From YouTube: Columbus Connections - The Pastor's Academy
Description
Brittany Santiago sits down with Columbus Police J Dent-Fitzpatrick about their upcoming Pastor's Academy course coming up in April.
A
A
A
I'm
Brittany
Santiago
welcome
to
Columbus
connection
this
week.
We
have
a
surprise
in
store
we're
talking
about
how
Faith
leaders
can
get
involved
with
crime
prevention.
Here
in
Columbus
Georgia
today,
I'm
joined
by
assistant
chief
Joyce
Dent
Fitzpatrick,
with
the
Columbus
Police
Department.
How
you
doing
today.
B
Thank
you.
The
purpose
of
the
pastors
Academy
is
to
bring
the
faith-based
community
in
contact
with
the
law
enforcement
element.
We
have
a
program
that
lasts
approximately
one
to
five
weeks
and
we
meet
on
Mondays
we're
going
to
do
two
this
year
when
we
know
Mondays
from
one
to
five
and
we
have
different
divisions
from
our
Police
Department
come
in
and
give
them
a
take.
Some
of
it
will
be
a
tour
on
what
we
do
for
our
citizens.
B
One
of
the
highlights
of
this
class
is
getting
to
know
and
see
the
building
and
as
a
as
in
its
entirety
and
to
go
around
and
see
what
each
division
does.
We
also
try
to
put
the
the
classes
on
the
fax
machine
to
let
them
shoot
no
shoot
scenarios
to
see
what
the
officers
go
through
on
a
day-to-day
basis.
Also,
we
bring
in
our
911
system,
so
they
can
see
that
have
the
cause
of
Channel
and
how
we
dispatch
our
calls.
B
But,
moreover,
we
want
to
bridge
that
connection
between
our
faith
organizations
and
our
police
agencies
to
let
them
know
that
we
care
and
that
we
have
programs
in
place
and
they
can
take
those
back
to
their
congregants
and
then
let
them
know
how
we're
Bridging
the
Gap
to
bring
our
communities
together.
Okay,.
A
B
Yes,
ma'am.
Thank
you
for
bringing
that
up,
because
this
is
not
just
specifically
for
pastors.
It
could
be
for
the
deacons
it
could
be
for
the
elders
it
could
be
for
choir
members.
It
could
be
for
anybody
who
has
an
administrative
position
in
a
church.
It's
just
based
on
faith,
and
we
also
want
to
let
people
know
that
we
welcome
every
denomination.
There
is
no
guideline
we're
just
saying
the
faith
base
of
congregation
of
faith-based
churches
out
there,
which
includes
the
synagogues
and
the
more
okay.
A
B
So
we
started
something
new
this
year
and
I'm
very
excited
about
it
because
we
like
to
know
who's
in
the
room
with
us.
We
like
to
know
where
you're
coming
from
so
we
do
have
an
application
process.
It's
basically
just
getting
your
name
address
and
if
you
belong
to
a
you,
have
an
affiliation
with
a
church
and
you
do
not
have
to
have
that
affiliation
with
a
church.
B
It's
just
a
faith-based
organization,
and
that
is
on
our
website
and
you
can
go
to
the
www.columbus.org
columbusga.org
backslash
police,
and
then
we
have
our
pastors
Academy
applications
over
there.
And
we
do
we
started
this
this
year.
We
do
do
a
local
background
check
just
to
make
sure
we
don't
have
people
in
the
room
who
should
not
necessarily
be
in
the
room
right
to
learn
how
to
do
things.
So
we're
very
excited
about
that,
and-
and
it
gives
us
a
sense
of
security
on
what
we're
doing
and
who
we're
teaching
it
to.
B
A
So
let's
talk
about
this
I
know:
we've
gotten
a
couple
of
questions
about
a
cost
for
this
class.
Is
there
a
cost
for
this
class?
Oh.
A
C
Is
this
is
community.
B
Engagement,
this
is
our
21st.
This
is
our
21st
century
policing.
We're
we're
reaching
out
to
show
you
what
we
do.
We
want
you
to
see.
We
want
to
be
transparent
in
what
we
do.
We
want
you
to
understand
what
these
officers
go
through
on
a
day-to-day
basis.
We
want
you
to
see
what
it's
like
to
get
field
to
call.
We
want
you
to
see
how
we
dispatch
the
call.
We
want
you
to
see
how
we
interact
when
people
come
into
the
library
for
dead
services
to
get
a
report.
B
We
want
you
to
see
how
we
recruit.
We
want
to
see
I
want
you
to
see
how
we
do
our
investigations.
We
have
every
Walk
of
Life
and
every
division
that
will
come
in
and
give
you
a
block
on
what
we
do
at
the
Columbus
Police
Department.
In
addition
to
that
not
being
a
cause,
we
do
provide
our
little
snacks.
B
Take
very
we
take
a
lot
of
pride
in
what
we
do
with
the
pastors
Academy
we're
very
excited
about
it.
Everybody
in
our
building
is
especially
the
people
who
we
tasked
with
helping
with
the
passengers
Academy.
It's
not
just
me.
I
I
have
a
beautiful,
wonderful
staff
of
people
who
work
and
make
sure
we
have
the
food
that
they
need.
They
take
pride
in
picking
it
up,
make
sure
that
we
have
water
drinks
and
make
sure
everyone
is
taken
care
of,
and
if
we
have
anything
left
over,
it's
always
hey.
B
A
B
Correct
we
have
grandparents
and
parents
who
are
trying
to
deal
with
raise
with
life
and
raising
children
and
grandchildren,
and
what
we've
seen
is
that
our
faith-based
community
can
get
the
word
out
to
our
community,
the
citizens
and
take
it
back
and
tell
them
hey
this.
That's
not
what
the
Columbus
Police
Department
did.
Let
me
tell
you
the
ins
and
outs.
Let
me
give
you
a
scenario
that
we
saw.
Let
me
tell
you
what
we
had
to
do
there.
B
Let
me
give
you
some
information
on
how
9-1-1
is
working,
how
they're
Fielding
your
calls,
how
these
people
are
trained,
how
they
go
to
schools,
how
they're
getting
their
certificates,
it's
a
very
educated
and
very
demanding
job,
but
it's
educational
based
and
certificate
based,
and
we
take
pride
in
knowing
that
our
officers
and
our
911
dispatchers
and
pretty
much
everybody
has
to
go
through
some
type
of
training
annually
to
keep
our
certificates
and
make
sure
that
we
know
how
to
interact
with
our
citizens.
A
A
A
C
B
Hands
on
deck
does
not
just
mean
the
police
department
in
the
law
enforcement
Arena,
it
means
all
hands
on
deck
and
we
have
numerous
churches
and
faith-based
organizations
here
in
our
community
and
we
are
soliciting
help
from
them
to
bring
back
to
the
citizens.
Everybody
can't
get
to
this
class
and
I'm
very
thankful
that
we
are
able
to
give
two
classes
this
year.
B
Yes,
that's
a
big,
pivotal
point
with
us
moving
forward,
because
last
year
we
only
could
do
one
class
and
in
the
past
years,
because
of
covid-19,
we
were
not
able
to
assemble
and
a
lot
of
the
churches
were
not
able
to
assemble.
They
had
to
do
things
virtually,
and
so
we
didn't
want
to
do
our
pastors
Academy
class.
Virtually
we
really
wanted
Hands-On.
We
wanted
people
to
understand
and
listen
and
see
and
talk
to
these
officers
who
are
presenting
the
classes
and
they're
our
own
officers,
we're
not
calling
in
people
to
present.
B
What's
going
on
in
Columbus,
we
are
in-house
we're
telling
you
what
we
see
we're
telling
you
what
we
go
through
on
a
day-to-day
cases,
and
we
want
you
to
understand
that
so
my
takeaway
would
be
to
support
us
get
out
here
and
tell
them
hey.
Columbus,
Police
Department
is
doing
what
they
need
to
do
and
I'm
going
to
stand
with
them
and
I'm
going
to
support
them.
That's.
C
B
B
Our
Command
Staff
comes
down
for
that
certificate
ceremony,
and
that
means
a
lot
because
we
want
them
to
know
that
you
just
graduated
from
something.
That's
just
so
that's
a
great
achievement.
That's
how
we
felt
when
we
graduated
from
the
academy.
So
when
you
graduate
from
our
pastors
Academy,
we
want
to
embrace
you
as
well.
We
have
a
big
celebration
with
that:
we're
also
in
inviting
their
family
members
to
come
to
see
them
get
their
certificate
to
make
sure
that
we
are
in
we're
family
oriented
we're
family
based.
B
We
are
a
police
department
that
cares
about
each
other,
but
we
also
care
about
our
citizens,
and
we
want
our
pastors
to
go
back
in
their
administrators
and
church
leaders
and
choir
people
and
people
who
are
administrators
in
the
church
to
go
back
and
say:
hey
you
need
to
take
this
class.
I
took
this
class.
It's
not
to
teach
anybody
how
to
be
a
pastor.
I
was
going
to.
B
We're
not
we're
we're
not
equipped
for
that.
That
was
not
our.
That
was
not
our
assignment.
It's
not.
B
I
said
I
assigned
Mr
Gap
and
to
make
a
place
for
our
faith-based
leaders
and
administrators
to
come
to
learn
about
what
we
do
and
then
take
it
back
to
their
congregations
and
then
tell
somebody
tell
somebody
tell
somebody
so
and
the
next
class
will
be
in
October
of
this
year.
A
We'll
get
look
first,
things.
First,
we're
going
to
talk
about
the
class
coming
up
in
April,
okay,
so
classes
start
April
3rd,
that's
a
Monday,
and
it's
going
to
be
each
Monday
through
May,
1st,
first
okay
and
it's
from
1
P.M
to
five
o'clock
food.
We
have
food.
Yes,
we
do
important
that
we
talk
about.
We
have
food
but,
more
importantly,
like
we're
talking
about
bridging
a
gap
right
between
the
Columbus,
Police
Department
and
the
community
and
we're
this
is
one
of
our
Avenues
and
I
say
one
of
our
let's.
A
In
case
you
hear
me
say
we
we
it's
a
team
all
right,
so
it's
very
much
a
team
and
but
they're
gonna
get
a
lot
of
valuable
information
here,
absolutely
and
they're
going
to
be
able
to
take
that
back
to
their
congregation,
whatever
places
of
worship
and
it's
it's
we're
inclusive
of
all
walks
of
Faith.
Like
right
all
right,
so
it's
good.
If
anything
else,
you
wanted
to
add
to
it.
B
A
B
Then,
when
they
have
to
call
the
police
to
their
churches
or
have
to
call
the
police
to
situations
that
they
have
are
privy
to,
that
crosses
that
line
to
criminal
element,
they're
telling
us
how
they
feel
about
that
too,
and
the
responses
that
we
have
give
have
that
we
have
received
have
been
very
accommodating
to
how
we
train
in
our
professionalism.
So
we
thank
the
classes
and
the
students
so
to
say
right.
C
A
C
A
B
We
thank
goodness
we
do
have
a
Pio,
an
IPO
does
all
of
that
Miss
Brittany
Santiago,
and
when
she
gets
those
applications
she
sends
those
directly
to
us
and
when
I
say
us,
it's
a
team.
Yes,.
C
B
My
secretary
Miss
Veronica
green,
who
gets
them
and
make
sure
that
they
go
to
the
records
room
and
that's
another
part
of
the
team,
those
people
who
work
in
the
records
room.
They
do
the
background,
then,
when
they
finish
with
that
they
bring
it
back.
We
put
in
a
file
and
I
believe
we
have
a
cut
off
date
too,
for
this
particular
class
I.
Believe
it's
March.
B
Is
it
March
15th
March
15th,
it's
cut
off.
So
if
you
get
your
applications
in
by
that
date
and
we'll
start
calling
people
to
tell
them
that
they
are
have
been
accepted
to
that
class.
That
starts
in
April.
A
A
We
appreciate
you
thank
you
for
telling
us
about
how
Faith
leaders
can
get
involved
with
choir
prevention,
and
anyone
like
we
have
lots
of
programs
that
are
coming
up,
but
pastor's
Academy
is
the
one
that's
next
on
the
docket
for
us
and
we
look
forward
to
it
and
thank
you
so
much
for
spearheading
it
like
you
always
do
you
make
it
look
easy.
It.
