From YouTube: Cupertino Simms House (September 1991)
Description
From 1991: The Simms House represents a joint effort between Innovative Housing and the City of Cupertino. This housing renovation project provides affordable housing and open space access for low-income residents of Santa Clara County. The five single-family residents who live at Simms House also serve as caretakers of the adjacent McClellan Ranch Park.
This video is one in a series of programs presented as part of the City of Cupertino's digital video archive project.
A
I'm
speaking
on
behalf
of
my
the
museum
is
a
very
great
opportunity
for
us,
especially
me.
I
must
talk
about
myself
because
I
still
live
in
San
Jose
I
have
to
commute
about
two
hours
to
come
here
to
come
to
school
dance
at
work
at
spark
foundation,
but
this
has
been
such
a
great
opportunity
because
I
have
to
leave
here.
I
just
have
to
walk
about
a
mile
to
go
to
school
and
about
tell
me
to
go
to
my
job.
It's
really
great
environment,
how's
everything!
So
wonderful,
I,
don't
know
how
to
thank.
B
For
the
first
time,
the
city
has
been
able
to
offer
both
affordable
housing
and
open
space
for
the
enjoyment
of
all
Cupertino
residents.
With
help
from
the
Building
Industry
Association
many
local
organizations
and
individuals.
The
Simms
house
took
less
than
two
months
to
renovate
adjacent
to
McClellan
Ranch
Park.
This
home
is
currently
shared
by
five
single-parent
families
who
each
pay
between
two
hundred
to
four
hundred
fifteen
dollars
a
month
in
rent.
These
families
also
serve
as
Park
caretakers
aside.
C
From
my
own,
family
I
have
a
new
one,
they're
they're,
so
they're
so
kind
and
generous
and
they're
there
when
I
need
them
and
their
that
can
depend
on
them
and
the
animals.
You
know
we
had
raccoons
come
onto
our
porch
the
other
night
and
you
know-
and
we
have
deer
here
and
it's
been
so
great
and
it's
like
I
like
it
a
lot.
