From YouTube: Aging Well Center: Apple Knowledge Program
Description
Michael Marshall discusses the Apple platform. Topics include the loss of the home button, making emergency calls, setting up emergency contacts, sign-in with Apple, location restrictions, changing Siri’s voice, maps and photos. Presented by the Aging Well Center.
A
Normally,
if
we
were
holding
a
class
in
person,
we
would
give
you
a
document
that
you
would
then
be
able
to
make
notes
on
take
home
with
you
refer
to
once
we
got
home.
So
what
I'll
do
today
is
bring
that
document
up
on
my
screen
and
share
that
with
you,
so
that
you
can
be
watching
it
as
we're
talking.
So
here
we
go.
A
All
right,
so
first
thing
is
with
the
introduction
of
the
iPhone
10.
The
home
button
went
away
so
previously
in
earlier
models.
You
would
press
the
home
button
when
you
wanted
to
exit
an
application
and
come
back
to
your
home
screen.
You
would
double
tap
the
home
button
where
you
want
to
see
a
list
of
your
open
apps.
So
now
with
the
loss
of
the
home
button.
A
A
A
So
if
your
screen
is
locked
notice
that
there
is
the
word
emergency
on
your
screen,
so
if
you
have
set
up
your
phone
to
enable
this,
anybody
who
comes
along
is
able
to
then
call
emergency
personnel
on
your
behalf,
even
if
they
don't
have
a
phone.
Also,
if
you've
set
it
up.
When
this
happens,
it
would
also
notify
your
emergency
contacts
so
that
they
would
be
told
where
you
are
at
that
moment
and
that
you
are
in
an
emergency
situation.
A
A
Unfortunately,
I
have
tended
to
hit
that
button
repeatedly
too
often
and
dialed
9-1-1
a
couple
of
times
like
turned
it
off
matter
of
choice,
but
if
you
do
want
to
set
it
up
or
turn
it
off,
go
to
your
settings,
choose
the
emergency
SOS
and
then
either
turn
it
on
or
turn
it
off.
Setting
up
your
emergency
contacts
is
done
as
part
of
your
medical
I
D.
So
if
you
go
into
the
health
app
and
say
that
you
want
to
set
up
your
medical
ID,
you
can
do
this
as
part
of
that
medical
ID.
A
You
can
see
on
the
screen
here.
What
happens
is
someone
who
then
is
assisting
you
at
the
hospital
would
have
information
on
you.
They
would
not
only
see
your
names,
but
they
could
address
you
properly
and
potentially
look
up
records
if
you're
at
a
location
you've
been
to
before,
but
they
also
have
your
birth
date.
So
they
have
your
age.
They
would
have
any
medical
conditions
that
you've
entered.
They'd
have
allergies
that
you
have
listed.
They
would
have
medications
that
you're
currently
taking
your
blood
type.
A
A
You
can
set
up
dark
mode
to
come
on
automatically
in
these
pictures
that
you're
seeing
you
can
see
that
the
one
is
a
bit
darker
than
the
other
and
you'll
notice
that
in
this
side-by-side
pictures
the
icons
actually
will
stand
out
a
little
differently,
especially
if
you're
in
a
group
of
icons,
seeing
this
in
person
is
a
whole
lot
better
than
the
picture.
So
maybe
you
want
to
try
it
out
for
yourself
and
see
how
it
looks
and
see
what
you
think
of
it.
So
again,
you'd
go
into
your
settings
and
set
dark
mode.
A
Apple
doesn't
track,
you
Apple
does
not
profile.
You
Apple
doesn't
do
any
of
those
things
that
none
of
us
want
to
happen.
So
if
you
are
about
to
log
into
a
website-
and
you
see
that
you
have
the
option
to
sign
in
with
Apple,
then
that
may
be
something
that
you
want
to
do
going
forward
as
then
you're,
not
sharing
personal
information
and
you're
keeping
it
secure,
because
the
only
person
who
has
your
personal
information
is
Apple,
not
all
of
these
other
companies.
So
it's
something
to
help.
You
feel
more
secure
about
your
information.
A
Location
services
has
been
an
issue
again
for
many
people,
because
they
don't
want
people
tracking
them.
They
don't
want
people
knowing
where
they
are.
They
don't
want
people
to
be
able
to
know
what
their
movements
are.
So
now,
if
you
are
using
an
app,
that's
asking
you
to
access
your
location
information
instead
of
just
simply
granting
that
access.
You
have
a
choice
of
how
you
want
to
grant
that
access.
So
let's
say
that
you're
using
a
search
engine-
and
you
want
to
find
restaurants
near
you
well,
they
need
your
location
to
find
anything
near
you.
A
So
you
know
a
iOS
13.
You
now
have
access
to
more
voices.
If
you're
working
with
Siri
again,
you
can
go
into
your
settings,
select
Siri,
and
then
you
can
see
the
options
available
to
you
for
the
voices
you
can
change
the
gender,
making
it
male
or
female,
and
now
you
have
the
choice
of
a
number
of
accents
American
by
default,
but
you
can
choose
Australian,
British,
Indian,
Irish
or
South
African.
A
Some
people
enjoy
it
for
a
change.
Some
people
enjoy
it
because
it
makes
them
smile.
So
whatever
your
reason
consider
changing
this
eerie
voice
and
seeing
if
it
is
something
that
you
prefer
a
lot
of
changes
in
maps
and
a
lot
more
that
will
be
going
on
as
time
goes
by
you're,
seeing
more
and
more
information
and
the
more
detailed
information
you're.
Seeing
if
you,
if
you
looking
at
the
pictures
here,
you
can
see
the
one
on
the
right
has
much
more
detail.
It's
showing
you
more
information
about.
A
What's
around
you,
the
parks,
the
municipal
buildings,
that
sort
of
thing
it's
showing
you
more
detail
on
streets
when
you're,
using
the
Apple
map
to
give
you
direction,
driving
directions
to
move
from
one
place
to
another.
You'll
find
that
now
it's
giving
you
additional
information
that
where,
as
performative
map
app
simply
said,
you
know
turn
in
900
feet
now,
you're
going
to
be
saying
that
it
will
tell
you
in
900
feet
at
the
light
turn
right
onto
such-and-such
a
street.
A
So
it's
it's
guiding
you
in
terms
of
what's
going
to
happen
in
the
future,
trying
to
position
you
so
that
you're,
where
you
need
to
be
at
times,
if
you're
in
the
right
lane,
for
instance,
and
that
right
lane
is
going
to
become
a
right
turn
only
or
it
will
end,
the
app
will
tell
you
to
move
over
to
the
middle
lane
or
the
left
lane,
depending
on.
What's
going
on
so
you're
getting
more
information
as
you're
driving
along.
A
If
you
look
the
bottom
of
the
screen,
when
you're
looking
at
the
map
application,
you
can
see
things
like
parked
car.
It
will
tell
you
as
close
as
possible,
where
your
car
is
parked
at
that
particular
time.
If
you
want,
you
can
share
your
information.
Let's
say
that
you're
going
to
a
friend's
house
for
the
first
time
and
you've
keyed
in
their
address
and
your
end
route
there.
You
can
share
your
information
and
it
will
update
them
on
your
ETA.
It
will
give
them
an
initial
idea
of
how
long
it's
going
to
take.
A
But
then,
let's
say
you
went
into
traffic,
there's
an
accident
there's
a
detour.
It
will
continue
to
update
them
via
message
on
what
your
arrival
time
is
expected
to
be.
This
can
be
a
really
great
thing
if
you're
heading
home
and
someone
is
trying
to
prepare
dinner
for
you,
then
you
might
want
to
share
so
that
they
have
a
better
time
of
when
it
is
that
you're
going
to
reach
there
so
photos.
There
have
been
quite
a
number
of
changes
to
photos
when
you're.
A
Looking
at
your
photos
down,
let
me
go
ahead
and
bring
that
up.
So
that
we
can
share
that
screen,
you'll
see
that
you
have
choices
at
the
bottom.
Do
you
want
to
see
all
photos
you
want
to
see
days?
Do
you
want
to
see
months?
Do
you
want
to
see
years
so,
depending
on
what
you
choose,
it
may
make
it
faster
and
easier
for
you
to
find
a
specific
photo
that
you're
looking
for.
A
A
A
If
you
in
contacts,
you
have
the
capability
of
setting
up
a
birthday
for
an
individual.
If
you
use
that,
then
pardoning
when
you're
looking
at
your
photos
on
their
birthday,
you'll
see
highlighted
photos
of
that
person.
If
you've
noticed
Apple's
photo
app
will
also
from
time
to
time,
create
little
videos
for
you
of
your
photos.
These
memories
are
accompanied
by
music
and
you
can
save
those
if
it's
something
that
you
like
and
want
to
preserve,
or
you
can
share
them
if
it's
something
that
you
want
to
share
with
someone
else,
oftentimes
they'll
create
these.
A
So
one
of
the
things
that
you
can
do
is
to
edit
your
own
photos.
So
in
this
case,
looking
at
the
photo
I'm
going
to
touch
edit
in
the
upper
right
corner
and
what
I
do
I
get
some
different
options
available
to
me
for
this
particular
photo
and
what
I
might
want
to
do.
Let's
say
that
I
want
to
crop
it
I'm
going
to
touch
this
little.
What
looks
like
a
square
here
and
when
I
do
I
get
corners
and
I
can
pull
those
corners
to
crop
so.
A
There
are
a
lot
of
ends.
You
can
do
in
your
photo.
App
play
around,
go
outside,
take
a
couple
of
pictures
and
then
come
back
in
and
go
into
edit
mode
and
play
around
and
see
what
you
can
do.
If
you
do
it
with
a
picture
like
that,
really
doesn't
mean
anything
to
you
to
give
you
an
idea
what
you
can
do,
then,
if
you
have
a
picture
that
really
is
important
to
you.
You
know
what
it
is
that
you
can
do
to
either
improve
that
picture,
or
maybe
even
salvage.
A
It
sometimes
you'll
take
pictures
and
the
lighting
isn't
right,
and
so
what
you
end
up
with
is
a
really
dark
photo,
don't
automatically
delete
it
edit
it
and
see
if
you
can
use
the
brightness
control
the
the
white
balance.
There's
any
number
of
things
that
you
could
do
to
potentially
bring
that
to
the
point
where
you
can
actually
see
the
people
in
the
picture,
even
though
it
may
have
looked
almost
black
before
or
they
were
so
dark.
A
A
A
So
thank
you
for
joining
us
today
and
hopefully,
when
things
change
we'll
consider
coming
back
to
the
aging
wealth
center
and
joining
us
in
person
for
a
class
here
and
until
then
keep
watching
for
new
videos
to
be
added,
and
let
us
know
if
there's
anything
in
particular
that
you
would
like
to
see.
Thank
you
and
have
a
great
day.
