transfer
and
then
a
leave
of
absence
for
our
personnel
report,
and
then
we
have
our
enrollment
numbers,
we're
pretty
steady
at
six
thousand
right
now,
that's
probably
about
150
less
students
than
last
year,
and
so
that
these
are
the
two
reports
I
would
like
to
submit
for
the
record.
A
Thank
you,
dr
beta.
I
had
a
quick
question
and
then
I'll
open
it
up
to
the
team
to
see
if
there
are
any
others
for
the
personnel
updates.
I
wonder,
and
perhaps
this
is
a
question
for
hr,
but
I
wonder
if
there's
a
possibility
of
replacing
the
word
hispanic
for
latin
x.

Do
we
have
a

Just
speak
a
little
bit
to
this
because
we're
taking
a
million
dollars
out
of
special

the
early
learning
center
in
the

If
I
read
that
correctly-
a

So
I
just
want
to
hear
a

bit
more
about
that.
If
dr

anything

if
that's

miss

if
I

we're

some
of

as

C
You
know
that
was
helpful
to
hear
and
forgive
me
I
should
have
checked
double
budget
so
a
little
bit
but
yeah
because
it
you
know
when
you
hear
a
million
being
pushed,
but
then,
when
you
break
it
down
a
little
bit
like
this,
is
from
salaries
and
moving
some
other
great
money
and
sort
of
covering
those
blocks.
It
doesn't
sound
like
it's
just
all
coming
out
of,
like
I
guess
one
bucket
to
the
other,
it's
sort
of
pieces.

Lastly,
I'm
going
to
ask
for
a
moment
of
silence
for
those
members
who
we
have
lost.
H
And
can
we
add
one
more

to
that?
Can
we

Thank.
E
You
and
I
have
another
one.
I
have
one
yes,
anthony
samboli
passed
away.
As
you
all
know,
the
zimbabwe
family
dedicates
a
lot
of
money
to
the
chelsea
high
school
students
and
scholarships.
I
want
to
send
my
regards
to
his
family
and
I
also
want
to
say
I'm
sorry
to
ingrid
one
of
the
women
and
girls
in
our
school
department
office.
She
lost
her
mom.
A
E
J
Madam
chair
would
like
to
say
a
few
words.
Yes,
ms,
it's
funny
that
our
student,
reps
lamia
and
richard
spoke
about
the
stresses
and
what
everything
they're
going
through.
I
I
sat
there
yesterday
watching
tv
at
a
loss
for
words.
I
started
to
think
you
know.
I
grew
up
in
roxbury
and
I
thought
I
had
it
hard
growing
up,
because
I'm
in
the
in
the
city
of
boston,
during
the
80s
and
90s,
where
there
was
a
lot
of
violence,
but
I
can't
compare
what
I
went
through
to
what
our
students
are
facing.
J
Even
before
the
pandemic.
Here
in
chelsea,
our
students
were
facing
social
injustices
and
equities.
You
know
the
food
and
security,
the
housing
security.
Now
the
pandemic,
you
know
having
to
go
to
school
through
zoom.
You
know
so
much
stressors
and
there's
so
much
going
on.
So
I
I
thank
them
for
saying
how
they're
feeling
and
to
encourage
all
your
peers
to
reach
out
to
somebody
if
they're
feeling
that
way,
we
know
how
you're
feeling
and
from
students
may
not
want
to
say
you
know,
because
there's
always
that
stigma
of
being
weak.
J
But
this
is
something
real
that
we're
all
suffering
and
we
all
need
each
other
and
we
need
to
support
each
other.
So
please
reach
out
to
somebody.
If
you
know,
if
you
need
that
support
we're
here
for
you,
we
want
to
support
you
in
place,
like
I
said
we're
here,
for
you
reach
out,
don't
keep
it
to
yourself.
We
need
each
other
at
this
time.
Thank
you
very
nice.
P
Want
to
thank
you
and
the
collaborative
and
counselor
malinato
vega,
baker,
melinda,
sorry-
and
I
also
want
to
thank
the
members
of
the
chelsea
black
community
organization
that
helped
out
the
young
people
in
the
city.
During
christmas
time
you
had
a
christmas
event,
wrapping
and
buying
gifts
for
the
students
and
young
families,
members
here
in
the
city
and
at
the
charleston
black
community
organization.
We
also
sponsor
the
catholic
organization
for
their
christmas
donations
for
the
youth,
also
in
our
city.
Sorry,
thank
you
for
that.
P
Also,
I
want
a
a
big
shout
out
to
pastor
whitley
for
her
amazing
work
that
she
did
with
the
schools
over
the
holiday
season
as
well,
helping
out
three
families
that
were
in
need
of
some
supplies,
so
we
did
a
great
job
with
that
also.
So
I
want
to
thank
you
for
that.
Thank
you.
We
congratulate
you
for
your
second
term
as
our
president
and
also
want
to
thank
and
congratulate
ann
hernandez
as
our
vice
president
for
this
season.
So
thank
you
and
yeah
good
stuff
happening
right.
Yes,.
A
Thank
you
guys.
Thank
you,
mr
olson.
Thank
you
for
reminding
me
of
the
toy
drive.
It
was
a
success
and
thank
you
to
all
the
volunteers
that
helped.
It
was
a
beautiful
event
and
I
was
so
happy
to
see
some
of
us
some
of
our
community
members
help
out
yeah
it's
a
great
time.
Thank
you,
alrighty
team,
any
other
announcements.
D
I
have
another:
just
fun
announcement
just
want
to
make
sure
that
everybody
just
want
to
wish
everybody
who
celebrated
what
yesterday
said
it
was
yesterday
three
kings
day
the
other
day.
Yes,
hope
everybody
who
was,
who
celebrated
hada
had
a
good
day.
P
You
want
to
it
up.
I
want
to
thank
mr
james
roberto
for
inviting
us
to
the
meeting
yesterday
on
the
soa.
It
was
a
great
meeting,
a
lot
of
great
information
at
the
meeting
and
just
want
to
continue
pushing
for
the
funding
that
was
guaranteed
to
us
gateway
communities,
but
especially
for
chelsea
students.
We
want
to
continue
getting
some
money,
even
though
it's
a
seven
year
plan.
We
want
to
make
sure
that
we
stay
honest
with
the
governor
because
the
budget
does
come
out.
D
P
Gonna
make
sure
that
everybody
here
on
the
committee
has
been
very
active
and
involved
in
asking
for
the
money
for
our
students
that
was
promised
to
us
already.
We
can
get
something
just
to
help
our
students
so
roberto.
Thank
you
again
for
inviting
us.
It
was
a
great
meeting
last
night.
C
Yes,
thank
you
roberto.
It
was
a
great
meeting,
so
I
I'm
I'm,
echoing
all
the
sentiments
we.
Needless
to
say,
chelsea
was
hit
significantly
hard
with
covid,
and
I'm
just
really
grateful
to
dr
albeda,
for
you
know,
taking
the
feedback
hearing
our
concerns
when
this.
C
When
this
happens,
it
shows
that
we
made
the
right
decision
and
that
you
know
chelsea,
didn't
open
the
doors
and
then
close
them
and
open
and
that
we're
being
really
careful
and
following
the
science
and
the
data
that
allows
us
to
make
really
strong
informed
decisions
in
protecting
every
single
person
in
our
schools,
teachers,
staff
and
students.
Having
said
that,
this
year,
you
know
we
are
getting
questions
about
vaccinations
and
that's
not
a
conversation
that
I
think
I
or
we
are
equipped
to
get
into
here
for
a
moment.
C
But
I
will
say
that
we
do
have
local
elections
this
year.
There
are
still
big
decisions
being
made:
a
charter
review
commission
that
people
can
attend,
there's
always
opportunities
to
stay
involved
and
that
folks
need
community
more
than
ever,
and
it's
really
important
that
all
voices
are
always
heard
and
that
spaces
are
created
so
that
we
are
taking
leadership
in
creating
inclusive
spaces,
not
just
here
on
our
school
committee
meetings,
but
also
in
other
spaces
in
the
city.
C
So
you
know,
I
know
that
everybody
has
their
thing,
but
this
stuff
is
still
here
cold,
but
it's
still
here
and
it's
still
real
and
my
heart
goes
out
to
everybody
who
everyone
who's,
who
has
a
loved
one
at
home
right
now,
a
family
member
right
now,
people
in
the
hospital-
and
I
just
want
to
let
you
know
like
we're
with
you-
we're
holding
you
in
prayer-
and
you
know
we're
we'll
be
positive,
but
it's
going
to
require
strength,
advocacy
voice
what's
within
our
capacity
for
sure
and
practicing
self-care
for
ourselves.
H
Can
I
say
something
go
ahead,
miss
hernandez.
I
want
to
share
with
all
of
you,
I'm
presently
home,
trying
to
survive
recuperate
from
coven,
and
I
have
no
idea
how
I
got
it.
I
took.
I
have
been
taking
super
good
care
of
myself
because
health-wise
I
am
not
strong.
H
My
immune
system
is
rather
weak,
so
I
have
taken
very
good
care
of
myself
all
through
this
pandemic
and
tried
to
protect
myself
as
much
as
possible,
and
still
I
don't
even
know
where
I
got
it
from,
but
I
did
come
out
positive
and
have
and
got
hit
pretty
hard
with
it.
I
am
just
now
starting
to
recuperate
from
it.
I
still
don't
have
taste,
I
don't
have
much
smell,
I
have
no
appetite
and
I'm
extremely
weak.
H
I
have
a
lot
of
family
members
in
florida
who
are
positive
and
actually
one
uncle,
who
I
would
ask
that
everybody
keep
in
their
prayers.
He
is
in
the
icu
with
cover
pneumonia
and
we
are
extremely
worried
about
him.
He's
79
and
although
he's
strong,
this
has
moved
very
rapidly
through
him,
and
this
is
this
is
real,
and
this
is
very
scary,
and
this
is
doesn't
seem
to
be
going
away
anytime
soon.
H
It
seems
as
though
we
we
thought
we
may
have
been
making
some
headway,
but
it
doesn't
seem
like
at
least
not
in
chelsea.
We
seem
to
be
getting
it
every
day
more.
You
seem
to
meet
more
people
every
day
that
have
it
and
that
are
trying
to
recover
from
it.
So
I
ask
you
to
please
keep
my
family
in
your
prayers,
especially
my
uncle,
and
that
we'll
keep
working
at
this
and
trying
to
get
our
kids
ahead
of
all
this,
and
I
repeat
everything
that
my
that
my
peers
have
stated.
H
I
feel
bad
for
the
children
that
are
trying
to
face
everything
that
they're
trying
to
face
right
now.
It's
all
so
much
of
it
is
negative
and
it's
so
hard
to
try
to
keep
them
on
the
positive
side.
H
C
Yes,
miss
garcia.
I
just
want
to
echo
again
that
we
brought
forward
on
multiple
spaces
that
you
know.
I
think
it's
something
that
the
school
committee
should
consider,
whether
we
have
a
separate
subcommittee
of
the
whole
to
discuss
what's
the
best
way
to
share
pandemic
updates,
whether
that's
you
know
putting
another
agenda
bullet
on
our.
C
You
know
our
regular
monthly
meetings
or,
if
that's
you
know
something
like
a
subcommittee
just
for
us
to
think
about
that,
and
maybe
you
know
continue
that
conversation
on
how
we
can
share
that
in
the
best
way,
with
the
community
and
with
us
as
a
as
a
school
committee.
A
Thank
you.
Miss
villas
also
is
in
support
of
this,
as
she
mentioned
in
the
chat
and
miss
santiago.
Let's
most
certainly
talk
about
that
for
the
next
meeting
already
team.
In
closing
I'd
like
to
leave
with
a
few
reminders,
as
dr
aveda
reminded
us
in
her
letter
addressed
to
the
community,
we
must
remember
our
culture
of
care
and
love
as
we
continue
our
vital
work,
but
we
have
a
lot
of
work
ahead
of
us.
A
A
Meeting
returned
at
8
25.
have
a
great
night
everyone
and
stay.
