C
You
gave
them
new
names
to
give
them
a
new
identity
and
better
reflect
your
purpose
and
mission
for
their
lives
and
their
people.
So
today
we
rename
our
post
in
honor
of
a
brave
heroic
leader
and
his
extraordinary
wife
we're
full
of
vision,
character
together.
They
represented
the
very
best
of
our
local
community
to
better
reflect
our
purpose
and
Mission
as
the
home
of
infantry
and
armor.
Now
Lord.
C
D
B
It
was
quickly
realized
that
this
site
would
not
be
suitable
for
expansion
or
training
areas
and
rifle
ranges
so
on
October
19
1918,
the
busy
Dairy
located
eight
miles
south
of
Columbus,
was
selected
as
a
new
home
of
campaigning
and
the
Infantry
School
of
arms,
where
thousands
of
soldiers
would
be
trained
on
Infantry
skills
and
tactics
for
the
great
war
in
Europe
by
1940.
Ford
printing
was
now
well
known
as
the
home
of
the
Infantry.
B
It
was
home
to
several
units
preparing
for
large-scale
combat
operations,
as
the
second
world
war
continued
to
rapidly
expand
in
both
the
European
and
Pacific
Theaters,
the
first
Infantry
Division.
Fourth,
infantry
division
and
seconded
Armored
Division,
led
by
Major
General
George,
S,
Patton
Jr,
all
called
Fort
Benning
home
as
they
trained
with
the
weapons
vehicles
and
tactics
needed
to
win
on
the
battlefield
on
August
16
1940.
The

in
a
new
era
of
delivering
the
Infantry
to
the
battlefield.
B
Fort
Benning
also
played
a
significant
role
in
the
Korean
and
Vietnam
Wars.
Providing
training
and
support
for
American
troops.
Korean
war
broke
out
on
June
25th
1950,
the

and
its

Within
a

Fort
Benning
trained
and
mobilized
thousands
of

who

to
the
Persian

The
1990s
saw
Fort

support
a
myriad
of
peacekeeping
and
contingency
operations
around
the
world.

After

on
September

the
global
war
on

began
rapidly
increasing
the
training,
education
and
operational
tempo
of
both
the
Infantry

and
other
units
here
at
Fort
Benning.
The

were

as
the

for
their

This

has
served
as
a
training

for
soldiers
from
all
over
the

for
more
than
100
years
and
will
continue
to
do
so
for
many
years
to
come.
These
soldiers
of
the

represent
the
legacy
of
our
army
throughout
the
history
of
Fort

Please

in

Every

in
the
U.S

has
a
distinctive
flag
assigned
which
symbolize
a
unit's
lineage,
its
honors
and
its
identity.
This
flag
is
known
as
the
colors.
This
tradition
originated
for
soldiers
to
recognize
the
flag
or
colors
of
each
of
their
regiments
and
follow
it
into
battle.

of
the
soldiers

who
serve
under
them,
providing
sustainment

ultimately

Fort
Moore
is
unique
in
recognizing
military
spouses
and
families
as
personified
by
Julie
Compton
Moore,
the
daughter
of
army,

lived
every

of
military

life,
starting
with
her
birth
in
the
Army

at
Fort.

Oklahoma
in
1929.
B
From
her
teenage
years,
Julie
became
a
lifelong
Red,
Cross
volunteer.
She
led
many
military
Community
Support
efforts
and
was
an
active
champion
of
army

clubs,
daycare,
centers
and
other
Military

distinguisher
as
one
of
the
most
influential

in
our
military
history.
A
E
Great
having
you
back
on
the
microphone
and
I
think
the
Moors
are
looking
down
on
us
today
with
some
great
weather,
a
little
a
little
overcast
little
breeze
taking
care
of
soldiers.
Once
again,
ladies
and
gentlemen,
distinguished
guests,
it
is
my
honor
and
privilege
to
be
the
first
to
welcome
you
all
to
Fort
Moore.
E
E
For
this
ceremony,
the
stadium
is
filled
with
heroes
from
every
generation,
and
today
we
honor
two
of
our
nation's
very
best,
welcome
to
all
of
our
elected
officials
and
staff,
Representatives
community
and
Business
Leaders
senior
Department
of
Defense
and
army
civilians,
General
Britto,
sir,
the
senior

and
former

here,
other
active
and
retired
General
officers
and
sergeants
major
veterans,
senior
leaders
from
the
American,
Red,
Cross
and
I
could
go
on
and
on.
Your
attendance
speaks
to
the
importance
of
this
event
and
the
great
partnership
we
have
with
the
Chattahoochee
River
Valley.
E
E
Your
presence
today
is
the
personal
touch
that
gives
us
momentous
occasion,
a
very
special
meaning.
We
also
have
a
Medal
of
Honor
recipient
in
our
midst.
Colonel
retired
Joe
morham,
who
led
first

Alpha
Company

Cab
in
Vietnam,
Lieutenant,
General,
Moore's

welcome,
also
to
all
the
veterans,
especially
those
from
one
seven

The
unit
Lieutenant
General

commanded
in

and
all
of
the
other

and

soldiers
from
units
that
the

served
with
throughout
their
career.

E
E
And
lastly,
Donald
Cobb
Donald
served
in
the
U.S
Navy
from
1943
until
1945
aboard
the
USS.
Murphy
is
a
Radioman
during
the
D-Day
invasion,
his
ship
bombarded
German,
Physicians
off
Omaha
Beach
and
provided
Naval
gunfire
support
throughout
the
operation.
Donald
is
the
youngest
of
these
three
at
98.,
gentlemen,
we
are
grateful
for
your
attendance.
E
The
relationships
the
more
is
created
and
instilled
in
soldiers
spouses
in
this
community
during
their
career
and
especially
throughout
the
Vietnam
War,
were
catalysts
for
the
Army
and
forever
changed
how
we
value
and
take
care
of
our
own.
The
impact
they
had
on
families
still
resonates
throughout
our
ranks.
To
this
very
day,
prompted
by
his
father
Hal's
goal
of
attending
the
United
States
Military
Academy
at
West
Point,
took
shape
during
his
teenage
years.
E
In
1940,
he
accepted
a
patronage
position
at
the
Senate
book,
Warehouse
that
required
him
to
drop
out
of
high
school,
so
Hal
finished
school
at
night.
During
the
day,
he
stalked
the
halls
of
Congress
in
search
of
an
appointment
to
West
Point
two
years
later
received
an
appointment
to
the
United
States
Naval
Academy,
supposed
to
be
a
little
laughter,
never
one
for
second
place.
How
convinced
of
Georgia
congressman
there.
E
It
is
a
Georgia
Congressman
to
swap
in
an
obligated
West
Point
slot
for
his
Kentucky
sponsored
appointment
to
Annapolis
from
the
beginning,
Hal
displayed
tremendous
leadership
potential
at
West.
Point
was
committed
to
his
values,
always
exemplifying
personal
and
moral
courage.
When
a
fellow
Cadet,
an
African-American
classmate
Ernie
Davis,
was
to
be
excluded
from
a
company,
picnic
Hal
immediately
objected
and
threatened
to
boycott
the
event.
The
class
respected
house
gesture
and
welcome
Davis
to
the
picnic
later
is
the
Commanding
General
of
Fort
Ord
California.
E
During
a
time
of
high
racial
tension,
Al
instituted
an
equal
opportunity
policy,
Banning
discrimination.
He
did
more
than
talk
a
good
game.
Hal
hold
folks
accountable
through
his
actions
once
again
set
the
example,
always
emphasizing
competence,
judgment
and
character
with
character
being
the
most
important.
E
That's
the
embodiment
of
the
maneuver
center
of
excellence
was
a
true
hero
who
inspired
his
troops
to
Greatness
and
earned
their
respect
and
admiration
in
return
because
he
genuinely
cared
for
them.
He
loved
them
and
they
loved
him.
Leadership
he
said
is
not
about
being
in
charge.
It's
about
taking
care
of
those
in
your
charge
as
a
leader,
how
more
epitomized
our
Army's
values
and
also
developed
his
own
principles
of
leadership,
one
of
the
most
being
quote
three
strikes
and
you're
not
out.
E
He
believed
leaders
must
exude
self-confidence
or
positive
attitude
and
the
will
to
win
and
that
there
was
always
one
more
thing.
One
could
do
to
increase
the
odds
of
success
because
in
war
he
said
there
are
no
second
place
trophies
tenant,
General
War
accomplished
many
things
in
his
life,
but
none
would
have
been
possible
without
the
love
and
support
of
his
wife
Julie.
Much
like
her
husband,
Julie
Moore
was
a
visionary
Crusader
of
seeing
things
done
right.
E
It
could
not
have
been
easy
for
her
Army
spouses
and
families
don't
sign
on
to
serve
yet
they're
a
call
to
do
just
that
in
support
of
their
soldiers.
Soldiers
put
their
lives
on
the
line
to
protect
our
country
and
its
citizens.
They
endure
long
deployments,
dangerous
missions
and
challenging
conditions,
often
far
from
home
and
loved
ones.
Spouses
and
families.
Left
Behind
also
sacrificed
greatly
managing
households
raising
children
and
coping
with
the
stress
of
having
their
loved
one
In
Harm's
Way.
These
sacrifices
are
not
only
physical
but
emotional
as
well.
E
E
When
Julie
watched
on
National
Television
the
Walter
Cronkite
interview
of
the
family
of
Sergeant
Jack
gal,
she
was
distraught
when
she
realized
they
were
notified
of
his
death
by
telegram
delivered
by
a
cab
driver
not
only
saddened
by
the
Lost.
She
was
upset
that
she
didn't
know
about
the
death
and
wasn't
there
to
comfort
the
family.
E
The
tragedy
inspired
Julie
Moore
to
attend
the
notifications
and
the
funerals
of
as
many
of
her
husband's
Fallen
Soldiers
as
she
could.
Only
our
gold
star
families
truly
understand
the
sacrifice
and
pain
of
losing
a
loved
one.
In
combat
later
this
morning,
you'll
hear
from
Sergeant
Kell's,
wife,
Mrs,
Rebecca
gal
working
team
and
I
asked
Mrs
workington
in
all
gold
star
spouses
and
families
in
the
audience.
Please
stand.
E
Ladies
and
gentlemen,
these
families
have
endured
the
unimaginable
loss
of
their
loved
one.
Yet,
despite
this
incredible
cost
paid
in
service
to
their
Nation,
they
remained
steadfast
the
embodiment
of
strength
and
resilience,
and
they
are
inspiration
to
us
all.
We
owe
them
a
debt
of
gratitude
for
their
sacrifice
for
our
nation,
please
give
them
another
round
of
applause.
You
may
take
your
seats.
E
Yellow
ribbon
has
become
a
symbol
of
support
for
the
military.
The
lyrics
convey
a
message
of
Hope
and
represent
the
connection
between
military
service
and
the
love
and
support
of
those
left
behind.
This
connection
is
clear
when
a
soldier
serves
their
spouse
and
family
also
Drew
such
was
the
case
with
Julie
Moore.
E
E
The
more
name
is
no
stranger
to
this
installation.
Al
began
his
career
here
trained
and
commanded.
Here
he
and
Julie
raised
their
family
here.
Helena
soldiers
stood
on
this
very
field
before
deploying
to
Vietnam
Julie
changed
how
the
Army
notified
and
cared
for
the
families
of
our
fallen
here
and
ultimately,
Hal
and
Julie
chose
to
be
interred
in
our
Cemetery
here
amongst
their
Troopers
Hal
and
Julie's
lives
came
full
circle
here.
They
are
part
of
the
fabric
of
this
post
as
we
rename
this
insulation.
E
It's
important
to
remember
its
proud
heritage
and
States,
backed
in
October
1918.
for
over
a
century.
This
post,
profoundly
impacted
our
nation
and
our
world,
shaping
the
course
of
history.
The
1920s
then
Lieutenant
Colonel
George
C
Marshall,
overhauled
infantry
training,
with
a
special
emphasis
on
tactics.
The
1930s
tank
infantry
School
developed,
combined
arms,
Warfare
doctors,
the
1940s,
the
Airborne
Tesla
tune
conducted
the
first
military
jumps
from
low
altitude
and.
E
General
Moore's
Battalion
won.
Seven
calves
developed
their
assault
tactics
with
helicopters.
They
were
introduced
during
the
Vietnam
war.
Today
we
continue
to
innovate
at
light
speed
with
the
integration
of
Advanced,
Technologies,
new
weapon
systems
and
vehicle
platforms
and
new
training
and
Doctrine.
E
As
we
move
forward
in
the
21st
century,
we
must
look
to
the
Future
and
the
challenges
and
opportunities
that
lie
ahead.
Our
Army
and
the
decisive
land
power
force
that
trains
here
will
remain
integral
to
the
defense
of
our
freedoms
and
our
way
of
life.
Our
mission
at
Fort
Moore
is
Central
to
our
army
success.
E
This
is
where
our
country's
National
Treasure,
its
Sons
and
Daughters,
come
to
train
and
we
make
a
handshake
with
America
every
time
they
arrive,
and
we
maintain
the
trust
and
confidence
of
the
American
people.
You,
trainees,
soldiers
and
leaders
come
here
to
be
better.
They
come
here
to
begin
their
careers
in
the
service
of
their
country
to
learn
the
basics
from
our
outstanding
drill.
Sergeants
prepare
to
be
non-conventional
officers
to
come
here
to
prepare
to
leave
platoons
troops,
companies
battalions
squadrons
and
brigades
and
the
Leadership
Lessons
they
learn
here
are
key.
E
The
words
of
Hal
Moore
quote
the
most
important
thing
I've
learned
is
that
soldiers
watch
what
their
leaders
do.
You
can
give
them
classes
and
lecture
forever,
but
it
is
your
personal
example.
They
will
follow
bottom
line.
We
at
Fort
Moore
make
our
army
better
and
the
operational
Force
relies
on
us
to
deliver.
E
I,
can't
think
of
a
more
powerful
or
important
Mission,
and
we
must
stay
on
The,
Cutting
Edge,
because
the
character
of
war,
the
means
and
ways
we
fight
is
always
changing,
but
the
nature
of
War
Remains,
the
Same,
a
brutal
contest
of
Wills
that
demands
cohesive
teams
of
soldiers
who
are
fit
disciplined
highly
trained,
have
the
will
to
win
and
epitomize
the
warrior
ethos,
because
in
war
winning
matters,
that's
how
Moore
said
there
is
no
second
place.
We
are
at
the
epicenter
of
winning
at
the
maneuver
Center
of
Excellence.
This
is
exactly
what
we
do.
E
Our
name
may
be
changing.
Our
mission
is
not.
We
will
continue
to
train
soldiers
and
leaders
to
fight
and
win
in
The
Crucible
of
ground
combat,
and
there
was
there
is
no
more
more
important
place
to
be
right
now
than
Fort.
Moore
Lieutenant
General,
Hal
and
Julie
Moore
were
courageous
leaders
and
Visionaries,
whose
lives
exemplify
duty,
honor
country,
and
each
time
we
pass
through
the
gates.
Their
legacy
will
inspire
us.
E
The
home
of
the
Infantry
and
armored
forces
will
be
named
after
two
people
who
not
only
embody
but
demonstrated
the
Army's
values,
one
on
the
battlefield,
the
other
on
the
home
front.
Moore
is
a
name
our
soldiers
and
our
mission
deserved,
because,
when
recruits
sign
on
to
be
all
they
can
be
in
the
army,
they
come
here
to
be
more.
E
Let
us
remember
the
words
of
Hal
Moore,
who
once
said
the
soldier
is
the
Army
and
no
Army
is
better
than
its
soldiers.
We
must
continue
to
take
care
of
our
soldiers
and
their
families
and
always
remember
those
who
made
the
ultimate
sacrifice.
This
is
example
the
more
set
forth
and,
from
this
day
forth,
there's
a
challenge.
We
must
live
up
to
the
more
name
each
and
every
day.
Thank
you
all
again
for
joining
us.
E
H
H
H
These
soldiers
were
instrumental.
You
know
survival
and
success
during
the
final
ability
X-ray
on
November
15
and
16th
1965.,
where
under
strength
after
the
science
overcame
two
days
of
attacks
by
two
and
a
half
North
Vietnamese
were
the
following.
Gentleman's
colleagues
and
friends
please
stand
and
a
label
and
remain
standard.
First

Commander
companies
respectively,
they
did
so
with
they
did
so
with
powerless
courage
and
professionalism
early
during
the
battle
of
the
seriously
injured,
the
plane
was
shot
for
their
shoulder
with
no
relieving
officer
available
to
reach
the
company
to
relieve
them.
They
continue
to
command
and
control
his
company
for
several
hours,
I
I
personally
owned
a
huge
back
to
Colonel
John
Aaron,
without
whom
I
would
never
have
been
able
to
join
17,
but
that's
a
different
story.
H
H
H
G
Thank
you
good
morning
my
name
is
Rebecca.
Yell
working
team
and
I
wrote
this
poem
in
memory
and
honor
of
my
late
husband,
Sergeant
backyard.
It's
called
the
ancient
Pride
respect
the
Angels
Cried
with
me.
No
one
knows
how
much
I've
cried.
No
one
knows
how
many
times
I
wished.
I'd
Die
is
life,
just
a
cruel
yang,
a
test
to
see
who
remains
sane
hours
on
end
staring
at
falling
rain.
G
G
G
G
Nine
and
a
half
years
later,
I've
rediscovered
love
with
God
working
too
I
discovered
purpose,
while
founding
the
Queen
City
chapter
of
gold,
star
wives,
I
found
companionship
at
Gatherings
and
reunions
across
the
country
and
I
found
great
friends
like
Tony
Nadal,
who
made
sure
that
I
was
always
invited
to
those
reused.
Thank
you
and
I'd
like
to
present
my
daughter,
my
second
daughter
third
day.
F
F
We
sadly
never
got
to
know
our
father,
but
her
mom
stood
proud
and
firm
in
keeping
his
memory
alive
with
us,
always
I'm,
proud
to
be
an
army,
brat,
I'm
thankful
and
grateful
for
family
military
families
and
all
the
incredible
soldiers
who
served
along
my
father,
Sergeant
back
down
with
that
I
turn
it
back
over
to
his
company
Commander
man.
We
all
greatly
respect
Tony,
Nadal.
H
Everything
he
did
and
every
part
of
his
life
General
Moore,
was
the
best
soldier.
I
ever
knew
or
worked.
Many
who
served
with
him
in
combine
Vietnam,
ese
I
worked
with
General
Moore
and
several
of
the
passage
besides
commanding
a
company,
doing
the
validation
x-ray,
as
well
as
the
awesome
and
on
the
battlefields.
That
was
also
the
S3
operations
officers
Cavalry
when
Journal
more
commanded.
H
H
H
H
H
H
H
H
During
that
company,
in
an
infantry
assault
dissolved
in
26
centimeters
Hill,
that
it
was
strong
and
then
enemies
back
and
forth
and
are
more
present
with
that
rifle
company,
an
act
of
leadership
from
actions
not
words
because
of
those
men
that
were
important
for
his
actions.
He
built
teams
for
his
actions
were
very
Victorious.
H
He
met
us
all
of
us
better
leaders
by
his
example.
Amur
was
a
great
Soldier
and
a
man
I
admired
I'm,
referring
him
to
him
as
how,
because
that's
the
way
I.
Remember
it.
That's
my
ultimate
role
model
and,
as
my
friend
for
many
years,
elmore's
service
made
me
better.
He
made
his
soldiers
better.
He
made
the
Army
better.
H
The
ending
of
his
post
in
honor
of
pal
and
Julie
will
serve
as
a
beacon
who
inspired
the
many
young
men
and
women
who
follow
them
with
honor
integrity
and
Allegiance
the
service
of
the
country.
One
such
man
who
followed
Hal,
spread
Legacy.
She
found
Julie's
youngest
son
David
like
his
father's,
the
West
Point
graduates
and
he
started
from
the
U.S
army
after
27
years
of
service
in
the
rank
of
firm
join
me.
Welcome
welcoming
him
today.
I
Thank
you
for
your
great
words
about
my
father
Tony,
my
mother,
as
well,
what
a
tremendous
day
for
me
and
our
family,
General
burrito
distinguished
guests,
Admiral
Howard,
naming
Commission
I'd,
also
like
to
highlight
the
men
of
the
third
Brigade
one,
seven,
two,
seven
and
other
supporting
units.
Thank
you
for
bringing
me
as
how
more
sun
into
his
dad
would
say,
your
perimeter
and
being
a
member
of
your
perimeter
and
allowing
me
to
know
you
and
know
your
service
and
your
honor
and
your
character
and
your
dignity.
I
I
I
We
believe
the
redesignation
of
Fort
Benning
is
unique
in
that
by
Alan
Julie
Moore's
example.
We
recognize
Army
families
as
essential
to
Army,
Readiness
and
Mission
accomplishment,
among
all
bases.
Fort
Benning
stands
alone,
since
this
redesignation
is
not
solely
about
a
name
or
one
person's
achievements,
but
instead
it
is
about
personal
character,
represented
by
Army
values,
reinforcing
the
fundamental
truth
that
soldiers
fight
as
a
team
on
the
Battlefront.
That
team
is
their
small
unit
on
the
home
front.
I
D
I
Thank
you,
Sergeant
MJ.
After
hearing
her
in
the
rehearsals
I
told
her
she
has
to
get
on
Spotify
because
I
want
to
hear
all
her
her
music
and
their
wonderful,
wonderful
voice,
mom.
Instead,
Mom
and
Dad's
life
was
founded
upon
love
of
God,
their
country
and
love
of
the
army.
My
Army,
as
they
would
say
we
remember
our
parents
because
of
this
love
and
how
they
help
us
grow
and
mature.
I
I
On
one
occasion,
Greg
was
with
his
schoolmates
in
Oslo,
and
a
lost
American
couple
came
up
and
asked
if
they
anyone
spoke
a
little
English,
so
Norwegian
kids
promptly
pointed
to
Greg
Who
provided
directions
in
perfect
American
English.
As
a
couple
departed.
He
heard
them
say
these
Norwegian
kids
are
really
smart.
That
boy
speaks
excellent
English.
I
My
father
would
not
hesitate
to
put
us
in
positions
that
demanded
personal
initiative
and
confidence.
The
very
same
attributes
he
expected
of
his
soldiers
mom
and
dad
taught
us
to
embrace
uncertainty
and
go
find
the
answers.
Mom
would
always
say
Bloom
where
you
were
planted.
We
proudly
call
ourselves
Army
brats
how
we
live.
The
Army
life
with
Mom
and
Dad
is
fundamental
to
our
outlook
on
adversity,
change
and
love.
I
Amidst
the
turbulence
of
military
life,
our
parents
strove
to
maintain
love
and
stability.
It
was
a
little
things
that,
with
time
and
perspective,
were
the
big
things
they
shipped
Julie's,
beloved,
parakeets
and
hamsters
to
Korea
and
back
when
other
parents
might
have
simply
rehomed
them.
Mom
even
made
an
emergency
run
to
a
pet
store
when
a
parakeet
suffered
an
untimely
death
to
be
talked
about
later
before
the
reception
that
they
were
hosting
General
Westmoreland
love,
support
and
commitment,
even
when
the
logic
of
the
situation
would
otherwise
dictate
on.
I
It
can
wait
moment
our
parents
instill
the
love
for
physical
fitness,
the
outdoors
and
travel
and
all
of
us
dad
was
proud.
Greg
and
Steve
became
the
youngest
Americans
to
receive
a
gold
medal
from
the
Norwegian
ski
Association
for
skiing
500
kilometers
in
a
single
winter,
while
assigned
to
Boston
we
fished
in
New
Hampshire
on
one
trip,
I
dropped,
the
fishing
pole
overboard.
I
Dad
was
concerned
about
losing
a
quote
sensitive
item.
He
volunteered
my
brother
Greg
to
dive
into
the
frigid
water
and
after
repeated
attempts,
Greg
exploded
to
the
top
with
the
fishing
pole,
I
suspect.
My
father
subsequently
secured
the
pole
to
my
wrist
with
550
cord,
a
skill
that
would
come
in
handy
years
later
at
Ranger
school
we
fished
hiked
picnic
and
ski
at
many
locations
along
our
journey.
While
my
sister
Cecile
was
in
high
school,
she
was
determined
to
go
on
a
class
ski
trip,
even
though
she'd
never
been
on
a
ski
slope.
H
I
I
My
parents
firmly
believed
a
Leader's
core
responsibility
is
establishing
a
vision
and
creating
a
future
upon
retirement.
The
future
they
created
themselves
reinforced
their
core
faith
and
character
beliefs.
They
reoriented
their
lives
to
engaging
with
grandkids
and
skiing.
The
Colorado
mountains
mom
took
her
first
job
at
the
age
of
49
as
a
cashier
at
a
gift
shop
in
Crested,
Butte
Colorado.
I
I
My
parents
facing
God
was
Paramount
to
quote
that
the
purpose
of
Our
Lives
on
this
Earth
is
to
make
the
cut
for
heaven.
In
his
final
years,
the
priests
of
Saint,
Michael's,
Catholic
Church,
would
visit
and
offer
communion.
During
one
visit,
the
free
staff
asked
Dad
if
he'd
like
to
confess
any
sins,
dad
thought
for
a
minute.
He
was
quiet
and
popped
on
said,
can't
think
of
anything.
I
A
I
My
parents,
phone
number
was
public,
Troopers
would
call
the
house
and
more
often
than
not,
they
would
talk
to
Mom
rather
than
Dad.
We
still
feel
their
presence.
Julie
seems
to
get
most
of
the
signs
from
Mom
and
Dad
these
days,
mom
loved
butterflies.
So
when
we
see
a
butterfly,
we
say
hi
Mom
our
family
is
grateful.
Deeply
grateful
that
our
parents
will
be
honored
remembered
and
held
as
role
models
for
the
generations
of
army
soldiers
in
these
stands
and
to
come,
they
loved
each
other,
they
loved
us.
