mission

keep
Columbus
beautiful,
is
to
engage
and
educate
individuals
to
be
better
stewards
to
our
environment.
By
enhancing
beautification,
eliminating
littering
blight
and
protecting
our
environment.
We
always
look
to
bring
some
wonderful
people
that
can
share
their
jobs
and
what
they're
doing
so
that
we
can
educate
you
to
be
a
better
Stewart
to
our
environment.

you
know
our
theme
for
this
year
is
talking
trash
and
so
we're
gonna
talk
a
little
trash
and
we're
going
to
talk
about
some
things
that
you
all
can
get
involved
in
so
make
sure
you
stay
tuned.
My
very
first
guest
is
Henry
Jack's
Jackson
and
he
is
from
the
Columbus
River
a
warden
ice,
a
river
warden,
but
it's
River
keeper,
but
it's
a
River
Conservation
yeah.

I'm,
just
thinking
of
the
other
river
Wharton's
that
we've
had
in
the
past,
and
so,
but
we're
so
excited
to
have
you
with
this
youthfulness
that
you're,
bringing
and
I
know
that
you
just
are
doing
quite
a
bit.
But
before
we
talk
about
what
you
do
as
your
job
tell
us
a
little
bit
about
what's
going
on
with
at
home,
because
I
know
that
you
all
have
just
had
twins
not
too
long
ago.
So,
let's
share
a
little
bit.

Recently
recently
had
twins,
so
there
are
a
little
over
a
year
and
a
half
old.
We
got
a
boy
and
a
girl,
Graham
and
William,
and
so
we're
at
that
stage
right
now,
where
they're
they're
not
just
walking
but
they're
running
okay
and
they're,
they're
figuring
out,
you
know
how
to
fight
for
toys
and
how
to
fight
over
staff.

So
we
want
to
do
everything
we
can
to
limit
pollution
and
to
limit
our
impact
on
the
chatot
River,
as
in
the
city's
impact,
the
community's
impact,
and
then
just
people
as
a
whole.
We
want
that
River
to
be
in
as
natural
of
a
state
as
possible.
Yeah
we
want
to
limit
invasive
species,
we
want
to
support
habitat
for
native
species
because
we
wanted
to
retain
its
uniqueness
and.
A
You
know
the
river
is
so
important
to
us
and
I
think
we
so
often
take
it
for
granted,
because
it
really
is
the
lifeline
for
our
community
and
then
we
really
can't
live
without
good
water.
And
it's
so
important
that,
if
we're
going
to
have
to
drink
the
water
from
the
river
and
eat
some
of
the
wildlife
from
the
river
that
we
should
take
care
of
it.
Because,
as
human
beings,
we
actually
create
a
pollution
right.

What
it
means
is,
just
during
the
summer
months,
when
everybody's
enjoying
the
Chattahoochee,
we
want
to
make
sure
that
the
the
public
is
informed
about
the
quality
of
the
water,
so
that
just
it's
public
water.
There's
a
lawyer
as
a
public
right,
no
issue
about
the
quality
and
the
quality
is
it's
excellent
and
the.
A
That's
awesome,
you
know
and
I
know
that
rafting
is
really
beginning
to
be
a
big
thing
to
do
and
with
spring
a
lot
of
from
out
of
town
to
our
river
and
so
I
know.
It
really
just
makes
us
feel
good
to
say
that
hey
look,
there's
water
quality
here
in
the
river
is
really
good
and
actually
I've
been
talking
to
some
people
who
have
been
fishing
I'd
like
to
go
a
little
bit
fishing.

You
know,
but
I
don't
catch
too
many
fish,
but
I
like
going
fishing,
because
it's
just
so
nice
and
coming
but
I
was
talking
to
a
young
man
and
he
was
saying
that
he'd
been
that
down
fishing
and
have
caught
bass
and
some
catfish
too,
and
so
tell
us
a
little
bit
about
the
fish
that
they
may
be
able
to
catch
in
the
Chattahoochee
better.

Thing
about
the
Chattahoochee
that
makes
it
unique
for
fishing
is
that
it's
the
native
range
of
shoal
bass,
which
is
a
species
of
fish
that
is
only
found
in
the
Chattahoochee
and
the
Flint
River
in
the
Apalachicola
rivers.
It's
also
home
to
the
Chattahoochee
bass,
which
is
only
found
in
the
Chattahoochee
River.
So
there's
a
number
of
fish
in
this
river
that
are
unique
to
this
river
that
you
can
only
catch
in
the
Chattahoochee
River.

For
one
breaching
the
dam
made
it
possible
for
us
to
restore
these
fish
because
at
one
time
the
the
downtown
area
was
prime
habitat
and
then
the
dams
were
built
and
the
water
went
from
being
Swift
and
moving
in
full
of
oxygen
to
being
very
stagnant.
So
once
those
dams
were
removed
and
that
flow
was
restored,
we're
now
able
to
go
back
in
and
rebuild
the
habitat
and
then
put
the
fish
back.
Wonderful.

And
now
I
know
I'm
excited
that
you
are
cheering
the
hepta
hooch
cleanup
activities
along
with
Ava
Dixon
from
our
office
and
we're
just
excited
to
have
young
people
who
are
chairing
the
event
and-
and
our
theme
is
talking
trash,
and
so
let's
talk
a
little
bit
of
trash
about
what's
coming
out
of
the
Chattahoochee
River
and
what
people
are
doing
to
really
not
help
the
Chattahoochee
River.
So
let's
talk
a
little
bit
of
trash
well.

It
in
parking
lot
and
all
in
all
of
our
streets
and
our
parking
lots
have
storm
drains
they're
connected
to
our
streams
right
and
our
streams
are
connected
to
our
rivers.
So,
as
trash
gets
washed
into
the
drains,
it
ends
up
in
our
river
and
wearing
breaks
down
into
micro,
plastics
and
other
damaging
forms
of
trash.

Those
fast
food
containers
that
you
throw
out
the
window,
that's
right
and
little
paper,
wrappers
that
you
know
after
eating
some
candy.
You
know
it's
just
so
important
for
all
of
us
to
understand
that
what
we
do
impacts
the
water
that
we
drink
our
water
quality,
and
so
we
need
for
everyone
in
our
community,
not
to
litter.
You
know
what
I've
been
finding
a
lot
is
that
when
I

through
communities,
a
lot
of
people
actually
set
their
trash
on
the
curb
before
it's
time
for
the
trash,
the
truck
to
come
and
pick
up.

So
somebody
just
stopped
and
just
threw
the
trash
away,
and
it's
so
important
for
them
not
to
do
that,
because
it
actually
is
causing
an
issue
for
what
for
what
gives
us
life
without
water.
We
can't
have
life
and
that's
why
it's
so
important.
What
kind
of
treasure
you
find
it
in
the
river
when
you
all
go
diving
for
trash.

Found
styrofoam
a
lot
of
plastic,
we
find
a
lot
of
tobacco
containers,
it's
all
right
and
that
would
be
the
majority
belief,
I'm
floating
what
we
find
under
the
surface
like
with
the
chattahoochee
google
and
they're,
diving
Tigers,
they
find
a
lot
of
tyres,
and
so
we
try
and
encourage
people
to
understand
your
local
rules
about
disposing
tires,
because
if
I
may
be
wrong,
but
I
believe
the
City
of
Columbus
will
actually
pick
up.

your

It's
so
important
for
us
to
let
our
community
know
that
you
know
there's
a
proper
way
to
dispose
of
those
tires
and
they
can
always
take
them
back
to
some
place
that
we're
all
right
when
they
get
new
tires.
You
know
those
tires
have
to
be
properly
disposed
of,
and
maybe
some
of
those
businesses
may
take
some
of
their
old
tires
back
I'm,
not
sure,
but
we
do
not
want
them
in
the
river.
That's
what
we
do
know
right.
That's
what
we're
doing
absolutely
so.
Is
there
anything

That's
going
on
that
you'd
like
to
share,
because
I
want
to
find
out.
How
do
you
feel
by
being
the
co-chair
of
the
help
to
hooch
the
largest
cleanup
activity
in
the
state
of
Georgia,
probably
in
the
United
States,
because
we
have
close
to
10,000
volunteers.
So
how
does
it
feel
to
be
the
chair
of
that.

But
it's
been
very
interesting
because
I've
been
involved
with
helping
hoods
for
many
years
long
before
I
was
at
Chattahoochee,
River
Conservancy
it
just
as
a
volunteer
and
then
when
I
took
on
this
job,
I
became
active
in
the
steering
committee
for
help
urgent
and
now,
as
a
chair,
it's
been
very
interesting
to
see
it
as
a
volunteer
and
then
a
committee
member
and
now
I
was
the
co-chair.
So.

a
little
bit

we
do
need
for
everybody

register
because
we
need
everyone's

Also,
one
of
the
things
that
we
would
love
for
everyone
to
do
is
to
clean
up
outside
of
your
home
during
that
time,

you
go
home
to
and
from
work
or
from
playing
or
to
church
or
wherever
you're
going
I
know,
you
see
trash
on
our
roadways
because
it's
a
lot
of
it
out
there.
We
need
your
support.
We

started
this
event
last
year,
so
we've
learned
a
lot
between
the
first
one
we
did
last
year
in
this
one
city.
Our
organization
has
been
in
operation
for
eight
years
now,
and
so
actually
we
wanted
to
celebrate
our
seventh
year
by
getting
our
our
closest
friends
and
supporters,
all
under
one
roof
and
having
an
amazing
dinner
and
drinks
and
just
celebrating
the
Chattahoochee
River,
and
so
we're
doing
that
again
this
year,
that'll
be
September
14th.
All
of
the
registration
information
is
on
our
Facebook
page,

Conservancy
and
it
is.

It
is
a
one
of
our
largest
fundraising
events
for
our
organization,
we're
funded
entirely
by
donations
and
acts
like
this.
So
if
people
love
the
Chattahoochee
River
and
they
love
being
around
people
that
love
the
Chattahoochee
River
and
they
also
love
good
food.
This
is
a
great
opportunity
to
get
to
know
all
of
us
that
are
active
in
the
river
or
just.

mobile

doesn't
take
much

the
debris
to
blow
out

our
roadways,
causing
it
unsightly
and
hazardous
mess.
Law
enforcement
is
out
ticketing
litterbugs.

part

your

a

you
to
tell
us
a
little
bit
about
yourself.

who

I
am
a
Columbus
native
I
am
a
former
valedictorian
from
Kendrick
high
school
and
I
went
on
and
get
my
bachelor's
degree
in
geology
from
Columbus
State,
University
and
loved
it.
So
much
read:
I
went
into
environmental
science.
No,
since
the
age
of
five
I've
always
known
I
want
to
be
a
meteorologist
okay
but
I'm
the
first
one
to
say
that
the
path
is
not
always
true.

work
closely
with
Kendrick
high
school.
They
are
always
participating
in
our
shoe
recycling
campaign
as
well
as
they
help
to
hooch.

help
us
plant
some
trees

I'm
not
sure
he's
still
there
or
not.
But
anyway

at
everything
from
tornado
occurrences
and
the
cool
season
in
the
Gulf
Coast
to
in
differences
in
the
Chesapeake
Bay
as
to
how
to
restore
the
Chesapeake
Bay
I've
also
had
some
excursions
overseas
ygo
Pia,
looking
at
water,
climate
and
health
issues
and
my
main
primary
focus,
which
was
interesting
that
you
talked
about
water.
Okay,
is
actually
heavy
precipitation
occurrences
that
happened
during
the
monsoon
season
and
how
aerosols
impact
cloud
formation
and
direction.

That
it's
just
right
down
our
line
of
in
our
mission
to
you
know
because
education
is
the
key.
I
really
do
believe
that
when
people
know
better
they'll
do
better
absolutely,
and
so
it's
so
it's
so
much
about
education,

that's

we
have
this
show
that's
why
we
have
the
purpose
that
we
plan
and
implement
on
an
annual
basis
to
engage
them,
and
you
know
once
you
get
engaged
in
it,
then
you
know
you
change
your
whole
mindset.
It's
so
hard
to
change
the
mindset
of
older
people.

would
just
say
anyone.

These
same
resources
that
we
get
from
the
earth
so
over
the
course
of
semester,
I'm
constantly
educating
them
on
how
to
be
better
stewards,
how
to
live
more
sustainable.
How
do
these
things
inter
relate
to
our
everyday
lives?
Yes,
we
take
these
things
for
granted,
but,
however,
the
Earth's
processes
are
very
cyclic,
but
when
we
choose
to.

Know
that's
right,
so
you
know
I'm
just
excited
that
we've
made
this
connection
because
our
goal
is
to
really
engage
as
many
people
as
possible
in
our
programs
and
projects,
and
so
we're
looking
forward
to
working
with
you
at
Columbus,
State
University,
as
well
as
Columbus
Technical
College.
We
have
two
big
events
that
are
coming
up.
We
just
spoke
about
the
help
to
hooch
and
that
will
take
place
on
October
the
12th,
we're
encouraging
every
school
in
the
Tri
community
to
have
a
campus
clean
up
and
then
on
the
13th
on
that
Saturday.

We're
having
a
community-wide
cleanup,
so
we'll
be
cleaning
up
the
parks,
all
the
parks
around
the
area
along
the
Riverwalk
on
both
sides
in
Phoenix,
City
and
Columbus,
and
any
place
else
that
we
can
get
people
to
volunteer
to
help
us
clean
up.
That's
what
we're
going
to
be
doing
and
then
we're
also
going
to
be
collecting
shoes
we're
trying
to
divert
shoes
from
our
landfill,
because
you
know
takes
a
long
time
if
ever
for
them
to
biodegrade,
because
they're
made
from
man-made
fabrics
and
fibers.

Know-
and
we
work
with
funds
to
that
arc
and
they
they
are
a
business
that
worked
with
nonprofit
organizations
to
help
them
to
raise
some
funds,
so
we
get
like
40
cents,
a
pound.
You
know
they
help
us
with
some
of
our
program
efforts,
but
we
collected
over
300
bags
of
shoes
last
year
with
25
pair
of
shoes
per
bag,
so
we
did
well,
but
our
goal
this
year
is
a
lot
higher.

We
want
to
collect
thirty
thousand
pair
of
shoes
shouldn't
be
hard
to
get
because
we
have
over
200,000
people
in
Columbus
and
we're
talking
about
in
the
in
the
surrounding
area.
So
we
should
be
able
to
get.
You
know
thirty
thousand
pair
of
shoes
at
a
whim.
So
you
all
please
make
sure
that
you
help
us
with
our
shoe
recycling
campaign.
Every
fire
station
will
be
collecting
shoes
there
at
their
station
and
you
know
they're
open
24/7.
So
all
you
have
to
do
is
put
your
shoes
together.

can

on
a

and
register,
because
the
information
is
there,
so
we'd
love
for
them

participate
and
I'm
glad.

we
need

where
we
want
to
go

and
so
I'm
proud
of
you
for
all
of
your
accomplishments.

know

work

do
and

excited

working
