From YouTube: Public Health with Pam Kirkland - 12-06-2022
Description
Pam Kirkland gives us all the latest updates and information we need for the upcoming holiday season.
A
Hello
and
welcome
to
this
is
public
health,
I'm
Pamela
Kirkland.
Today
we
are
going
to
talk
about
public
health
on
Wheels,
which
is
our
mobile
unit,
that
we
have
that
you
may
have
already
seen
around
Columbus
in
different
areas
of
town.
That
brings
our
services
out
into
the
communities,
but
before
we
do
that,
we're
going
to
get
a
quick
update
on
covid
and
flu
shots
and
joining
us
today
to
give
us
that
information
is
the
woman
who
knows
everything
about
our
district.
Our
district
program
manager,
Dr,
Asante,
hiltz,.
A
B
Thing,
it's
still
covet
time,
so
I
think
a
lot
of
people
in
their
mind
have
moved
away
from
covet
because
we
are
relaxing
some
regulations,
but
we
want
people
to
be
mindful
that
covet
is
still
Among
Us
and
it's
still
unpacking
people
and
people
are
still
dying
from
covet.
So
what
we
want
the
message
to
be
to
everybody
in
the
community
to
understand
that
the
bivalent
covet
booster
is
the
most
current
booster
that
we
want
people
to
have
it's
the
vaccine.
B
B
A
lot
of
people
have
received
boosters
already
and
there
has
been
some
confusion,
because
people
will
think
well.
I've
already
received
my
covet
booster,
so
I'm
fine,
but
the
bivalent
booster
is
the
most
current
and
that's
the
one
that
we're
encouraging
people
to
get
and
you
can
get
it
on
our
mobile
unit
or
in
our
health
department.
Okay,.
A
So,
like
the
other
coveted
vaccines,
there's
no
charge
for
that
correct,
that's
correct!
Okay!
So
how
long
does
somebody
have
to
wait
to
get
the
booster?
Is
there
some
kind
of
time
limit
with
that?
Also.
B
Yes,
there
is
a
two-month
time
limit,
so
if
somebody
has
already
received
a
previous
booster
that
wasn't
bivalent,
they
would
need
to
wait
two
months
or
if
someone
has
just
started
their
covid
vaccine
journey
and
they
have
just
received
their
second
dose
of
their
vaccine.
They
would
still
need
to
wait
two
months
before
they
got
their
next
bivalent
covet.
Booster,
okay,.
A
C
A
Okay,
so
next
that
kind
of
goes
into
flu
season
we're
getting
like
hit
with
both
of
them
and
I've
heard.
There's
a
lot
of
respiratory
issues
going
around
a
lot
of
children
have
come
down
with
some
respiratory
illnesses.
What
do
people
need
to
know
about
flu
shots
so.
B
People
need
to
understand
that,
as
you
just
mentioned,
respiratory
illness
is
Among
Us
right
now
we
are
in
flu
season.
So,
in
addition
to
our
concerns
about
covet,
we
also
need
to
be
mindful
about
flu,
and
we
want
people
to
get
their
flu
shot.
We
get
a
lot
of
questions
coming
into
our
health
department
as
to
whether
or
not
people
can
get
their
covet
booster
and
their
flu
shot
at
the
same
time,
and
they
can
do
that,
so
they
can
get
their
booster
and
their
flu
shot
together,
but
they
don't
have
to.
A
Some
equality,
and
yes,
true,
okay,
and
so
with
the
flu
shot
at
the
health
departments,
we
take
lots
of
different
kinds
of
insurances
and
most
insurance
does
pay
for
flu
shots
as
a
preventative
measure.
Is
the
flu
shot
available
on
the
mobile
unit
at
this
time,
the.
B
Flu
shot
is
available
on
the
mobile
unit
as
available
because
we
have
been
running
out
of
flu
this
season.
Okay,
so
you
can
always
get
in
the
health
department
and
almost
always
get
it
on
our
mobile
unit.
Okay.
So
if
you
want
to
call
our
health
department,
you
can
call
our
call
center
and
they'll.
Let
you
know
if
the
flu
shot
will
be
available
on
the
mobile
unit,
depending
on
what
location
it's
in,
but
almost
all
the
time
we
do
have
it
available.
Okay,.
A
371749
and
that
centralized
number
will
let
you
connect
with
any
of
our
16
Health
departments
in
our
district.
So
that's
good
number
to
know.
Okay,
so
now
we're
going
to
move
on
to
our
mobile
unit
Public
Health
on
Wheels.
We
have
two
actually
one
that
stays
in
Columbus
and
one
that
goes
out
into
our
counties
that
you
may
have
seen
at
some
events.
So
tell
us:
how
did
we
get
the
mobile
unit.
B
Mobile
unit
has
been
a
great
addition
to
our
health
departments,
so
the
city
of
Columbus
gave
us
a
grant
that
we
received
that
allowed
us
to
purchase
our
very
first
Public
Health
on
Wheels,
so
we
received
the
second
grant
that
allowed
us
to
purchase
a
second
mobile
unit
that
goes
into
the
other
counties
of
our
district,
the
other
15
counties.
But
now
we
have
the
opportunity
to
bring
Public
Health
Services
on
the
mobile
unit
right
here
in
Columbus,
as
well
as
our
other
15
counties.
A
B
Have
gone
to
some
of
the
schools
in
our
Muskogee
County
School
District.
We
have
gone
to
grocery
stores
such
as
Piggly
Wiggly.
We
have
gone
to
Parks
and
Recreation
recreation
centers,
like
Shirley
B,
Winston,
Recreation,
Center,
we've
gone
to
health
fairs.
We
have
gone
to
the
Metro
transfer
station.
We
have
gone
to
lots
of
locations.
Faith-Based
Partners
have
been
great
for
us.
B
A
And
our
website
is
westcentralhealthdistrict.com
and
you
can
find
out
where
our
locations
are
for
our
mobile
unit
right
there
on
the
home
page
and
we're
going
to
take
a
quick
break
now.
But
when
we
come
back
we're
going
to
talk
about
some
of
the
services
that
are
available
to
you
on
the
mobile
unit.
So
stay
with
us.
Wic.
D
D
A
There
once
was
a
girl
named
Sue,
who
wasn't
quite
sure
what
to
do
didn't,
take
the
time
for
a
shot
and
now
finds
that
sheets
come
down
with
the
flu,
don't
be
like
Sue
get
your
flu
shot
today
visit
columbushealth.com
to
find
a
health
department
nearest
you
now
when
we
first
got
our
mobile
unit
and
started
going
out,
we
were
just
basically
giving
coveted
vaccines,
but
now
we
have
evolved
and
we
have
a
lot
of
services
that
are
available
on
our
mobile
unit,
so
we
are
still
giving
coveted
vaccines.
A
So
Dr
hilts
tell
us
some
of
the
other
things
that
we're
doing
as
far
as
like
covid
on
the
mobile
unit,
yeah.
B
We're
trying
our
best
to
offer
as
many
services
as
possible
on
public
health
on
Wheels,
because
we
know
that
everybody
may
not
be
able
to
get
to
our
health
department
locations.
So,
in
addition
to
the
covet
boosters,
we
also
offer
the
flu
shots
on
the
mobile
unit.
We
offer
blood
pressure,
checks
and
education
about
blood
pressure.
We
offer
HIV
and
STI
testing
and
screening.
Okay.
A
Let
me
let
me
ask
you
a
question
about
the
the
blood
pressure
checks
and
education
now,
how
important
is
that
in
our
area?
Do
we
see
a
lot
of
people
who
have
high
blood
pressure,
not.
B
Only
do
we
see
a
lot
of
people
with
high
blood
pressure.
We
also
see
a
lot
of
people
who
have
uncontrolled
high
blood
pressure,
meaning
they
may
not
know
that
they
have
high
blood
pressure
or
they
do
not
have
a
medical
home
at
the
time
to
help
them
get
the
the
help
that
they
need
to
control
their
blood
pressure.
A
B
Those
available
absolutely
so.
We
know
that
people
can
get
a
covet
test
at
our
health
department
in
a
lot
of
other
locations
in
town,
but
the
convenience
of
a
home
test
is
that
you
can
come
to
our
mobile
unit
and
we'll
give
you
two
home
test
kits
that
you
can
take
home
and
have
available
for
you
to
do
your
own
test.
Okay,.
A
And
so
moving
on
to
the
HIV
and
STI
testing,
how
is
that
done?
I
know
a
lot
of
things
that
are
when
we
set
up
the
mobile
unit,
there's
tables
outside
and
a
lot
of
things
are
done
outside
that's
kind
of
a
more
private
thing
that
people
may
want
to
take
advantage
of.
How
does
that
work?
Well,.
B
The
great
thing
about
the
mobile
unit
is
that
it's
really
nice
and
it
has
private
rooms
inside.
So,
if
someone
is
interested
in
the
HIV
or
STD
screening,
we
bring
them
into
a
private
room
in
the
mobile
unit.
We
also
have
a
bathroom
in
there
and
that
allows
us
to
collect
urine
as
well
as
do
a
blood
screen
for
HIV
for
STDs,
including
chlamydia,
gonorrhea
and
syphilis.
Okay,.
A
So
not
just
syphilis,
but
all
all
STIs
correct,
that's
great,
okay!
Next
condoms
that
goes
right,
along
with
STI
prevention,.
B
So
as
a
part
of
our
HIV
and
STD
prevention
program,
we
offer
condoms
as
well
as
the
prep
clinic
and
prep
is
a
pill
that
prevents
HIV
and
we
encourage
people
to
learn
more
about
that
program
if
they're
at
risk,
and
so
we
provide
that
level
of
Education
as
well
as
some
telemedicine
services
on
the
mobile
unit.
Okay,.
B
B
A
B
Who
comes
up
to
the
mobile
unit
who
needs
that
protection,
it's
available
to
them?
Okay,
on
our
website
that
Pam
mentioned
earlier
westcentralhealthdistrict.com,
we
also
have
an
eye
icon
so
that
you
can
have
some
of
those
supplies
that
are
delivered
directly
to
your
home
if
you
can't
get
to
our
mobile
unit.
But
if
you
can
come
to
our
mobile
unit,
we
can
give
them
to
you
on
the
spot.
Okay,.
A
Great
and
one
more
thing
that
we've
recently
added
to
the
mobile
unit
is
the
lead
screening
and
you
know
so.
Many
people
are
not
even
aware.
I
talked
to
our
healthy
homes,
coordinator
April
Kennedy,
and
she
was
telling
me
that
there
are
so
many
ways
that
people
can
be
exposed
to
lead
in
our
homes
and
in
our
environment.
So
why
is
this
led
screening
so
important
to
have
at
the
mobile
unit
less.
B
Greedy
is
important
because
we
want
to
catch
it
early
if
a
child
has
been
exposed,
whether
that
be
from
their
parents,
occupation
or
from
them
being
exposed
to
lead-based
paint
in
the
home
eating
paint
themselves.
We
want
to
get
them
tested
early
and
a
lot
of
children
may
get
tested
by
their
physician.
But
if
they're
not
getting
tested,
we
want
to
provide
an
additional
opportunity
on
the
mobile
unit
where
they
can
get
a
lead
test.
So.
B
A
I
I,
when
I
talked
to
her
I,
was
really
amazed.
She
was
going
on
about
all
the
different
ways
that
people
can
get
exposed
to
lead
and,
and
one
thing
that
I
was
on
my
mind,
was
so
many
people
flip
houses.
Now
you
know
and
so
they're
flipping
older
houses
where
they
may
get
exposed
to
lead
pain
and
they
come
into
the
house
on
their
shoes,
and
things
like
that.
So
that
may
be
a
future
show
for
us
to
do,
because
it's
very
interesting
and
very
important.
F
Did
you
know
there
has
been
an
increase
in
the
number
of
sexually
transmitted
diseases
in
our
district?
That's
why
the
West
Central
Health,
District,
Prevention
Services,
is
offering
free,
HIV
and
syphilis
testing
for
everyone.
You
can
get
your
free
test
at
the
Columbus
Prevention
Services
Center
at
706-321-6412,
or
the
Americas
Prevention
Services
Center
at
229-931-2403
call
or
visit
our
Prevention
Services
centers
for
more
information
on
how
you
can
get
your
free,
HIV
and
syphilis
test
today.
Stop
wondering
get
tested.
F
D
D
A
Welcome
back
we're
continuing
our
conversation
with
Dr
Asante
hiltz,
who
is
our
district
program
manager
about
the
services
that
we
offer
on
our
mobile
unit,
Public
Health
on
wheels,
so
also
that
one
thing
that's
very
important
that
we
have
not
not
so
much
a
service
right
there
at
the
mobile
unit.
But
we
have
so
much
information
about
our
children's
programs
with
Georgia.
Strong
families.
B
That's
a
wonderful
addition
to
our
Public
Health
on
Wheels
and
oftentimes.
We
can
have
some
representatives
from
our
Georgia
strong,
Family
and
Children's
Medical
Services
represented
on
the
mobile
unit.
Sometimes
they
will
come
out
and
join
us,
but
if
they're
not,
we
have
these
very
special
people
on
the
mobile
unit
called
community
health
workers
and
the
community
health
workers
live
in
the
community.
They
understand
how
to
connect
people
to
the
appropriate
services
that
they
need,
based
on
things
that
they
discuss
with
them.
B
So
if
it's
identified
that
a
family
qualifies
for
a
Georgia,
strong
families
or
our
children,
Medical
Services
programs,
meaning
from
pregnancy
up
until
young
adulthood,
the
program
has
specific
opportunities
for
each
family,
whether
that
be
home,
visiting
services,
our
fatherhood
initiatives
to
help
dads
and
their
families
or
early
intervention
for
children.
We
have
all
those
Services
represented
on
the
mobile
unit
and
we
can
make
an
active
referral
for
that
family
right.
A
And
you
know
one
of
my
there's
so
many
programs
with
Georgia
strong
families
and
one
of
my
favorite
ones,
is
the
Fatherhood
Initiative
that
you
mentioned
just
because
you
know
I
feel
like
sometimes
dads
get
left
out.
You
know
all
the
attention
goes
to
mom
when
she's
pregnant
and
you
know
Dad
doesn't
know
what
to
do
either.
E
A
F
B
A
We
do
have
a
slide
that
shows
all
the
programs
listed
with
Georgia
Strong's
families.
Well,
actually,
that's
not
all
the
the
programs,
but
we
have
the
babies,
can't
wait,
which
is
an
Early
Intervention,
Program
Graham.
Actually,
my
son
had
took
part
in
that
program.
He
didn't
want
to
talk
for
a
long
time
when
he
was
little,
and
so
we
got
speech
therapy
and
and
helped
him.
A
You
know
start
talking
and
then,
of
course,
the
Fatherhood
Initiative
and
Lena
start,
which
is
a
a
program
that
helps
parents
learn
how
to
interact
with
their
children
and
it's
another
fun
program,
because
the
babies
wear
a
little
monitor
that
monitors
the
number
of
interactions
and
words
that
they
say
with
their
parents
and
if
you
put
it
and
put
them
in
front
of
the
TV,
it
will
recognize
an
electronic
device
and
it
won't
count
those
words.
So
you
can't
you
can't
play
around
with
that
one.
A
B
So
our
opioid
prevention
program
is
one
of
the
newest
additions
to
our
Public
Health
Services
and
on
the
mobile
unit.
You
can
receive
information
about
opioid
prevention,
active
referrals
as
well
as
Narcan,
which
is
an
opportunity
for
someone
to
have
a
substance
on
hand
that
helps
prevent
overdose,
and
so
our
opioid
prevention
coordinator
is
often
on
the
mobile
unit,
educating
about
Narcan
how
it
can
be
used,
as
well
as
providing
some
training
opportunities
for
Narcan
for
our
partner
organizations.
So.
A
A
That's
a
great
thing
to
have:
if
you
have
a
family
member,
that's
at
risk
or
a
friend
or
or
anyone
that
you
may
know
that
may
be
at
risk,
you're
able
to
get
it
and
have
it
just
in
case
it
happens.
So
that's
a
great
thing.
Another
program
that
we
have
is
the
yellow
Dot
and
we
want
to
talk
a
little
bit
about
the
yellow
dot.
I
should
have
brought
the
yellow
dot
with
me,
but
I
forgot
it,
but
anyway.
B
Yellow
dot
is
a
great
opportunity
for
people
to
have
all
of
their
medical
information
contained
in
one
location,
so
that
in
case
an
ambulance
or
a
first
responder
has
to
come
to
your
home.
They
will
have
all
of
that
location.
They
will
have
a
little
indicator
that
we
provide
in
the
packet
that
shows
that
you're
participating
in
yellow
dot.
All
of
your
medical
information,
all
of
your
emergency
contacts
will
be
stored
in
this
yellow
dot
information
packet,
so
First
Responders
would
have
that
immediately.
Right.
A
And
you
can
also
have
that
in
your
car,
if
you
have
a
in
your
glove
box,
say
and
the
little
yellow,
DOT
sticker
you
put
on
the
back
of
your
windshield,
your
back
windshield,
and
that
lets
the
ambulance
and
First
Responders
know
that
you
have
that
information
in
the
car
say
you're
in
a
car
accident
and
you're
unconscious,
and
not
able
to
tell
them
you're
on
certain
medications
or
have
some
pre-existing
conditions.
A
A
A
And
the
health
department
so
yeah.
If
you
want
to
pick
those
up,
you
can
stop
by
anytime
and
just
get
one
or
two
for
your
parents
or
one
for
yourself.
So
it's
a
great
thing
to
have
on
hand
also.
The
Medical
Nutrition
Therapy
and
our
diabetes
prevention
program
tell
us
more
about
that,
because
that's
kind
of
one
of
your
little
Specialties.
B
We're
very
excited
about
this
and
I'm,
hoping
that
you
allow
us
one
day
to
do
a
show
just
on
nutrition
and
lifestyle
Services
change
program.
It's
the
new
addition
to
our
health
department
and
diabetes
prevention
program
has
been
around
for
a
while.
We've
been
doing
that
for
a
few
years,
which
allows
people
who
are
not
yet
diagnosed
with
diabetes
but
may
be
pre-diabetic
or
at
high
risk
for
diabetes
to
learn
how
to
change
their
lifestyle
so
that
they
do
not
progress
to
diabetes.
So
that's
about
a
year-long
program.
B
It
meets
weekly
and
then
there
are
some
monthly
meetings
after
the
weekly
meetings
end
and
that
is
being
conducted
virtually
through
our
dietitians
and
our
lifestyle
coaches.
But
in
addition
to
the
diabetes
prevention
program,
we've
now
added
a
nutrition
and
lifestyle
change
program
that
allows
people
to
meet
one-on-one
with
the
dietitian.
If
they've
already
experienced
some
Diet
dietary
need
or
they're
experiencing
obesity
or
overweight,
or
they
need
some
lifestyle
change,
we
have
a
dietitian
that
can
meet
with
them
one-on-one
and
help
shape
a
plan
for
their
lives.
B
E
B
Part
of
that
you
do
have
to
be
diagnosed
with
a
medical
condition.
However,
if
you
feel
like
you're
at
high
risk
say
for
diabetes,
for
example,
or
you
already
have
high
blood
pressure,
you
can
still
meet
with
the
dietitian
who
can
enroll
you
into
one
of
our
other
programs
through
the
nutrition
and
lifestyle
change
services
program.
Okay,.
A
F
If
you're
living
with
HIV
and
not
in
care,
there's
help
the
linkage
to
CARE
program
of
the
West
Central
Health
District
connects
newly
and
previously
diagnosed
hiv-positive
individuals
to
HIV
medical
care.
We
can
help
you
develop
a
support
plan
to
overcome
the
obstacles
that
keep
you
from
treatment
and
will
get
you
on
the
road
to
living
a
healthier
and
Fuller
life
wherever
you
are
we're
here
to
help
so
call
today
at
706-321-6401.
F
Did
you
know
there
has
been
an
increase
in
the
number
of
sexually
transmitted
diseases
in
our
district?
That's
why
the
West
Central
Health,
District,
Prevention
Services,
is
offering
free,
HIV
and
syphilis
testing
for
everyone.
You
can
get
your
free
test
at
the
Columbus
Prevention
Services
Center
at
706-321-6412,
or
the
Americas
Prevention
Services
Center
at
229-931-2403
call
or
visit
our
Prevention
Services
centers
for
more
information
on
how
you
can
get
your
free,
HIV
and
syphilis
test
today.
Stop
wondering
get
tested.
A
B
This
program
is
the
Cova
Health
Equity
Navigator
program,
because
what
it
allows
us
to
do
is
to
have
a
navigator
similar
to
our
community
health
workers
who
go
out
into
the
community
and
help
people
who've
been
impacted
by
covet.
Now
you
and
I
both
know
that
there's
very
few
people
that
you
meet,
who
have
not
been
impacted
by
covet
right
so
covet
Health
Equity,
came
to
us
because
of
our
covet
funding,
but
really
Health
Equity
is
something
that
is
around
us
and
should
be
prioritized
regardless.
B
A
B
Been
impacted
by
covet
and
you've
had
to
stay
out
of
work
for
a
while,
so
the
Navigator
will
help
find
resources
for
you
for
either
job
placement
or
re-employment
or
financial
assistance
during
the
time
that
you're
impacted
or
you
may
not
have
been
able
to
pay
some
of
your
utility
bills.
They'll
help
connect
you
or
you're
suffering
from
a
mental
health
condition
based
on
what
you
went
through
during
the
covet
pandemic.
B
B
A
Now
is
that
something
that
is
like
age-based
as
well?
Are
there
resources
available
for
people
who
may
have
some
issues
with
their
children?
I
mean
I
know
children
were
especially
impacted
not
going
to
school
and
things
like
that.
What
about
you
know
helping
the
children
with
schoolwork
work
and
things
like
that
so.
B
B
So
it'll
stay
on
our
mobile
unit
and,
of
course,
as
we
said,
although
people
may
be
moving
away
from
covet,
we
recognize
that
Health
Equity
impacts
us
well
well
beyond
covid
right,
because
there's
a
lot
of
things
that
impact
the
outcome
of
health.
Things
like
where
we
live,
work
play
Pray
violence,
crime,
all
those
things,
impact
our
health
outcomes
and
that's
the
purpose
of
the
Health
Equity
program
is
to
not
just
look
at
where
you
are
your
health
outcome
today,
but
all
the
things
that
had
an
influence
on
your
health
outcome.
Okay,.
A
That
sounds
like
a
really
interesting
program
and
that's
on
both
of
our
mobile
units.
Correct,
that's,
correct
all
right!
So
where
are
our
mobile
units
going
to
be?
These
are
some
of
the
ways
that
we
can.
You
can
find
our
mobile
unit
locations,
Public
Health
on
Wheels,
of
course,
and
those
are
some
of
the
people
that
work
with
the
covet
Health
Equity
program
there.
A
We
also
have
our
website
that
is
www.westcentralhealthdistrict.com.
You
can
go
there
and
on
our
home
page
we
have
an
icon
for
our
Public
Health
on
Wheels,
and
also
we
have
a
mobile
app,
which
is
something
that
you
like
to
talk
about.
Tell
us
about
the
mobile
app.
B
Yay
I'm
excited
because
the
mobile
app
gives
you
real-time
information
about,
where
we'll
be,
and
not
only
about
public
health
on
Wheels,
but
really
all
of
our
Public
Health
Services
are
represented
on
our
mobile
app.
But
if
you
go
into
the
Google
Play
store
or
the
App
Store,
you
can
download
our
mobile
app
and
it's
West
Central
Health
District.
And
when
you
go
onto
the
mobile
app.
If
you
click
on
our
Public
Health
on
Wheels
icon,
it
will
show
you
all
of
the
upcoming
locations.
