A
Hello
and
welcome
to
learning
with
the
dogs-
I'm
ria,
bentley
the
county
extension
coordinator
here
with
university
of
georgia
extension
today.
We
have
an
exciting
show
planned
for
you,
we're
going
to
tell
you
all
about
the
services
we
offer
here
at
the
university
of
georgia
extension.
So
sit
back,
relax
and
we'll
be
right
back.
B
A
Hello
and
welcome
back
to
learning
with
the
dogs
today
we're
going
to
tell
you
a
little
bit
about
the
university
of
georgia
extension.
Our
motto
is:
we
translate
the
signs
of
everyday
living
for
families,
farmers
and
communities
to
foster
a
healthy
and
prosperous
georgia.
So
that's
what
we
do
here.
We
have
array
of
services
we
offer
today,
I'm
going
to
tell
you
a
little
bit
about
femme
consumer
sciences.
A
For
example,
if
you
had
nutrition
questions
or
questions
on
child
and
family
development,
financial
management
or
food
home
preservation,
you
can
reach
out
to
us.
We
also
have
our
expanded
food
and
nutrition
education
program,
which
teaches
you
how
to
eat
healthy
on
a
limited
budget.
So,
if
you're
interested
in
these
services,
please
feel
free
to
call
our
office
and
ask
for
the
family,
consumer
sciences,
agent
or
the
ethnic
agent.
Thank
you.
C
D
D
So
why
is
national
book
month
important
it
encourages
reading,
and
what
that
does
is,
if
you
encourage
reading
it
is
an
activity
that
you
can
do
that
has
been
proven.
That
reading
can
help
anyone
develop
a
better
vocabulary,
improve
memory,
expand
knowledge
and
lower
stress,
also
it
honors
the
greatest
it
honors,
the
greatest
authors
and
the
great
books
that
you've
read
and
also
gives
the
young
child
a
diverse
role
model.
It
is
important
to
show
your
young
people
that
literature
and
authors
are
still
relevant
and
important.
D
D
B
We've
got
a
problem
with
litter,
illegal
dumping
and
litter
causes
an
increase
in
blight
and
a
decrease
in
property
values.
Litter
can
be
an
eyesore
and
aid
in
crime
and
not
to
mention
it's
illegal.
Why
should
you
care
about
litter?
Let's
count
the
ways
more
than
10
million
dollars
in
labor
are
spent
picking
up
trash
citizens,
throw
on
the
grounds
of
our
beautiful
state
of
georgia.
Studies
show
that
80
percent
of
that
trash
is
generated
on
lands
and
ends
up
in
our
waterways,
which
threatens
our
marine
life.
B
So
please
do
the
right
thing:
columbus
do
not
litter
or
you
will
pay
the
price
how
you
can
help
you
can
report
any
offense
of
littering
to
311
by
providing
their
tag
number
a
vehicle
description
and
the
location
where
you
saw
the
litter
take
place
so
columbus.
Let's
do
our
part
and
help
keep
columbus,
beautiful.
E
Welcome
back
to
learning
with
the
dogs,
my
name
is
ashley
day.
I
am
the
4-h
agent
for
columbus,
muskogee
and
chattahoochee
county
4-h
in
light
of
literacy
month
in
september,
we
are
bringing
what
4-h
brings
and
how
fort
uses
literacy
in
the
classroom
and
outside
the
classroom.
So
one
of
our
largest
competitions
is
called
district
project.
Achievement
and
district
project
achievement,
encourages
youth
to
focus
on
literacy
and
researching
projects
and
interests
for
their
own
for
themselves
by
using
credible
sources.
E
E
So
once
a
child
or
youth
chooses
a
focus
area,
it
is
then
their
responsibility
to
research,
more
information
by
using
credible
sources,
and
they
will
come
up
with
a
a
presentation
complete
with
posters
like
we
see
here,
and
they
will
put
together
this
presentation
and
posters
and
again
it
can
be
anything
of
their
choice.
So
here
with
me,
I
have
some
fourth
grade
presentations.
I
have
becoming
an
architect.
E
This
was
completely
one
of
our
fourth
graders
and
they
had
to
research.
What
does
it
take
to
become
an
architecture
and
they
were
really
involved
in
robotics
and
inventions
at
their
school
and
one
of
their
goals
was
to
become
an
architecture,
so
they
were
really
interested
in
the
steps
that
it
would
take
to
become
an
architecture
and
they
were
able
to
put
this
in
presentation
format
and
over
here
I
have
another
fourth
grader,
and
they
were
really
interested
in
football
and
becoming
a
better
athlete.
So
they
were
able
to
research.
E
E
Like
I
said,
we
have
some
fourth
grade
presentations,
something
that
the
7th
through
12th
graders
do
is
they
have
to
come
up
with
a
portfolio,
and
this
portfolio
is
like
a
resume
and
it's
everything
that
they've
done
throughout
the
year,
anything
from
community
service
to
academic
honors,
to
work
that
they've
done
in
their
project
area,
and
this
comes
in
handy
later
on
when
they
start
applying
for
colleges
or
even
scholarships,
and
even
when
they
put
together
a
job
resume.
E
As
you
can
see,
these
presentations
help
with
public
speaking
leadership,
civic
engagement
and
other
skills
that
these
kids
are
going
to
use
for
the
rest
of
their
lives
and
then,
at
the
end,
they
present
it
to
a
panel
of
judges
7th
through
12th
graders.
They
actually
travel
to
rock
eagle
4-h
center
and
9th
through
12th
graders
are
competing
for
state
honors
if
they
win
first
in
their
district,
they
continue
on
to
state
project
achievement
at
state
4-h
congress,
and
if
they
win
there,
they
continue
on
to
national
4-h
congress.
E
Again
this
is
another
chance
for
them
to
build
their
scholarship
applications.
Their
college
applications
meet
professionals
from
all
across
the
state
of
georgia
and
even
the
world
for
more
information
about
dpa
district
prior
achievement
or
other
4-h
activities
or
even
4-h
history.
I
encourage
everyone
to
look
at
a
copy
of
georgia,
4-h
historic,
pass
and
dynamic
future.
E
C
F
So
welcome
back
to
learning
with
the
dogs,
my
name
is
ashley
brantley
and
I
am
the
uga
extension
agriculture
and
natural
resources
agent
here
in
muskogee
county
and
today
in
honor
of
national
family
literacy
month.
I
wanted
to
acknowledge
or
highlight
the
importance
of
ag
literacy,
which
is
understanding
the
agricultural
industry
and
how
it
works.
F
The
push
to
determine
how
to
produce
food
for
this
growing
population
is
great
so
to
further
compound
this
issue.
Fewer
of
us
are
familiar
with
or
cognizant
of
how
the
agricultural
industry
works,
and
so
as
we're
becoming
further
removed
from
farms
in
rural
areas.
This
issue
is
becoming
greater,
so
as
citizens,
it's
really
crucial
that
we
understand
the
history
of
agriculture,
along
with
how
its
social,
economic
and
environmental
impacts
affect
our
daily
lives,
everything
from
nutrition
to
food
policy.
F
So
this
month
I
challenge
you
and
your
families
to
become
more
ag
literate
by
familiarizing
yourself
with
production
processing
and
the
technological
aspects
that
go
along
with
the
agriculture
industry.
If
you
would
like
more
information
on
agriculture
and
its
impact
on
our
great
state,
please
make
sure
to
visit
your
local
library.
B
Hi,
I'm
charnay
ware
executive
director
here
at
keep
columbus
beautiful
columbus
we've

G
And
welcome
back
to
learning
with
the
dogs,
we're
honoring
literacy
awareness
this
month
and
I
will
be
speaking
about
full
literacy.
Literacy
is
a
term
that
is
a
collection
of
internal
related
knowledge
that
has
skills
behaviors
required
to
plan,
manage
prep
and
eat
food
to
meet
needs
and
determine
intake.
G
G
G
One
thing
I
would
like
for
you
all
to
know
is
that
it's
important
to
be
knowledgeable
on
how
to
keep
your
food
safe,
how
to
keep
your
food
stored
and
keeping
those
perishable
items
in
your
refrigerator
in
its
cold
source,
because
if
it's
kept
out
of
this
cold
source,
it
will
be
in
the
danger
zone
and
that
danger
zone
temperature
is
between
40
degrees,
fahrenheit
and
140
140
degrees,
fahrenheit
discard
those
perishable
items
when
they're
in
that
danger
zone
between
those
two
temperatures.
G
Secondly,
I
would
like
to
talk
about
how
to
store
your
food
items
if
you
had
a
power
audit
outage.
So
if
you
had
a
power
outage
first,
I
would
like
to
say
try
to
plan
before
you
have
the
power
power
outage
and
try
to
plan
during
and
after
steps
when
you
have
a
power
outage.
So
let's
talk
about
what
to
do
before
you
have
a
power
outage
before
you
have
a
power
outage,
make
sure
that
you
have
a
refrigerator
or
freezer
thermometer.
G
Okay,
very
important,
because
it
helps
you
to
know
your
temperature
of
your
freezer
and
your
temperature
of
your
refrigerator
to
maintain
the
temperature
that
you
need
for
safe
foods
to
eat
the
temperature
that
you
would
need
to
ensure
for
your
freezer
would
be
below
zero
degrees,
fahrenheit
or
at
zero
degrees
fahrenheit,
and
for
your
refrigerator
it
will
be
at
40
degrees,
fahrenheit
or
below
40
degrees.
Fahrenheit.
G
This
is
what
you
we
recommend
the
basic
tips,
keep
your
refrigerator
and
freezer
doors
closed
as
much
as
possible
to
maintain
those
cold
temperatures
and
if
you
plan
to
eat
the
refrigerator
or
frozen
meat,
make
sure
that
you
cook
it
thoroughly
with
this
internal
temperature,
and
this
is
what
you
use
the
internal
cooking,
the
cooking
thermometer
to
measure
your
temperatures,
the
recommended
internal
temperature
for
pork
has
been
decreased
to
140
degrees,
and
that
is
with
a
rest
period
of
three
minutes
for
your
ground
means
it
has
stayed
at
160
degrees.
G
On
that
note,
after
talking
about
food
safety
being
our
food
literacy
term,
for
today,
I
would
like
to
share
a
foot,
a
fun
activity
that
you
and
your
family
can
do
and
that's
preparing
a
safe
meal.
You
can
go
to
our
website
the
fresh
chefs,
which
will
be
part
of
our
4h
digital
cooking
book,
and
you
can
utilize
those
safe
recipes
to
enjoy
a
fun
activity
for
a
fun
safe
meal
prep.
