A
Hello,
I'm
isaiah
hugley
city
manager
of
columbus,
georgia.
I
want
to
welcome
you
to
our
amazing
city.
We
have
made
unbelievable
progress
over
the
last
25
years.
Columbus
has
made
unbelievable
progress
over
the
25
years.
You
would
not
believe
25
years
ago.
You
would
not
have
believed
that
uptown
columbus
would
be
the
thriving
business,
education,
arts
and
entertainment
district
that
it
is
today.
A
A
You
would
not
have
believed
that
in
uptown
columbus,
when
we
measure
six
years
of
economic
growth,
that
we
would
see,
74
million
in
capital
investment
in
the
value
of
building
permits,
42
new
businesses,
more
than
400
new
jobs
and
more
than
204
million
dollars
in
gross
receipts,
a
30
increase
in
six
years.
You
would
not
have
believed
we
would
have
under
construction.
A
A
A
A
You
would
not
have
believed
that
wc
bradley
would
have
would
have
constructed
a
52
million
dollar
project
of
226
new
apartment
units
and
a
five-story
structure
with
retail
space
restaurant
a
park
and
a
313
space
parking
garage
in
our
uptown
columbus.
You
would
not
have
believed
that
historic
westfield
would
be
relocating
to
columbus
georgia.
You
would
not
have
believed
we
would
construct
the
national
infantry
museum
and
it
would
attract
visitors
from
all
over
the
world
and
be
named
the
number
one
best
free
museum
in
america.
A
You
would
not
have
believed
we
would
have
60
miles
of
connected,
walk
and
jog
and
biking
greenway
trails,
and
it
would
be
named
the
dragonfly.
You
would
not
have
believed
that
midtown
columbus
would
be
branded
midtown
and
be
thriving
as
it
is
today.
You
would
not
have
believed
that
the
panhandle
would
be
developed
as
it
is
today
or
north
columbus
growing.
As
you
see
it
today,
my
head
is
spinning,
as
I
tell
you
about
the
amazing
work,
the
amazing
growth
we
have
witnessed
in
our
great
city,
columbus,
georgia,
so
to
our
visitors.
A
A
Let
me
mention
that
fort
benning
is
here
in
columbus,
georgia,
as
you
all
know,
and
we
love
fort
benning
for
what
the
men
and
women
of
the
military
do
for
our
country
and
for
the
phenomenal
economic
impact
on
the
columbus
region
that
we
get
from
fort
benning.
We
have
enjoyed
great
momentum,
as
you
can
see,
in
columbus,
georgia
momentum.
That
is
apparent
as
you
travel
throughout
our
city.
Our
communities
often
have
visitors
come
and
they
ask
us.
A
A
A
Our
mayor
handles
our
public
safety
agents
is
police,
fire,
ems,
muskogee,
county
prison
and
the
city
manager
handles
all
of
the
general
government
departments.
We
have
more
than
3
000
employees
in
our
government
we
have
a
budget
of
250
million
dollars
columbus.
Georgia
is
220
square
miles,
that's
about
141,
000
acres
and,
in
addition
to
our
city
employees,
I
must
add
that
we
use
approximately
500
prisoners
inmate
labor
each
day,
and
they
help
support
our
staff
in
delivering
services
to
the
citizens
of
columbus
georgia.
A
They
provide
support
in
almost
every
function,
their
electricians,
they're,
plumbers,
they're
painters,
they're
carpenters.
They
do
mechanic
work
like
changing
oil
in
our
vehicles,
and
so
we
get
a
great
deal
of
support
from
the
fact
more
than
500
prison
laborers
that
we
have
each
day
and
for
that
labor
and
for
what
they
do
to
us.
I
must
add
that
there's
a
benefit
back
to
our
prisoners,
they're
able
to
get
their
geds
while
they're
in
in
prison
and
providing
this
labor
in
this
work
camp
that
we
have
in
columbus,
georgia.
A
They
learn,
they
become
a
master
for
masterful,
at
skills
like
they
can
get
out
of
prison
and
and
do
electrical
work,
plumbing
work,
a
lot
maintenance
work.
They
get
out
with
those
skills
that
we
teach
them
so,
in
addition
to
their
ged
they're,
getting
their
high
school
education.
If
they
don't
have
it
they're
able
to
learn
these
tracy
skills
because
they
do
them
every
day.
We
we
train
them,
we
teach
them
every
day,
and
so
there's
a
benefit
back
to
that
prison.
A
Labor
in
the
work
camp
that
we
have
here
in
columbus,
georgia,
our
police
department
handles
all
of
our
9-1-1
calls.
Those
are
our
emergency
calls,
our
sheriff's
department
handles
they
handle
the
jail
and
warrants
and
now
marshall's
office
handles
they
handle
evictions,
and
so
we've
got
more
than
3
000
employees
and
they
are
providing
the
service
of
the
citizens
each
and
every
day
here
in
columbus,
georgia.
