From YouTube: Columbus Connections - Sylvester Seldon
Description
Director of the Shirley B. Winston Recreational Center Sylvester Seldon talks with David about their upcoming youth basketball league.
A
A
Welcome
to
Columbus
connections:
I
am
your
host
David
Britt
and
we
are
talking
Columbus,
youth,
basketball.
That's
right!
If
you
have
kids
that
are
interested
in
learning
how
to
play
or
if
they
happen
to
some
experience
they
want
to
play
basketball.
That
league
is
going
on
now.
Sign
ups
are
going
on.
Now
we
are
going
to
tell
you
all
the
information
about
how
to
get
your
kids
signed
up
where
they
need
to
go
and
what
you
can
expect.
I
have
with
me
a
guest
here,
who's
going
to
tell
you.
A
He
is
a
program
director
for
one
of
the
rec
centers
here.
Tell
us
your
name
where
you're
from
and
how
you
got
involved
with
Columbus
youth,
basketball.
B
A
Now
this
is
really
a
big
tradition
in
Columbus
people
have
been
playing
Columbus
youth
basketball
for
years
and
years,
and
it
keeps
on
going
because
it
gives
kids
something
to
do
during
the
during
that
time
of
the
year
it
engages
them.
It
teaches
them
about
basketball,
to
builds
teamwork
and
character
and
all
those
things.
So
it's
a
great
service
that
is
a
provided
to
the
community
for
a
pretty
good
cost
too.
B
A
B
Have
a
very
wide
age
range.
We
begin
at
the
age
of
four
years
old,
and
that
starts
based
on
the
month
of
September
1st,
so
September
1st.
If
they
are
four
year
old,
four
years
or
older,
they
can
play
with
us.
We
go
up
to
the
age
of
14.
We
accept
girls
as
well
as
boys,
our
four
to
six
year
olds.
They
play
an
instructional
League,
it's
about
a
six-week,
long
lead
our
seven
and
eight
year
olds
are
co-ed.
A
B
Yes,
we
can
we,
we
accept
all
age
groups,
all
skill
levels.
We
have
great
coaches,
who
work
with
children
who
are
inexperienced,
and
this
is
their
first
time
so
they're
in
being
introduced
into
the
game,
and
we
have
coaches
that
work
with
those
players
who
have
been
playing
for
several
years
and
they
just
keep
coming
back
year
after
year
to
play.
Columbus
youth,
basketball,
yeah.
B
Think,
oh,
it's
a
good
time.
They
learn
they're
nurtured,
we
take
care
of
them
and
we
and
we
really
have
their
best
interests.
Everybody
wants
to
win
basketball
games,
but
the
number
one
thing
for
us
is
developing
the
child
and
developing
the
player,
allowing
them
to
get
out
have
an
activity
and
have
a
lot
of
fun
while
they're
doing
it.
A
Yeah
I
think
that's
where
a
lot
of
parents
are
with
it.
They
want
their
kid
to
have
a
fun
experience,
of
course,
learn
to
play.
Basketball,
of
course,
win
some
games,
but
they
also
want
a
safe
environment.
They
also
want
to
invite
more
their
kids
going
to
learn
and
be
nurtured
and
again
feel
safe
right.
B
And
at
Columbus
parks
and
Rick
with
Columbus
basketball,
we
feel
that
we
do
a
great
service
to
the
community
by
providing
a
safe
environment.
All
of
our
cultures
are
screened,
just
as
if
they
were
coming
in
and
getting
a
job
with
Columbus,
Parks
and
Rec.
They
do
a
great
job
facilitating
to
the
youth
and
to
the
kids.
Nobody
is
disparaging
to
the
kids.
There
are
great
coaches
at
every
Recreation
Center
here
in
the
city.
Now.
B
B
We
need
three
things
in
order
to
sign
each
child
up.
You
need
a
check
or
money
or
order
in
the
amount
of
forty
five
dollars
made
out
to
Columbus,
Park
and
Recreation.
You
need
a
birth
certificate
and
you
need
the
registration
form
and
that
registration
form
is
already
at
each
facility.
When
you
go
in
with
your
birth
certificate
and
your
money
order
or
check,
you
can
fill
out
your
registration
form
right
there,
we'll
have
them
signed
up
and
we'll
get
them
on
a
roster
gotcha.
B
Me
one
to
them
they
can.
They
can
go
to
anyone
if
you
want
to
play
at
a
specific
one,
but
you
are
closer
to
a
different
one.
It's
fine!
You
can
still
sign
up
at
that.
One
fill
out
your
registration
form
and
let
them
know
exactly
where
you
want
to
play
at
you
can
walk
into
any
wreck
Google.
It
give
them
a
call
and
get
any
information
that
you
need
on
Columbus,
youth,
basketball
from
any
Recreation
Center
in
the
city.
A
A
Our
money
order,
no
cash,
please
tell
us
again
what
else
would
they
need?
They'll.
B
B
A
Is
fun
it's
safe?
It's
for
the
kids!
It's
for
the
community,
make
sure
if
you're
interested
in
signing
up
check
out
one
of
these
rec
centers
and
look
at
the
website
for
Columbus
parks
and
we're
going
to
look
at
the
great
things
that
they
do
for
the
community
again,
we'll
see
y'all
guys
on
the
on
the
court
and
thanks
for
watching
Columbus
connection.
