council
women
across
the
state,

councilor,
stephanie
martens
from
everett,
who
are
also
calling
out
big
tech
companies
of
massachusetts
and
advocating
for
workers
in
our
community.

are
working
endless
hours
with
companies
such
as
uber
and
lyft
and
in
return,
are
getting
no
health,
insurance,
no
paid
sick
time,
fewer
legal
protections
against
discrimination
and
harassment
in
the
workplace
and
are
not
eligible
for
paid
family
leave
or
unemployment.
These
workers
have
children
to
feed
bills
to
pay
and
a
roof
to
sustain.

allow
these
injustices
in
the
workplace
to
continue.

can

time,

this
council,
I
don't
think
is
right
and
I
will
be
voting
no.

think
we
did
well.
That
was

very
long
resolution
and
counselor
garcia
did
a
great
job
explaining
it.
I
just
want
to
say
that
I

disagree
with
my
brother
counselor
in
terms
of
us
that
the
our
power
in
representing
our
community
goes
as
far
as
just
municipal
government.

think
that
in
order
to
really
affect
change,
we
need
to
organize
and
the
way
that
we
organize
is
by
teaming
up
with
other
city,
councilors
and
people
across
the
state
to
push
initiatives
like
this.

understand
that
this
is
very
controversial.

friends
on
both
sides
of
this.
I
chose
to
support
it
because
I
know
it's
the
right
thing
to
do
and
while
I
can
respect
my
brother
counselors
policy
on
not
supporting
local
resolutions
that

political,
I
just
really
disagree
that
that
is
not
an
effective
way
of
us
really
showing
solidarity
for
our
community.

laws
strengthens
the
city's
ability
to
hire
vendors
that
treat
their
employees
fairly,
whereas
the
city
council
hereby
further
finds
and
determines
that
due
to
the
pervasive
sniffs
of
the
wage
theft
in

construction
industry.

Financial
incentives
are
necessary
to
motivate
property
owners
and
their
general
contractors
to
take
steps
sufficient
to
ensure
that
wage
theft
does
not
occur.

of
us
who
were
here
by
the
labor
council

wage

to

they
also
incorporated

in
their
wage
death
law

received

city

chelsea

finance,
rebate
or
a
program
where
they're
paying
less
in
taxes
their
contractors.

they're
going
to

say

build
in
this
city,
your
contractor
has
to
follow
the
same
guidelines
that
we
set
forth,
that
we
believe
preserve
quality
of
life
and
make
sure
that
no
one
is
going
to
be
a
victim
of
waitstaff.

that's
what
this
does.
