Description
Honoring Dr Martin Luther King Jr in the new year with Columbus Connection.
A
A
Welcome
to
Columbus
connections:
I
am
your
host
David,
Britt
and
Happy
New
Year.
This
is
actually
the
first
show
of
the
year
and
what
better
way
to
start
off
this
year
and
start
off
this
show
season,
then
a
show
honoring
the
legacy
of
dr.
Martin
Luther
King
jr..
Now
it's
not
just
a
shady
street
in
every
town
here
in
Columbus
we
do
a
great
event
every
year
that
honors
them
a
lot
of
way
to
this.
It's
a
culmination
the
whole
weekend.
A
Actually,
if
things
going
on
and
we're
going
to
talk
about
that,
you
know
exactly
what
to
do
and
exactly
where
to
go
now.
I
have
with
me
mr.
Richard
Bishop.
He
is
no
stranger,
he's
a
great
pillar
of
our
community
and
he's
going
to
talk
about
the
dream
lives
and
what
all's
going
on.
So,
let's
get
into
it.
How
you
doing
hey.
B
A
B
Starts
off
Saturday
morning
at
9
o'clock,
with
the
5k
run
Saturday.
What's
that
that's
January
the
18th
at
9
a.m.
and
if
you
want
to
be
a
part
of
that
run,
all
you
have
to
do
is
Google
a
big
dog
running
company
and
you
can
register
had
a
meeting
with
him
yesterday
with
security
Metro,
everybody
that
will
be
involved
in
operation
of
that
event,
and
we've
got
over
200
runners
registered
yesterday.
Wow.
A
B
So,
if
you're
interested
in
getting
into
that
race,
all
you
have
to
do
again
is
look
up
big
dog
running
company
and
you
can
register
online
and
then,
from
there
this
year.
The
mayor
wanted
to
to
do
a
little
something
different
with
her
with
the
processional
processional
and
this
year
he's
having
a
call
to
prayer,
and
that
starts
at
11
o'clock
and
that
activity
will
be
on
First
Avenue
between
tenth
and
ninth
Street.
B
So
that's
actually,
but
behind
the
River
Center
and
in
front
of
and
beside
the
Government
Center
right
on
First
Avenue
yeah,
and
we
will
have
the
mayor's
inviting
a
number
of
different
pastors
in
the
community
to
come.
Pray
about
the
community
I
mean
we.
We
have
an
amazing
community,
but
we
can
always
do
better
and
I
think
the
mayor's
charging
the
pastor's
will
coming
and
doing
that.
B
We'll
have
some
entertainment
there
just
a
little
bit
that
morning
and
then
in
addition
to
that,
we've
invited
all
the
churches
or
congregations
to
come
in
and
join
in,
that
called
the
prayer
but
stay
for
the
processional
and
that
processional
will
include
anybody
that
wants
to
get
in.
And
if
you
want
to
come,
you
don't
have
to
register,
but
if
you're
a
big
congregation
or
a
big
group
business
or
whatever.
We
would
ask
that
you
just
if
you'd
email,
Covington
dot
Becca
at
Columbus,
GA
dot-com,
okay
and
she
can
get
you
rest
again.
B
B
C
B
Event
no
charge
just
come
and
enjoy
the
day
in
a
climate-controlled
area,
yeah.
So
from
there
the
procession
when
the
procession
begins
at
12
o'clock,
it
will
start
on
that
12
o'clock
horn
that
we
hear
every
Saturday
right.
That's
when
that
procession
to
go
starts
so
the
call
to
prayer
will
be
prior
to
that
and
then,
when
the
horn
goes
off,
the
processional
start
and
the
bands
will
just
get
into
the
to
the
processional
and
take
us
right
into
the
Trade
Center.
B
Now
when
we
get
into
the
Trade
Center,
we've
got
a
full
day
of
activities.
We
think
we'll
be
in
the
trade
center,
sometimes
between
12:15
and
12:30.
As
you
come
into
the
Trade
Center,
we've
got
a
whole
list
of
activities
that
will
it's
led
at
the
beginning
with
the
Welcome
and
we've
got
some
choirs
that
will
be
playing
during
that
or
singing.
During
that
time
the
mayor
will
be
there.
The
mayor's
Commission
for
diversity.
They've
got
a
piece
of
it
where
they
will
talk
about
the
equal
justice
initiative.
B
That's
part
of
it,
so
there's
gonna
be
a
great
way
to
get
some
information,
absolutely
yeah.
Absolutely
it's
gonna!
Be
a
great
way
to
get
information
and,
in
addition,
I'm
sure
the
community
a
lot
of
the
communities.
For
me
it
was
Spivey,
green,
yes,
bobbies
go,
do
a
short
version
of
the
dream,
little
speech
he'll
be
there
and
then
we've
also.
The
mayor.
B
Has
we
reached
out
to
about
25
different
and
diverse
community
members
and
asked
them
to
give
us
their
dream,
and
we've
got
that
all
on
video
and
we'll
play
that
video
and
give
give
the
dreams
that
they
have
all
that
they
have
provided
for
them.
We've
been
working
on
that
for
the
last
two
months.
This
point
that
we're.
B
A
B
C
C
B
A
C
B
And
we've
got
Neil
Lucas
who's,
a
great
blues
guy
in
the
community,
and
then
we've
got
a
young
gentleman
from
the
graduated
from
Brookstone.
His
name
is
Trey.
Pretty
and
Trey
has
gone
pretty
big
time.
He'd
XP
he's
out
in
Austin
now
in
the
music
scene,
and
he
will
come
in
he's
going
to
do
a
set
just
a
great
musician.
He
is
really
really
good
and
then
I
would
do
SOS
burn.
So
that's
where
we
end
up
that,
let's
go
close
out
the
day.
D
s
OS,
but
there's.
B
In
between
we've
got
an
incredible
Children's
Zone
you
mentioned
it
earlier,
bring
the
whole
family.
We
go.
The
parks
and
recreation
department,
Holly
Brown
and
her
staff
are
doing
great
things.
They
go
bring
to
blow-ups
face.
Painting.
We've
got
a
lot
of
different
agencies
that
that
provide
services
to
children
that'll,
be
there
downtown.
B
Everything
is
in
the
Trade
Center
again,
climate
control.
Yes,
no,
we
are
the
weather
and,
and
then
another
big
activity
is
we've
got
Columbus
collective,
who
is
a
group
of
young
professionals
that
put
on
art,
shows
we'll
have
an
art
show
that
we
will
have
artists
from
from
all
over
this
area.
The
schoolchildren
are
participating
and,
and
that
will
be-
we've
got
over
40
artist,
artists
that
have
entered,
and
that
will
be
in
the
center
room.
B
All
of
these
activities
are
in
the
South
Hall,
plus
the
the
room,
the
venue
between
the
South
Alden
and
North
Hall,
so
we
go
fill
up
that
whole
place
and
and
then
in
addition
to
that,
we've
got
about
25.
Other
vendors,
voter
registration,
we've
got
equal
rights
as
far
as
housing.
We
got
a
lot
of
different
vendors
that
will
be
there
to
give
the
community
information.
So
it's
going
to
be
a
great
day
and
we
just
encourage
the
whole
community
to
come
down
and
participate
in
all
the
activities
it
will
have
them
on
January.
B
The
18th
starts
at
9
o'clock,
with
the
run,
then
that
run
if
you
want
to
register,
go
to
big
dog
running
company
and
then
from
there
it
transitions
into
the
to
the
call
to
prayer
and
the
processional.
If
you
want
to
be
a
part
of
that,
all
you
have
to
do,
you
can
come
and
just
show
up,
but
we
encourage
you
to
register.
B
We
need
to
kind
of
get
a
count
and
you
you
just
call
and
register
at
Covington
dot,
Becca
at
Columbus,
GA,
comm
or
just
call
the
mayor's
office,
and
then
it
goes
once
we
get
into
the
to
the
trade
center.
It
runs
from
12:00
until
6:00
p.m.
Wow
lots
of
activities
all
day
long,
so
I
just
encourage
the
community
to
participate.
Awesome.
A
C
I'm
skip
Anderson
mayor
of
Columbus,
Georgia
and
I'd
like
to
invite
you
and
your
organization
to
take
part
in
our
community
call
to
prayer,
Day
procession
and
the
dream
lives.
Dr.
Martin,
Luther,
King
jr.
celebration
join
us
on
January,
18
2020.
The
call
to
prayer
procession
will
begin
at
11
a.m.
on
First
Avenue
between
9th
Street
and
10th.
Following
the
procession
please
come
and
enjoy
the
day's
events
at
the
Columbus
Convention
and
Trade
Center.
If
you
need
more
information,
contact,
Becca
Covington
at
the
information
on
our
stage
welcome.
A
Back
to
columbus
connections,
we
are
honoring.
The
legacy
of
dr.
Martin
Luther
King
jr.
here
is
something
we
will
always
do
in
Columbus
Georgia
and
one
of
the
key
events
that
also
just
kind
of
kicks
off
the
year.
If
the
dr.
Martin
Luther
King,
jr.
unity
award
breakfast
we're
going
to
talk
about
that,
we
have
here
dr.
rocky
Marsh,
who
you
may
recognize
from
being
on
the
show,
but
here
he's
wearing
another
hat,
as
he
talks
about
the
breakfast.
Welcome
back
thanks.
A
D
One
day
we're
proud
to
this
continuous
district.
This
event
actually
started
in
1987.
It's
been
our
signature,
scholarship
flagship,
scholarship,
fundraiser
and
it's
just
it
doesn't
mentally
well,
just
alone.
Last
year
we
was
able
to
award
eleven
thousand
dollars
in
scholarships
for
kids,
so
we
excited
to
come
into
a
new
year,
a
new
decade.
We
have
a
phenomenal
speaker
this
year,
so
the
event
is
on
January
20th
at
the
Trade
Center.
We
always
start
our
events
off
at
7:06
a
in
the
morning,
but
we
have
a
phenomenal
speaker.
We,
the
Reverend
dr.
D
A
One
of
those
that's
the
great
thing
about
the
event
is
that
it's
kind
of
twofold
one
is
just
a
great
event
for
the
community.
People
come
out.
You
get
to
see
you
get
to
network,
see
people,
you
have
a
great
breakfast,
you
hear
a
great
speech,
but
then
the
other
way
is
that
it
really
honors
the
legacy
of
dr.
King,
because
they.
D
D
Correct
in
addition
to
what
what
you
shared,
we
we
actually
event
provides
another
purpose.
We
at
the
fraternity,
the
brothers,
the
the
foundation,
used
the
event
to
acknowledge
and
recognize
those
individuals
who
are
doing
something
that
promotes
unity
in
our
community.
So
we
are
award
several
wars
for
individual
who
are
excelling
in
the
areas
of
business
education.
A
D
Exactly
I
mean
you
spoke
about
this
earlier.
We
we
already
decided
to
see
the
number
of
people
that
come
out.
It's
a
very
diverse
crowd.
We
have
the
most
senior
to
most
junior.
Usually
we
have
like
some
school
programs
or
kids
come
up
and
that's
always
exciting
to
see
them
be
engaged
in
the
event.
Just
as
much
as
we
are,
but
people
come
they
love
to
come
with.
The
brothers
are
excited.
We
just
met
last
week
to
do
our
final
preparations,
so
I
hope
all
your
audience
are
excited
as
we
are.
D
The
upward
and
onward
foundation
of
Alpha
Phi
fraternity
here
in
Columbus.
Georgia
is
a
it's
looking
forward
to
seeing
everyone
in
Columbus
for
Benny
and
Phoenix
City
at
the
Trade
Center
on
January
20th
at
7:06
a.m.
phenom
speaker
for
our
for
this
year's
Martin
Luther
King
unity
award
breakfast
obvious.
A
D
I
can
say
very
simply
those
who
do
not
remember
the
faz
are
doomed
to
repeat
it.
Unity
keeps
everyone
together,
regardless
of
our
differences.
We
all
have
things
and
like
that.
Bring
us
together
and
by
recognizing
things
that
bring
us
together,
helps
keep
the
community
together,
keep
us
on
positive
notes
and
keeps
us
moving
forward,
and
that's
what
we
want
to
focus
on
at
this
year
and
every
year
for
the
purpose
of
our
breakfast.
You.
D
D
I
want
to
name
one
specifically,
that
is
our
most
recent
mayor.
She
receives
to
wor
being
the
first
female
mayor,
the
two-time
there.
That
was
a
definitely
accomplishment
and
a
very
signal
of
breaking
barriers,
something
that
brings
people
together
and
we
were
just
so
proud
to
be
able
to
award
that
I
came
from
whom
all
of
them,
because
they
are
several
and
but
we
we
are
elated
to
be
able
to
award
that
to
anyone
who
deserve
it.
How
can
people
get
tickets
to
the
event?
Oh
great
question,
so
we
have
three.
D
We
have
three
areas
that
people
can
go
into
to
get
tickets.
We
have
Hough
international
funeral
home
hazel
floors
and
2,000
opportunities
and
take
is
a
very
reasonable
price.
They
really
haven't
changed
that
much.
The
tracing
always
does
a
great
job
of
putting
everything
together
and
even
through
inflation
and
whatnot,
we
have
$40
for
regular
tickets
and
we
also
have
a
special
student
ticket.
So
all
those
college-
kids,
all
those
kids
in
high
school.
You
have
no
reason
parents,
you
have
no
reason,
and
we
can.
We
can
accommodate
everybody.
