From YouTube: Columbus Connections - Lula Lunsford Huff, C.P.A.
Description
Lula and David talk about the waiver/refund of second installment property tax penalty or interest and how the deadline is February 28th.
A
Foreign
welcome
to
Columbus
connections.
I
am
your
host
David
Britt
and
hopefully
your
Year
is
off
to
a
good
start,
we're
closing
out
the
month
of
February,
and
we
have
some
great
organizations
doing
some
great
things
in
the
month
of
February.
We're
going
to
talk
about
that.
But
first
we
have
some
updates
from
our
Muskogee
County
Tax
Commissioner
Lula
Lunsford
Huff.
A
A
A
B
We
just
want
to
remind
the
citizens
about
that
deadline
and
that
pertains
to
the
waiver
and
refund
of
the
second
installment
property
tax
payments,
the
waiver
of
the
penalties
and
the
interest
that
individuals
have
and
that's
why
I
really
wanted
to
be
able
to
come
at
this
point,
because
February
28th
right
on
Tuesday
Wednesday,
that
is,
is
the
last
day
the
citizens
can
apply
for
that
waiver
of
their
penalties
or
taxes
or
get
the
refund
if
they've
already
paid
for
it,
and
that's
what
we
really
want
to
emphasize
is
that
time
is
running
out.
B
I
guess
I
would
I
would
say
that
it's
important
to
emphasize
here
that
this
is
a
one-time
initiative.
That
Council
has
given
me
the
limited
authority
to
waive
that
penalty
or
interest
or
to
refund
it.
If
that
may
be
the
case
every
year
in
about
August,
we
send
out
the
notices,
which
in
this
case
is
more
than
just
a
notice.
It's
the
bill
itself
that.
A
A
A
B
Turn
around
and
send
that
to
the
state
and
the
state
approves
the
values.
That's
it
stated
very,
very
simply.
Once
that's
approved
and
the
city
establishes
its
budget,
then
we
can
turn
around
and
make
a
calculation
and
send
out
the
bills
for
the
properties
to
the
appropriate
owners
in
this
past
year,
and
it
has
happened
in
one
other
time
that
the
second
notices
were
not
sent
out,
but
that's
a
notice.
The
bill
itself
always
has
gone
out
in
a
timely
manner
and
that's
a
one-time
bill.
That's
the
one!
B
B
A
B
A
B
A
B
Which
I
think
is
wonderful
that
they
were
so
generous
in
that
manner
of
doing
that,
and
so
we
followed
up
with
that
immediately
sent
out
the
letters
that
you
saw
earlier
on
the
screen
to
notify
individuals
that
this
was
available
to
them.
It
was
sent
to
all
individuals
who
had
a
60
payment,
but
there
was
certain
stipulations
that
had
to
be
met
in
order
for
that
to
occur.
B
B
So,
if
the
first
to
apply-
and
you
don't
actually
ask
for
it-
then
I
can't
waive
that
for
you,
so
you
must
request
it
and
it's
very
simple:
you
can
request
it
using
that
bottom
portion
that
I'm
referring
to
right
now,
all
you
need
to
do
is
to
print
your
name
and
sign
it,
and
that
gives
us
the
indication
that
you
are
making
the
requests.
Now,
if
you
misplace
the
form,
all
you
have
to
do
is
simply
write
us
a
note
stating
the
same
kind
of
information.
B
What
the
property
address
is
give
us
a
parcel
number
be
sure,
still
that
what
you're
looking
at
on
the
screen
is
applicable
sign
the
document
send
it
in
to
us
now,
if
you've
done.
All
of
that,
the
last
stipulation
on
this
is
that
it
must
be
done
before
March
1st.
You
can
email
it
to
us.
You
can
mail
it
to
us,
but
if
you
mail
it,
it
must
be
postmarked
by
the
post
office,
not
a
business
postal
machine.
B
B
You
can
bring
it
down
to
the
office,
we
will
take
it
any
way
that
you
send
it
to
us.
You
can
email
it
to
us,
absolutely
David,
so
that
that's
what
we
really
need
and
we
have
gotten
numerous
numerous
numerous
individuals
and
citizens
taking
at
advantage
of
this
and
that's
a
good
thing
right
and.
A
One
key
thing
to
note:
if
you're
watching
this-
and
you
say
to
yourself
well,
I,
haven't
seen
that
notice
or
received
one
in
the
mail.
This
is
not
applicable
to
all
taxpayers
if
you
paid
your
taxes
in
full
prior
to
December
1st
or
if
you
paid
that
first
installment
and
paid
that
second
installment
by
December
1st.
This
is
not
applicable
to
you
if
you
receive
and
all
and
this
notice
was
sent
to
everyone
that
it
was
applicable
to
that's.
A
However,
like
you
said,
if
you
lost
the
notice,
you
can
mail
it
mail,
a
request
come
into
our
office
or
it's
also
online.
Yes,
you
can
go
online
on
our
website.
That's
columbusga.org,
Tax
Commissioner!
You
can
click
on
there
and
print
that
notice,
right
off
of
the
website,
fill
it
out
and
send
it
in
you've.
A
A
B
It
applies
to
every
single
parcel.
Technically
that
was
delinquent
on
that
date.
So
all
we
need
for
you
to
do
you
don't
have
to
fill
out
an
application
for
every
one
of
them.
As
the
request
you
can
list,
every
property
attach
one
statement
saying
that
I'm
requesting
it
for
the
attached
properties
and
that
will
be
sufficient,
but
that
is
our
supporting
documentation
that
we
are
in
compliance
with
the
law.
That's
been
passed
by
Council,
so
if
someone
comes
back
and
asks
yes,
it
was
applied
for
all.
A
Right
and
also
during
this
time
of
year,
is
Homestead
season
stuff.
Some
of
you
are
getting
some
calls
from
our
our
clerks
in
the
office,
and
this
is,
if
you
have
a
homestead,
we
want
to
make
sure
that
you
are
still
living
in
the
property
and
make
sure
that
we
can
make
sure
that
Homestead
stays
on
your
property.
B
Can
come
back
and
talk
about
homesteads
because
I
do
want
to
let
people
know
that
our
phones
are
busy
right
now,
people
are
taking
advantage
of
this
opportunity
that
they
have
to
either
get
a
weave
refund
or
waiver,
so
be
patient
with
us.
You
know
if
you've
got
some
concerns
that
you've
got
please
email
us
David
has
given
you
our
information
to
contact
us,
don't
let
it
pass
go
online
for
it,
but
our
phones
are
staying
busy.
B
We're
asking
that
you
be
patient
with
us.
It's
going
to
take
us
about
60
days
right,
so
don't
look
for
those
refund
checks
coming
in
until
about
May,
1st,
okay,
so
use
your
tax
refunds
from
your
taxes
on
April
15th
use
that
up
first
and
then
look
forward
to
another
check
coming
from
us.
If
you've
got
a
refund
about
the
first
part
of
May
right.
A
So
again
also
our
email
address.
If
you
need
to
email
us,
you
can
email
us
at
Tax,
Commissioner
columbusga.org,
again,
that's
Tax
Commissioner
at
columbusga.org.
Now
again
we
want
to
get
those
requests
for
waiver
or
refund
in
before
March
1st,
so
it
has
to
be
postmarked
by
February,
28th,
absolutely
and
then
again
that
Homestead
deadline,
the
deadline
for
applying
for
Homestead
for
tax
year
2023
is
April
1st
of
2023..
A
B
I
do
and
Valentine's
Day
is
a
very,
very
special
day
for
me
as
it
is
for
everyone,
in
addition
to
American
Heart
Association
month
and
watching
your
blood
pressure
and
all
that
good
stuff.
But
my
sorority
Delta
Sigma
Theta
sorority,
the
Columbus
alumni
chapter
was
chartered.
It
was
founded
here
in
Columbus
on
February,
14
1948
and
we
are
celebrating
75
years
in
Columbus
Tri-City
area
in
serving
the
community
following
up
on
social
action
and
providing
scholarships
to
the
community
here.
So
we're
a
really
very,
very
excited.
B
B
A
A
Absolutely
and
we're
going
to
have
you
back
to
talk
some
more
and
give
us
some
more
updates
whenever
we
need
it
where
you're
right
downstairs,
you
know
where
to
find
us
and
again
feel
free
to
email
us
at
Tax,
Commissioner,
Columbus
ga.org,
for
any
additional
information.
Again.
Thank
you
for
watching.
This
is
Columbus
connections.
