Columbus Connection Subject Grow STEAM x and Kappa wine sip
A
Welcome
to
Columbus
connections:
I
am
your
host
David
Britt
and
today
we
are
talking
about:
let's
grow
C
mix
and
the
first
ever
annual
River
City
soapbox
derby.
Now
let's
go
steam,
a
quick
enough
for
me
with
them.
If
you
have
a
child
who
is
in
the
elementary
school
or
younger
child
and
they
went
to
a
career
fair
last
year,
this
incident
I
swing.
A
They
are
one
of
two
thousand
kids
that
went
there
that
was
done
by
let's
go
steam,
X
they're,
big
on
science,
technology,
engineering,
art
and
mathematics,
and
they
bring
fun
exciting
activities
and
adventures
to
kids
and
help
them
learn
those
activities
through
STEM
science,
technology,
engineering,
art,
mathematics.
So
that's
what
they're
doing
I
have
Miss
Robby
brands:
computer
she's,
the
CEO
of
let's
go
steamed
eggs,
we're
going
to
talk
a
little
bit
about
the
LGS
X
and
the
soapbox
derby.
Welcome
to
the
show
welcome!
Thank
you.
There's
no
choice.
B
Let's
go
steamed
eggs,
we
are
a
youth
experience
platform
and
we're
educationally
based,
like
you
said,
in
steam,
so
science,
technology,
engineering,
arts
and
math,
but
also
beyond
that,
because
we
believe
that
we
should
be
making
a
connection
with
what
kids
are
learning
in
the
classroom
to
their
future
career
path
and
so
whatever
that
may
be,
whether
they
want
to
be
a
fireman
or
an
engineer
or
an
entrepreneur,
we're
here
to
create
activities
to
sort
of
ignite
that
passion
within
them
early
so
that
they
can
find
their
pathway.
That's
interesting.
A
Some
kids
ask
me
one
time
you
know
well,
I
was
asking
kids.
What
do
you
want
to
do
you
grow
up,
and
when
we
ask
that
question
you
don't
realize
there
are
jobs.
That
kids
have
no
idea
are
even
there
or
more.
So
they
have
no
idea
that
they
may
be
qualified
for
them.
So
what
you
guys
do
is
is
do
those
these
activities
kind
of
get
them
in
that
mode
like
hey.
This
is
when
you
hear
engineer,
you
have
no
idea
what
that.
C
C
B
A
B
When
we
host
the
Career
Expo,
it
gives
kids
an
opportunity
to
come
in
and
actually
do
hands-on
activities
that
are
related
to
those
careers
and
then
has
an
opportunity
to
ask
questions
that
they're
level
to
people
that
are
actually
working
in
those
careers.
So
it's
hopefully
you
know
something
again
want
to
ignite
their
imagination
and
give
them
an
opportunity
to
get
the
questions
out
ya.
B
Oh,
yes,
yes,
yes,
okay!
So
we're
really
excited
about
this
one.
So
this
is
our
newest
event
and
soapbox
derby
has
been
around
for
years.
I
mean
it's
over
70
years
and
we're
with
a
will
recognized
and
organized
organization.
That's
based
out
of
Akron
and
we
will
be
hosting
the
soapbox
derby
here
in
Columbus,
July
29th,
so
Saturday
July
29th
is
coming
up,
know
next
Saturday
yuujiro
from
July
29th,
and
so
what
we
did.
B
We
did
it
differently,
so
we
recognized
pretty
early
on
that
a
soapbox
car
is
not,
or
the
soapbox
derby
is
not
the
same
as
it
used
to
be
back
in
the
day
we
still
kept,
though
the
family
orientation
around
it,
because
we
believe
that
you
know
having
family
present
during
the
learning
process.
It
only
makes
the
child
more
successful.
B
B
B
Right
because
that's
important,
you
know
we're
there
for
a
few
hours,
and
so
we
recognize
that
kids
can
you
know
interests,
so
we
try
to
do
things
that
are
really
fun,
but
that
that
also
ties
into
the
overall
activity
and
some
of
the
fun
things
that
we've
done
with
the
kids
we've
created
slime,
we
created
balloon,
racer
cars
and
it
gives
them
an
opportunity
to.
You
know,
work
in
science
and
engineering,
but
in
a
really
fun
and
relevant
way.
How.
B
Had
we're
pleased
to
say,
we've
had
over
250
kids,
this
first
season
to
participate
and
they've
all
done
it
for
free
and
they've
all
turned
it
for
free
thanks
thanks
to
our
sponsors
and
partners.
So
we
have
some
great
sponsors,
like
Liberty
utilities,
Fountain
City
Classic.
We
have
the
Columbus
Museum,
so
just
to
name
a
few
of
those
spots
right.
A
A
B
A
B
And
so
we're
working
with
kids
from
ages
7
to
16
this
first
year,
however,
we
can
expand
our
program
and
we
will
expand
it
to
include
kids
as
young
as
five
and
all
the
way
up
to
21
we're
going
to
grow
the
program
in
that
way.
So
they'll
be
there's
they'll
see
the
cars
they'll,
see
the
kids
they'll,
see
families
they'll,
see
families
out
there
supporting
their
racer
and
they'll
see
families.
You
know
whether
it's
grandma
or
grandpa
aunt
your
uncle
bills
feed
them
out.
B
B
A
B
Kick
off
the
race
at
9:00,
we'll
do
something:
that's
really
fun
around
11:30
a.m.
which
is
called
our
Community
Fund
run.
So
we
have
Uptown,
Columbus
and
Midtown
Inc
they'll
be
racing
each
other
for
the
first
community
organizations
fund,
run
and
as
part
of
our
fundraiser,
so
that
we
can
raise
funds
to
continue
the
free
clinics
and.
A
B
A
A
It's
going
to
be
fun
for
all
ages,
they're
going
to
have
a
lot
of
stuff
going
on
you
get
to
support
local
kids,
who
have
been
there,
these
local
kids,
who
are
from
your
community,
who
have
been
doing
a
lot
of
work.
Now?
How
can
people
contact
your
thing?
Maybe
they
want
to
sign
up
for
next
year?
They
want
to
see
what's
going
on
in
the
context.
B
A
B
You
mean
putting
the
actual
event
together,
yeah
well,
fortunately,
fortunately,
I'll
say
I
have
experience
in
that
with
being
a
former
Event
Manager
and
being
a
program
manager,
and
so
there
are
a
lot
of
workings
that
goes
on
behind
the
scenes.
With
volunteers,
we
have
a
team
of
volunteers
and
a
board
that
is
very
supportive
and
we
just
all
work
together
to
ensure
that
we
can
provide
the
best
experience
for
the
community
when
they
come
out.
So
it's
a
lot
of
working
going
on
behind
the
scenes.
All.
A
Right,
Saturday,
July
29th
go
check
out
this
River
City
soapbox
derby
from
that's
gross.
They
mix
and
keep
your
eye
out
keep
a
watch
out.
Follow
them
on
Facebook
they've
got
a
lot
of
race
stuff
coming
up.
Now,
though,
you're
going
to
talk
to
Ed
Williams
about
a
great
another
event,
stay
tuned,
bicycles,.
C
Are
plenty
of
any
age
just
remember
the
rules
of
the
road
when
you're
out
enjoying
a
bike
ride
and
motorists
when
you're
sharing
the
road
with
cyclists,
use
caution
and
give
at
least
three
feet
when
passing
bicycles
are
safe,
fun
and
sensible
when
you
ride,
be
visible,
be
predictable
and
be
alert,
you'll
have
a
safe
ride
and
a
great
time.
Let's
get
there
together,
Georgia
a
message
from
the
governor's
office
of
Highway,
Safety
and
Georgia
bikes.
Welcome.
A
A
D
A
D
D
A
D
D
It'll
be
hit,
others,
we
have
a
nice
little
spread
for
people
to
put
take
of
the
wine
and
libation
that
we
would
have
there,
and
so
we
will
help
them
type
it
over
to
so
it'll
be
a
good
night.
If
you
like
to
purchase
a
ticket,
you
go
through
a
PayPal
account.
The
PayPal
account
I'm
gonna,
give
it
to
you
in
phonetically
whole
art.
D
A
D
We're
having
a
raffle-
this
is
a
fundraiser
also.
This
will
help
to
raise
money
for
the
scholarship
that
we're
going
to
be
passing
out.
We
had
the
tickets
are
$5
and
we're
going
to
be
wrapping
up
a
flat
screen,
TV
hook
a
nice
bottom
here,
grill
and
credit
card,
a
gift
card
nice
for
those
people,
and
you
can
go
to
the
same
website
to
purchase
a
raffle
tickets,
the
$5.
So
if
all
the
money
will
go
toward
our
scholarship
funds
and.
A
D
A
A
D
And
yeah:
that's
what
cap
is
all
about?
What
you'd
like
to
mentor
young
men
who
want
to
strive
to
improve
themselves
and
we
take
in
the
young
men
to
kind
of
mentor
them
and
as
a
reward.
We
give
them
scholarship,
but
we
also
the
scholarships
are
open
to
the
public.
Yes,
they
can
go
to
the
website
and
apply
for
the
scholarship,
so
I
think
the
date
is
still
open
right
now.
So
we
you
in
need
of
a
scholarship,
go
to
that
website
and
apply
foot
forward
right.
D
The
event
is
cover
doctor
what
Duane
tree
Jake's
simple
scholarships
would
be
12
August
at
the
Galleria.
The
girls
will
open
at
6
o'clock
and
we
will
start
a
wine
taste
at
7:00
following
the
wine
taste.
We
will
go
into
our
scholarship
presentation.
After
the
scholarship
presentation,
we
were
going
to
our
social
hour,
it'll
be
at
the
Galleria
on
the
12th
of
August,
starting
at
6
o'clock.
Gotcha.
D
A
D
Rewarding
cuz
we
had
one
young
man,
I
was
amazed.
You've
got
a
scholarship,
he
was
ring
number
ten
in
the
nation
of
among
high
school
high
school
seniors
and
he
had
a
4.6
Oh
Rafe
whenever
stuff
I
never
heard
of
before,
because
when
I'm
in
high
school,
if
you
had
a
footprint,
no
you
were
super
smart,
but
this
young
man
was
very
smart.
He
was
real
hard
going.
He
was
went
to
Duke
University,
he
is
made.
He
was
going
to
be
with
a
pre-med
major
and
he
wanted
the
orthopedic
surgeon.
D
That
was
his
goal
in
LA.
That's
what
he'd
been
going
through
the
whole
time
and
this
education
to
do
that,
and
so
he's
done
very
well.
So
we
have
another
young
man
who
gave
a
scholarship
Lasha
he's
at
Kennesaw
State,
who
he
grew
up
with
Kappas.
His
father
was
a
Kappa,
and
so
he
knew
a
bunch
of
effort
as
he
was
growing
up.
So
you
had
no
choice,
that's
what
he
was
going
to
pledge
but
write.
D
He
was
a
Cap'n
down.
He
is
a
captain
and
he's
like
we
all,
as
as
young
men,
we
idolize
some
young,
some
something
a
person
who
have
pruned
us
who
wrote,
who
big
role
model
for
us
and
as
I
was
growing
up
in
Louisiana
I
had
a
bunch
of
role
models
where
I
played
a
lot
of
sports
yeah.
You
know
these
coaches
I
played
against
with
all
Kappa.
My
coach
was
a
kafir,
and
so
as
I
grew
up
and
with
the
military
and
got
out
with
the
college
and
graduate
from
college
talks
to
the.

a
great

great

learning
more
about

and
it
goes

you

these
events
make

that
are
going

as
always,
thanks
for
