A
A
Welcome
to
Columbus
connection
hi
I'm
Michael
King
setting
in
for
David
Britt.
Well,
it
is
the
last
of
September
and
it's
officially
fall
and
one
of
the
things
that
happened
in
Fall.
Actually
as
we
get
into
October,
is
that's
the
annual
Paint
The
Town
Pink
celebration.
Here
today
we
have
our
guest
Miss
Cheryl
Johnson,
who
is
over
the
council
Coalition
for
West
Central,
Georgia
yep.
A
B
This
again
well,
Michael,
probably
14
years
ago,
we
were
as
a
board-
and
you
know,
as
myself
just
sitting
around
thinking
about
how
could
we
make
an
impact
in
our
community?
And
so
at
that
time
there
weren't
any
breast
cancer
walks
or
runs
or
any
of
that
thing
in
within
our
region,
and
so
we
we
thought
about
hey:
let's
do
a
Paint,
The,
Town
Pink
walk
run.
B
There
were
some
being
done
in
other
areas,
and
so
we
wanted
to
bring
it
here
and
part
of
that
was
to
raise
funds
for
our
neighbors
helping
neighbors
cancer
assistance
fund
and
that
particular
fund
is
to
help
cancer
patients
who
are
actively
in
treatment
with
their
daily
basic
living
expenses
when
life
happens
and
that
is
to
assist
with
their
lives
their
gas,
their
mortgage
Transportation
assistance
just
to
help
offset
the
cost
and
reduce
the
burden
of
cancer.
I.
A
A
Course
we
at
ccg
TV.
We
want
to
do
our
part
about
making
sure
that
we
get
the
message
out
so
that
people
would
know
about
all
the
different
activities
now
I
know,
there's
an
activity
going
on
this
weekend.
We
may
not
have
this
show
on
the
air
by
there,
but
tell
us
some
of
the
things
that
it's
going
to
be
going
on.
B
Well,
we
had
the
butterfly
release,
which
was
September
23rd,
and
that
is
actually
the
kickoff
to
paint
the
town
pink.
Where
live,
butterflies
are
released
in
memory
in
honor
of
a
caregiver
or
someone
who's
lost
the
Journey
of
the
battle
of
cancer,
but
interactive.
We
have
various
vendors
there,
and
so
that
particular
event
is
always
a
fun
event
for
the
family
to
come
out,
learn
about
West,
Central,
Georgia
cancer,
Coalition
learn
about
cancer
and
other
in
a
positive
life,
because
a
lot
of
times
when
a
person
hears
the
c
word
cancer.
A
B
B
Not
the
big
that
that's
correct
and
we
at
the
West
Central
Georgia
cancer
Coalition.
We
do
help
those
persons
that
are
uninsured
and
underinsured
to
get
those
necessary
screenings
that
they
may
need
for
breast,
cervical,
prostate
colorectal
cancer,
and
so
we
have
Community
Partners
that
we
work
with.
But
if
there
is
a
woman
or
a
man
who
needs
a
breast
screening
or
mammogram,
it
is
free,
there's
no
cost.
We
just
recently
received
a
grant
from
the
state
of
Georgia
through
the
breast
cancer
licensing
Grant,
and
we
are
we.
B
A
B
Us
some
of
the
activities
that's
going
to
be
going
on.
You
know
this.
Everyone
always
says
Cheryl,
that's
your
favorite
time
of
the
year.
It
is
because
we
get
to
paint
the
city
pink,
our
our
city
manager,
the
the
mayor.
You
all
all
have
just
embraced:
Paint
The,
Town
Pink
and
you
will
see
the
fountains
pink.
We
are
planning
to
have
the
Civic
Center,
the
red.
The
ice
will
be
pink,
there's
a
peak
ribbons
will
be
around
and
on
Tuesday
the
the
17th.
Well,
let
me
start
Sunday.
B
We
consider
that
Pink
Sunday,
where
congregations
or
faith-based
faith-based
organizations
can
choose
the
West
Central
Georgia,
as
their
charity
of
choice,
take
up
a
donation.
Those
funds
can
be
sent
in
or
you
can
drop
them
off
at
our
new
office,
which
is
at
the
office
of
Cunningham
on
3100,
Denton
Boulevard.
So
that's
pink
Sunday,
then
on
Tuesday
October,
17th,
It
Is
by
appointments
only,
but
but
every
year
Dr
Kenneth
Smith
with
Piedmont
Columbus
Regional,
the
John
B
M
is
cancer
center.
He
donates
his
time.
B
B
706-660-9516
and
ask
for
Miss,
Darla,
Spencer
or
just
say,
I'd
like
to
get
on
the
schedule
for
the
screening
on
the
17th
and
then
Friday.
The
20th
is
the
big
paint,
the
town
P.
We
are
painting
Woods
of
Park
pink,
that's
where
it
is,
but
you'll
need
to
go
and
unrunsignup.com
to
register
the
registration,
for
the
walk
is
25
for
the
run.
It's
35,
it's
included
a
t-shirt,
but
there's
also
those
Survivor
parade.
That
starts
at
six
o'clock.
B
The
survivors
are
going
to
meet
at
the
West
Central
Georgia
cancer
coalition's
table
that
we
will
have
giveaways.
It's
going
to
be
an
exciting
time,
we'll
have
a
DJ.
We
have
a
stage
and
just
the
community
coming
together,
all
walks
of
life.
Everyone
that's
been
impacted
by
cancer
in
some
way
that.
A
I
got
a
pink
jacket
and
I
didn't
know.
I
was
going
to
host
this
program
today
and
I've
wore
this,
and
when
I
found
out
David
wasn't
going
to
be
here.
I'm
like
oh
man,
I
wanted
to
at
least
you
know
say
that
I
I
am
acknowledging
this
and
wanted
to
do
whatever
I
can
to
participate.
But
of
course
again,
several
people
in
my
family
has
been
had
breast
cancer,
so
it
affected
me
and
other
people
and
I
want
to
do
what
I
can
to
help
acknowledge
and
participate.
B
People
can
call
they
can
call
our
office
at
706-660-9516
and
just
say
I'd
like
to
make
a
donation
or
I'd
like
to
sign
up
for
the
screening
with
Miss
Darla
Spencer
and
then
with
the
Run
sign
up,
which
is
the
Paint
The
Town
Pink
walk
run.
You
can
go
to
runsignup.com
and
choose
your
selection.
The
price
does
increase
after
October
13th
after
October
10th
there's
no
guarantee
of
a
T-shirt
size,
because
we
have
people
that
walk
up
and
say:
oh
I
want
a
t-shirt.
B
Well,
we
have
to
order,
and
we
have
a
great
vendor
here
in
town
Miss,
Loretta
Cobb.
She
is
the
person
that
helps
us
wonderful.
We
we
have
so
many
volunteers.
I
cannot,
you
know,
say
it
enough:
Miss,
Barbara,
Thompson,
Miss,
Bridget,
all
seed
she's
a
volunteer
coordinator.
So,
if
you'd
like
to
volunteer
it's
not
too
late,
you
can
go
to
the
runsignup.com
to
volunteer.
We
know
that
there
are
groups
out
there
that
would
like
to
volunteer
or
just
individuals
or,
if
you're,
unable
to
walk,
just
come
and
sit
back
and
relax
and
enjoy.
